I've waited several weeks before writing this review because I didn't want to write it in the heat of the moment. Now that the pulp has settled, I feel compelled to calmly weigh in. Nobody greeted me, and nobody said goodbye (after being in the chair for more than 5 hours). The stylist I saw did absolutely horrible work, and was deeply unpleasant. I won't name them because I honestly feel a little bad for them. They seemed depressed and disinterested, as though they were going through a rough time, although for all I know, this is their baseline personality. I got a panicky voicemail a couple of days before my appt, more than two minutes long, expressing the desire to "be on the same page" about what I wanted. I appreciated the up-front communication, and think it's important to be aligned, but this felt weird, like they were doing damage control or something. I hadn't booked anything unusual. I sent photos. We're talking about a minor trim, some root cover, and a little balayage. Not a dramatic change. Not an exotic request. The stylist had bizarre energy. No lightness. Unfriendly. Seemed super-defensive on contact, before we even got started, lots of talk about managing expectations, telling me what they do and don't do ("no fashion hair" -- what even is that?). They seemed tense and bummed to be there, a little bit adversarial even. I've been told repeatedly that my hair is easy to work with. I know for a fact that I went in with a good attitude. Cut to the chase (no pun intended): the final product bore zero resemblance to what we discussed. The dryer was angled so that the front of my hair was left out of the heat, and the color shows it. It basically looked like I'd put Sun-In in my hair. Orange. All over. Almost no contrast or dimension. And it seemed as though they knew they'd screwed up. At the end, after more than 5 hours, after my hair had been blowdried etc, they said, "if you want, i could tone it again." The cut was bad too. No shape or movement, really rudimentary. I was asking for so little! Two sets of responses in the real world to my hair. The people I see everyday noticed no change at all. After a huge investment of time and around $500. The people I know who work in hair said "who hurt you?" They were surprised when I told them I'd been to Gamine, because I guess it used to have a decent reputation. I've read here on Yelp that the salon offers color correction within a certain time-frame if the customer is unhappy. That's a great policy, but unfortunately, nobody ever mentioned it to me. I might have taken them up on it. When we were finally finished, the stylist disappeared into the back. I paid my bill and never saw them again, stunned at the whole experience. I also bought some product, recommended by the stylist. More money for the salon. Incidentally, the product was totally wrong for my hair. Lesson learned. P.S. Forgot to mention that the stylist was very keen to color my hair before cutting it, which seemed odd. When I said it seemed like we should do the cut first, so as not to cut off new color, they acted as though I suggested we shave my head. They eventually agreed that it was preferable to start with the cut. Yet another moment of pique on what should've been a pleasant day. read more

Posting again in response to the owner Jen suggesting my hair was a "good result" and I should have been happy with the "strict perimeters"... You didn't address the way you treated me in front of other employees who you're so "passionate" to teach and clients who saw you treat me how you did. The first photo was my hair a week prior to coming into the salon, healthy. The second is my hair after completely fried and orange. Yes I paid for color and tipped regardless, but to claim you helped in any way is a lie - your senior stylist was the only one helpful. It was Sterling's first time ever doing hair color she told me, and as an owner who claims you want clients to be happy you could have and could still could offer to fix this. However, instead you essentially told me to leave and it "would wash out" and rolled your eyes like I was the problem. To not fix something that was wrong on a client goes against everything you just claimed-Mina thanked me for my patience and tried to problem solve, you tried to make me the issue and avoid accountability. I hope people who read this understand you do not care about following up to fix your wrongs and your treatment seemed to be biased based on me. Maybe take accountability that your stylist in training didn't do a good job and you didn't want to deal with fixing it so decided I was the problem and told me to wash my hair myself and leave. Jeremiah is phenomenal. I needed to revive my dull blond hair after a very lackluster highlight from my previous stylist (not at Gamine). I wanted BRIGHT blond but blended highlights. Champagne, if you will. I have a lot of very fine hair. My natural color is "dirty" blonde, but I just recently went back to blonde this year after being brunette & auburn. I brought one "inspiration" photo and Jeremiah absolutely crushed it! Jeremiah is very thorough and attentive with your hair. Also just a genuinely nice person. My family and I were on a trip in LA from Virginia , I had been growing my hair out and while in LA I thought why not cut and color? I did my research and found this hidden gem! (I'm a very picky person) I read the reviews, checked out the service they offered as well as the team members and decided to schedule an appointment. I was able to schedule and within 24hrs I was in, they messaged me my reminders (multiple times) and 1/2 hr before my appointment again. Once I walked in I was immediately greeted and treated as if I was the only person that matter (that is awesome)! They were so engaging and you don't see this very often. I met with the stylists Sterling he was FANTASTIC!!!! We talked through my idea, he gave me his expert opinion and worked his magic l! I then met with Anthony he was AMAZING!!!! Told him what color I wanted and he delivered, they both were super nice to chat with, extremely professional and if I ever return to LA I will definitely be returning. I can't remember the name of the lady who washed my hair, but is seems like she had melatonin in her hands, she was GREAT!!! I have to say I have been going to different stylist and have yet to find someone until reading reviews about Gamine and Jeremiah. My first visit was great Jeremiah listed to what I wanted took his time and did not just start cutting. He did a little at time since we were both new to each other he wanted to get a feel for what I was looking for. He did an amazing job. I also need to do a color correction from black to blondish due to my gray/white roots. We scheduled and I came back. While of course we did not get to the exact color the first time since it will take time. The color that I walked out with was perfect. I am so happy to have found Jeremiah. I needed a last minute makeup + hair appointment for an event I was attending that night and Jessica was so kind to fit me in the morning of! I had both done by Anthony and I was so so happy with the results! He was so sweet and really took my ideas and concerns to heart! I have hooded eyes and in the past when having my makeup done, I had been pretty disappointed with the results due to the artist not really being familiar with how thick eyeliner + lashes make hooded eyes look even heavier. So I'm always a little nervous about that when someone else does my makeup; but Anthony knew exactly what he was doing and made sure I was happy with the results! It was such a relief seeing how he was able to truly work with the features of my face and play them up! Kat is amazing. She is a true artist when it comes to your hair. I knew I was in good hands when I first came into the salon because she was so attentive to my desired aesthetic, asked lots of questions to gain an understanding, and most importantly, never gave me a condescending attitude for being clueless. Sometimes you can get intimidated walking into a salon, but Kat makes you feel right at home. I love going to Kat for haircuts. She assesses every client individually according to face structure, features, hair type, etc. and creates a look based off of those components. The stylist I went to-Jeremiah did not dye my hair the way I wanted. He's a really nice guy but he just did not listen to me. I wanted ash brown color and he used golden ash dye which made my hair come out orange and red. He temporarily fixed it when I asked for dark toner the next day but obviously the color returned in a few months and I had to see someone else to get it corrected. I would advise people to be wary working with him. I trusted his expertise based on these reviews but I regret doing so. read more

I've been to Gamine a few times, but yesterday was my first time working with Angi. She was such a life saver, and gave me the cutest cut that I absolutely love! My hair was pretty damaged from lots of boxed dye and I had initially thought about attempting to go lighter. She was so thoughtful and helpful in walking me through what that would realistically look like, and in the end we agreed that it would be best to cut off length so I can get back to my natural color and be able to dye my hair again to a shade that I want in the future. She gave me the cutest French bob with bangs and I love it so much! It was so great to have so much trust in her, and I knew she'd give me a cut that made me feel fresh and confident. I came in with hair that was dyed red/copper mistakenly by another salon. Mina completely transformed my hair into exactly what I had originally wanted (beautiful chocolate brown color with golden undertones). She took the time to listen to what had happened, diagnosed the problem and did a truly masterful job at getting all of the red out and adding a gorgeous new color. A regular cut took 3 hours!! I don't usually trust the businesses that only have 5 stars on yelp because I know they can delete poor reviews. Still, thought I'd give this one a try. Particularly, made an appointment with Sterling for my birthday cut cause he had all the great reviews. My cut took 3 HOURS even though I was told it only takes 1 hour. My hair is healthy and uncolored and we did the regular layers cut. He was super slow and even while discussing what to do with my hair, he seemed unsure and doubtful, which made me uncomfortable. He said he just wants to make sure he does something that I like... Even though we washed my hair, he sprayed it like 30 times every a few minutes. I was soaked, cold and wet the whole time cause the cape was not water resistant either. To blow dry my hair, he turned my chair away from the mirror and I couldn't see anything the whole time which I absolutely disliked. I wanna see how the haircut has turned out... He was polite and nice as well as the rest of the staff but I went there for a good service... The cut itself was ok. At the end, he gave me a 20% discount for my birthday which I appreciate but he killed my afternoon and I had to cancel my plans for the day because of his slow service. I had high hopes for this salon... too bad their poor service made me not want to go back ever again. read more
