I found Hair by Julianne Cho and was booked with Sumi, and I'm so glad I trusted her! Sumi was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive throughout the entire appointment. She actually recommended a softer, wavier perm, but I kept insisting I wanted it curlier (lol). She listened to exactly what I wanted while still giving me honest professional advice, which I really appreciated. She also recommended getting a haircut beforehand, and I'm SO glad I listened. I have really thick hair with a lot of density, and she spent about 40 minutes cutting it. She didn't rush at all and was so meticulous. She removed just enough weight while keeping my length, added beautiful long layers, and gave my hair so much more movement and dimension. The perm came out exactly how I was hoping! My hair feels so much lighter, the curls are beautiful, and I'm honestly obsessed with the result. I drove about an hour from the Valley, and it was 100% worth it. Parking was easy, the salon was clean and adorable, and they even had snacks and drinks for clients. Overall such a great experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to make the drive again. Jennifer agreed to accommodate me and even stayed after hours to work on me. She assessed my hair and decided what to do (we ended up removing 50% of the extensions -- the previous salon had added too much hair so she could charge me for more hair, which was one of the reasons I ended up looking like I was wearing a wig). Jennifer cut the width of the extensions and replaced them at the most natural position for my head shape, and blended everything together seamlessly. Jennifer, you are amazing!!! Thank you so much. I will definitely be back!

I ended up booking for Wednesday afternoon, parked nearby the coffee shop. Wasn't a busy day. Arlene is such a hair expert! I told her I prefer short hair for the volume and she showed me some ideas. We decided that a short bob would be best to fix my mess! She did a fantastic job fixing up the uneven pieces, making sure to fix the bangs so it would grow out nicely. She also showed me how to style it at home, since short hair is high maintenance. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and I'll definitely be back when it's time to trim. Through the non-profit "Children with Hair Loss" Du Japon Hair Club was vetted for donations and is the only approved salon in the Los Angeles area. I met Yuki, who owns and operates this salon and also one of the best stylists I've had in my years of barbers. She is so nice and explained the process of the donation and also provided guidance on selecting the best hair cut for me. After looking at a few photos, I decided to go with a moderate cut to ease back into the general population. I was so happy with the results and would recommend Yuki to any of my friends. She will only take appointments and is the busiest during the weekend. I would recommend calling well in advance for your appointment, as she works generally towards the end of the week through the weekend.

Yuki should have warned me that my hair was too fine for this process instead of taking my money to ruin my hair. If she is so experienced and so great she should have known better and know that the process she was doing would ruin my hair. This is my warning to others that are going here to have straightening done. Don't rely on her to tell you it's not right for your hair. To top it off when I called to tell her she did not apologize, she did not act as though she felt bad her response was not caring at all. Not to mention she didn't offer any advice or a refund. Now it will take me years to get my hair healthy and I'm so upset.

I said I had another appt after but that would be fine. I arrived and sat down and waited. They said I was checked in. I waited one hour before going to the front desk to say that now, I would not have time to do the appt because, as I told them, I would have to leave for another appt. I had allotted 2 hours and now there was only 1 hour left and I had not even been seen or sent for hair washing. All the while I waited, I could see Sal doing at least 2 other people's hair. When I asked the front desk if I could reschedule, they said they would talk to him. Several minutes passed. Sal was aware that I was there, but chose not to speak to me himself. He chose not to even take two minutes to face me and apologize. He was going to Mexico the next night, and could only offer the next day during hours I had to work. The salon manager apologized for Sal and offered another hair dresser. I have curly hair and want someone experienced in curly hair- especially when the haircut is right before my wedding and will cost hundreds of dollars. I think the worst part was that Sal was right there but simply didn't have the courtesy to apologize. I will never return to this salon. As for my wedding in two weeks, I have asked my makeup artist to help me find someone.

I specifically said I was willing to pay the extra because I did not want yellow or orange roots. Not only did my roots remain yellow after processing and toner, but since the appointment I now have noticeable breakage on the bottom of my hair that was not present beforehand. My hair appear fragile and uneven, and my hair feels significantly thinner since this appointment. I can't even run my fingers through it .......it feels extremely dry, rough, and damaged. During styling, I also received a burn on my ear from her curling iron. When I raised concerns about the color result. It was dismissed rather than addressed. She told me it was impossible to get my roots bright blonde with regrowth this long....... after already charging me extra for the double process and assuring me it could be done. This service was performed by Jaime, the owner. I am now left with breakage in the back, damaged hair, and yellow roots.

My feet have been through it the last couple of years (sports) and I wanted to get serious about caring for them properly, not just getting them painted. Of course, I turned to Yelp for the scoop and zeroed in on Ms. Glen's Therapeutic Manicures & Pedicures. I finally got a chance to go see Ms. Glen and it was everything I wanted and more. It was relaxing (I fell asleep)! It was restorative! My feet felt and looked healthy and cared for. I didn't get polished which is great because I have been wanting to go natural for a while to let my nails breathe and focus on what's really happening with my toe nail health. So may things I loved (in no particular order): - Very communicative from the appointment (via phone) to the confirmation and directions (via text) - Ms. Glen greeted me at the door - The studio smells divine (really sets the tranquil mood) - The studio was intimate (just me - yay) - The space was very clean (I am a stickler for clean) - There was a complimentary water waiting on me - Ms. Glen has developed her own techniques and products which speaks to her dedication and specialization (I love people who are passionate about what they do!) - Every step of the treatment was appreciated! (very detailed, very attentive, think - pampering your feet from the in-depth massage to the parrafin to the soaks to the grooming and much much more) - I got socks! This was such a special and much needed last step that I never knew I needed. It made my feet more comfortable and protected after such a beautiful treatment. She even asked me my size. How's that for customer service! - Now this one may seem trivial but I never had to hold my feet up during the treatment unless I was transitioning from the bowl to a towel. I do not like having to do that while someone attends to the bottom of my feel or heels. Ms. Glen has it worked out where I can truly relax the whole time. I also left with one of Ms. Glen's therapeutic hand and foot oils in Lemon. She makes the oils herself! It smells so good and leaves a refreshing but not overpowering scent. It feels good oiling my feet every night. Like another reviewer said, this is not your run of the mill pedicure shop. This is a therapeutic service that is worth every penny. My goal is to make this a regular treatment. If my feet are healthy, I am healthier! Thanks Ms. Glen for such a wonderful experience! I'll be back. If your feet are in need of TLC, renewal and restoration, Ms. Glen has a carefully curated service that will leave your feet feeling brand new. I had recently purchased a soap that helps with skin discoloration. It hasn't been making any improvement in the uneven skin tone and dark marks on my feet. Turns out I just needed an appointment with Ms. Glen. The exfoliation she provided literally rubbed away 15 years from my feet. My dry scratchy heels were left supple and smooth and the calloused areas were left soft. Had I known what I was in store for I would have taken before and after pictures. She even provided socks for me to leave in, to seal in the moisture. My favorite part hands down was the massage. She kneaded into these tired soles, and I needed that! I paid a little more than the price listed (which she does quote as a base price) but she also spent almost 2x the amount of time listed. My Fiancé noticed the difference in appearance and feel immediately. I intentionally waited until 24 hours+ had passed to write this review, wanting to see if my feet would feel just as nice. THEY DO!! Ms. Glen definitely puts pride in her work and I love how she checked in throughout the process to ensure I was satisfied along the way. I recommend her service to anyone looking to give their feet a more youthful feel and look. And if your feet have severe issues that might keep you from visiting open public salons, her private suite will help you feel comfortable and secure. Right before I left, Ms. Glen threw in a bottle of her therapeutic hand & foot oil once she saw how dry my hands were. I had discussed my upcoming nuptials with her and she wanted to make sure my hands moisturized properly for my big day, even providing a demonstration on proper application. Ms. Glen is a gem!

Unexpected Charges and Lack of Transparency…read more I booked my appointment in person on Tuesday 7/15 because I wasn't sure what to select online for Gel-X removal. I trusted the front desk staff to guide me, and was quoted $80 for Gel-X, builder gel removal, and French tip. At my appointment on Friday 7/18, I was unexpectedly charged $110! I was told the card on file couldn't be used for the service--only for late fees or no-shows--which made no sense. If the salon can charge the card for penalties, why not for the actual service being provided? This was especially frustrating because the appointment was a gift for a huge accomplishment of mine, from my mother, so of course I didn't have the physical card with me. On top of that I was also charged extra for nail length without warning, and billed twice for polish: $20 for gel color and $15 for French tip, even though I only received 1 design; french tip. When I asked for clarification, staff just pointed to the online pricing--but I booked in person to avoid that confusion. The experience felt misleading. I intentionally came in person to avoid confusion and relied on the staff to guide me accurately. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. If you're considering booking here, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for more transparent and customer-friendly service.

Had concerns with my first gel-x experience. It was painful. The tech didn't listen to my requests…read more I did. I was unhappy with the service but still paid full price and tipped accordingly. I came back for a refill, and two days later was in some of the most pain I've ever been in due to a cuticle infection. I voiced concerns that my skin was being cut, but they were shrugged off. After coming into the salon to show them the infection, the front desk staff was polite and helpful advising they would reach out to the owner and share photos they took of the nail. Days passed and I followed up again via phone as I didn't hear back. The owner of the salon requested PHI pertaining to the infection, including what Rx I was on, in order to even consider a refund. Initially, a gift card for the amount spent on the service was offered in lieu of a refund. I mentioned I was not comfortable receiving another service, and received a call back letting me know the owner was willing to grant a refund. Overall, the back and forth took about a week and a half. I was new to the entire gelx process, and am posting this review to let anyone else looking to embark on that journey know they should ask questions and voice their concerns. There are seemingly many happy patrons, but this was my individual experience.

When I read all of these yelp reviews I was overwhelmed by the positive responses. However, I secretly think that the workers at Gamine write some of the reviews to give it a higher rating because my experience at Gamine was unsatisfactory. I went to Gamine on the summer stimulus and when I walked in there were literally no customers. I had a tough time booking an appointment because they say they were so "busy" but they weren't!! 1). NOT CLEAN: There are little pieces of hairs from previous haircuts stuck in the chairs. They put a clear plastic cover over their chairs but have tons of hair underneath the clear plastic cover. 2). POORLY CUT: I was ok with my haircut until I found a piece of my hair that was much shorter than the other. Basically, she accidentally cut one portion of my hair much shorter but mid scalp so it kind of sticks out now!! I'm trying to cover it with the longer pieces but still...this shows that they aren't very skilled at Gamine. 3). RECEPTIONIST: the receptionist was in one of the robes that we wear when we get a haircut and she was doing something herself to her hair. A receptionist should be at the front desk not doing things to your own hair. 4). LITTLE TEENS MAKE THE HAIR DYE: One of the ladies that dyed another ladies' hair let her little kid make the dye. I am NOT JOKING!! I guess the girl getting her hair dyed was a family friend...but what the heck! Who would ever let a teenage girl make the dye at this type of establishment??? BEST HAIRCUT EVER! Woke up one morning and decided today was the day: I am ready to let go of the burden of the past and move onto new grounds. After extensive research for a reputable salon which gives asymmetrical haircuts, I found Amelia from Gamine. I called for an appointment but Amelia was not there. Instead, Julie (the owner!) answered and offered to cut my hair. Julie was a blessing in disguise. Unbelievable talent, patience, and creativity. She made sure to work with me every step of the way, telling me what she plans to do next and discussing the options that best fits my personality, flatters my image, and brightens my face. Our hair experience was an artistic collaboration in creating architecture. If you are looking for a shear (get it?) genius, Julie at Gamine is your guardian angel. In fact, I have full confidence in all of her staff because it was Julie who nurtured their talents and encouraged their artistic growth. Many moons ago, I was lucky enough to have Julie Rosenberg as my hair stylist. Julie is incredibly gifted and understood immediately what my hair needed, and what I was willing and able to do to take care of it. I always loved my hair, and was frequently asked who cut it. Some years back I lost track of Julie, so I was thrilled to hook up with her again a few months ago. I went to her shop, Gamine, yesterday to get a cut by Tamara. Tamara and the other staff made me feel welcome and comfortable from the minute I walked through the door. She asked all the right questions before even lifting the scissors, and checked in with how I felt about everything every step of the way. She told me that she had learned volumes from Julie and it shows, even though Tamara is obviously very talented in her own right. The end result was a great cut that turned me from looking like a bedraggled aging hippie into someone with a stylish and suitable cut that I will be able to maintain with minimal effort. Julie will give you, hands down, the greatest haircut ever. I've never been a slave to one hairdresser, and, in fact, have even gone to Supercuts more then I should. (I know, the shame.....) However, the main deterrents for me have been the fact that no hairdresser seems to get my hair or what I want. (And I bring pictures!) And don't get me started on Salon attitude. (Thus, Supercuts.) That said, Gamine was recommended to me by a friend when I mentioned I was ready for a drastic change (long hair to pixie short.) Within 1 minute I knew I had finally found the greatest hairdresser - and coolest person - in Julie, Gamine's owner. She knew exactly what I wanted, took her time and gave me an amazing haircut. Gamine itself is fun, kicky, warm, laid back, sassy and a place where you are completely comfortable. I cannot recommend this place more. I just had a fabulous hair coloring experience with Sandy at Gamin Salon in Silverlake. First off, I have really fine hair and coloring can be really tricky. I've had many bad experiences in the past. I was thrilled this time when I tried a colorist/stylist that was recommended to me at Gamin, Sandy. She rocks! She has the knowledge and special touch to handle any hair. We did a highlighting process and my hair is healthy and the color looks fabulous. I just have to respond to Miss Anna B. regarding her experience with Vanessa. I have been going to Vanessa for years and have referred so many people to her and not once has anyone ever had a negative experience. What I love about Vanessa is that she really understands the color I'm going for - even as I explain it using foods, crayola colors and lots of arm waving. She is warm, serene, and clearly knows how to color hair. More importantly, she always makes sure I love my color and has been incredibly generous with her time if I'm unsure. Arlona has been my stylist for a couple of years and I followed her to Gamine Beauty. I get my hair highlighted and Arlona has always done an amazing job. She is very precise, always strives for "perfect" and she takes great pride in her work. I am that client that likes "change" and I am constantly going to Arlona saying "I want to try this" or "let's do something new". Krista at Gamine Beauty is amazing. Finding a new hairstylist can be such a stressful thing to do-- but my first cut/color with her was awesome. The whole experience was great. The salon had easy parking and was relaxing. Krista made me feel right at home and the couple hours I spent in her chair flew by. She did a beautiful balayage on my hair, painting in the perfect highlights. She found the perfect shade of purple that I was looking for and I walked out feeling amazing. You may not want to let yourself into the clutches of Julie and her motley team at Gamine because if you are like me it will be like getting married in a country with no divorce and not because you want to because you will be so happy! Hi, This salon is absolutely amazing due to the fact it takes care of their clients, cares about each individual. The place itself makes you feel very welcomed and everyone gets outstanding treatment . It's joyful, great experience as every time I walk out of there I am in love with my hair. I usually go to barber shops for my hair but one time i needed to cut my hair fast and quick. My barber is nowhere to be found and the shop is closed. Looked up in Yelp for a nearby haircutter and Gamine is what is found. The one who cut my hair was Amelia. She was cute, the cutest thing that I've ever seen. I'm the kind of guy who never knows what should be done with his hair. I just tell Julie, "Whatever you think. I trust you." And I really do. Nobody gives me as good a haircut as Julie. Absolutely nobody. I don't know what she does, but it's awesome. Other people say so, too. My tale of HAPPINESS: I'm very picky about who does my hair. It's not the greatest, rather thin with an even worse texture. So when my stylist decided to "go back to her roots" I panicked. A friend of mine has been getting her hair cut by Julie for a year and loves her and so I gave her a try. In a word - FABULOUS. Seriously. Another great experience at Gamine. I don't go often enough, but when I do it's always a pleasure. I would like to recommend SANDY for doing a great job on my hair all around! She did a lovely job on the color, probably the best results I've ever had. My hair is fine and difficult to deal with. I'm rarely happy with color results and this time it was fabulous! Love Tamara at Gamine! She's so sweet and understanding of your needs. She really listens to what you want and will do it to a T. I have really curly hair "jew fro" and does too. She understood what many hairdressers never did in the past. Not to cut too many layers into my hair or it would result in triangle head. I actually cheated on Tamara once and I explained the same thing to the other hairdresser and she basically gave me the worst haircut of my life. Many years ago Julie was the one I would go to when I really needed a style pick me up. She is incredibly talented and understands texture and line. I moved, she moved, and many hair cutters later - I recently sought her out and went back for a badly needed image lift. A haircut is a magical thing. It's an art, not a science. I have curly hair, so I decided to book with Lola because she is advertised as a "curly hair specialist." When I arrived at the studio, I was moved from one chair to another and then another before finally ending up in Lola's chair, where I waited another 30 minutes while she finished lunch. It honestly felt like appointment times did not matter here. When Lola finally arrived, I explained exactly what I wanted and even showed her a reference photo. It felt like she completely ignored it and decided to do whatever she wanted instead. When she turned me around for the big reveal, I almost burst into tears because she had given me a mullet. I never asked for a mullet, never wanted a mullet, and mullets do not even suit my face shape. She cut the top layers of my hair so short that without product, it looked like I had an afro on top with long curly layers in the back resembling a jellyfish. The worst part was that I still had to pay $110 for a haircut I absolutely hated. I felt like if I said anything, I would have been treated like the problem. Almost a year later, I still hate the way it has grown out, hate the way it looks without product, and honestly hate my curly hair in general now. I have worn my hair naturally curly since I first learned how to style it at 13 years old, and never in my life have I hated my hair the way I do now. I have not gone anywhere to fix it because this was genuinely the worst haircut experience I have ever had that now I'm just distrustful of all stylists. Sadly, my tried and true hair stylist left the country so last year I decided to try out Shampoolio. Before Lola, I had never had a haircut horror story. This experience completely ruined the way I view my hair, how it grows, and how it looks. I genuinely wish I had never walked into that salon or trusted the social media reviews claiming she "specializes" in curly hair. She also isn't the friendliest but who cares. I don't small talk anyway. Save yourselves, folks.
