Motorcycle repair shops can sometimes be an intimidating place. Especially for an idiot like me who likes to play DIY mechanic based on YouTube videos and forums and then drags their hacked up motorcycles to a professional to clean up the mess. I've received many an eye-roll and muttered profanity from real mechanics. No judgement here. Super friendly and super fast. I had my bike towed here out of convenience but I drove off wondering why I hadn't been coming here the whole time. Gross criminal negligence describes the actions of Garage Company's mechanics who gave me back my bike with missing and/or loosened bolts and parts and a dangerously loose axle. I had a hairy ride home controlling a bike that fishtailed constantly during the height of afternoon rush hour. Yoshi, the owner, seemed genuinely shocked and concerned and insisted I allow him to tow my bike back to GC. I said I'd call up the next day and arrange to have it towed then. I was picked up near Del Amo blue line station by one of the mechanics who operates a tow business independently of GC. I was charged $100 for the 10 mile trip. Yoshi refused to cover any of the cost feigning no connection to the towing company, despite the fact that I was steered towards them. read more

I realized this shop not only installed a set set of CR carbs that were junk, too big for my 750 and broken, but this sleazy shop never gave me back the original 4 Keihin stock carburetors it removed from my bike when the faulty CR carbs were installed, Keihin carburetors which were perfectly working carburetors ... this guy robs customers from all and any possible angles ... a real shark of a mechanic ! read more

Will never visit this shop ever again not even for a simple oil change spent over 1000$ to get my progressive heavy duty kit spring switched out to some cheap Chinese spring kit on my Harley filed a civil law suit against him he hasn't responded to my replies if he sees this he can reply to me and I'll void the lawsuit but other than that I will follow through. My bike almost caused my death due to a cheap kit spring save your receipts and take pictures of the jobs yoshi has his guys doing because you will be upset I asked him if my kit had any warranty and I was ignored didn't even last me 3 'months for my bike to break again but anyways don't go here. read more

When I first brought my bike to Yoshi, I couldn't find any reviews for Garage Company, which I thought was a little strange considering how many bikes were at the location. It turns out he had just relocated to this new location in Gardena. Would have helped me make a better decision had I read some of these reviews. After dropping off my bike, it seemed like they were going to start immediately on the bike as Yoshi began disassembly within the first few days. I even ordered some parts fastest shipping so I could keep up with the work, or so I thought. Yoshi chopped off the sub frame then didn't touch it for like 6 months. He had my bike for more than a year despite constantly telling me he would be done in a few weeks. If he needed more time, fine, just don't lie to my face. I can't help if I don't know what the problem is. He ended up subcontracting the work to another shop, who I had to pay. Even then, that was only part of the work. After he got my bike back, he ended up losing some of my parts because the shop is totally disorganized. Seems like Yoshi has a history of doing this with other customers though so I'd probably look elsewhere if you need anything other than a simple oil/tire change, maybe even outside Los Angeles since it seems like there aren't any shops here that want to work on carbureted bikes anymore. I lost my key so I asked the owner to do it, it not only took like a month but after telling me it was only $40, he make Some excuse to charge me $90 without asking for my approval. Then after keeping it for a month, constantly blowing me up 2 days straight talking about how he'll charge me for storage fee if I don't pick it up ASAP. This was on a Saturday. At least he fixed it. But he didn't even check if the ignition work or not when I asked lol. read more

I want to give these guys a better review, but I was frustrated by my experience and recommend that you be cautious with taking your bike. Either the timing of my drop-off was sub optimal or miscommunication from Yoshi led me to think that he did an actual full maintenance of my bike when that wasn't the case. I took in a 1985 Honda CB450 SC for full maintenance upon the recommendation of the folks at Bartel's Harley Davidson. They told me that the Garage Company would do a great job with the vintage Honda so I went ahead and did that. At first, I was impressed by the free pickup that Yoshi offered with Mike (really stand-up guy) and it was off to the shop. Unfortunately, much of the communication was subpar throughout the process. I was quoted $800+ to clean the carburetors, change the oil/filter, and to replace the gasket. Granted, I'm a new motorcycle owner so I had him do as much as he can. The bike was picked up on Tuesday, March 5th. He first told me that the bike would be done on Thursday the 14th but I got alot of radio silence from him via text until I called him up on the 20th and he said the bike was finished. I got the bike back and it ran nicely, except it wouldn't turn two days after. Must've been the dead battery he told me about. This was incredibly frustrating to experience because I was not given the full service I requested and he has yet to provide me with a final invoice of the work his mechanics did on the bike. To conclude, I would have given three stars if the communication wasn't poor. I work in an industry where communication and realistic expectation setting is necessary to keep customers. If I had been told that it would take 3 weeks to do a complete maintenance with replacement parts, I'd be totally fine with that because I knew that the work done was comprehensive. Instead, I got a patchwork job and am sending the bike elsewhere to get the electrical problems sorted out. I'm incredibly disappointed that I have to foot another bill for this bike and will not be taking my bikes back here in the future. read more

Let's just put aside, for the moment, that this hidden gem of a motorcycle shop is one of the most fun places to visit - period - due to it's owner's (Yoshi) insane collection of vintage and custom bikes scattered all over the place, unique collection of riding gear, and unpretentious coffee bar. It has all this and should warrant your visitation, motorcycle enthusiast or not. Instead, I'm going to aim this review at the actual SERVICE I received at The Garage Company on my 2004 Suzuku V-Strom 1000, a bike that was badly attended to by another establishment down the street (Metrik Moto, I'm calling you out here). After 2 grand worth of repairs at that other place, my bike ran worse than ever and no amount of taking it back to them resulted in it making it more than a few miles before breaking down. So, in desperation, I sputtered into this Inglewood landmark and took one more shot at getting my beloved motorcycle back on the road. Yoshi took on the challenge and I left the vehicle for a few days and his mechanic, Miguel, informed me that the previous mechanic had not only failed to bleed my clutch line after replacing the hydraulic slave cylinder, but left an un-diagnosed electrical problem that left the system unable to charge properly. There was also a small crack in the exhaust underneath that he repaired that halted the sputtering problem I was experiencing, and my bike is happily back on the road with me smiling again. Yoshi's price was more than fair and I have now found a trustworthy place for future services. Now, as i said in my first paragraph, The Garage Company is a place you need to visit simply based on the fact that it's a freaking cool place to hang out. Yoshi is a hoot and always up to chat about his passion for riding and you might even catch his wife hanging around if you're lucky. The coffee bar serves a damn decent cappucino and if you're looking for a jacket or helmet that you won't see on a hundred other riders, chances are you'll find it here. He can even locate rare parts for old bikes if you just can't find it on eBay. Go here. NOW. read more

Excellent work and incredible service. I brought my bike in over the weekend and it was complete fixed and tuned by Tuesday (they're closed Sunday and Monday). Yoshi and Miguel went above and beyond to take care of me and my ride. Even so far as to drive to Beverly Hills to bring me my key fob which was left at the shop. And the kicker are their rates. I was out for hundreds less than I expected to spend. If I weren't moving out of state these guys would be my go to shop. read more

Garage Company is indeed quite a place. As the reviews state, there's tons of vintage bikes, loads of parts and a very personable staff. I'm writing this so people who are considering having their bikes fixed at GC will be aware of the kind of shortcuts certain mechanics at GC have taken. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but it happened to me, and I'm forever jaded. **I also want to say I've only had 1 mechanic work on my bike at GC, so I'm not aware of the performance records of the other mechanics. I'm sure Yoshi or anyone else with half a brain would know that this is a bad idea. Unfortunately my mechanic at GC did not have half a brain. I needed my carburetor manifold boots replaced. I had this done right around last October. I'm not sure if people know about these, but they're installed between the carb and the engine. Anyhow, there are o-rings that form the seal, and over time, these will break down and will need to be replaced. They cost 5 dollars. For all 4. Anyhow, the mechanic who worked on my bike "didn't have a chance" to order new o-rings and used the same crusty cracked o-rings from the old manifold boots and used gasket sealer to make the seal. DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE??!!! GASKET SEALER??!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE. Look, if you don't have all the necessary parts to fix the bike PROPERLY, tell me to hold off for a week until you can get the parts. DON'T REUSE THE CRUSTY WORN OUT PARTS THAT WILL MAKE MY BIKE RUN LIKE SHIT IN 2 MONTHS!!! read more

TL;DR: - Did they fix it? yes, eventually - How long did it take? 2+ months. - How long did they say that it would take? 1 day + up to 5 days shipping for part. - How many mechanic hours did they charge? 8 hours. - How many mechanic hours did the mechanic say it took him? 20 mins. I bought a used Ural Retro from a private dealer. Within 10 miles of my first ride, something in the clutch blew. Since the bike isn't serviced everywhere, I took the recommendation of a friend and had it towed to the Garage company. The guys that came out to look seemed really nice. Not having worked on the bike before, they immediately went to the holy mechanic's literature on Google. It was a Friday and they asked if they could keep it over the weekend. So begins the most frequent complaint on Yelp. I'd call....leave a message...call again...finally get Yoshi or his wife. Simple standard response: part is coming in (2-5 days), call back on whatever-day. After 4 weeks of this cycle (6 weeks total), I started to get heated on the phone. They stopped calling back. I called more often. When I did get someone it was the same response 3 more days for the part and then they'd fix it in a day, call back on Thursday. And then one day, 20 mins after I called again, they called back and said it was fixed. Come by to pick it up. I race over to pick it up before they close and am handed a bill for 4 times the estimate that they quoted me. Yoshi's wife handles the transaction and when I raise a protest she immediately goes on the defensive and makes herself busy with other paperwork, "this is the cost/ its expensive to work on those bikes/ its been here a long time/ etc.). It is obvious that they are used to charging exorbitant prices. I tried to object that this was not what I was quoted but meet a stonewall. If I was a bigger a-hole, I probably should/would have continued to fight the price. But after over 2 months, I just want my bike. So I relent and conclude that I'll never come back. To pour salt on the wound, when I went out to get my bike, the mechanic tells me that the bearing that blew was so small and just took 20 minutes to replace. So that comment gave me the inspiration to write this negative review. Sure they took advantage of me; hopefully that short gain will cost them in the long-run as you read this review and decide to take your bike elsewhere. Other tidbits: - the photos you see online are not what the shop looks like. Everything is a mess. Old and dusty. Some cool stuff in the shop but it looks more like a flea market than the prices they are selling the stuff for. Use these guys only as a last resort and expect to be taken for all that your bike's worth and then some. Maybe then you can ride it next year. read more

I almost hate to write a review of this shop because I don't want them to get too busy or too expensive. Also, I'm going to sound hyperbolic and insane, but I need to say something. These guys are incredible. Yoshi is like a zen-master when it comes to vintage Japanese bikes. After having my ride's carbs shredded by another shop (who shall forever remain nameless and dead to me now), I took it to The Garage Company on the advice of a couple of friends. I'm glad I did. Yoshi's crew put my 1976 Honda CB550 back together like new. She runs better now than she ever has. In fact, I recently completed a 2-day trip to Death Valley and ran her full-throttle for about 10 hours each day. Didn't have a single issue. I was even crushing a couple of other guys; one who was on a '07 Triumph and another who was on a 2011 Ducati Monster. All thanks to Yoshi and Co.! These guys are the real deal. No joke. Besides having world-class mechanics, it's just a great place to hang out, shoot the shit and look at a ton of awesome bikes of all makes and models. There's always something new to see. They probably think I'm a freak, but I've been swinging by on my lunch break lately just to hang out. I'm planning on having them do a few more upgrades soon, if for no other reason than I don't want them to tell me to stop loitering. read more

a religious motorcycle experience. i'm appalled that i've never even heard of the garage company until a recent episode of the new show "cafe racer." although it only relocated to this 18,000SF space in inglewood recently, they were in marina del rey for TWENTY years prior to that. the episode portrayed the garage company and it's owner/collector/historian/mechanic/soul, yoshi, accurately: it's one man's (supported by the coolest wife ever) incredible personal collection gone wild of over 150 bikes and an entire warehouse of parts and memorabilia. when you walk in, it's literally overwhelming. every cool classic bike that you've ever seen, dreamt of, or fondled yourself over is there. and every set of leathers, autographed helmet, magazine, and stock or trick part is there too. what's especially impressive is that ALL of the bikes START!!! i have only 3 bikes, and on any given sunday, chances are at least one of them won't start. what is a bit confusing is where the collection ends and the store begins. i suspect for the right person, trade, amount, or moment, anything at garage company could be for sale, but the only items that are plainly marked with prices are the t-shirts. confusing, sure, but incredibly charming if you think about it. the shop does do repairs, customizations, maintenance, etc. at standard rates, but as you can imagine the wealth of classic bike knowledge in that warehouse in inglewood is amazing. and as the breadth of his collection demonstrates, yoshi loves all classic bikes and is incredibly gracious and enthusiastic to fans of any make or year. it's the kind of shop, and he's the kind of guy, where i'm already fantasizing about a conversation that starts with, "yoshi, for $X amount of money, what's the coolest thing you could build me?" fantastic. read more

They just moved to a new location in Inglewood from their former storefront on Washington Blvd. and DAAAMMMNN is the place huge. The new location which is about 3 times larger than the former, now has more vintage bikes on display, more space for the technicians, and a stockpile of vintage parts which were previously not visible or for sale at the old spot. If you dig vintage motorcycles, you won't be disappointed. I think of this place as a living shrine to motorcycling. Hell, motorcycling is my religion, and Garage Company is my church. Before they moved, I would come in here at least once a week during my lunch break... I was obsessed with this place. Well, as I had also commissioned them to help me with my custom cafe racer. They were happy to let me 'art direct' the build as Kiyo (an incredibly knowledgeable technician and builder) performed the fabrication. Yoshi (the owner) initially told me that the build would take about a month, but that month stretched into about 7 months. I'm not complaining as the results came out great... but just be aware that custom builds take time. Good work takes time. I genuinely don't think Yoshi is trying to dupe anybody, it's just that they're swamped with requests. It was fortunate that I worked in an office about a block from the old shop and was able to go in once a week to subtly nudge them to make progress on my build. I've heard that custom builds from this shop can take years to complete... you'll be disappointed with their service if you approach bike building like surfing the interwebs - demanding and expecting immediate results. There's a good crew of guys here, and if you've got a vintage bike that needs repair, restoration, or other professional work done, it'll be in the excellent hands of other passionate riders. read more

I took my running Kawasaki KZ 1000 police bike to wire up the turn signals and brake lights, and i THOUGHT i was just getting an oil change also but when I came to pick it up it was $220 which i dont understand how it's that's much to wire up some lights and change oil and the bike didn't run and then the mechanic stated that the Pistons and valves are bad and showed me a crushed spark plug and said it was going to be $2000 to fix. I recently replaced the spark plugs, you guys also previously said that you couldnt put together my motorcycle easily when I got it or get it running and i did it all by myself and it RAN perfectly until I took it to your shop, i'm not satisfied with the end product at all, i don't see how it can not run just from you guys wiring the lights and getting oil change DO NOT TAKE YOUR MOTORCYCLE HERE read more

It took over a week to change my oil and filter. Oh yeah, it also cost me 350 dollars!!! Oil filter, spark plugs, and air filter, what a rip off!! I should have taken it to the dealership instead, at least there they check all critical fasteners, adjust throttle, clutch and primary belt etc. They also got oil all over my engine when changing out my oil filter. If you're a fan of motorcycles or motorcycle culture you MUST visit this location. I hesitate to call the Garage Company a store because many of the items at the location are not for sale. This place is almost a motorcycle museum. The Garage Company always has an a great selection of vintage bikes inside and out back, in the work area, there are some great works-in-progress. The Garage Company has a great selection of motorcycle shirts (BSA shirts!) and some really great vintage helmets. The place is a bit cluttered but I think that adds to its charm. read more

I recently bought a CB400 that needed the carbs rebuilt; I was referred to the Garage Company by a neighbor of mine. I called and spoke to a gentleman named Yoshi, who was very helpful over the phone and told me it would be $200.00 to rebuild 2 carbs. However, when I went in the next day, Yoshi was no where to be found and the person that was now helping me told me it would cost me $295.00 and will be done in 2-3 days. I dropped off my carbs on a Wednesday and when I called on the following Tuesday to see when I would be able to pick them up, I found out that they had yet to start working on them. They promised me they would be done by Thursday, so when Thursday arrived I called again to see what the status was, I was then told that they couldn't start rebuilding the carbs without a certain kit; which they charged me an extra $150.00 for without my authorization. We are now a week and a half in and at $445.00; from what I was told would be $200.00 and completed in 2-3 days. If you want to get robbed, go here!! I just got my '79 Yamaha serviced at Garage Company and it couldn't have gone easier. They came and picked my motorcycle at my house and got it tuned up the next day. It was a pretty standard tune and I couldn't be happier. Yoshi is super cool and a vast wealth of knowledge. The shop is awesome and its huge! Picked up a shop manual and picking up a couple of helmets and I would recommend this spot to anyone. read more

I recently took my 05 Springer to South Bay Customs where the Owner, Michael completely butchered it, then proceeded to get a nasty attitude with me when I held him accountable for his shoddy work. His attitude was so bad that I decided I would rather pay someone else to fix his mistakes than have to deal with him and being treated poorly. I took it to Yoshi at the Garage co. He not only fixed SBC's hack job, but he pointed out other things they did wrong and made them right. Yoshi's ability as a mechanic and visionary is unmatched, and the mechanics working for him are top notch. He fulfilled every commitment that he made to me and when I went to pick up the bike, he actually charged me less than his original estimate. This experience was almost too good to be true. I now see myself in Yoshi's shop frequently having things tweaked on my ride...his professionalism and friendliness is second to none. Thanks Yosh! read more

I realized I never followed up - Yoshi or rather his mechanic fixed my old 1969 Yamaha 125! Yep, got it running and for less money than I thought possible! LOVE LOVE LOVE all LOVE for GARAGE Co Yoshi and his team!!! They are the best and I give them the HIGHEST POSSIBLE recommendation!! I had asked a few other places and they gave me lots of attitude and negativity...not the Garage Co..they had enthusiasm for my vintage bike, took the time to show me little tricks as well as put up with my ridiculous questions with no attitude! Yoshi was so kind, he completely worked with me with the costs..I never expected they would get my bike running..I thought they would just tell me what I needed to do, how much it was going to cost sort of thing and well, they got my bike running for me instead!!
