Garcia's hosted one of our management meetings and did an excellent job. The staff was attentive, kept our drinks full, and was accommodating of dietary restrictions and allergies. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and comfortable, including the bathrooms. The coffee was good, the Sprite was perfectly carbonated, and the mini conchas were delicious. I had the taco salad, which was good, but the enchiladas looked amazing. The rice and beans were especially flavorful. They had a full bar, ATM and big patio! Always great tasting food. I always get the #10 - chili relleno, enchilada, taco, rice and beans for $19.99; it's big enough for 2 meals. Also, the chips and salsa are the best in the area. This literally used to be my all-time favorite restaurant growing up. When my dad said he was going to Garcia's our faces would light up and we'd know the night was going to be a good one with delicious Mexican food. We attended an event here last night and this is a classic Phoenix haunt. My Wife has childhood memories or going to this place with her parents in the early '80s. She don't think a whole lot changed. Food and service was fair, didn't mind going however, it isn't a place that is worth the drive for me from the east to west valley. We arrived mid afternoon, so ample parking and no weight for a table. I love the history behind this original Garcia. They have an extensive menu and I appreciated. The lunch specials went until 4 PM. I had the lunch version of Pollo Fondo, which is one of my most favorite dishes and This one was excellent. I'm not a big fan of the rice, but the beans were creamy and good. Chips and salsa were plentiful and we tried the spinach queso dip for our appetizer. My husband's taco salad looked good, but he was not a fan of the black beans, nor the shredded beef. Overall, great service, and I even tried their cucumber margarita special, which was surprisingly refreshing. read more

Took my mother for dinner to celebrate her 80th Birthday. She wanted carne asada with rice and beans. To her surprise, the carne asada look like picado with the rice and beans looking like it was leftovers...all mixed together. Normally, the rice is on one side and the same with the beans. Fun place to enjoy Mexican food! They have a large dining room that offers space for large gatherings and small intimate ones. I enjoyed my green chili cheese tamale. It felt like eating a soften green chile corn bread. I want to try more dishes. read more

in the strip mall on 35th Avenue and McDowell. This was my Dads favorite restaurant for a Mexican pizza. Took friends out of town to eat there to eat so was part of 7. Ordered a pizza in honor of my Dad and chimichanga for me. The pizza came out cold but we decide to just eat it. Kept having to ask for stuff and even friend stated that food has gone down hill. Gratitude was added and don't understand why since we were a party of 7. I wasn't happy about gratitude since the service was so bad, I would have never tipped that much. take out service has gone to the dogs. take out building has been closed and orders are being taken (actally trying to be taken) in main restaurant. this process does not work.. cannot call in, takes forever for an answer, when order has been placed it sits on the back table and is cold even if your right there waiting for it. I honestly think there must be something wrong with the chef's taste buds because the food was unbearably salty--it was nearly inedible. On top of that, the service was disappointing. The waitress was rude and kept disappearing. Every time she asked if I needed something, I would tell her, but it would take over 20 minutes for her to return, even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all. I Just now changed my rating here from 2 stars total to one. You're just lazy. Even the rice wasn't correct. Dried out, no flavor. Barely colored. No flavor left from before or ever. This rice was never a Spanish rice, a Mexican rice. Ever. A very poor, poor effort. The Chile Colorado was a complex concoction of nothing. Tasted like someone cared and ended up without a flavor. Another $16 entry that amounted to nothing. The guacamole was tasteless. No flavor. Like packaged. A blob. Thanks for not one but two globs of nothing. $50 completely down the drain. Hey Kitchen! Absolutely Disappointed After 30+ Years of Loyalty I have been a loyal customer of Garcia's Mexican Restaurant for over 30 years, and I have never experienced anything like what happened on the evening of July 29, 2025. We were a party of 17 celebrating a special evening, and what unfolded was nothing short of a disaster. First and foremost, the service was downright horrible. It took forever just to get drink refills, and when we politely asked the servers, they acted annoyed and frustrated--clearly not interested in providing even the bare minimum level of hospitality. Now to the food. We ordered three 1-pound steak fajitas, and what we received looked and tasted like charcoal--completely burnt and inedible. When we brought it to the server's attention, the response we got was, "What do you want me to do about it?" That alone was enough to ruin the night. Eventually, they agreed to remake one of the orders--just one. When it came back, it was clearly not the full portion and was missing the correct tortillas. We kept getting corn tortillas, even though we specifically asked for flour multiple times. After much back-and-forth, the server finally attempted to resolve the issue, only to return 15 minutes later to say the kitchen was out of meat and now closed. We were there at 6:00 PM--it was now 8:30 PM--and most of us still hadn't eaten. My daughter received a tamale that was literally sitting in a plate full of water--completely unappetizing. My cousin's burro was so over-salted it was barely edible. When we asked to speak to the manager, he came over clearly irritated. Though he offered a half-hearted apology, his response was basically, "What do you want me to do other than fix it?" Then he informed us (again) that the kitchen was closed and they had nothing left to serve us. To make things worse, he claimed his staff told him that I refused to order anything else, which was simply not true. We asked why only one fajita meal was removed from the bill, and he repeated that the kitchen was closed and acted like he couldn't care less. I told him this was the worst service I've ever experienced, and he made it very clear he didn't care. When I suggested I might not pay for food no one actually got to eat, he shrugged and said, "I don't care, you can leave without paying--but don't come back." At this point, the two servers and the hostess started yelling at our party, accusing us of trying to get them in trouble and insisting we had to pay the full bill. I told them what the manager (who they then claimed was actually the owner) had said, and they continued to argue as we were leaving. It was completely unprofessional and embarrassing. We even offered to pay for the meals and drinks our parents did receive, but the servers refused and said it was "all or nothing." So we paid nothing. After decades of visiting Garcia's and recommending it to countless friends and family, I am honestly heartbroken to write this. I sincerely hope they take a good hard look at their staffing, training, and leadership, especially if the person we dealt with is truly the owner. Customer service should be the foundation of any successful restaurant. If anyone at Garcia's is unsure of what that looks like, I'd be more than happy to help you understand it--because what we experienced was unacceptable by any standard. read more

(However, I noticed many little flys around the table) So this used to be a favorite of my family but the food has definitely changed. The salsa was extremely tasteless. Actually it was pretty bad. So was my food. I had the deep fried chicken things with the cheese on top and the chicken inside taste very bad and I was actually scared to eat it. I didn't. Friend had the beef burrito with red sauce. There used to be so much meat! Stuffed in these. Now it's mainly sauce. Definitely cut back on the meat and cheese. Speaking of cheese we had the cheese crisp it used to be one of my favorite things but now it's just mid at best. Some of the worst service I've ever had and seen. Server rushed through our food order we did not get a chance to order our drinks. One of the orders came out wrong...twice. The sever himself never apologized for anything until a comment was made to him. The only reason we had water was because of the lovely woman bringing out the chips. We ordered early in the day for 5:30 pm delivery. Order arrived on time. BUT, food was COLD (not lukewarm, COLD). Shrimp enchilada was mushy, cold and lacked any flavor. Rice was COLD and bland. Cheese enchiladas were mushy, cold and without flavor. Beans were flat. It appeared no spice or flavorings were added to the dishes. Extremely disappointing meal. Delivery was on time, but the product was not acceptable. We live in the neighborhood, and have often gone to the take out service at their location. We stood WHILE they made the dinners, so at least they were hot. But flavor has been disappointing lately, and today totally unacceptable. The OG Garcia's is a simple place. It's been here forever and it may look a little retro but it's a nice place for a family dinner. We've come here a few times. It's a chain restaurant so it's not the greatest Mexican food you'll ever have however it's still quite good. Chips and salsa are served before the meal. The most recent time I went I tried the pollo fundido, which is probably not strictly a Mexican dish but it was pretty tasty especially if you like cream cheese. I mostly enjoyed the different textures. My favorite so far is the spinach enchilada with chicken. Portions are huge so expect to take home a to go box! We've always been seated quickly with very polite waiters who are quick to refill and check but are masters of stopping by and disappearing when not needed. read more

Worst experience I ever had here! We came to celebrate a special occasion and the bartender was extremely rude. Nobody checked on us the entire time or came to clear our table. Any time I wanted to order a drink I had to get up and go ask. She kept getting her manager to take our order because she refused to do her job. This is one of my "go to" spots for Mexican food. It's consistently good and never disappoints This Garcia's is different than all the others. I actually don't care for the others. It consists of two building, one for dining and one for takeout. The decor is pretty much the same over the years. Old school. Well I ordered the Taco Steak meal which is steak and grilled onions with cheese on top. Served with rice and beans and tortillas. Very tasty and tender steak. Onions were cooked perfectly. I will never return nor recommend. The person taking the order was extremely rude. The last time we went was a couple years ago and was horrible, I tried again today thinking maybe they were having a bad day. Never ever again! My husband got the combo 5 which was the chicken flautas. They were so soggy and the chicken had no flavor, not just flavorless, but tasted so bad! He threw his dish out before I can photograph it. My combo had a 2" tamale with a sliver of meat, all masa. The dish was covered in brown lettuce. I thought the foil that came with my food mightve been a flour tortilla because of how soft it was...it was my soggy taco! How can they serve that to anyone? If you're going to increase your price, improve the quality of your food! What happened? I grew up going to Garcias and now We're just DISGUSTED! Taco bell puts them to shame!
