I was going to give 2 stars thinking maybe my experience was not the norm but after reading through the reviews it appears that serving burritos full of grissle, cartilage and fat is a regular thing. I've been to Garcias several times and this most recent visit was a huge disappointment considering the price of our beef fajita and carnitas burritos. If you're going to charge $15+ per burrito just do it right! If you can't afford to cut out the gristle and fat then charge $20! There is no acceptable reason for serving this disappointment. I usually stop by a few times while I'm in town visiting family for vacation but not this time. read more

This little restaurant is soooo good! My friends, husband, and I all love getting something from here, our favs are the breakfast burritos, quesabirria for sure, and the chilaquiles were bomb too! Sometimes it's pretty busy but I wouldn't say the wait is very long. The service we received was super welcoming and nice! The food and the service are utterly amazing! The salsa bar doesn't hurt either! I especially like their chorizo breakfast burritos!

We really enjoyed our first visit here. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you. Chips & salsa are complimentary. Prices were reasonable and portion sizes were perfect; not too much, and not too little. I had the birria burrito bowl, minus salsa & onions. They prepared it exactly as I asked. It was served in a real bowl, layers of Mexican goodness. I would definitely have this again. My wife ordered two black bean tacos. They are authentic street-type tacos; this ain't Taco Bell! She said they were well seasoned and had more of those layers of good stuff. I liked that they had the Dodgers game on the TV, but that wouldn't have been a deal breaker. My husband drove 15 minutes to pick up our food. We were missing 3 items, 3 items were wrong and it was cold. The only thing they got right was the kids bean rice and cheese burritos. Spent $90 on this meal and they were unwilling to make this right for us. We will not be returning. Bummer. read more

Ordered a couple of ala carte items. Haven't been to the new location. As most of you regulars know most is a fave of yours. The place was very clean with plenty of tables, salsa bar and a real good women's restroom. The food is served on thick, hard plastic plates. I don't believe because of the rainy day as kitchens are always hot, the plates are just at the above cold level, warm would be nice and kept in a warmer. The food was tasty, could of been hotter with the cheese melted more like burn your mouth like other places that use potholders to carry them. Yes, I know it is plastic they could be warm. read more

Moved to AG in '95. Pismo had Tio Alberto's. For all South County, Garcia's is just like it. Large, great for the go, burritos! I was told that they are related and the salsa's, chips, rice, are the same. Garcia's used to be in a little hole-in-the-wall on EL Camino. Now, they are a little further down and took over an old bank. Now they have plenty of seating inside and out. Very clean. They are always very outgoing and deliver awesome service. I ordered the Lg Pollo Verde Burrito, no beans. The burrito was actually a little small compared to what it normally is. Huge tortilla, fluffy rice, with a little sweetness/bite from carrots and peas in it. The cheese is melted. I wish they put a little more cheese. The Pollo Verde is always very flavorful, salty, tangy, juicy, smokey, vinegary and acidity. Fresh chopped white onion and cilantro add freshness, bite, and that beautiful fragrance that lets you taste the tradition. I wish the chips were cooked to order, instead on a warming tray. The homemade salsa's are great, all levels of heat. The price now is a little steep, my burrito was +$18. *Would be 5/5 if the burritos sizes were more consistent, a little more cheese always and the chips were fresh.* read more

My aunt, uncle, cousin, wife and I stopped by for lunch on a Thursday around noon. The place is easy to find located in an old bank building complete with drive-up windows that are no longer in use. We joked that they could deliver burritos through the vacuum tubes. The dining room was busy but several tables were open for us to pick from. Order at the counter, grab some chips and salsa and have a seat. Our food came out in a reasonable timeframe. I got a single pastor (pork) soft taco combination. The taco was double soft shell and stuffed with meat. I was easily able to build two tacos out of the one served to me. They give you a pile of shredded lettuce, chopped tomato and dollops of sour cream to complete the assembly. My pork taco was ok but not particularly tasty. Perhaps adding some pineapple to it would have helped. The refried beans were great though and the rice good too. The staff working here were pleasant. The dining room was clean and they had two large TVs on showing soccer er football games. read more

This was our first visit while traveling to Atascadero and we enjoyed the food. We ordered for pickup and everything was ready on time. There is a salsa and chip bar with lidded containers so you can take some chips and salsa to go. The pickled jalapeños and carrots were spicy! The salsas we got were good. Loved the burritos we got, they were very filling. I had the shrimp burrito (huge shrimp inside) the rest of my party got carne asada. The only thing that was disappointing was that we ordered a side of guacamole and they said sure but gave us a ramekin of what was clearly some version of avocado crema- light green with a liquid mayo/yogurt creamy consistency and clearly not guac. Got a three item combo...it was just ok. Enchilada had a good sauce but it was just a folded store bought tortilla with some shredded chicken plopped in and the sauce spooned on top. Not gonna lie, I was not a fan years ago but my coworker bought me a beans, rice, cheese, and salsa burrito this week and I have NO CLUE WHY but it was THEE BEST BURRITO I've had in my life. The beans were the best consistency, the rice was soft and flavorful, the green sauce added an extra boost of flavor! This hidden gem is a great stop to pick up nachos or burritos, my coworker always orders their nachos and he cannot stop raving about the great service, the amount of meat he receives each order and how it's a great vibe going to Garcia's for lunch. This is my go-to Mexican restaurant in all of SLO county. I have been to several other places. Don't get me wrong, they're all very good as well. But, Garcia's just takes the cake by a mile. I have been to Garcia's so many times now. I remember going to their old location. It was so small and had no space. They had a few tables and were primarily setup for takeout. I then come back to find out that they were moving. Their new location.. Oh my god. It is so much larger than before. They actually have a parking lot. Where before, you couldnt even park. I am so happy they expanded to this new location instead. There is now much more seating to actually sit down and have a meal. When I come in, I am greeted by the same face. I assume he's a manager. By this point, he knows who I am. He always greets us like old friends. Such an amazing attitude all the time. I have never felt like he hates his job. He is also always so attentive and makes sure you're good. My favorite thing to order is their Super Nachos. It comes with your choice of meat, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, salsa, beans, etc. They give out so much food with each dish. My Mom ordered their tacos thinking they would be small (like many other places) but she was shocked to find that they are extremely large. Amazing new location for Garcia's at a bank building prior. Remodeled to include a separate area for private party, a salsa and chips bar, large soda and other drinks in their refrigerator, great menu boards, including a large selection for Vegetarian Menu of it's own. I got there to gain lunch to go enough for two, so didn't help myself to any chips. I got full from 2 Sopes, pork with green sauce, but have chili rellanos, sp? With rice and beans for dinner, later. My first review of this establishment. I've heard alot of good things about Garcia's and even read some reviews before we decided to give this restaurant a try and I have to say... I want to be positive, but this was a big let down. We ordered the combination enchilada plate,... one cheese enchilada and one chicken with rice and beans, rice and beans were cold and the enchiladas tasted like my childhood Swanson TV dinner, my wife didn't finish her plate... I looked around and saw the clientele which should've given me an indication, Caucasians, my wife was the only Hispanic in the restaurant. Sorry to be a downer, but was not impressed at all. I did ask a few folks how their food was, one ordered the nacho supreme and said, that's all they ever order, another said they have the tacos and sometimes it's tasty, but hit and miss with flavor one day and bland the next. The prices as you can see in the pictures are really reasonable for ala cart, but the burritos on the other hand were very high as well as some other menu items. Chips were very hard and salsa bar was a little different from what I'm used to. Place is a small hole in the wall but folks didn't seem to care much as they were in and out for takeout. Staff up front at the counter, the young man didn't really help much and I could barely hear him speak, basically was a serve yourself as they would rather chit-chat with each other. Garcia's has some of the best food I have had in general but definitely the best in Atascadero. We eat there often and usually order the veggie burritos. Today I had the chile relleno and the special taco. My husband had the veggie fajita burrito. When I saw the chile relleno coming to the table I could already tell it was going to be great. (I'm a chile relleno critic) To my pleasure it was excellent and the taco was the best non meat taco I have ever had. They do a great good with the vegetarian menu and they put a lot of flavor in their food. We believe everything was so good because they put love in their food and it comes out in flavor. The service is also excellent and if you are a soda drinker like I am just know the drinks a perfectly adjusted. read more

We stopped by the new Garcia's restaurant for early dinner-late lunch. Never having been to the old Garcia's I don't have a comparison. It's not really what I would call a restaurant. It's more a stand. You order at the counter and are given a number. The seating is cafeteria style without any ambiance at all. The register person calls your number when ready and I believe they would like you to come get your food. I also believe they'd like you to bus your own table too. The food was basic Mexican fare. Nothing fancy or remarkable. In fact what I thought was guacamole is really some kind of light green "guacamole" sauce. When I asked where the guacamole was they pointed to that. With all the Mexican choices around I don't see why I'd go back there. Also...no margaritas! Only some beers in a refrigerator...which, of course, you get yourself. We were looking for a highly rated fast food and came across this gem. Upon entry, it appeared to be enjoyed by the locals. Very simply decorated and has very basic tables and chairs. We came to order to-go. The menu has a lot of burritos (various proteins available) along with some tacos and more. The staff was friendly and inviting. They have a salsa bar and fresh tortilla chips. All that we tasted was delicious. Ultimately, we decided upon the carnitas burritos. We live in an area that has a LOT of good Mexican food. Ugh. I haven't been on a good run of late. Three 2-star reviews in a row, and before that, a 3-star. I promise the next one will be better. On the way to SF, I stopped for gas off the 101 freeway. I filled up the car, and it was time I filled up my tank, too. There's not much off this exit, food-wise, but there is Garcia's -- a Yelp 4.0 star -- a little Mexican spot. Street parking, and a side lot. Once inside, it's not much to look at. Aged, painted in Mexico's national colors (white, red, green)...it's fine. The menu is LARGE with many options for meats, but all the usual suspects. But why are the tacos so expensive? They're at least $1 more than should be. 1. Chips & Salsa [$free, 3.5 stars] -- the chips were fine (not warm or thin), and the AYCE salsa bar had 3 speeds of salsas and radishes. Meh. Not presented well. 2. Crispy beef taco [$3.50, 3.5 stars] -- tasty shredded beef, but the taco shell didn't taste fresh...perhaps cooked earlier and stuffed with meat, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. The lettuce was wet and larger chopped. 3. Crispy chicken taco [$3.50, 2.5 stars] -- much of the same above, and although white meat, it had a hint of canned not fresh. 4. Carnitas soft taco [lg $3.50, 1.5 stars] -- looked great and the tortillas held together with, but I didn't like the meat AT ALL. Unseasoned, chunked, and very fatty. At half, and threw it away. 5. Rice [$1.50, 3.5 stars] -- a side of rice, nice portion, fluffy. Salsa and a few peas. Did the trick. Glad I tried it, but won't return. read more
