Touch of Mexico has the small town feel in Templeton, CA.. Food that tastes authentic home cooked. Mexican, Central and South American comfort food. I happen to be eating next door and noticed a steady trickle of people coming n going from Touch of Mexico. It peaked my interest enough that the next feeding time, we decided to dine there. Good decision. The staff was welcoming. The interior has simple ambiance. The vibes and food were also simply comforting. The Hubs ordered a crispy taco and tamale Combo. He liked both. I took a bite of the tamale. Yum. The menu stated ground beef but it was what I consider shredded beef. The beef was seasoned well, nice flavor. The sauce over the tamale was ah-mazing. I ordered a sope. I would have preferred the sope being fried a bit longer. It was on the softer vs fried crispy texture. read more

Came here with friends of the family that our Templeton locals. This restaurant was very inviting with a friendly staff. Really enjoyed the chips and salsa before the meal and then as it was Tuesday, we ordered the taco tacos. I had two Al Pastor and two Chile Verde. They were all delicious. This place has been in business for many years now. I had forgotten about it and was reminded by a friend about how good it was. My wife and I went and, it was as good as I had remembered it! So good. The food has such good flavor. I am one who really likes their burritos. Especially with the red sauce on them. It has such an authentic taste to it! I guess you could call it a hole in the wall type of restaurant. It's definitely small but don't let that deter you from trying it. The service is always good. The staff is always friendly and they take care of you. It's definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in northern San Luis Obispo county. Try it out. Bring your friends. This is an unexpected surprise! My step-son suggested meeting here so we did. Small place but had plenty of seating. I wasn't totally into mexican, but I was going to give it a try. Upon arriving, when I looked at the menu, I noticed chimichanga, which I normally love from a mexican restaurant and I noticed they had fish and chips. I asked the waiter that night, which was better. Because I feel by doing that, they know the chef and can say what the chef does best. That night was the fish and chips. Which wow, The BEST fish and chips I have ever had!!!!! However, saying that, someone eles had got the chimichanga and it was good too. But I will say I was happy that I got the fish and chips b/c I just felt like that more than anything else. It was light, super crispy and great flavors! When I crave fish and chips, this will be the unusual place to go. Hands down the best so far. Flaky, light, crispy outside, and soft inside. Best I have ever had. First and foremost their food is quite tasty! We must have been there at a VERY different time than review given by Irene S on 9/18/23, because the food has NEVER been prepared for us in a timely manner. This was the 4th or 5th time we've been there, and by choice. Prices are reasonable, the food is tasty, and the waitresses are nice. I tend to make up my own meals, and they not only don't complain but they also don't charge us outrageously for the meal. Our issue is how long it takes their kitchen to make something correctly that comes straight off their menu. He ordered eggs sunny side up, they served him eggs over easy. She wrote it down correctly. The cook wasn't paying attention, and neither was she or she wouldn't have served us the food. I ordered a chicken enchilada and home fries. That isn't a meal offered on the menu. Those are 2 side orders. They were not busy. We were 1 of 2 table, 2 of 4 customers. He would have sent it back, but our 2 meals took the kitchen 35 minutes to prepare! Again, we were 2 of 4 customers at 10:15 on a Saturday morning. Eventually, when we have over an hour to kill for a simple breakfast, we will try them again. Chulo's in Templeton would've charged us well over $50 for the same breakfast (we know because we've done it before) that Touch of Mexico charged us $35, and we would've had the food in about 15 minutes. read more

I have come here a lot in the past... This is my first visit post Covid. Today I missed breakfast so was happy to see the open light on at 11:00 am. There is a new look so maybe new owners? I asked. Same owner she just painted and spruced up a bit. There's a neon specials board and a new counter. About 10 tables inside. Also, an outside park-let too. Parking sucks so park across the street on the street and walk over - it's Templeton - no traffic here! A few people seated inside along with me. I ordered the carne asada breakfast burrito. First the salsa. Theirs is great always has been. Chunks of onions and cilantro in a thinner red sauce, spicy goodness. Fresh tasting as were the chips. They give you a basket upon arrival - no charge. Okay burrito time. Large flour tortilla stiffed with eggs, asada beef, fried potatoes and bell peppers. I ate one quarter of it. Not because or was not good but because this makes two meals for me! Bonus! $10. This is my tried and true local Mexican joint! Lots of calls coming in for takeout too! read more

This reminded us of old school Americanized Mexican food. I had the tamale and a pork and cheese lupus's. My friends got wet ground beef burritos. One green, one red sauce. They both enjoyed their burritos. Large generous portions. My tamale was also delish. The only thing I had an issue with was the pupusa. Too much cheese and not enough pork. The cheese solidified until I was like eating a cold mozzarella stick, just cheese but the pork that was inside had a great flavor, the curtido was bomb! Perfectly spicy, could not say more about the perfect blend of flavors. Also wish the beans were just a bit thicker but again good flavors throughout. Will definitely return in the future. read more

We knew the food was good & the parking lot was not full so we decided to try it for dinner. Great idea until a party of 8 or 10 arrived & sat outside after we got our chips & salsa & placed our drink order. About the same time we realized that the TO GO ORDERS were getting preference over customers already there. They needed to have more staff scheduled for a Friday night. I really love this place. Their Papusas are really good and well portioned as well as affordable. I also get a lengua wet burrito at least once a week from here and it is amazing! Quality, portion, and price are all great. They have a nice little outdoor patio too. The staff is always super nice too. Oh and their menudo is fire!! I haven't eaten here for a little while. I forgot how good the food is. My wife and I enjoyed sitting in the covered area outside (we can't wait until we can sit inside again). The food portion size is very large so you must bring a big appetite. I had the fish and chips along with a pupusa. My wife ate the two enchiladas plate. Rice and beans come with the combo and are tasty. My fish was three pieces of crispy battered goodness with a heaping serving of tarter sauce to go with it. The staff at Taste of Mexico are courteous and attentive. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Great salsa! That's where it ends. The service was poor and I was one of 3 tables in the place. My food was warm and flavorless- I had carnitas. My boyfriend had a burrito that was hot and salty. The fish looked almost uncooked, but warm.. I had skipped lunch because of travel but ended up losing my appetite after tasting the fish. The guacamole was grounded up green mush with cheese on top and had a funny aftertaste, guessing it was not fresh, the chips was definitely not fresh either. I got a bean tostado and a cheese enchilada plate. The bean tostado which is supposed to have a crispy tortilla on the bottom had a soft corn tortilla instead. Not like any tostado Ive ever had and I even asked when i ordered if it was crispy. So basically I had a big container of lettuce on top of refried beans on top of a soft tortilla. Weird and not good. The enchilada plate was fine but the rice smelled and tasted like chicken bullion. No hot salsa. Won't be going back read more
