Tonight will be our last night at one of our local Mexican food restaurants. Our last order was really not up to par but we just shrugged it off as a bad day! We have eaten there and had home delivery for over 10 years. Tonight not only was our food just warm we were charged an additional charge for special instructions we have always had with our order. For years! We don't feel warm and comforted by choosing a restaurant we have we liked a lot. A neighborhood place we so enjoyed because of the special instructions to our dining enjoyment. Food has no flavor. I ordered albondigas soup and was disappointed with the flavor. I also ordered a combo plate with shredded beef tacos. Also no flavor. Customer service was alright didn't conversation with me but he was nice to other regulars. My drink was given to me in a plastic cup which seemed unprofessional. The best thing I enjoyed were the chips. I don't think I will be retuning to this restaurant being that I'm pretty sure the rest of the food selection will have NO flavor as well. Randomly decided to try this place out and it didn't fuckn disappoint. (Excuse the language, i was that surprised by it) Sat down and were greeted by our waitress (didn't catch her name but she was nice and seemed to be everywhere taking care of everything) Didn't take long for her to take our order and bring our drinks and the house salsa and chips while we waited. Most salsas are cumin heavy but this one was on point, not too hot , not too mild I ordered the "giant burrito" wet with red sauce (pictured) and it was bigger than my head. Flavors were on point and I barely got through half of it before asking for a take out bag. My girl ordered the "steak ranchero" (pictured) and she finished the whole thing which she rarely does. I gotta admit, i ate most of the beans because when she offered me a taste they reminded me of my gmas! This is a taco Tuesday review--go to their taco Tuesday! The best of the bunch was the shredded chicken. It's a bit good greasy but is in a hard shell. The shredded beef was also good, and the carnitas was as well. One good thing with these $2.50 tacos is that they are loaded with lettuce and onions and tomatoes and so it feels like each one is a tiny salad. Tried this out for the first time with my husband. I ordered the asada fries and they were great. The fries lacked flavor but the asada tasted great as well as the guacamole. My husband ordered the chili colorado enchiladas. He enjoyed the rice and beans but the flavor of the sauce he didn't like and felt there was a lack of seasoning. Sunday morning Aug 31, I had been craving a bowl of menudo for sometime. I decided to go to LA Mexicana in Atascadero for my fix since it's very close to home. Service was quick and friendly. My son and I had the menudo and my daughter had the machaca with eggs. The menudo tasted as just as good as it looked. It didn't disappoint. It had plenty of tripe and it was served with a side of lime wedges, onion & cilantro and choice of corn or flour tortillas. Their version of menudo has hominy and "pata" (beef shank). It was delicious and hit the spot like a warm hug of comfort. It's the breakfast of champions, as that's how I felt afterwards, like a champion. The place was clean. My only gripe was at the outside entrance to the restaurant. It smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Thankfully, it was only outside. I quickly thought of the homeless lady who we had just walked by in the alley-way sitting next to the restaurant smoking cigarettes. Perhaps she uses the entrance area at night as shelter? Can't fault the restaurant for someone else's actions. Hopefully the staff will read this so they can improve the customer experience and clean & deodorize the entrance. La Mexicana has been a go-to for us for a long time. the nice thing about Atascadero and Paso Robles and Templeton is it there are so many Mexican restaurants to choose from it's it's really difficult to test them all regularly in make choices we enjoy La Mexicana the people know us almost by name at least by sight anyway and they always serve great food and we love their chili rellenos and their chile verde is always been most excellent . we're always happy to come in and have some chile rellenos oh maybe that burrito with chili verde I love that oh my God but they really do an excellent excellent fajitas. my oh my are they nice I'm going back now for dinner tonight probably read more

2/5 on food and service. 3/5 for the atmosphere. It's not that bad, but then again, it's not the greatest. Our server got an attitude on how I wanted my Asada Chile Verde burrito. I wanted it smothered with the Chile but instead got smothered in cheese. Rice was basically bread crumbs, and the only thing that was 5/5 that we ordered was the drinks(Mexican coke, two jarritos, and Sprite) . Meat was a little too burnt for my liking, and the steak we ordered was not seasoned correctly. Also, the salsa could be a bit spicier. Food is always pretty good here, I just wish they would improve the cleanliness of the restaurant itself. I feel like it is so out-dated, and just kind of dirty? I feel like a little could go a long way in making this place feel like a place you want to come hang out at and eat dinner. We have been there a few times since moving here. The first was great, the second not so great and the third time was just plain nasty! The last time we went was a saturday afternoon. My BF ordered a Taco Salad and I had a Chimichanga. His Taco Salad came out and the shell was WAY overcooked, there was a large puddle of water under it and a smear of beans holding it in place. The salad was bland and watery. The shell was sooo waterlogged it was nasty he ended up not finishing it. My Chimiganga was so greasy that the torilla was soggy with it and there was also a puddle of something on the bottom of it and my beans and rice. On the whole the lunch was a flaming disaster. I would have given this place 1 star if this where the first time I had eaten there...We were the only customers in the place so there really was no excuse. read more
