We've been a fan of this place for the food, even if the service is VERY hit or miss. We understand that the 'rona has caused everyone to adjust, to zig, to zag, etc., but we feel that if you're gonna do it, then do it to the best of your ability. To be fair, Garcia's call-in system is pretty good. They assign a space for you to park when you arrive so they know you're there and they know who you are. But, since this mess has started, the quality of the product they are offering has definitely gone downhill. They didn't give us and chips and salsa, and when we asked about that, they told us it would be an additional $4.95 for a SMALL order of chips and salsa! The portion of charra beans has mysteriously gotten smaller, too. So, they wanted us to pay 50% more for our food, just to have a small order of chips and salsa? Does that seem reasonable? Texican Cafe in Kyle includes chips and salsa and ample tortillas as part of the meal price. Look, I get it. If you're losing money or not making the usual margins, then OPEN your doors to 25% dine-in capacity as other restaurants are doing. The bottom line is this: If you're gonna do it, then do it RIGHT. My wife was sick so I ordered the Tortilla soup for pick up. I requested the pico be put on the side. Once I got home there was no pico in the bag. Next day she wanted soup again so I ordered and again requested the pico on the side. This time there was no pico and no tortilla chips. Make sure you check your order if you order pick up. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon, with a 10-15 minute wait for a table. Service was prompt and our waitress managed to be friendly even though she was very busy. the food was good, but unremarkable. We ordered sour cream enchiladas and a fajita plate. My preference is always for strong flavors that make an impression. So, I would not make a special trip, but if I was in the specific area with a craving for Mexican food I would try it again. Done with this place. Me and my wife stopped in for dinner. We have been eating at all of the Garcias Restaurants for over 20 years. This is the first time we have been done like this I can tell you the young woman manager has no customer service skills at all. Ordered the Garcias deluxe plate came out rice and beans and tamale tasted good. took a bite of beef tamale meat did not taste right after first bite tried another bite really bad. So I tried taco one bite and same horrible taste. Called waiter he went and brought manager i explained meat did not taste right. She asked what can I bring you i said 2 tamales. she said no she could not let me have 2 tamales. She had taken the plate away with taco and chalupa. She did not even bring chalupa back. She offered me one tamale. I told her just bring ticket I will never be back. She wanted me to pay full price for service not delivered. I told waiter I need ticket corrected she took half off plate. I explained to waiter this is horrible how she handled this as a manager. I recommend to anyone reading this do not waste your time eating at this Garcias. I will not waste my time bringing my family to these locations any more. The air conditioner was out as well. She doesn't care about the reputation o the Garcia family. This review is for Arielle who was running the TakeOut Orders today. Busy Sunday brunch, yet from the moment we spoke on the phone to when she brought my food to the car, Arielle was so kind and welcoming. So often on the phone you get the "we are busy, why are you calling" kinda vibe from people. Not from her. She was so nice and relaxed and professional. That said, the food here is AMAZING!! Everything from breakfast to dinner...can't go wrong. Definitely need to try more items but what I can recommend are the CHIPS AND QUESO (so so so good), the chicken fried steak, the breakfast tacos, and I think everything they serve is probably amazing. read more

Paid $5 EACH for barbacoa tacos! The tacos were small and wasn't even stuffed for that ridiculous price. I will definitely not be wasting my money there anymore. Visited Garcia's for breakfast on a Saturday. Great place to visit. Waited less than 10 minutes before being seated. Restaurant offers two open spaces and one outdoor area that was being remodeled. Food: Great taste overall. I ordered three single carne guisada tacos and added potatoes. Really enjoyed them. Meat was lean and well prepared. Corn tortillas were homemade and perfectly cooked. Food was not dripping with oil which is very common in mexican restaurants. Reslly recommend their food! Others in our group enjoyed their food as well! Drinks: Even though drinks and beers are part of their menu, we did not consume alcohol on this visit. Soda was good and coffee group ordered had good taste. Service: From the time we came in to when we left, we were treated well. We only waited 10 minutes and were quickly helped by our waiter. It pains me to say this because I've been going to Garcia's since 2005. I went to school at Texas State and will occasionally drive in from Austin just to eat here. Came on a Friday night at 8PM and requested to sit outside and was told that seating wasn't available even though there was a group out there. It's unacceptable that during a time like this, having a perfectly good outdoor area to help keep people safe, you all decide to close this area off. Especially on a weekend! Completely bummed out and had to drive back to Austin without eating here. read more

The food gets a 5, but the service gets 0. After we were seated, nobody came back. After 15-20 minutes, we went to the kitchen to ask for a waiter. When we finally got our order, I did not get soft tortillas for the fajita's, nor did i get the beans. The waiter said he would go get them. We never got to eat here because we left after waiting an hour. We let them know our party was incomplete but that they'd be there in about 20 mins as they were driving from Austin. We didn't realize they either don't add your name to the list until after your party arrives, or they completely forgot to put our name down as parties as large or larger who arrived after us were seated. To make it worse, we had 3 young kids with us. After the 6th group, mostly as large or larger than ours, was seated, we got up to leave. We made it to our cars before the hostess asked what our name was, and then said we were to be seated next. We were the only people who hadn't just walked in. Fantastic customer service. Lorraine was on top of it! Our teas were always full and she made sure we had everything we needed. This was my first time here and I had a great time. The sweet tea is delicious. Their tortilla soup was yummy and their chips were fresh. Really wish they had some menudo or caldo de res but they ran out. Guessing it's just that good. Not impressed. Environment was too warm.. maybe something wrong with the AC?? No veggies?? WTH? A Mexican Restaurant that runs out of veggies when they have a veggie quesadilla on the menu! This is the SECOND time they've ran out of veggies before 7:00. We came here around 5 and they were out then too. The server said they ran out this morning! There is an HEB just down the street! What about the veggies for the fajitas? The server didn't have a name tag. She was nice and attentive, but no name tag?! I don't think any of the servers have name tags... that is not professional. Soooo another Texmex fiasco in a college town with students waiting. Don't ask how we got there for dinner last night but alas we did. I didn't pick this joint!! It was filthy. Yuck! Can only imagine the things crawling around in kitchen and elsewhere. After waiting for 10 minutes, (place was over half empty), we were seated. Bam here's the menu what do you want? Hey back off sweetie! Never been here! Guess waitress had the attention span of a college millennial (about six seconds). The service was ok once we ordered. Food came out like it was all on a hot table which I am sure it was. Ordered the special (chicken with spinach) enchiladas with beans and rice. Rice was luke warm at best, tasteless, the beans were cold and sucked big time! Left 1/2 the rice and after tasting the beans left the rest of the meager portion. Ahhhh, the chicken/spinach enchiladas! Hold onto your sombreros amigos ! The were 2 Mission like (tiny) flour tortillas that you can buy a 100 of at Costco or Sysco for three bucks! About 1/2 an ounce well maybe an ounce 1/2 of shredded chicken and if there was spinach in it I couldn't see or find it. Tasteless and less than ordinary. I read a few reviews from what appeared to be mostly students. Chuckled by one who commented I defiantly recommend this place. Ahhhh millennials everywhere! I absolutely do not recommend this place. We had a party of 7 and there was a 25 minute wait. Very small waiting room that was full and we were not allowed to sit at the empty chairs at the bar. The hosts were very rude and told us to sit outside even though it was very cold. We had 3 ppl in our party that were 75 and older (one handicapped). Horrible customer service so we left and went to El Jefe - best decision we made because that place was fantastic! Food and staff were excellent!!! Will never go back to Garcia's. read more

I love their other location, so I was excited to see them opening a new location. (Also, I didn't even know this existed until my GPS directed me here instead of the location on LBJ.) Mexican food always sounds good after a day of floating the river and Garcia's did not disappoint. I love their chips and salsa and someone was walking around asking if we wanted to try their spicy salsa. We said yes, of course, and while it was spicier, I liked the flavor of their regular salsa better. Either way, I appreciated that they offered it to us and let us try it! I ordered the tamale dinner because that's what I was feeling and it was just as tasty as usual. Just your standard three tamales and rice and beans. If you've eaten those things before, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, then your life is sad and you should rectify that. Service was just fine and we had no complaints there. I liked that they put enclosed booths in at this location, too, just like their other location. That was pretty neat. This place has standard Tex-mex offerings and I have zero complaints. Terrible customer service! All I wanted was chips, hot sauce, and tortillas. In Fort Worth we always dip tortillas in the hot sauce. Every restaurant sells them separately. Well when I ordered just the tortillas the girl said they didn't sell them. So I asked how I could get some and she said I would have to order a full meal. I asked to speak to a manager not in a bad way or to complain but just to see if the manager could make an exception or figure something out for me. Right away she said we can do it this time and had a price. We didn't yell or complain just simply asked. She could have said no. When my boyfriend went to go pick it all up the MANAGER gave him attitude and made a snarky comment under her breath after he said the tortillas were for me. I don't know why they acted like it was such a big deal to just order tortillas. And if it was that big of a hassle to just add tortillas on for me she should have said no! Garcias is always a staple in San Marcos. When I go home, the first thing I want is some queso and chips from here. Think comfort Mexican food - chicken tortilla soup, enchiladas, and the best chicken fried steak ranchero I've ever tried. The only item I've ever had that I didn't enjoy was their fideo, but I'm biased because I like the way my grandma made it. The second location is just as good as the original, and closer to family. I regularly see the owners in there eating - they're making sure the quality is the same as the other location in San Marcos. There is one waitress at this location who is the most genuinely happy person I have ever seen, and brightens even the grouchiest person's day. read more
