Wonderful little place to have your breakfast! I enjoyed their southern-style sandwiches, and all the ingredients used are fresh and high quality. For starters, parking on the back parking lot due to limited parking in the street didn't make me happy. I don't mind walking, but this place is in such a weird spot, it's kind of hard to get to. The service I received when I was there was impeccable. For that reason, I would go back. Service really matters to. The coffee was just ok and nothing to write home about. My breakfast sandwich was pretty tasty however my soup tasted like a bowl of salt. The service is awful forgetful. My friend and I used to regularly go but in last few times the service so poor, forgot half our order, once reminded came back with wrong order, by that time we weren't wanting anything. Our warm sandwich that was served was served cold. Instead of taking off the items that were forgotten we were still charged. On top of that the attitude of both server and lady at register ( who promoted ) her side interest as a professional organizer! ) Was not at all helpful. read more

Visited here last weekend and it was really nice inside. Great natural light although very cold even on a 50ish degree day after hiking. I had a pretty good expectation of what kind of food and service I would receive here but unfortunately was kind of let down. Our waitress was not very attentive, yet at the end of the meal had the audacity to remind us what time they closed and was not available for assistance when trying to pay at the end. Regarding the food, the ciabatta club sandwich and chips are pretty darn good. But the avocado toast leaves something to be desired. I would more likely call it bread and arugula toast with dressing, rather than avocado toast. The ratios were extremely off and there was way too much balsamic. It was very messy. I would give this place another try but limited menu and not a lot of things seemed very exciting. Good coffee though! read more

Overpriced. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich for $18. Bad call on my part. It was hard to eat, not because of the taste, but because of how tough and dry the chicken was. Grilled chicken sandwich? More like left out in the sun for 5 days chicken sandwich. I'm not sure if I got any kind of nutrition from that meal because everything was just sucked out of it. This sandwich is the reason I got myself a yelp account -- it has inspired me to expose the truth to the world. Came here early on a Sunday morning. When we arrived it was not busy at all. Service was friendly but not exceedingly fast. The coffee was very good, and my bagel with salmon on it was awfully good. The place did start to fill up as we were enjoying our breakfast. A few more servers showed up, and it seemed like they were doing a good job taking care of people. read more

There's room for improvement on the customer service side, and the food was hit or miss. My aunt and I went here on a Sunday around 11:30. They were busy but there were plenty of empty tables - inside and out. There were several folks waiting to be seated in the entrance. A hostess asked where we would like to sit, and then she grabbed menus and just walked away? She didn't specify to any of the customers to follow her. She walked away and said nothing. So no one followed her and she came back and then asked us to follow her... very odd. Then we sat for a LONG time... she never came back to give us water. It was 90° outside (but still comfortable in the shade). So she came to take our order... but we said we'd like some water first. So she came back dropped off the water and then just ran away again... and didn't ask us what we wanted to eat? Bizarre. Poor customer service. Finally another server came who was very friendly and took our order. The food itself didn't take long and was good but just okay. I got the chickpea salad sandwich which was good but also $13. I found out that the menu only has outdated pricing, which is pretty annoying. My aunt got a breakfast sandwich and the eggs were over cooked. My iced latte was good and I appreciated that they had sugar free vanilla. It was $5.50 for about 12-16oz. Overall, I am not running back. The staff needs training, this was really not an appropriate way to treat paying customers. The food was okay but overpriced for basic sandwiches. 2'14'2021 I knew this place would be good, but I didn't know it would be good good! I was very hesitant about visiting so soon because they took the place of one of my favorite spots, but as soon as I visited... they climbed their way into my heart as well. Let's talk about the décor. Very inviting dining area. As soon as you walk in, you face the fresh bakery. So many options to choose from. On this lovely Valentine's Day, they had fresh roses for sale that were beautiful. You'll see them in my pictures. Each table had fresh tiny vases of flowers. I love that! I love the open concept dining and the light colors used throughout the dining area that looks great for all 4 seasons. The staff is outstanding! I can identify them by face, but I didn't catch their names. Every single person that I came in contact with was very very nice. I ordered soon arriving and received my food in less than 7 minutes. I ordered a plain croissant, a side of bacon and chamomile hot tea. Everything was perfect. My croissant was so nice, warm and flaky. My bacon was just right, and my tea was light and delicious! The gentleman that assisted me informed me they were working from a small menu and they will add more by the time they host their grand opening on March 15th. This experience was a great Valentine's Day beginning for me. Looking forward to making more positive memories here. read more

Had lunch on a rainy Saturday. This is in my general neighborhood and we wanted to check it out as a place where my in-laws could have lunch with us and we could get something vegan/vegetarian. The interior is pleasant and clean, although the banquettes would benefit from a darker/more easily cleanable fabric. Note that they close at 4. The service was earnest but probably lacked some experience. Points for effort. Drink orders got confused and had to be restated a couple of times. There should be some training provided so that the servers can better handle questions about the menu. The three of us got the (french) onion soup, chickpea salad sandwich, and avocado toast. The latter was available on a special biscuit menu (normally it comes on a baguette). It was good but perhaps a little odd on the biscuit as there was some sweetness to the biscuit. The soup was good, semi-deconstructed with 3 pieces of baguette with melted cheese on top of them. The chickpea salad was quite good, essentially a mock tuna salad. The espresso steamer was having issues but eventually I was able to get a hot cappucino with oat milk, which wasn't amazing but was certainly good. Options for vegans are few, but at least there are some: the acai bowls, oatmeal I suppose (not sure if cooked with milk, so check), and the avocado toast. They have a salad labeled as vegan on the menu we saw but it had cheese, so that's a error. With the relatively inexperienced service, I might be hesitant to go on a really busy day, but on the other hand we were there an hour before closing and maybe most servers were done for the day. I'm grading on a curve because I want people to enjoy this place and for it to be successful. It's probably more of a 3-star review. read more

On the first day of our Baltimore visit, we experienced a hotel breakfast that included weak coffee, frosted flakes, and little Jimmy Dean sandwiches in plastic pre-sealed bags for microwaving. It was your worst morning nightmare, and we reached out for help. Garden and grounds was recommended as a solution to this problem. On the second day of our Baltimore visit, we were delighted to have this horrible breakfast experience thoroughly reversed. What a breath of fresh air this place was! It started out with excellent coffee. They source their coffee locally, and serve it in artistic and functional cups. We were already 95% of the way to a great experience. The breakfast itself was quite solid. I had the egg and cheese bagel, others had bagel with cream cheese, and lox and cream cheese bagels. Though the chicken and waffle entrée was tempting, we stuck with the bagel theme. By the time we finished, our entire party was thoroughly happy and fully recovered from the hotel breakfast thanks to garden and grounds! read more

I noticed Garden & Grounds earlier this year while driving. I've been a semi-regular patron since. I love this little hidden gem & sharing it with friends when we're looking for a lunch spot. There are many delicious menu options from acai bowls to chicken and waffles, sandwiches, salads, and soups. I'm always up and down Falls Road and thought I'd try this place out because it looks so cute. Ordered breakfast and a coffee to go. The person behind the counter seemed annoyed that she had to stop her conversation and give me my food. When I got to the office my "Devil Wrap" was utterly tasteless and full of undercooked potatoes. For $14 I expect flavor and substance and it makes me really angry that I wasted good money on something so disappointing that I ended up throwing away. It feels like they are just phoning in it and don't really care about customers or quality. I rarely leave reviews but this was such a bad experience. I'll be honest the first time I went there I was not impressed. However this restaurant has continued to improve and the quality the food is now very good. I had an açai bowl with some added peanut butter and it was excellent. The gentleman that I was with had an everything bagel with egg, cheese and bacon. And the coffee was excellent. I'm going to give it five stars because the location is excellent in the ambience is fantastic. Like all businesses I'm thinking they're struggling a little bit with labor. The food here is absolutely delicious I had the breakfast quiche (sorry for the half eaten pic) and an iced white chocolate mocha. The quiche was packed with ingredients and flavor, honestly one of the best I've ever had. My friend got the cheese grits. GET THE GRITS!!! The staff was super sweet and the spot was light & airy. I came here with high hopes having read the reviews. My ordered a hazel nut latte which was very disappointing. I could not taste the hazelnut flavor and went back to the counter twice asking for more hazelnut flavor. The young man stated he added more but after the second request which tasted no different I left. If something this easy could not be addressed and fixed to my satisfaction there is no incentive to patronize this place. I paid $19 for French toast. It was 2 basic pieces of bread. Never again. Overpriced with skimpy portions.

Wait times were very long. The kitchen was out of the main ingredients for my first two choices, and I was only told this twenty minutes after ordering. When the food eventually arrived, it was extremely underwhelming. My 18 dollar burger was not even recognizable as beef. I actually thought it might have been a vegan burger. They were busy with take out orders but staff did look at me several times and good customer service would lend to a hello and we will be with you shortly. Anyway, I ordered grilled chicken and it was clearly pre-cooked (not even remotely warm) and falling apart from the bun. Not a nice presentation at all and I was not impressed. My husband enjoyed the taste of his quiche but it was burnt on the ends. However, his salad was fantastic. There is clearly room for improvements and it was pricey for what we got. But, it was crowded with people who appeared "regulars" so I wish them well since we need options in that area. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Do yourself a favor and go to either Stone Mill Bakery or the Corner Pantry which are both just a few minutes down the road. You'll enjoy much better food and have a better experience overall as both places have exceptional customer service. I will not be coming back to this disgrace of a restaurant. The strawberry banana smoothie I ordered was the worst smoothie I've ever had in my life (it tasted like milky dish water). I have tried to give this place time to even out the bumps in the road, but I have been here twice (today was the day to give it a second chance), and again I was disappointed. The first time I was there with Chef Nancy Longo (chef/owner Pierpoint Restaurant, Food Network contestant) and another dear friend who has a long-standing service industry history with Phillips Food. The second time was today, where I had brunch with my sister. For the record, the food is good. Kudos to the chef and the kitchen. Rockie did the best she could today. Here were the grievances that we had the 1st time (approximately 1 mo ago): 1) No Coke syrup in the fountain drinks. Our server informed the owner (blonde) who appeared uninterested in the lack of syrup "there should be some in there", admonishing the server in front of customers. 2) Poor pace of service. I get the service industry has been suffering with the lack of workers, but active engagement of the owner to delegate and become the "air traffic controller" to a seemingly unexperienced and overwhelmed wait staff. 3) Inattentiveness to detail: Grounds were in my iced coffee. Items ordered were placed on the wrong plate. A lot of back and forth since the server would forget requests i.e., ketchup, mayo, sweetener for ice tea (after it was ascertained that there was no Coke syrup) 4) Truth in "advertising": Blackened salmon means pan seared. Although the salmon was delicious, it was cooked on a grill with seasoning. It was not pan-seared. Here are the grievances from today: 1) We were placed at our table and did not see Rockie until 15 min later. Other tables were seated and attended to right away. Do away with sections. With a short staff, i suggest that everyone take ownership of all of the tables and split the tips. That is the service industry reality these days. 2) Poor incoming guest navigation: No clear direction about outdoor seating. Incoming guests were sitting at tables that had been cleared but not sanitized. Again, servers are not made aware of new guests, and the guest sat around wondering when someone was going to attend to them. Suggest that all need to check in at front desk for all tables. 3) Lack of consistent sanitation of tables: Observed 3 tables bussed, but not sanitized. All were set with placemats and silverware, The busser (blond medium build ponytail bun) seemed uninterested and slow in recognizing the overall "lay of the land" to move things along. Finally the kitchen staff came out with bus bins and bussed tables, and served items. I did not observe sanitation after bussing. 4) Pace of service: Abysmal. Rockie was running around so much, I thought she was going to drop something. A guest and the reported daughter of the owner stepped in to seat guests after their meal. I understand the the service industry is suffering. I came back to give this establishment another chance. The owner appeared flustered, as if she had no experience in the food industry and/or service industry. Customer service recovery skills as an owner is essential, and taking control of short-staffed employees would help by modeling good leadership. It did not appear that there was anyone in control with both visits. My biggest suggestions: Pay attention to properly sanitizing tables: IT IS NEVER TOO BUSY TO DO SO, especially with the high number of "elderly" that frequent the convenient location and the current COVID situation. Do away with sections: everyone split the tips. Post a sign stating that everyone must check in for a table (both in and out), especially the weekends. Only one person should be taking care of this for better flow. Readily and consistently delegate, because clearly the wait-staff are inexperienced and do not possess criticial thinking skills to manage a full house. P.S. Leave the front doors open so your servers can get in and out without fear of dropping plates when outside service is ongoing and bustling. read more

Update: THE.SERVICE.IS.HORRIBLE. This is the second time I've been here in 9 months and the service now is worse than then (and it wasn't great then!). The reason I came back was because the food is good. There is also a nice atmosphere in the place, which is casual and airy. It is also located in a very convenient spot off of Falls Road. On this occasion, we were seated in a corner, which was fine. The person who seated us specifically said "so you won't be crowded in". It then took at least 10 minutes for someone to come over and ask us about our order. 2 cups of coffee and a croissant took another 10 minutes to come over to us. No spoon was offered, no sweeteners were offered, and no extra plate was offered even though we said we would be sharing the croissant. When we tried to get the waitress' attention, we felt like we were being deliberately ignored. I finally got up and went to get the sweeteners myself and used a knife to stir the coffee. At that point they placed someone right next to us, and actually moved the table a little closer to us. The people who were sitting at that table noticed that their table was wobbly, but that somebody put a folded napkin underneath the leg to balance it out. It wasn't working and they were concerned about drinking coffee at a wobbly table. When we tried to pay, again we could not get the waitress' attention. After five minutes of trying to flag her down she told us we could pay at the counter. The coffees were good and the croissant was delicious. But the experience was terrible. Noticed this place had opened so stopped in to check it out. The barista was very friendly and my latte was great! Will definitely be back to try their food. The layout is much more conducive to eating in compared to when Atwater's was in that spot, so that's a plus. read more
