Stopped by Garden District Kitchen & Bar for dinner while delayed at MKE. I ordered a Macallan 12 year (Scotch) for my drink and then the chopped chicken salad (minus bacon) for my dinner. First of all--happy that they have some solid whiskey options and always a fan of Macallan 12. It ran me $25 but of course, it's the airport. Everything is completely overpriced. The salad was actually delish. I really enjoyed it! It looks like the sort of spot where you would wait to be seated and I think there's even a hostess stand. That said--it's seat yourself. Just grab a table and they'll bring you menus and take your order. The prices, as I mentioned, are outrageous. I think both my husband and I got salads and a drink and it was well over $100 for basic bar food. read more

It would be less of a hassle and less of a disaster to exit the concourse, hail a taxi, get food from outside of the airport, and go through TSA all over again, than to eat at Garden District. When you get there, you have to sit yourself, which is fine except there were no signs to do so. Everyonewho walked in just stood around with no waitresses in sight. After 10 minutes of waiting, we finally decided to sit ourselves at a dirty table. That was when the waitress came over and wiped it clean... barely. You are expected to scan a barcode and put in your own order. You can tell people were having a hard time with the system because all thebtables around us were muttering about the wait time and wrong orders. I was half expecting to have to pick up the food myself from the service window since we've served ourself so far. The food was cold and unappetizing. My wife got the special burger and the patty was beyond dry with a greyish tint too it. The cheese curds topping was cold and hard. The fries too were cold and inedible. I had a bowl of soup and it came out luke warm. I'm not really sure how you can mess that up. At the end of it, you pay on the app. There was minimal interaction with the wait staff which left me wondering if I was still required to tip. Of course I did. I'm not a monster. I also gave myself a HUGE tip since I did an amazing job at serving myself for the most part. This made me feel better. I have never in my life been to a restaurant that was soooo determined to be horrible. If this restaurant was NOT in the airport where options are limited, I don't think it would've lasted a week. Incredibly overpriced and underwhelming. Bloody Mary was almost $20 for a flavorless tomato juice with an olive garnish. We sent the brat back to be remade because it was shriveled up and dry. Never was greeted. No signs that said wait to be seated or seat yourself. Not sure if the lady wanted us there. We sat down and ordered on the app after waiting some time. Our waitress had no problem greeting other preferred guests that weren't of color. Never checked on us had to flag her down to ask for an extra condiment. Burgers were okay. I ordered the fish fry, a Friday tradition in Wisconsin, on a Wednesday and I was excited about it. The fish fry was ok...it tasted better than it looked; I definitely missed the marble rye bread as it came with regular bread. On the other hand, my server Jesus was great. He was friendly and very helpful. Tip: The service on the tables indicates to place an order directly from the QR code but I was assisted by Jesus and got the usual service at the restaurant. read more

First you have to create an account after a QR code scan to order anything and then the menu is pretty sparse. I get it "Shine B" it's an airport bar...but it's among the worst of even airport bar/restaurants ive seen and I've seen quite a few. I went with chicken tenders reluctantly without a better option, thinking they'd at least be a familiar easy dish. They were awful. Couldn't finish and I'm not fussy on food. I'll try just about anything. But these were clearly not fresh and mostly over salted breading (little to no chicken). Fries were mid. I usually clean my plate but sent this one back. Absolutely TERRIBLE. Waiting, acknowledgment (lack of), waiting again, seated with no further acknowledgment from any of the staff, and my 5-year-old waiting. We didn't even get to order drinks, and waited an additional 30 minutes, and would've missed our flight. I'm sure you could dine and dash and no one would notice here. After waiting 10 minutes to order a drink, it took another 15 minutes to order food. When I finally got the bartenders attention to order food he rolled his eyes at me. I ordered a loaded burger and when I received it, it had 2 cheese curds and hardly any sauce. Hardly a LOADED burger. Butter burger & fries. I should have read the reviews before sitting down. I was so excited to try a butter burger here. The equivalent of one onion ring grilled on my sandwich. I would pay more if I there was some lettuce, maybe a bigger piece of cheese.... It's fine. I get it: Airport bar. Been to dozens of them. They are never cheap. But $48 for two Bulleit bourbons? Are you kidding me? You can almost get two bottles of Bulleit for that. Covid, yes, it has made things difficult but it's not excuse for the quality of food and service inflicted upon those clueless enough to step into the Garden District. Greated with: "sit wherever you want but don't expect it to be quick." Hmmm, what other choice do I have for warm food. None, apparently. So I continue... When the server finally gets to me she chucks a wrinkled and stained paper menu at my table. She's nice enough but looks utterly defeated. Perhaps the Garden District uses prison labor. The blue demin shirts seems to suggest so. She returns for my order. Cheese curds and a burger. They can't screw that up can they? Oh, they can. And she knows it. She sighs and heads for the ordering kiosk. She knows how disappointed I will be. And how that could impact her tip (it won't by the way.) The kitchen staff is belligerent. Yelling at each other and the servers. Apparently I have wronged their family in some way. And my burger shows it. Cold. A quarter of the patty missing. Probably on the floor (I am actually surprised they didn't slap it back on, cause screw me right?) Cheese? It's there. Cold and thinner than the wrapper it came from. Bacon as limp and soggy as my hopes of a passable meal at MKE. The server looks at me, pleading with her eyes not to send it back. I don't. We are in this together now lady. I feel for her. I choke down half of the burger and some of the rocks, I mean curds, and signal for the check. She brings me a QR code. "You gotta pay on this." Sure, unsatisfying as the rest of the experience. I doesn't work. Eventually I pay. I'm getting out of this jail on good behavior. My server has been dealt a life sentence. Gotta leave you behind, friend. Everyone for themselves in MKE! Bottom line, we know we are going to get screwed eating at the airport. Just make us feel good about it instead of rubbing our faced in the doo-doo that is your bacon cheeseburger.... read more

The rudeness of the employees is horrible. Having to ask an employee to clear a dirty table(s) is unnecessary. The cleanliness is deplorable , from food all over the floor to leaving receipts & literal trash on the floor . never have i ever had such rude service , but the old bald headed bartender definitely took the icing on the cake , from her raising her voice in a i'll tone because i asked a simple question , rolling her eyes . wish i could give less than 1 star . very disappointed. the cheese was old hard and greasy , the coleslaw was the consistency of milk the sauerkraut was the consistency of tree bark . i asked for seasoned fries everything was cold and gross , order wasn't correct read more

Upon entering this establishment today, seeking something to eat and a drink, I attempted to use the app to order, which did not work. When I moved over to the bar to ask for assistance, the bartender was extremely rude not helping me only repeating the same unhelpful comment. She let me know that if I was going to get frustrated and upset, she was going to get upset right back at me. I was actually being patient and looking for assistance. I could not believe her response. The customer service was preposterous. She was unbelievably obnoxious and I have to assume it had something to do with the way that we looked and her perception of us for some reason. It was a very disappointing experience as we have gone to this restaurant many times when waiting for our flight at the airport. We will not be coming here again. Great airport bar. We had a wonderful bartender who was very attentive and engaging. He recommended the chicken so my husband got the tenders and I got the sandwich. Their menu is limited because of the pandemic and it's nothing special but the food is good. The atmosphere was obviously crowded but not overly noisy. They had a decent beer list with local and seasonal tap selections. If you are hungry or thirsty in Concourse D, I recommend giving them a try! read more

Went to sit at a lower section of the bar and waitress said curtly, "that is for disabled people, it says it right there." 1: there was no posting indicating this was seating for disabled people. 2: this rude person somehow can tell whether someone is disabled or not, just by looking at them. The only other lower seating areas were roped off/closed. As a disabled person, I cannot sit at a hightop. This place was a joke from the start. Sign says seat yourself but when we tried to share a big table with another diner who welcomed us to join, the server said we can't share due to covid. Really? No masks required, no vacc cards and a friendly person to sit with, but no. All the people at the bar can sit in a row without dividers too! Also they have brand new menus with cocktails listed but they don't have the ingredients for any of them except the bloody mary. Couldn't even get a mule. The food was average and the beer was okay. My server Mari Jo was really nice. I returned later to ask for some ice to put in my ziplock to keep some breast milk cold and the old, white lady with short gray hair I had was so rude and mean. I wish I just walked further down to Starbucks, but the place was close to my gate and because I had a good experience with my server earlier, I mistakenly thought I'd be okay to ask. She was like "No! We don't give out plastic cups because it took us forever to get them." I then asked if she could just put the ice in a glass and I could pour it in, and again she was like "No!" I tried to explain to her it was to put my breast milk on ice. She started muttering something then walked to the back. Lack of acknowledgmen, no sign posted stating to seat self. When I asked the waitress rudely answered " yes seat yourself , but there's no where to sit". I am a single person and spaces seemed to be open at the bar just not cleaned. Once I sat it took 10 minutes and me asking for a menu to be acknowledge. Bar staff didn't even look at me and I was asked " what do you want?" There is no possible excuse for the rudeness of their staff members.
