Normally I avoid a gimmicky restaurant because the hype is better than the food. This is not the case here. They make your dining experiences funny and produce a quality product My go-to sub is the White Widow blunt. Yes the sizing and food names all pay homage to ganga. The drink station is plaquered with cotton mouth. An 8 inch sub will run you almost $12 bucks but I think they have some of the best subs I've ever had. There is a full bar here but I'm amazed they don't sell enhanced drinks considering the chain name. Food is ordered at a walk up so no table service. It's definitely worth a stop just to see the funny signs etc. read more

Overall, this place is a quick stop if you want to get a sub. Their menu is decently extensive, but their prices to me are overpriced for what you get. The service I would say is also fairly intermittent, I have been in there where the customer service has been fairly indifferent to the fact that I was in the location. Location. I stopped here after my first spot fell through and it's been a bookmark for a while now. The place is modern/funky with colorful walls, booths, bar and seating in back with huge windows. The staff was friendly when I ordered my 8 inch Italian for $10.85. I ordered the la canna which is smoked ham, Genoa salami, prosciutto, black olive, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, house shake and house dressing. I was surprised that it was wrapped in tin foil since most sub shops use paper. The sub on garlic herb bread looked good until I split it in half and I saw very little razor thin sliced meats with lots of toppings. As far as sub chains go this one is super skimpy on the meats and the least meaty sub I have ever had. I've only been to this location once but honestly after a late night out it hits the spot! You order at the counter and the staff is nice. The vibes are very chill and they have a bar if you plan to eat there. The sandwich itself was on super soft/fresh tasting garlic bread (you get bread options). I got the Italian sandwich and I was great! I do wish the peppers on it were spicy cause I ended up adding way more of my spicy peppers at home. The sandwiches are huge and honestly the smaller size would have sufficed. My husband got the bacon, chicken, ranch and loved it! They also have really good rice krispe treats that seem to be made fresh cause they have different types of cereal in them and are delicious! Highly recommend trying one of those if you stop in. It was fun to examine all the mural details while waiting for our food. Even the table numbers were on theme! It was nice that the bar area and windows look over Zillman Park and all the happenings on KK. I had the "Panama Red" sub with chicken marinara. And my boyfriend and I shared the Garlic Cheese Sticks. Big fan of the sticks. I can see these being a popular item in the late night hours! My sub was good, but was just meat, cheese and sauce. To go, had the AK-47 their roast beef sub with mushrooms, onion and cheese on white bread. It also came with a side of au jus. I felt that sub traveled well. The space is bright and has fun pot themes. Staff were friendly. Lots of beverage options from sodas, kool aids, beer and cocktails. Prices were reasonable. I was hesitant at first because I didn't think this place was my jam, but finally got around to trying Cheba Hut. I was blown away! I like how their subs come in all kinds of sizes, like the tiny 4 inch one, so you can sample more than one. I had the White Widow and the boyfriend had the Thai Stick. Both came deliciously toasted and full of lots of good flavors. This is a fun, funky place with lots of signs, stickers, and music. We sat at the bar and exchanged stickers with the bartender. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I will be sure to hit them up again for take out to munch on while at work. read more

I've been watching this Cheba Hut get ready for their first day for months and I was so excited to pop in for their opening day! I had never been to a Cheba Hut, but Heather, the owner, was incredible and went though the menu with me and introduced herself. There were a few booths to sit at, a counter, a high top, and a great bar area. I ordered at the counter and got my food within a few minutes. I got the Kali Mist, which is their spicy club and it was SO GOOD. It was nice to have a warm sandwich on a chilly day and was the perfect option for lunch. Been to Chebba huts all over the US, always warrants a stop when we see one in their city. Next time maybe not. The staff was very unhelpful. Decided to charge me $3 a drink to find out they are out of soda. We tried to find a place to sit, one of the 4 booths was a homeless lady hanging out not purchasing anything then the rude manager is taking another both up as I stand there with my 2 children wanting to sit down. Finally I ask & it's met with a rude glare & no response. If I was the franchisee of this location I'd be ashamed I'm flushing money down the toilet. Let alone food was not made properly. GARBAGE! Ordered the 'White Widow' that was mediocre at best. Only decent flavor about it was the sauce and bread. Came 3/4 packed with lettuce and shrooms, and topped with a pitiful amount of frozen faux chicken and soggy old veggies. I'm sure it didn't help quality, that apparently whoever was behind the counter that day, allowed some random street walker to drop in with her toddler for him to babysit as he was working, while she finished the order instead, so he could go play....like, WTF? Are y'all ok? First of all, that's unnecessary and disgraceful. Transferring food from employee to a non-employee to deliver it across the counter to your customers, let alone without so much as a warning to us, is unacceptable. Further more she did it WITHOUT gloving her nasty fake finegrnails, without a hairnet, and without washing her dirty hands that she handed her screaming toddler off with, to the worker who was supposed to be sanitarily preparing food. Management is a pity at this location. I honestly wonder what a WI Department of Health inspector would think, in the same situation, given the carelessness and audacity. Do better and employ responsible, mature staff. It's not that hard to be accountable as a business owner, to your paying customers. read more

Not being in the "scene," my friends and I were a little puzzled about the whole toasted thing. We're not hip on the lingo, man. But eventually we figured it out. This place has potential. I wouldn't recommend if you're in a hurry for a quick bite...I ordered online to try & expedite my order because the line was almost to the door. My plan failed as it took longer than the confirmation email indicated I would receive the sub at the pick up counter. After 15 minutes after the time my email said it would be ready, I approached the cashier to ask if she could bring it to my table instead since I was with friends who were also getting food. She didn't answer my question but gave a look and checked out my order and proceeded to start to make my sub herself? It's hard to say but I went back and forth from the table to the pick-up counter half a dozen times before receiving my late order. Anywho! Maybe it's a weekend thing, I really don't know. Yet, the subs are wrapped poorly. * Skip down for the long story short, or read the following for a more in-depth reason behind my ONE STAR REVIEW! * This review is in regards to the service I was dealt with at 9:15p.m (8/2/23) from the manager. One would think, because of this location being under a year old, they would treat their customers right and want their customers to return, right!? Nope. Not for one second is that a thought for this establishment. I placed an order online at 8:51p.m. and it stated it would be ready at 9:15p.m.. When I walked in at 9:13p.m., the two workers in the front of the restaurant stated it would be another minute or two and so I went to the restroom. At exactly 9:16p.m. I walked out of the restroom and walked back to the front and was directed to the "Online pick up" station. The manager that met me, asked what name I was picking up for and then stated, "Oh, your friend just picked it up. Yeah, another man just took your order." I said that I am by myself and I do have the receipt and bank statement saying I paid! She then said, it was already picked up and then walked back behind the window/wall of the kitchen (the restaurant is not very big). I could clearly hear the manager throwing out profanity statements and griping about having to remake my (already paid for) order again. After about seven minutes and nothing said from the manager, nor other team members, I asked the manager how long it would be and if they were making it again. She said "Yeah, we have to. But it's a big order, so it's going to take us awhile." However, two twelve inch subs plus three already made rice crispy treat's is a big order!?! Right.... After waiting sixteen minutes and seeing two other customer orders that had been placed after mine and had been picked up before mine was up, I finally received my order. As I got to the car, I briefly checked the bag and saw the three rice crispy treat's and two subs. After passing two lights, the little voice in my head said, "Check the rice crispy treat's." Sure enough they were wrong too! Very, very, frustrating!! I turned around and spoke my mind to the same manager and asked how could I have received the wrong order and now received the wrong treat's after their own original mistake. She said they were busy and how they're short staffed. Yet, two people at the bar, a bar tender, one customer sitting and two other orders placed (while I was waiting) meant that they were extremely busy!? They had over (including bar tender) six employees (two of which, were standing up front, taking care of the trash) on a Wednesday night. Busy... Right. Finally, the manager apologized (not once had she apologized before going back in) and said they were all out of one of the rice crispy flavors I had asked for. Yet, while I was sitting directly eight feet from her station, she didn't think to tell me and ask what other flavor I wanted before giving me the remade order!? She as cold as can be, gave me a mediocre apology and traded me the rice crispy I didn't want for a third of the same flavor as the other two. Overall, this whole ordeal from placing the online order to finally leaving this godforsaken establishment (the second time), took 48 minutes to receive two twelve inch subs and three rice crispy treat's. * I've worked in hospitality and restaurant's for close to ten years now and have opened two restaurant's. I've dealt with similar events like mine with my experiences. With this kind of event, being a manager or a dish washer, I would have done anything and everything to have given that customer the best service possible after my/my restaurant's mistake, let alone comped their meal - in addition to have given them three extra rice crispy treat's and two cookies. It's pitiful how at 2202 S Kinnickinnic's Cheba Hut lacks any and all customer service skills. * Long story short, as of the night (9:15p.m.) manager on 8/2/23, this Cheba Hut on 2202 S Kinnickinnic Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53207 is a business to think twice in spending one's time and money at! - Unorganized with online orders/pick up orders - Poor customer service - Customer service lacks greatly with the 9:15p.m./August 2nd, 23 manager! Piss poor and rude customer service are understatements - Subpar subs and rice crispy treat's * Unfortunately, even though this location is closer to me, I will not be returning to this Cheba Hut.
