We had a great lunch at Hen's deli! I ordered the turkey sub sandwich. I loved how you can customize the toppings easily. The sandwich was huge and super delicious! Hen's Deli was delicious!!! It's a small hole in the wall with fresh bagels served Tuesday - Saturday. They only have about 2 tables, so it's definitely a grab and go type of place. The service was quick and the bagels were still warm. I got the bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage. The sausage was packed with flavor and the patty was so thin - it was perfect. My friend got the pickle bagel, which was nice and not too over powering. Can't wait to go back and try one of their subs. read more

I went outside of my comfort zone when I picked the curry bagel (check it off the list, not for me, haha... but that was my choice, my risk). I've had other breakfast bagel sandwiches there before and very much so enjoyed them. I just wish they had a bigger dining space - if you go during the lunch hour/when they're busy (outside of the warm weather months), seating is very limited. They make the most of their space though. I really like the vibe of this place. Its a 1 room shop with bagel sandwiches and other sandwiches for lunch. They have some outdoor seating, so this restaurant in the summer is really nice. Normally I'm at work during the week by the time Hen's Deli opens at 8am, so I had't had the chance to try them yet. On this day, though, I was working the later shift, which gave me enough time to stop at Hen's Deli before work. I ordered the breakfast sandwich (two eggs, American cheese, and choice of bacon or sausage) on a garlic bagel with bacon for the meat. I'm not super adventurous when it comes to bagels, so I was torn between pretty basic ones like plain, salted, and garlic. The person working the register said she would go with garlic, so I took her advice. The bagel was good by itself and fresh in quality with plenty of garlic flavor, but maybe a little too much for the breakfast sandwich. I thought the garlic overpowered the bacon, egg, and cheese and I had to brush a portion of the garlic off to be able to taste the rest of it. If I come back, I'd go with salted or plain instead. read more

One year later, and after several more visits, I'm upgrading my rating. My sandwiches have been consistently delicious, and the service has been consistently excellent! On my two most recent visits: (yesterday), I ordered their Torta of the Day, which was made with spare rib meat seasoned with Brazilian spices, avocado, pinto beans, lettuce, tomato, onion, salsa verde, and mayo, and (today) their meatball sub, which I'm told is typically offered on Thursdays and sometimes Fridays if there are meatballs leftover. Luckily I was able to get the Meatball Sub today! I had mine topped (actually was on the roll under the meatballs, which worked great!) and banana peppers because I'm not a hot giardiniera guy. The Brazilian Spare Rib meat had great flavor and tender texture. All of the toppings worked well together, but I think the brilliant addition of salsa verde really brought it all home. LOVED it! My photos didn't do it justice. The meatballs in my sub today were firm the way I like them, so either all beef, or possibly a little pork mixed in. I find that more pork in the mixture results in softer (mushier) texture, which I don't care for, so these made me happy. The marinara sauce was a nice balance of sweet and spicy, but really tasty, and the banana peppers added a little crunch and sweetness, so I'll have to remember that for next time. This place is great and has become a new favorite of mine. Open for breakfast and lunch, 8am to 3pm (opens 9am on Saturdays) and closed Sunday and Monday. Now it's your turn. read more

I cannot say enough about Hen's Deli. I love that they have tortas, and bagels (two of my favorite things). I love that it's a small hole-in-the-wall local Milwaukee business. Stopped by for a mid week lunch, was surprised to find this hole in the wall packed to the gills. Our food came out surprisingly quickly given how busy they were and everything was excellent. I had a rosemary salt bagel which was to die for, and my fiancé had the torta, which we thought at first was a bit pricey, but came out enormous so we were pleased. The jalepenos and tomatoes were notably fresh and delicious. We'll be back sometime soon to try more, but for now came away very impressed! read more

Now with more seating! I really like this place. The people are really nice and they do a small menu well with some special touches. Like radishes and mint in the sprout salad on the Hadassah. That's a smoked salmon spread bagel that comes either as a sandwich or open faced for a couple bucks more. You get a little bit more food if you order open faced, but I was thinking more about being able to take a bite without losing a tomato slice. There were marinated cucumbers too which also like to fly off sandwiches. They are quite delicious. In addition to the table they now have a couple more seats by the wall and outdoor tables. It's a small menu which is good with me because that means you can focus on good food vs. trying to make everything. I tried it three times before I wrote a review. The service issues that people talked about early on must have been resolved because the owner gave incredible service. I asked for butter on my bagel and they didn't offer it but she gave me some of her own personal Kerry gold butter. I tried the torta and then two bagels. The torta was good but wasn't anything special but still worth a try. They change out to a different torta every day. I tried the sesame bagel and then the curry one. The curry bagel is not very "curry" and I don't recommend getting it plain with butter. I feel that this bagel deserves some toppings to really enjoy the flavor. Yes, it's close to work and I will be back. Service was quick but my only issue is that a place that prides the business on bagels doesn't open until 9am. It seemed like a warm family run establishment that's also delicious. We popped in here for the first time about a week ago. They were super nice and the bagels were very yummy. I ordered the Breakfast Torta which was way bigger than I thought it was going to be but really yummy. My husband got a bagel breakfast sandwich which was equally delicious. There was a line to the door when we first got there and only a couple tables inside so we took it to go. Wow! They've been open for barely a week, but you wouldn't know it based on the steady flow of clientele. I was there at around 12:30, and while I waited for my bagel another four people popped in. Just wanting to check out the place I ordered a plain bagel with vegan cream cheese and I also got a bag of mini conchas to go. All this for about $10. While I still have to dig into the conchas, that vegan cream cheese is one of the tastiest ever! It's a tiny place with only one table for two, so great for to-go orders. I started going here when they first opened, and tried the subs. I liked them.. customized them a little to my taste(the house oil pairs well with them), then... I tried the Pork Pastrami Sandwich. OMG. This instantly turned into a craving. It is delicious. I highly recommend you try it. The space used to be the very popular Soup Brothers(RIP best red pepper bisque ever), but I am very happy that Hens Deli is now here. I remember walking by one day, not too long after the former place closed in the space and seeing the two owners checking the place out; I'm happy for them getting the space, and happy they have some of the best sandwiches in the area. We went to Hen's Deli for lunch a few weeks ago and were very excited to try it since it is the new sandwich shop in Walker's Point and replaced two of my favorite places Boo Boo's and Soup Bros. I think that if you had been to either of those restaurants, you might be a bit underwhelmed with Hen's just because those were insanely good, very filling and about the same price. If you had never been to those establishments, you might not have a point of comparison and therefore, really enjoy this! At Hen's, I ordered the bistec torta and my husband ordered the classic club with Italian dressing. I thought the torta was quite good! There was tons of avocado and crema and the bistec was not super fatty. However, there are just so many places that sell delicious, filling tortas in the area that I would not say this is the #1 place to go for them. My husband also thought that the club was good, but again, nothing outstanding. There was probably less meat on it compared to what they serve at other delis. If you do want to try this place (which I think people should because it is new and everyone has different tastes!), be sure to go not right at 12pm. It gets BUSY!! When we left around 12:30, there was probably a line of 20+ people crammed inside waiting to order/get there food. The service was as quick as it could be and the employees were very kind/patient. If I am in the area, I might stop back but I won't be rushing there again soon. read more

I have never left a review before but thought it was necessary since my second visit went about the same as my first. I was looking forward to a close sandwich shop as others have said since BooBoo's closing. I had come one time before and it was a little busy so I just let the bad service roll off my back. I came another morning and they were incredibly rude. For a place that centers their posters/ad space/book collections around fostering a more united community this gave me the ick. You don't need to fake kindness or fake a customer service voice/look but to blatantly switch based off of who is ordering is weird and cringey. I have never received such a blatant energy shift as when I walked up to order a sandwich - it is difficult to explain other than a rude tone shift between me and another customer (someone they may have known) - it seemed strange to me that you could have two people in the entire room and decide to barely acknowledge one, make them feel awkward for what they ordered and then continue to be rude. Condescending and rude are not ways to keep people coming in. Again for a place that has so much centered around community and trying to build others up - the person who takes the orders could really use some reflection. This place is truly a gem and really creative with their crafted sandwiches but OMG the homemade bagels are incredible. The problem with most bagels is no one wants the bottom of the bagel... not here. Both sides are "tops". The sesame is my favorite but I'll be trying them all!! The lox spread is to die for... looking forward to trying the rest of the menu but the home made pork pastrami looks ll really interesting. Also a awesome people and a great vibe!!
