The reason I do not recommended this company is because in my experience this company does "shady" business in partnership with crooked Douglas Foundation repair(https://www.facebook.com/DouglasFoundationSolutions) Douglas Foundation repair add me to their contract they do plumbing test (part of the products list) but doesn't clearly disclose or explain that there is a condition to the plumbing test and the company they work with (Gardenhouse) will charge you $2000+ for it. The reason I'm holding garden house plumbing company accountable is because they should, prior to the foundation work, check to see if they have what is needed for the hydrostatic plumbing test and quote how much it will cost if there is will a cost. With that making the home owner aware of how much to expect to pay and giving the opportunity to choose to continue with the foundation work or choose another contractor. When there is a condition to the test and that this condition voids the warranty the lack of transparency is a total disregard and disrespect with the consumer. Marco Munoz did a great job explaining but only provided this explanation of the hydrostatic plumbing test per my request after the foundation work was done and I found out I'd get no warranty for it. This should have been provided along with the contract since Douglas Foundation assigns then to do the testing. If they are a reputable company and respect their customers I hope they will stop doing business in partnership with crooked, dishonest Douglas Foundation repair. read more

Gardenhouse was hired through our foundation repair company to perform a hydrostatic test. There was some initial trouble locating our sewer clean out, and the Gardenhouse crew did a great job of explaining all of the potential implications very clearly. They were very prompt, completed the test successfully, *and* they did an additional line check and found a separated pipe where my sewer egress meets the city's system. They then contacted the city on my behalf to get that scheduled, since this particular separation was city responsibility and thankfully not mine. use at your own risk. hired this company to diagnose where the leak was after a foundation lift. they were at my house for a total of 6 hours. weren't able to make a determination for half the house and claimed there were no leaks on the side of the house that had a tunnel under it for foundation work so i had it backfilled. turned out there were two leaks within a couple of feet of the tunnel so their incorrect information is costing me thousands of extra dollars . Marcus is a super slick salesman and sounds great but don't believe him. he said they would refund what they charged me and it's been weeks and i haven't been refunded a dime. read more

Worst company ever !! Ok, before you think I am whining ( apparently yelpers assume things), lemme tell you what happened. I called Marcus last Friday to fix a leak in my home, and he said he would do it Saturday at time and a half. So I gave him my number and asked him to call me on Saturday when he was ready. He calls me, says he will "show up sometime", never calls back. Then I called him Monday and left him a VM, no response. I called him today (Tues) and the guy picks up the phone and talks like a drunk, and is hamming on me saying umm yeah whatever. Who the hell does he think he is? THESE GUYS ARE FLAKES. They missed a prearranged appointment -- one that THEY set the time for -- and it affected about 200 people, some more than others. And days later they have yet to explain or call me back. At my condo, all the units are on one shutoff, so I had to notify the entire complex to get authorization for this job. Everything was set, and they had all weekend to cancel if they had a conflict. When the time came, not a peep. The worst was that they didn't respond to my calls and messages. (Yes, I'm a professional; I didn't panic or yell, just 3-4 contact attempts.) If they had simply told me, I could've attempted to find another plumber for the 3-hour authorized water shutoff period. So I didn't get hot water, and everybody in the complex had to be notified AGAIN for another plumber to come out and do the job. And the job itself? It took the other guys (JEG Plumbing) less than 2 hours. Disappointing, because I've had Gardenhouse do a different job for me and they did fine on it. read more

I called Marcos on a Thursday morning about replacing my tank water heater, and he was able to come check it out/give me a quote that afternoon. He talked me the through the pros and cons of a tankless (I wanted one). After he explained all of the factors in depth: the modifications we'd need to in order to put in tankless, lifetime cost of each, gallons per/minute, labor, etc. I ended up going with a regular tank, and he installed it the next day. He sent texts when he started and stopped working (I wasn't at home) to confirm the hours of labor. Just a really great experience overall. I called Gardenhouse after talking to another plumbing company about my leaking(gushing?) water heater. I initially thought of switching to a tankless heater, but was convinced otherwise(the other company was convinced I needed one). The installers came out, replaced everything and finished quickly-and then charged well below the estimate because of it. They did promise to pick my up my old tank and dispose of it later, but it was still in my lawn the next morning and some random scavenger asked me if he could take it away. Search Yelp for plumbers near Austin, sort by highest rated. Garden House is high on the list for a reason. I have used Garden House about 5 times at this point. Marcus has always responded quickly, and done the job correctly, for a fair price. Marcus has: fixed 2 different leaking toilets, replaced my main outside pipe from meter to house, fixed a leaking tub pipe behind a wall, replaced all shower hardware on that tub, and fixed a leaking pipe near my water heater. Also, I really like the way Marcus quotes a job. It can be difficult to quote a plumbing job, because a lot of times you don't really know what it will take to fix the problem until you start digging. You can see where this is a problem for both the customer and the plumber. Marcus chooses to be very honest about this. He tells you all the options. IE: If the problem is X, the cost will be low. But if the problem is Y, the cost will be more. He will always tell you the worst-case scenario, even if it's not something you really want to hear. read more

Talk about a great experience! This was my best dealing with any Austin plumbing company to date! Ok, to be fair, part of the reason this was such a good experience was the sheer luck of being in the the right place at the right time. I called Marcos who happened to be in the neighborhood at that time; he was literally right around the corner when I called. He actually arrived at my house within a half hour of my call. I realize this was an exceptional circumstance, but I still think it speaks to the helpfulness of the company. Since the job I needed done was pretty simple, Marcos was able to give me a ballpark idea (not an official estimate, mind you) over the phone which was about 20% less than the other callback I received. This is a big plus for me. I really don't want to waste the company's time or mine when looking for services. Some companies require that they show up on site to give an estimate and then some even charge for the trip over whether I use them or not. Marcos completed the work within about 30 minutes and was on his way. He was careful to clean up after his work and he didn't leave anything behind except a business card and a satisfied guy with a sink that was now working again. I would always rather give work to local homegrown businesses who provide good work and fair prices. Gardenhouse Plumbing fits that bill to a tee. read more

I've had multiple jobs/dealings with these guys and have nothing but good stuff to say. 1. We were renting a house and our landlord called them when our hot water went out. Brr!! They started with the cheap, simple fix first. Mike showed me how to clean under the hot water heater so the airflow would allow the pilot to stay on. Unfortunately, an element in the hot water heater had burnt out, so they came back and replaced it--easy peasy. I liked Marcus and Mike so much that I had them come inspect a house that I was about to buy, when I moved from the rental. 2. Marcus came through my house under contract and gave me an extended estimate of the so called minor repairs needed that our inspector noted. He also diagnosed the low pressure we were receiving in the house, and gave me an estimate to repair it. I was able to take that estimate into my negotiation for the purchase of my home. But as he did the estimate, he educated me as to the issues that would need immediate repair, and those that could wait to be addressed. 3. In the new house, we had a creepy clogged sink that kept filling with water. I called them and Marcus explained that our condenser line from the AC was draining into the sink. He told me how I could fix it myself, and also gave me a quote of a sort of 'worst case scenario' price. I am not feeling handy these days so I asked them to come out anyway. The next day, Mike coordinated with me to even arrive early if I was available. When he got there, he showed me how to clear the clog myself for next time. I totally appreciated him dropping some plumbing science on me. That was the first time I had gotten a chance to talk with him, and had a meeting of the minds. 4. We discussed some environmental issues and the City of Austin's possible allowance of grey water systems. Mike is a very conscious 'yardner' and is super aware of ways to make a household more green. When the city allows grey water irrigation, I will want them to come help me set a system up to conserve water. It's much less scary to own a home when you have a good, honest plumber in your contacts. read more

Marcus and Mike are great plumbers! After setting appointments with 3 other plumbers, 2 of which were no shows and 1 who gave me an estimate, then rescheduled our appointment 3 times, I was feeling a bit stressed and almost giving up on plumbers completely. I gave these guys a call in an effort to actually have our commercial sink installed and they were able to come out the same day! Before they drove up to Round Rock, we spoke over the phone about the sink to be installed and I was able to email them photos before they gave me an estimate. They arrived as promised that evening, the install took about 4 hours, a little longer than expected, but they still got the job done rather than taking off and leaving half-finished work. The only negative with this experience was the estimate that was originally given was for 2 sinks to be installed, however when they arrived, Marcus claimed he thought it was for only 1 sink. I had sent an email earlier as stated showing that both sinks needed to be installed, but rather than put up a huge fight about it, I just let them install the one sink. It was, still, unfortunately the same price he quoted before, but they did a good job. Both guys are friendly, as a woman, I felt comfortable being alone in my studio with them, which is a big plus. They installed a custom water spout for me, which is another big plus. All in all, I would refer them to others. read more

I've dealt with this company for a total of three minutes and twelve seconds on the phone, and they're getting a five star review from me. I called them trying to hide my freak out over a terrible sound coming from all over the house after I flushed a toilet post water being turned back on (this was not the normal air bubble noise.) The very kind gentleman told me how to fix it by making sure the valve on the back of the toilet was open all the way. I noticed a wet spot in our front yard over the weekend and assumed that we might have a leak in our sprinkler piping. Upon further review, I noticed that the spot was still wet this morning and determined that we had a leak on the water service line to the house. I was lucky enough to have met these guys when I first moved into my house in SW Austin. My company had relocated me here and I was getting a softener hookup in my garage plumbed so I could hook-up my whole-house RO system. After refusing to let the moving coordinator pay $750 for a plumber from another company do a job that I could have done in a couple hours, I found Gardenhouse Plumbing via Yelp! They arrived as scheduled and proceeded to do the job I would have done given the right tools. Heck, they even polished all the copper pipe when they were finished because it was in a prominent location, not under a sink. I had a shower drain that was pretty horrifyingly backed up. After looking up several other suggested plumbing companies on Yelp and finding underwhelming reviews, I found Gardenhouse. We scheduled an appointment online, but forgot to schedule a time. I called Marcos on the scheduled day, and he picked up right away and was able to come out within an hour. He also called me when he and Mike were on their way. I have been kept waiting all day long in the past by different companies for various repair services, so I really appreciate responsiveness. Marcos told me he'd try to unclog the drain with the small machine, but if it was really stubborn he would have to use the bigger machine, which would be an extra charge. Luckily for us, the smaller machine did the trick. They were in and out in probably 20 minutes. They also noticed that my water heater was turned way up and suggested that I turn it down to avoid burning out the water heater and/or accidentally scalding myself in the shower (good advice). I know this was a small plumbing problem, but I am so happy to have found Gardenhouse. Needed a tankless water heater. Got a couple of high quotes from better 'branded' plumbing companies. Called Gardenhouse. Got a water heater installed. Did not like where we put it (we told them to put it there - our fault). We asked them to move it (not an easy task). This took an extra day of labor and after it was all done the total bill was just a smidge over the original quote and the heater is magnificant and works great. We were a pain but these guys never complained and were always friendly and the price was about the same as the original quotes (which did not include an extra day of work) as other companies. Marcus et al are amazing! I had to call them twice: once to install a fatboy water heater in my attic (IN AUGUST!) which they did for well below what other plumbers quoted me. They did a great job and were very friendly despite the fact that it must have been unbearably hot up there. Come to find out that as they were getting ready to leave, Marcus spotted my overflow drain in the guest bath and saw that it had been installed upside down, an issue which had actually caused a leak previously. He fixed it without me having to ask and didn't charge a dime extra. The second time I called them was for a busted obsolete water softener pipe that I destroyed while backing out of my garage. It was on a Sunday, no other plumbers were working, and we had to shut off the main. I was in a panic when I called. He offered to walk me through the process of repairing the pipe myself, but when it became clear that I had no idea what I was doing, he reassured me that he would come out, no matter what. He showed up at 9:00 in the evening after getting off of another emergency job and deleted the line, repaired the pipe, and helped me clean up the mess. He and his partner were incredibly patient with my 5 year old, who kept getting under foot to see what was going on. Gardenhouse is knowledgeable, friendly, and affordable. I live in CA but rent a home in Austin. My tenant called me that they weren't getting hot water. We got a handyman to look and concluded that the water heater was not leaking but the pilot was not staying lit. Since it was urgent, I needed someone who could attend to it on the same day. After a few calls to various plumbing companies, I called Gardenhouse and talked to Marcus. I explained that this was super urgent. He drove across town (from south austin) to cedar park almost immediately. His findings once he looked at the water heater were exactly the same as what he suspected when I first talked to him (defective pilot assembly for this brand of water heater). He had to run back across town to get the parts. He coordinated with my tenant on the best time to come back. My tenant wanted him to show up first thing in the morning, he promptly did and took care of the replacement. Marcus is not only an expert, but very punctual and professional. I've been calling Marcos and Mike for a couple of years now and they've always been great to deal with. Our house is 50 years old and we have some crappy old pipes that like to cling onto anything they possibly can. We had a clog this week, I called Marcos and he was at my place within a couple of hours. He ran his snake out to the street to no avail and then CALLED THE CITY OF AUSTIN FOR ME and had a city crew out within an hour. Marcos handled everything, by the end of the night the city crew had my driveway shredded and they were adding a city clean out (because I didn't have one) and now we're flowing again. Don't waste your time calling any other plumbers. Gardenhouse may not be the least expensive, but they won't nickel and dime you for every single part as did the "other" plumbers. And as for the bigger names in the business...we've used them as well only to get a whopping service bill once the job was done.
