The hosts, Terri & Michael were gracious and kind and so accommodating, it was like being welcomed into an old friends home. Fresh baked goodies were waiting for us upon arrival and special treats just appeared during our stay, making the trip even more memorable. They had the kitchenette so well stocked, everything you could possibly need for a light breakfast at home before setting off to explore Newport for the day. Although Hurricane Sandy delayed our arrival, shortening our stay, accommodations for the sudden change in plans were made. Hawthorne House is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, close to historic downtown Newport and the mansion district, and we found the atmosphere relaxing, the accommodations comfortable, and the hospitality genuine. Terri greeted us at the door upon our arrival and throughout our stay made sure we had everything we needed to make us feel welcome and comfortable, including fresh baked banana bread and homemade chocolate chip and raisin/oatmeal cookies. She kept the refrigerator stocked with a variety of beverages and coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were also available for fresh brewing in the kitchenette. We felt perfectly at home during our stay and even more so when, on late nights out, came back to find the porch and foyer lights on, awaiting our return. We recommend Hawthorne House and the Fitch's kind hospitality to anyone visiting Newport or the surrounding areas.

THE OWNER (ROMANA) IS A THIEF…read more My partner and I (both full-time college professors) booked a three night stay here in March 2019, as we were coming from NYC to Rhode Island for a wedding. When we arrived (around 3pm), the owner was not there and we could not gain entry into the facilities at all. We called her and she said that we never confirmed when we were arriving so she went to a friend's birthday party over an hour away! We were under time pressure to change and arrive to the wedding on time so we had no choice but to find another hotel. This woman still charged us for the full amount of our stay ($652!) and we were unable to recover our money. It is completely UNACCEPTABLE to have to essentially make an appointment(!) to arrive at a hotel. We did not arrive in the middle of the night, when there may be no one on duty. Romana still charged our card for the full stay and refused to refund the money even though no one was on duty to receive us when we arrived (and it would take her over an hour to return to the hotel). We had to bear the inconvenience of finding and paying for another hotel on the fly and yet Romana still refuses to issue us even a partial refund. As academics, both my partner and I travel extensively and I can say, without hyperbole, this is the WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE we have ever had. We have never been treated with such disregard and disrespect. I have never written a negative review before in my life so please trust me when I say DO NOT STAY HERE.

My…read morefamily and I had rented this home 2 summers ago from Lila Delman...we put a $1000 deposit on the house and received the entire deposit back when we left as we left the home in immaculate condition. This year we rented the home direct from Emma Rose and also gave her $1000 deposit. The morning we left the house we spent 4 hours cleaning the entire house from top to bottom even though we had already paid Emma Rose a $350 cleaning fee and were under no obligation to do so....we wanted to leave the house in the same condition it was in when we arrived & left it the way we would want someone to leave our home! We had 2 dogs with us and were so thankful we were able to bring them that we cleaned, swept and swiffered the house on a daily basis to leave no trace that dogs were even there. We also had all trash removed at our expense even though that was also included in the cleaning fee that we paid her. When we contacted her to get our deposit back she claimed the house was left in a filthy condition with "sand" & garbage everywhere and that she would not be returning our deposit. A week had passed since we had left and in that time she made no attempt to contact us about the condition that we "supposedly" left the house in! It was only after I contacted her did she start coming up with completely false accusations. I am appalled at the lie upon lie she is willing to tell in order to keep our $1000! Rent at your own risk & document absolutely everything you can! Beware....large rats on the property also!

Within 5 minutes it affected both of our lungs. It gave me a headache. I have never been in such a moldy room or had that kind of reaction before. I told the manager about the problem. She instantly understood. She offered to help me find another place to stay. She said they would refund me my money and we needed to speak to the owner the next day. We called the owner the next morning. He said he understood that was a problem in his older Inns. However he will not refund us our money and I even filed a complaint with my credit card company. He said the money is not refundable. So I am out $2,100.00 because of his lack of living up to his word.

On the day of check-in, the host text messaged me to keep in touch regarding ETA of check in, check in instructions and check out instructions. We've been to Newport before and have always been in awe at the coastal town but Admiral Sim's House definitely delivered. We pulled in to the driveway of a multi level historic home with neatly trimmed landscape and green grass. The weather was perfect and sunny with birds chirping in the distance. There were stairs to the main entrance of the home. Our room was on the second floor, so we went up a couple flights of stairs with our belongings (no elevator of course). We stayed in the Ocean Room that was tastefully coastal decorated and so clean. The King bed comfortable as ever, the room was very spacious. It had a good sized closet, big bathroom! Our short but sweet night stay was wonderful. It was quiet at night. Did I mention it was pet friendly?! We highly recommend others to stay at Admiral Sims House. We will definitely come back.

Breakfast was a nice mix of toast, jams, yogurt, fruit and a hot egg item. Kcup Coffee available 24/7. Plenty of books/games if you're bored. Cindy, the proprietor was always available and helpful. She even packaged up the leftover egg cups for us to go. At $300/night for a weekend in Newport in August was a huge deal! We will come back.
