He went to school in Le Cordon Bleu and has worked in different LA kitchens. I like that there are many vegan options even though I'm not particularly vegan. It is tasty overall. I really wanted to love this place because it's down the street from my house but this was not it for me. I have tried this place at least 7 times in the past before writing this review. I ordered menudo and the soup tastes like it was watered down. There was a lot of meat but the soup was a no for me. The vegan jackfruit nachos were good while the chips were crispy. 2025 Review #1... I have eaten here so many times throughout the past 33 years. I am super surprised that I had not reviewed here yet. The prices surely have gone up over the years, but that is standard like everywhere else. My friends and I throughout the years have come here and have known the workers here by face off and on, but we have always had great service here! The inside of the restaurant is small and the tiny building is a little run down, but this is what makes this the small iconic place that it has been. I like when the weather is good, they do have some outside seating. I have had many good food items here. When I was younger, I think my main friend that comes here with me and I used to order two items every time we came here. We would get the cheeseburger, fries, and drink special. Always great burgers and well cooked fries. They are generous in portions. We would also get the bean and cheese burrito, which also game with tortilla chips. Again, it was a huge burrito! We were hungry young dudes. Nowadays, I am more of a taco guy. So when I come here, I get the pollo Taco plate with the rice, beans, and tortilla chips. I also get an asada burrito. I love this place and will continue to support it whenever I am in the area just passing through or visiting my friend. I like that I can take the Metrolink from my home in the IE to the BP Station and it's just a few minutes walk from the station! This place is so amazing I had the vegan chili burrito for dinner and the vegan breakfast burrito the next morning while I was in town. Great taco shop with lots of vegan options. Very reminiscent of my days eating at A taco shop growing up. This is my new go to in LA Area. The potato rolled tacos were amazing. The guacamole with cashew cream really set it apart. Also had the cali burrito but Not a fan of jackfruit so I tried the vegan chili with beans for the protein. It was sooo delicious. The Actual Owner of this place screwed up my order 2 times in a row... then got an attitude when I asked for my money back. There's a tall heavy set Hispanic cat that always takes my order in the evenings AND he's the cook... he always makes it to perfection!!!! To him THANK YOU!!!!!! This day I went in the afternoon... whole different crew and the standards definitely took a dive. Nachos were a soggy, wet mess. Looked like slop... and this was the supposed the refire. I'm a professional chef myself and I find it strange that when the owners are in the building is when they lose the most business. Well worthy of a five star for serving an area with limited vegan options but half of the items missed. Those that hit were sooooo danky that it made up for the others. What we liked: the Milanese torta is perfect, get that! The piña colada was also a flavorful and nostalgic, a must get to wash down the food. Take a queso fresco home and put it on everything. This should be your order! What missed: we were most excited for the albondigas soup but it was a bit bland. Maybe we'll go back when it gets cold to see if it hits any different. The cheese on the chili fries was also not what I personally like in the plant-based era we are in. Maybe I got the wrong sweets but the gansitos were not fluffy and sweet but rather stiff. The señora at the front was helpful and I got the Vegan Cali Burrito ($14.50) with jackfruit verde and ofc had to get a dessert so they had the Vegan Tres Leches ($8.95). It was my first time trying this place. I am not a vegan but enjoy vegan food from time to time. I ordered the vegan nachos for myself, and let me tell you, they were horrible! I ordered them with the red jackfruit, and the jackfruit was drenched in a super salty red sauce. The chips had a stale taste to them, and the vegan cheese was very thick and salty as well. I decided to suck it up and try to eat some of it due to how pricey they were... bad idea! The nachos gave me a bad stomach ache! I also ordered a BLT sandwich for my son. The bread was overly buttery and very greasy. The bacon was really salty, more than what bacon usually is. It was as if they added salt to the already salty bacon. We had a wet burrito that was a good size for us to share. The carne asada was a little bland, but overall the burrito was pretty good. We also got a taco de Al pastor and a carnitas one. The carnitas were delicious, they were tender and had a lot of flavor. The Al pastor was also good. The only meat that was a little disappointing was the asada.
