There is some shady business going on here so I wanted to warn everyone. I was here recently and ordered a soda. When I got the bill, I was charged for two sodas and I was wondering why. I thought it was an honest mistake at first, but the soda we drank was the large one so there was no need for a smaller soda. I even told the lady I was taking the large soda so she could mark it down. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the older lady at the cashier (who speaks practically perfect English by the way) looking at me. She obviously knew I was confused. Finally she calls out to me and says she thinks she mischarged me by an extra soda. This meant she knew she over charged us on purpose. Otherwise, why was she looking at me while i was looking at the receipt? How would she know why I had the look of confusion on my face? I let this go since it could have been an honest mistake except a second incident happened almost right afterwards. We decided we wanted to get something to go. The menu clearly stated the price, but when we got our receipt we were charged a dollar more. I asked the lady why it was $1 more and she said that was the correct price even though the menu clearly said it was $1 less. As far as I know, there are no separate menus with take out prices. At this point, I was already pissed and wanted to leave. I let the $1 slide. I don't understand how you go from stating one price on the menu and charging another price. This is wrong an unethical. My take out wasn't even good. Do not get the cuban sandwich. Stick to Sophie's or Tina's in Manhattan. If this lady tried to pull TWO fast ones on me, I am sure this isn't the first time she's done this. She's probably done this to other people so pay attention to your check!!!! I will not be returning here. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. It's sad because I actually semi-enjoyed my meal. I don't care if this is a mom and pop's restaurant. This is a gift to those of us stranded in NJ without access to Mexican food. And the Peruvian dishes, new to me, are spectacular. Vegetarians, stay home, as you should in general. I had a Pastor Taco (if you have to look up Pastor, you don't know Mexican food) and was immediately transported back to California and the taco trucks on 14th street in Oakland. I also had the Bendeja Paisa (see attached menu), an excellent sampler plate of Peruvian foods: thin steak, chorizo, chicharones (done right), two fried eggs, rice, and fried banana. OMFG. There are lots of new (to me) things on the menu that I can try, since I will certainly return. The people are very kind, the customers are clearly Hispanic. They have been open a month and will do well. They are in one of those strip malls along Route 46, so the ambiance is Chrome and Formica. Note to the teens and the gustatorially challenged that haunt Yelp: if you don't like the food here, it is because you have no taste so don't write a bad review. read more

Really, really good food! My family and I ordered a crazy amount of food and it was all really delicious -- limo saltado, bandeja paisa, bisteck a lo mexicano, papa a la huancaina, vegetarian tostadas, and a half chicken. All the Peruvian food was very authentic and tasted homed cooked. We ate in and the service was impeccable. The waitress was very helpful when we ordered and gave us recommendations and tastes of things to try. She even told us when we were ordering too much food and to stop! She brought out samples of all the Peruvian drinks -- ague de horchata, ague de jamaic, and tamarind. All fantastic. I recommend a glass as you wait for your food. I can't wait to go back the food is delicious and to top it all off its one of the best service I've had. Portions are quite large and the prices are very reasonable. A gem in Parsippany; a small place with a very homey feel. This is a cute little spot with a very helpful and warm waitress. I ordered the fish tacos with corn tortillas. They were on the dry side and come wrapped with two shells each, which is more carb-heavy than I like, but the taste of the tacos themselves were great since they also come with some pan-fried scallion stalks - this made my tacos reminiscent of Asian home cooking, in a good way! I like how the waitress described each sauce that accompanied our tacos. There are some peculiar Mexican candies to try by the cashier. I would definitely come again; my friend's lomo saltado was huge and looked delicious. Edit to add - forgot about one of my dining partners' fried rice (?) which was extremely salty but the portion was big. Don't order the fried rice if you are sodium sensitive, but the tacos are quite a bit "cleaner" in taste and the chips are good. read more

I stopped in for lunch while up in the area for work. I eat Mexican all the time but this was my first Peruvian experience. I know that they have Mexican, Pizza and Peruvian (which is awesome to have all in one place) but I had to go with a Peruvian dish since I don't know of any Peruvian restaurants by me. I had the chicken lo mein with onions, tomatoes and red peppers. The dish was huge and so delicious. I was full but just couldn't stop eating. My server allowed me to try two different spicy sauces on the side. One was a very pale greenish color and was both sweet and spicy. And the red sauce was just spicy and not sweet. The sauce on my entree was very good without needing to add the side sauces, but the side sauces were unbelievable and I tried to soak up every last delicious drop of both. Prices are very reasonable and they accept credit card. It just does not get any better than this. Dear Garibaldi Peru-Mex- Please open a restaurant in Philadelphia where I live! We are in need of some Peruvian dishes down here. And thank you to yelp and prior reviewers because I relied solely on yelp to find my lunch destination. read more

The peruvian-style rotisserie chicken is delicious and the tacos are very fresh and authentic. I've had the taco as pastor and the taco de bisteck and both were very good. If you are a Taco Bell lover, this may not be the place for you, because they serve very authentic Mexican tacos, nothing americanized about this place (well, except for the fact that they also offer pizza and buffalo wings, etc.). I am looking forward to trying more items on the menu, especially the authentic peruvian dishes. read more

We went for lunch today. So FREEKKIN YUMMY. Small, tiny, hole in the wall!! I love a hole in the wall. Fancy Smansy places that are expensive and not yummy ANNOY THE CRAP OUTTA ME!!! Very Fresh, A family owns it I think. They were so sweet...One of our dishes was the Mushroom Quesadia, so so good. My husband and I were so overjoyed that everything was not crazy salty, as we are in training and try to eat healthy. People are really unable to grasp that healthy food is the least processed and has the fewest ingredients....Resulting in a fresh taste of the ACTUAL INGREDIENTS...GO FIGURE Why go to a tiny tiny place if you want lightning fast service. We actually waited a while too...But I cannot explain how happy I was at the freshness of our food, that had not been sitting in a freezer...premade for six months. Go to Houlis, Red Lobster or Bonefish for food that is quick and prepared in a factory and shipped across country. The food has few ingredients...whatever meat you order...some cilantro, fresh or fried onion and peppers...frankly I would liken it to close to health food....So if you want some super salty, preservative laden eats...this is not the place for you. read more

Four stars for the food and a bonus star for convenience, since there isn't authentic cantina-style Mexican food this good within a 25 mile radius, as far as I am aware. Meh. That's really all I can say is Meh. I decided to try this place wanting to bring home something different for dinner. Based on the other Yelp reviews no one really recommends anything specific besides the tacos. Having never had an Al pastor taco before I was excited for that, a co-worker gave a couple suggestions so my final order ended up being 2 al pastor tacos, 2 brisket tacos, bistek lo pobre, chicken poblano mole, and an order of tostones. I called around 4:45, she said 20-25 minutes. OK so I make my way up, had to wait about another 5-7 minutes for the food, bill came to $37. Stopped at the liquor store for some beer, and got home. The food sat awhile before we were ready to eat so perhaps this is part of the problem. Everything besides the tacos was just SOOOOO underwhelming. Everything needed seasoning. Is this normal? Perhaps Peruvian food is lightly seasoned I don't know. We ended up salting everything, I added some adobo to it too. I mean I love salt I recognize this, but even my husband thought everything was so bland. The mole was quite sweet and very chocolately. I can't say I'm a Peruvian food or mole expert by any means, but the last time we had mole it was rich and savory---you could detect the chocolate but it wasn't sweet by any means. The chicken was served on top of the mole, the skin was kind of soft and flabby like it hadn't been seared---not sure how they cooked it. The steak was like 2 gray flaps in the box, I get it, steak sits it's going to continue to cook. But even an overcooked steak is ok with me if it's seasoned properly. The tacos were really the only high point to this meal they would get 5 stars. The al pastor tacos did not disappoint, super tasty and very fresh. The brisket tacos the same....they give you 3 sauces with them a clearish green which is spicy sort of like tomatillo, a creamier green not sure what this was but it was tasty, had a nice limeyness to it, and a third a deep reddish brown...just tasted like smoke to me. I will probably come back here and get tacos, but would I give the other food a chance....idk probably not. read more

Don't let the appearance fool you. This location has been a pizzeria for a long time and not much was changed (tables, counter, etc.) when it became the current Peru Mex restaurant but this place rocks. You get real authentic Peruvian food at very reasonable price. Mr. Owner Chef and his team appear to be real proud of this little place and it shows. The food is fantastic and they add very nice little touches like fresh vegetables or many different types of homemade sauces accompanying the dishes. The tacos are a steal at $2 - $2.50 each and the rotisserie chicken is juicy. The soup is hearty and other dishes are authentic and comfortable. I need to go back many times to try out every one of their dishes on the menu. I do wish they get rid of pizza as it distracts from what the place really is. I know that the pizza was a carryover from the previous business and it is about time it gets phased out. If you want pizza, go to other pizzerias. Come here for really good Tacos, Quesadillas, chicken, and tons of other Peruvian food. They also have Inca Kola to go with your meal. read more

The best tacos in town! These are legit tacos prepared with fresh ingredients and with ingredients you won't see in many restaurants (i.e. tongue, cactus, stomach, etc) I'd recommend sampling 3-4 tacos your first time out, they are about 2-2.5 dollars each. I am not a fan of the tacos with cheese - IMO they just overpower the flavor of the meat. It's not a fancy atmosphere but is clean, and the service is incredibly friendly, but will be slow at their busiest - so don't go if you are looking for a fast food place. A table of three waited about 15 minutes for food at the end of the lunch crowd, but we didn't mind and it is well worth it. They have a large variety on their menu, but i stuck to the tacos and peruvian entrees - i tried their rice dish Lomo Saltado and enjoyed it as well. What I found odd was this peruvian/mexican place had pizza as well, and it doesn't look like it has any peruvian or mexican take on a pizza, just traditional italian. first of all, i went here during a mid week afternoon around 1pm. the place was dead. there was 3 customers who were already seated and had their food. i ordered al pastor, which was 4 pork tacos for $10. you cannot order single tacos. i asked the lady how long and she said it will be out in under 5 minutes, because i only get 45 mins for lunch. 18 mins later, my food was done. 18 MINUTES. How is that possible? the tacos were not THAT good. the chipotle sauce was not even spicy. I was highly dissapointed after reading some of the reviews on here. i will Not be returning. read more

Giving this place a solid 3 stars. The food was par, service was nice and the taste was ok at best. If you're willing to drive 10 min down the road, go to Macho Nacho in Morristown instead. That's a true gem for Mexican. We ordered the tacos al pastor (that everyone raves about here on yelp) and chicken tacos. Both were really underwhelming considering the reviews I read. I tried both green sauces which had a delayed spice kick, and it packed a pretty standard flavor for salsa verde. The tacos themselves were pretty bland. I suppose that's ok considering most other places use too much salt. Im honestly a little disturbed how no one really comments on how small the 4 tacos (corn tortillas) are. They were about 4" in diameter and were double stacked. I devoured all 4 and didn't really feel full. Kind of disappointing considering I paid $10. Overall I will try this place again, but perhaps for their combination dishes like their lomo saltado or the like. Stay tuned.. read more

Located in a strip mall which is very hard to find and get to, this gem is worth the search. Doesn't look like much from the outside and inside, it has a feel of a mom and pop place that is really trying to impress, ie table clothes. The tacos are a culinary joy. Fresh small made tortillas right off the grill filled with delectable pork and fresh condiments stand out from any other taco I had in North Jersey. Top that with fresh made avocado crema with a beautiful presentation, and it's the perfect lunch. Excellent Yuca, chicken, and cerviche too. This is my go to Peruvian/Mexican place. read more

It's 1:30PM Saturday on a Thanksgiving Weekend... wanted to try a new place and Yelp seemed to make this place promising. We were the only folks in the place and ordered Lomo Saltado De Carne, Bisteck A Lo Pobre, Bandeja Paisa, Taco de Chorizo. Pro: Lomo Saltado De Carne Beef was cooked perfectly with matching sauteed onions. Very delicious! Neg: Everything else Bandeja Paisa -Rice tasted old, dried, and overcooked like it's been in the rice cooker for 12hrs. -Deep fried bacon - none of it was edible, rock hard, couldn't cut it. -Beef - overcooked, chewed like piece of leather -Beans - undercooked. -Chorizo - overcooked. Too dry, no pork juice coming out. Pork jerky anyone? -Eggs -- the only thing cooked right. Bisteck A Lo Pobre -same overcooked issues with all the ingredients except for the eggs. Taco de chorizo -Chorizo is overcooked. It's a shame, ingredients looked fresh and great but all of it destroyed by overcooking. Order only the Lomo Saltado De Carne (#69), it's the only dish that tasted great and what saved this review at 3 stars otherwise 1 star. If you want really amazing Latin food, it's at Sabor in Edgewater. read more

After driving passed this restaurant a hundred times, I finally tried it out. I hate myself for not coming earlier! My family and I came towards closing and the staff was very welcoming. We all ordered various tacos and the food came out fresh and quick. The tacos are authentic being topped with cilantro and onions. I had the chicken, which was moist and full of flavor. My fiance had 3 different types of pork and loved each one, especially the spicy chorizo. I'd say 2-4 tacos will fill one person up depending on how hungry you are. Just ask the staff for their favorites and they will point you in the right direction. PS. Wish I could give an extra star for having Mexican Coca-Cola ! read more

Located in a small shopping plaza. The food was OK. Maybe above average for the area since Peruvian food seems hard to come by. We went hoping to have rotisserie style chicken similar to El Pollo Loco and Crisp and Juicy which are located down in the DC/MD/VA area but unfortunately it came up way short. The lomo saltado which is what they are known for was pretty decent. I think we would go again, but not for the chicken. Service was good. The Pastor tacos are to die for. The food here is awesome. I passed this place 100 times without going in. One day I went in to try and found a diamond in the rough. Very good Peruvian/Mexican joint in the middle of nowhere. We found this place trough Yelp and the reviews don't lie! We had a few of their taco dishes along with their #84 (the pork was great). The steak, peppers and onion corn tacos were my favorite and the spicy pork corn tacos (+cheese) was delicious too! I would recommend the INCA kola which is Peruvian soda and tastes a bit like a sweet banana creme soda (it has caffeine). Great place for locals and also if you're visiting friends and looking for a traditional food option. read more
