Food and wait staff was OK, but came on a Saturday afternoon and wait for seating was veeeeery long and person doing the seating was a jerk.

If I could give zero stars this time, I would. We were infested with gnats. Not just a few, but they were ALL over our drinks and food and us! We should have been warned to sit inside. But when we complained, we were not treated great at all. Yes, it's harvest time. Yes, there are bugs at harvest time. But at least give your customers an option of sitting inside and when they complain, be sympathetic at least. read more

Came here for a bite to eat. There were 8 in our party. It was 50 minutes before we even received our food. They were understaffed and should have had at least one more waitress. Because it took so long to eat here, we never even got to taste any wine at their winery. Will bring a picnic next time and will completely skip this place. read more

Fillo Wrapped Brie = YUM! Couldn't stop eating this! SO good. Hubby got the pulled pork sandwich and I got the tri tip. Both were super delish! 1 beer, 2 glasses of wine, Brie and two sandwiches (both of which we brought 1/2 home) equaled out to $55 before tip. Not bad at all for a winery in Livermore. We'll be back and bring friends next time. I also appreciate that they have a kids menu which most wineries don't have! :) read more

Pretty nice place to have lunch. The service is good and they always have a tasty lunch special that I usually order. I like to sit outside on the patio whenever I come here for lunch. There's usually an umbrella at every table so you can get a shady spot if you prefer. read more

The food is good and the staff seems ok if you can find someone to serve you. Both times I have been here they have been busy and not had the staff to service the place. Both times I had to ask for menus after sitting for 5 - 10 minutes and that's with a reservation both times. Not ok, but doesn't seem to be a big deal to them as they didn't even acknowledge this. In November 2010 on a very sunny and warm Sunday, my fiancé and I finally checked this place out. The best part was, we were the only ones who chose to dine in, since it was such a great day, everyone else was outside dinning, it was like we had the run of the place and it was great and romantic. The only down part was that it was actually cold inside an for that reason, I gave it 4 stars. The wine was wonderful as it should be. I do believe I had a riesling. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Fillo Wrapped Brie and the Chocolate Walnut Tart. I had the Crab & Shrimp Melt...it was ok. My fiancé had the Boar's Nest and he liked it very much. The server was very helpful and polite and the restrooms, while only one for the ladies and one for the men, the ladies, was very nice and clean. I look forward to coming back and trying other things here and sitting outside, it seems to be very popular. read more

We got married at Garre and come back every year on our anniversary for dinner. (Outside of the other times we visit during lunch). Went on a Friday evening, it was dead. Only us and one other couple eating inside. Outside had maybe 4 couples. We started with one server, she was very pleasant. Then we got a man who wasn't rude, but definitely wasn't nice. Almost seemed like we were bothering him. (Yes we still tipped because he did do his job of bringing our food and taking our order and it's expensive to live in the area. But that's it) The dinner menu has changed and so has the quality. My pasta was way over cooked and protein lacked flavor. Overall, it was okayish. Only ate 1/4 of it. The worst part for us - one of the runners (brings waters and bread) was sick. Heard him sneezing and clearing throat. We figured allergies but low and behold two days later... both of us are sick. Could totally be coincidence but either way when all is said and done we left with a meh feeling about our full experience. Which is almost a hard feat to achieve since we have such a special place in our heart for Garre. Not sure if our tradition will confine. But definitely don't see us returning for lunch or any other outings like we used to. Disappointing to see the changes. read more

I have been to this cafe several times and return because the restaurant has a modern, upscale design and innovative menu. The food has been delicious overall. Today I went to lunch there with three friends. We were seated pretty quickly, but the service went downhill from there. We waited too long for the waitress to come over. We had questions for her before we could decide what to order. She answered them and said she'd give us more time which ended up being about 15 minutes. Finally she returned and took our order. We waited at least 30-40 minutes for our food. Had to ask for water refills. After eating, dirty plates were left on our table as we sat there waiting for the waitress to return. This was just awful service. I've read some negative reviews online for this cafe and it always is due to poor service. Garré management--are you listening? This kind of service just ruins the experience. Why should we return? read more

This is my third visit for lunch and first on a weekend. The dining room is busy but well staffed. Rosie was our waitress and was outstanding. She kept our water glasses full, knew a lot about the food and even shared the Thursday pris fixed menu. It was an absolutely lovely meal, we shared many things. Started going to Garre Cafe many years ago when Annie Andre was GM and we became regular visitors. The menu really never changed and we decided to go elsewhere. Returned several times to find that nothing had changed even though we had recommended several changes to the chef. We returned this Sunday, August 24, 1014 to find that the cafe had moved to its new site a few yards away. The setting is beautiful except for the patio where the same old dilapidated umbrellas are covering the patio tables. Fortunately, one of the long time staff waited on our table. The menu was reduced but basically the same as before. I had the crab cakes as an appetizer. The portion was Increased from 2 to 3 on the plate. However, the crab cakes were the size of thimbles. Very little crab, mostly filler Put them all together and you had a medium sized crab cake for $17.00!!! My husband ordered the antipasta plate. Enough there for 3 people and at $15 not bad. For the main course I ordered the tri-tip sandwich without the onions and aioli...it came with both. The accompanying home made chips were soggy. My partner ordered the flat bread pepperoni pizza which was adequate. For dessert, we had the gelato. Two small scoops for $9. I'd swear it was ice cream and not gelato. All in all a very forgetable experience. Can't wait to try dinner! read more

I recently tried this place for lunch, and was disappointed to find the dining area was in a closed room with no ambiance or view of the vineyards or countryside. The clam chowder wasn't worth eating--it was basically a thick potato soup with few clams and no flavor. The "citrus infused" pulled pork was a little dry and not that good either, and the Caesar salad was boring--just lettuce and croutons with minimal dressing. The only reason for the second star is that nothing actually tasted bad--it just wasn't good and left me wishing I hadn't eaten anything so that I could go someplace and get an enjoyable lunch. read more

Took my wife here for a Valentine dinner. Food was ok but could tell it was prepared prior to our ordering. It was a price fixed menu paired with their wines. We were seated in the foyer away from the restaurant and the ambiance was terrible. They also put a 20 percent tip on the bill. Another lesson learned not to go out on holidays. came here for Friday lunch with coworkers. parking was plentiful and we got a table right away, even though they appeared to be busy and were preparing for a couple of events. I had the citrus-braised pulled pork sandwich with tomato bisque soup. the bottom bun was a slightly moist from the meat juices, but just flipped the whole thing upside down and ate it. it was delicious and filled me up. all for $12. service was quite good. the server took our drink/food order right away. soon after, we got our drinks and bread...food came 10 minutes later. we were done quickly enough that we then had time to walk around and explore their property...all within 1 hour. I want to come here again and try some of the other items on the menu. everyone around me seemed to enjoy the various entrees they ordered. read more

We ate here on a Friday for a late lunch. I like the newer, larger restaurant, but it lacked a bit in ambiance for a few reasons. Music was absent, and you could here a humming fan in the background. It is also a large space with echoing. So I mentioned that music would be a nice touch, and then there was music. But we were on our way out at that point. The wait staff seemed bored and non-engaging to some extent. There were 4 other parties eating when we were there, and several wait staff. But they seemed to be hiding out in the backroom unless they were bringing food. Not that I want to be hounded all the time, but jeez, my glass sat empty! I was ready to write this place off until the food came. I was surprised- pretty fantastic food for Livermore. I had the Chicken Marsala over angel hair. It was fantastic. All the flavors were perfect and a plethora of mushrooms. I've had this dish butchered so many times at other restaurants, so this majorly impressed me. My husband had the burger. Sounds pedestrian, but he is a burger aficionado, and I always give credence to a restaurant on how he rates their burger. He rated this one pretty well, so I was again impressed. We are going back when the patio is open. Hopefully the food will maintain its quality, and the wait staff will wake up and realize they're at work. This place has real potential; a good manager would take heed of these reviews to make some pretty easy tweaks to really make this place a destination. read more

Until they remodeled the place and moved to the new building, Le Garre was my go-to place for lunch, especially when we had visitors at work from out of town. The old spot was cozy and charming inside, the view of the vineyard from the patio was really pretty, and the food, while not spectacular, was good. The view from the new patio is quite a letdown relative to the old one (you see cisterns instead of a pretty vineyard and hills), and the interior of the new building is pretentious and completely devoid of charm. The menu has slightly changed, as well, with some of my favorite items no longer on it. Moreover, the prices have gone up significantly, including the old items. I've been back twice after the remodeling and have decided that it's really not my kind of place anymore. I really miss the old place and so do many of my co-workers, who also used to come here quite regularly. read more

Went there for lunch on a Saturday. Our server Rosie was terrific, along with the other wait staff who never let our drinks get low. We ordered a couple of appetizers, one which was the calamari. Delicious! I had the chopped salad and my husband the salmon. It was so good! Not to mention everything was plated so beautifully. Came here with the intention to try some of their wines but the tasting room was not open so we decided to have lunch. We were greeted by Kelly Marsh the supervisor. She was awesome! Very friendly, attentive, and a great personality. We ordered our food tried their chardonnay and sparkling wine. We told her that we were bummed the tasting room was not open. She let us know that they did have some wines that were currently on sale by the case and if we wanted she could do a wine tasting for us. We had such a great time left there with 3 cases! This is a great little spot to have lunch. I really enjoy coming here for a tasty meal and a great glass of wine. My favorite item here is the Brushy Peak sandwich, named after a local hiking region. Smoked turkey,peppered bacon,avocado, and jack cheese on sour dough, yum! I pair this California style sandwich with my favorite Garre wine, Profound Secret. I have to admit that the name is a little silly but this bled is amazing. The rest of their menu is mostly Italian influenced but there are a few American favorites as well as Asian. I have always had great service here I have never had a cold, late meal or a grumpy server. The ambiance is cozy but clean and decorated with a slightly rustic Mediterranean feel. I also liked that the wall were decorated with art from local artists. Although I have not dined outside, they also have an outdoor patio and bocci ball. I think this is a great place and I suggest it to anyone who would love to dine causally in wine country. read more

This cafe is tucked away in a little winery and while the setting makes for a nice lunch spot, the food just average. This place draws influence from Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. I've been here a few times already, trying the seafood pasta, pork marsala and most recently, the chicken and mushroom carbonara. I never thought I would be disappointed with a dish rich in bacon, but I felt that the bacon was a bit overpowering in the carbonara and made the dish extremely salty. I've had the pork marsala twice, the first time it was excellent as the pork was well cooked and juicy while the sauce was very rich, but the second time, the pork was a bit overcooked. The seafood pasta was good and loaded with seafood, but was probably overpriced. If you're looking for a place to dine outdoors in a nice cozy setting and aren't picky about the food, this is the place for you. I would recommend coming early for lunch as the place is small and service is a bit on the slower side. read more

Bad brunch experience!! I paid $10.95 for their creme brûlée French toast. All I got was a single slice of French toast cut in half with an orange wedge - no sides included. Service was terribly slow, water was unfiltered and undrinkable. We had to remind our server several times for water and utensils. We paid our bill with $40 cash and she just assumed the 30% tip was for her and didn't return our change. I have enjoyed Garre's wine pairing dinner on several occasions. I understand that Sunday brunch is a new service offered, but if this half-ass experience is the best they can do, they should expect to put the reputation of their wine, lunch and dinners on the line as well. Hopefully things change because the ambiance was relatively nice. read more

Much has changed since I was here 4 years ago! The cafe moved much farther back from the tasting room and is huge! Large outdoor dining area, dining room and a large space for weddings. Perfect spot to stop for lunch when out tasting. We had complimentary bread, glass of estate chardonnay ($8/glass) special risotto of the day ($16) with prawns, mussels, and calamari. Horrible experience and more chaos!! We could not stay for dining due to our horrible experience. At first, we did not see the hostess at the reception area, but we were greeted by a working server who was kind enough informing us the waiting time, which was within 5 minutes. However, after couple minutes standing and waiting in front of the reception area, we saw the hostess who did not greeted us and pretended we were not there. After helping two late-coming group, one with reservation and the other did not, then we finally were been greeted by the hostess. The hostess informed us that our waiting time will be 35 minutes and we were shocked, because that was totally different than what we were being informed at the beginning. More ridiculously, even the hostess did not take down our name before leaving and we were confused! More confusing thing was we were not informed by the hostess how many groups ahead of us as we kept seeing many late-coming groups, which were without reservations, were being seated. Finally we decided to leave there, and suggesting not dining there as it is lack of proper business manners. read more

Took the 30 mile drive today to try Cafe Garre. Lunch was worth the drive and I expect I will return. I tried the trukey sandwich, which tasted very fresh and light. It comes with pasta salad that I do a different side. The n't recommend. The chardonnay recommended by my waitress was excellent and made the dry pasta salad less of a concern. :) read more

Went to the new Café Garre for a work lunch and enjoyed every bit of it. We started with tasty Focaccia bread and a nice glass of wine. I had the Margarita Flatbread, and it was delicious. The tomatoes were so fresh and it was cooked just right in a brick pizza oven. I also had a slice of the Molinari Pepperoni pizza and it is definitely something I will be back for. The pepperoni had just the right amount of spiciness and the pizza was not overly sauced. Always a nice surprise. I did steal bites of the special risotto of the day with English peas and vegetables and the filet mignon with the apple spiced yams. All very good. I finished my meal with a delicious slice of tiramisu. Our server was very friendly and helped make wine suggestions for us. Will definitely bring my husband here for lunch. read more
