Because we've been patients here for years, this recent experience with the front desk was extremely disappointing. My original appointment was scheduled for Wednesday, August 12 at 10:00 AM. On Thursday, August 6, the office called me and asked if I wanted to move my appointment to Friday, August 7 at 10:00 AM. I agreed, but later that evening my kids reminded me that they had something going on at school that Friday morning. I called the office as soon as they opened to let them know I couldn't make the newly moved appointment and asked to keep my original appointment date. I was then told I would have to pay a $50 same-day cancellation fee. I was confused because my original appointment was not that Friday--the office had contacted me and asked me to move it up to Friday. I understood that I had agreed to the change, but I didn't feel it was fair to be charged a same-day cancellation fee when the appointment had originally been scheduled for the following Wednesday. Despite this, I called again on August 19 to schedule my cleaning. I was given an appointment for Monday, August 31 at 12:00 PM. I was again told about the $50 fee and was told I could speak with Dr. Park about it when I came in. I agreed. I drove approximately 45 minutes from Anaheim to San Pedro for this appointment, only to arrive and be told there was no appointment for me on the schedule. After checking my information, the front desk staff member told me that I had never actually been scheduled because I didn't want to pay the $50 cancellation fee. This was extremely frustrating because my understanding from our conversation was that I WAS being scheduled for that date and time and could discuss the fee with Dr. Park when I came in. What makes this even more disappointing is that I made a 90-minute round trip, spent money on gas, and rearranged my day based on what I was told by the office. If I was not actually going to be scheduled, that should have been clearly communicated to me when I called. I understand that dental offices have cancellation policies, but there also needs to be clear communication and good customer service. Patients should not have to drive nearly an hour each way only to arrive and find out they were never actually scheduled. After being a patient here for years and coming here through my dad's Longshoremen insurance, I expected much better communication and customer service. I hope management addresses this because this experience was extremely frustrating and could have easily been avoided with proper communication.

I brush and floss daily, and I go for regular dental check ups and cleanings, so I'm not used to having dental issues. One day, though, out of the blue, I woke up to strong pain in my mouth. I went to see my regular dentist, who looked at the xray and told me I needed a root canal from a specialist. I knew Dr. Ramin Noghreian through my wife, who was a member with Dr. Ramin in the same business organization. I didn't know much about him professionally, however, so I travelled to Torrance on faith. And I'm glad I did! I was really impressed when they put me in an dental CT scan machine that just scanned my mouth. I didn't know such a machine existed! It's a good thing they have it too, because my tooth had not one nerve root, not two, but THREE nerve roots that Dr. Ramin had to artfully excise and then fill. Dr. Ramin made sure the experience was pain-free for me, and it went quite smoothly. The temporary filling Dr. Ramin put in place was so good that, when I went back to my regular dentist to get a crown put one, it took her almost 15 minutes to get it off! This is a state-of-the art practice that's also a family practice. Dr. Ramin's sister, Nooshin, is also an endodontist there, and his wife, Naze, is the office manager. You feel very welcomed when you go there. One never knows what the endodontist will find when he or she goes in to your tooth to do a root canal. (In my case, it was a 3-nerve "mess"!) So you want the best surgeon with the best equipment. I can tell you from personal experience, that's what you'll get at South Bay Endodontics!

The first time I called and explained my situation, the lady (don't know her name but it is the same one each time I call) who answers the phone told me that I needed to 'confirm' that there was an issue with the tooth that needed Endodontic treatment. I did that and called back, I was told there were no appts for 2 weeks. At that time I was in excruciating pain. Still was told no appts for 2 weeks !!! So I allowed my Oral Surgeon to perform the treatment. He opened (accessed) the tooth and found issues, so he administered medication into the tooth prior to beginning Root Canal treatment. He also had to eliminate the top portion of the tooth. So I have half of a tooth. It will ultimately have a temporary then a permanent crown, but for now I have half of a tooth. Upon my return visit he determined that I needed to see an Endodontist to ascertain whether there was a crack as the tooth is still sensitive to percussion. So I gave him Dr. Jason Phans name and tried to get an appt. A "Same Day Appt" as advertised on their website. I think this qualifies. But, Hold on, I had my Oral Surgeon's office call and they were told I could come Mid-August !! So I called myself and explained that we had spoken previously and my surgeon's office called also and requested to be seen this week as my tooth may have a fracture. After pleading the same lady I refer to says she will see what she can do and call me back. She did and offered August 3rd!! Today is July 8th !! She says 'you should be ok with antibiotics and pain killers' !! For an entire MONTH. Without knowing if I took antibiotics and pain killers already for this issue... How utterly unprofessional, irresponsible, uncaring and rude! At one point she told me there are many Endodontists that I can see in the area. I wonder if Dr. Phan knows that this is how his potential clients are being treated !!! They are not given same day appts for urgent matters, they are told to take meds and wait or see another practitioner. I will take the latter !
