Just changed from this dentist and realized how completely unhappy I had been for far too many years. I was always deflecting upselling treatments and the concern was more about making money than giving good care. I am highly sensitive to Novocaine and it wasn't until I changed dentists that I found out that there were different types of Novocain that this office won't spend the extra $ to purchase. CM from Torrance is absolutely correct. Shady as can be. Dr. Shook is very thorough and likelable but her husband who does the billing is a snake and completely unprofessional. He pads the bill and gives BS reasons why the bill is padded. I got a quote for cleaning after paying $1,400 at my first visit for an exam and a mouthguard. $1,000 for a mouthguard and four months later (March 2, 2025), Dr. Shook said it was already comprised. I have been wearing mouthguards for 30 yeas and have never had one ever be compromised. $1000 for crap. I went in on March 2 for a cleaning only and was quoted $160. Dr. Shook popped in for five minutes and checked my teeth and mouthguard. When I went to check out, Peter (husband) said it was $268. I said wait, I came in for a cleaning only. He said Dr. Shook has to do an exam every time. I said I was just here four months ago and paid over $300 for my exam, I don't need a second one. He said that is how we do things here. I asked to speak to Dr. Shook personally and he said she didn't have time. Not, let me take your number and have her get back to you. Just plain no, you cannot speak with her. Snake. read more

It's always nerve wrecking going to a new dentist, but Dr.Shook is one of the best and sweetest dentist I've encountered. The office is nice and clean and the staff is amazing. Liars and thieves... Stay away... Do not believe all the "good" fake reviews... At the end of last year my dental insurance showed Dr. Shook in-network, & her husband Peter (receptionist) also confirmed in person when I schedule my first cleaning for the beginning of this year. Yet, as the processes Dr. Shook expediated completing (cleanings/fillings/crown/bi-annual periodic evaluation) and EOB's started coming through, I then realized that these people/couple were thieves consuming the annual max insurance plan allowance. Last straw was billing my insurance for a periodic evaluation while my appointment was only for a cleaning, and during that cleaning the doctor asking how my crown (approx 1 1/2 month earlier) was doing. Keep in mind the cleaning process was short lived (less than 30 minutes) and was billed for an hour. Then, when informing Peter in person that I was not going to continue as their patient and asking Peter for copies of my records and x-rays, I was told he'd email the x-rays, but I would have to get my records from my EOB's. BEST DENTIST EVER!!! I found Dr. Shook through a colleague who recommended her. My initial visit was to repair the damage another dentist caused which was a root canal. From the moment I walked in I felt better as if I was in good hands already. She has become my regular dentist and though the drive is not close I am willing to drive the extra mile every six months for my visits. Victoria is an excellent and considerate dentist and Peter is a great office manager, and is very good at out sorting out insurance billing. Our family have been going to this practice for years. I have had many fillings and a root canal fail from a previous dentist that Victoria was able to save. I recently had a problem with an old crown and Victoria fitted a new one for me just two weeks ago, it already feels better then it had in years. Victoria also keeps conversation with her assistant while she works which is always interesting and enlightening and far better then those practices where you sit there with only the sound of the drill for company! I've been going to Dr. Shook for over two years and I can't recommend her enough! I first walked into her office with a loose crown in bad need of being replaced, or so I thought. It turned out to be a cracked tooth that had to be removed. She was able to get me into the oral surgeon the same day for an implant, and back to her office for the temporary tooth. Ever since then she has been my dentist. Dr. Shook is not only excellent at what she does, she is also patient, caring, compassionate, and will explain everything in detail. Her staff is also highly trained and just a really nice group of people. They are always friendly and warm when I come in for a visit. Even if you're just in need of a cleaning, her hygienist, Yunhee, is also excellent. She is always checking on you throughout the cleaning to make sure you're doing ok, is very thorough, and makes recommendations on your specific needs. Most awesome dentist ever, I am a dentist chicken of sorts ,so me saying that Dr. Shook is awesome really means something. I had a dental emergency and needed to see someone fast. I called and got in that afternoon. She was so kind, my tooth was cracked, I was in a lot of pain but she did a great job. I knew when she very nicely told me my tooth "was doomed" that I had found a great dentist. Just telling me that way was so much easier than "it needs to come out". In the end the tooth had to be removed because it "was doomed". She is funny, kind and a very nice person too. Her office staff is wonderful. She books 1 patient at a time, (unless someone has an emergency) so she is not bouncing from patient to patient. They are on time and you are never there longer than necessary.
