The installer installed my new water heater right on top of the old tray, which was loaded with debris and muck and water from leak and previous years dirt. Didn't even wipe it out. To resolve they wiped around the water heater did not clean anything under which of course would've been a pain in the butt, but definitely a huge concern in quality of service. read more

I have used them 2 times in the last 18 months. Once for emergency sewer work on a pump that went out and once for a toilet replacement. They are great at communicating when they will be there and their bill has been exactly what was given as an estimate over the phone. They were also there very quickly when needed. Here I am again, 12 years and 1 month later. I was desperately in need of rooting out my sewer. It was 100 percent blocked. I called Permidt again (yes, I kept their business card all these years). I talked to Christina. She said she was able to get someone out immediately. 30 minutes later they were at my doorstep. They ran a 2" cutter and took care of my issue. I am so happy to use them again. Highly recommended. BTW: Come to find that I was the very first YELP reviewer on this company. I rarely leave reviews but have to leave another for this company. Permidt installed a backflow/ clean check and clean out system. unbeknown to me they cut through a pipe for our sprinkler system which I realized as we enabled our sprinkler system. John, the owner, tells me after the fact that they aren't responsible for reconnecting the pipe, which we now have water gushing from the ground. plumbers and sewers need connection to prevent leaking. totally irresponsible explanation. not good practice. be aware of this firm. as an aside, my father was a sewer man and I worked right beside him. Highly recommend! Woke up to a sink that backed up and leaked through ceiling below. My family had used Permidt recently and a great experience with John and his crew so I thought I would see if they could quickly respond. Found a way to fit us in on a busy Monday, fixed the issue that was backed up in several sinks and toilets. The crew that had responded were knowledgeable and efficient! I don't care for this company because even though they did come to your house on the same day, they don't wear any shoe cover so they drag everything that they walk in all over your floors. Secondly they didn't clean up very much after their mess that they made. I called John today and asked him to send someone because when they came Monday and what they did didn't work. I told him that I needed the toilet removed because I can't replace a toilet with another toilet not being sure that something below the current toilet isn't broken and he agreed with me. Yet when he sent his plumber here, that plumber was told not to replace the toilet. I told this plumber that he needed to remove the toilet because I had to know that everything was good below the toilet before buying a new one. He did do it but when he called John; John wasn't happy with the fact that he did it, because they had other customers... well I'm a customer too. I don't think we're using them again. read more

I have used Permidt for over 15 years after recommendation by a co-worker. They have done numerous jobs for me- replaced toilets, replaced faucets, cut out leaky tub trap and replaced with new piping, opened up wall to replace dried up and clogged drains. I have an old house built in 1936. Not only are they efficient, but very reasonably priced. I have met Vince, Chuck and Fritz and talked to the owner John. Great group of guys, highly recommend them and will continue to use them!! read more

I had my River Forest kitchen sink all but stop draining. I was referred to them from another plumber who couldn't make it out ASAP. Fritz and Sam came out within a day and had the drain rodded out in no time. (The likely culprit: grease.) They were great and let me pepper them with questions about my house and were open to me asking and insightful. read more

After only two weeks in my newly purchased townhome in the city, I had a water heater go out. I called numerous plumbers all over the city and suburbs, asked friends, and eventually got a referral to this company from my existing, very good HVAC contractor. The plumber came out promptly and installed it that day, and despite the high cost (over $2000), I was pleased with the service. Imagine my disappointment, when yesterday I noticed a drip in the pipes where this supposedly new water heater was installed. Thinking the labor might still be under warranty, I called the company and explained the issue. A plumber came out and fixed it today, and did a good job. I have no issue with that workmanship. However, that workmanship today cost me an additional $195. The plumber explained to me that the piping he had just fixed was original to the home, and not the piping that connected directly to the water heater. Ok. But, still I feel ripped off. I just paid over $2000 not 2 months ago for a proper installation of a water heater. I specifically chose this company since they were about $200 less than another quote (from a plumber my coworker recommended). Surprise--they weren't. I will not use them again, and my search for a reputable plumber in this city continues. Very disappointing. read more

We are downtown Chicago and they made the trip out to fix the plumbing in our high rise condo building on the 20th floor; John's service was above and beyond. There were more issues than he was told about and he went out of his way to find and fix each issue and explain everything to us in laymen's terms. He was even so kind as to replace a floor cover to make it look nicer and fit better. This company does true and honest work and I would recommend them to everyone. read more

This company was recommended to us so we called them out to take a look at an issue we started having. They are only receiving 1 star because I cannot leave half a star. I might as well have had a stranger from the street put on a mask and say they were a plumber come in my house and hang around and not fix anything. Then on top of that fully charge me for service; and nothing was touched, diagnosed or even attempted while in my home. Poor business practices. If you are unable to fix an issue or do not want to fix the issue tell the customer upfront, do not leave them waiting and wasting everyones valuable time. I highly advise searching elsewhere for professionals willing to work and correct the problem. read more

2 plumbers come to my house from Permidt Engineering in Franklin Pk. The only 2 going up and down my stairs where sits my son's keys. They left and poof - his keys where gone. One of them STOLE his keys - really WTF. Don't let this trash in your house. They said maybe someone came in and took them. We had water starting to back up in our basement late Thursday night. I called and left messages for most places in the neighborhood. They were the first to get back to us and we're willing to come out first thing in the morning on Friday. Another business nearby was very nice but could not get out for 4 days. They were there by 8 30 am and done by 11am. The price for the rod out of the mainline was reasonable, they gave me an accurate estimate once they identified the problem (no add-ons) and the plumber (Fritz) was very nice and helpful. Even very nicely dealt with my two year old who was so excited to see his tools and would not stop talking to him. Lol. I would highly recommend. read more

Permidt is okay. But I now use Mid-City Plumbing as they are just about the best I have ever used.

We have lived in Elmhurst for 25 years. Our first five years, we used the ubiquitous plumbing companies named after nationalities. After one distasteful experience, we called Permidt to fix the problem. They came out to put in rod-in access on the same day. The have done plumbing subcontract work for us. They are prompt, smart, responsive, fairly priced and god people. They have my highest recommendation for tradesmen. read more

Excellent service!! Great plumbers!! Have had a couple interactions with Permidt Engineering and has just always been positive. This week had John out to fix a leaky faucet, and I am just so pleased with the level of professional and friendly service he provided. Fixed my leak on the first visit; had to come back for a follow up (loose handle was turning all the way to hot on it's own) but the issue had resolved itself by the time he had arrived. Still he checked the valve and made some minor tweaks without giving me any guff for an issue that was no longer there. (Sorry to have sent you chasing ghosts John!!) I do feel though the follow up work only made the handle work even better!! Really very trust worthy and professional service. Will use Permidt again in the future!!
