The sandwiches here are unmatched by any other shop in town. Unless there are a lot of orders, the are usually pretty quick, at the busiest I've seen it's taken less than 30 mins. Gas Cafe is unique in that it's also a gas station, with half of the space having snacks, sodas, first aid, etc. and the other half is tables and the ordering/checkout counter. Unassuming but totally delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my "bird flew" sandwich with seasoned chicken, bacon, avo etc. It was flavorful and hearty. And the CURLY FRIES! So crispy and delicious. Order ahead of time! Yes, it's inside the shell gas station but this is not your average quick stop. We stopped to fuel up before our long drive back home only to realize that there is a great sandwich shop inside. We made the mistake of not calling ahead so we had a long wait time but it was worth the wait. I ordered the phg blt and all the toppings were fresh and everything was made to order. Truly excellent short stop breakfasts. The Hurley, Burley and Shirley are the basics which are egg and cheese sandwiches with either ham, bacon or sausage AND a giant hashbrown potato triangle. Excellent breakfast served with some attitude. All gas stations should be like this place. The breakfast sandwiches are great hiking fuel hungover or not. There is no reason not to eat here if you are camping. How could you choose oatmeal over this? I recommend the Hurley. Sausage, cheese, fried egg and hashbrown inside of an English muffin. We tried a lot of the places in CB and this was THE spot. Everything was so good! I could have eaten here everyday. The New Yorker for breakfast was so filling and satisfying. Highly recommend. The guys working there were nice and let us know the wait times which was really helpful when we were on a hiking schedule. Definitely recommend calling it in ahead of time if you've got a mountain top waiting for you. It was pretty busy the 4 days we ordered food from here for good reason. We called in an order for two sandwiches and were told 30-35 minutes. I get there to pick up my order 40 minutes later and get told 5-7 more minutes. Not worth it. And the cooks are smart asses when you ask how much longer. For something that's barely better than McDonalds waiting almost an hour isn't worth it. read more

The worst hamburger I have ever been served in a restaurant. The dude who cooked it -actually it wasn't cooked - meat raw and the cheese was not even melted - just plopped on top. I took it back and when it returned there was no cheese on it- and it was so greasy it was literally unedible. My friend order a chicken sandwich and once again the dude got it wrong - putting a salty type sauce that was so salty - could be eaten. We've eaten at Gas many times over the years and been pleased - but WE WILL NEVER GO BACK & anyone we talk too will no how bad it was. One star is a gift - there should be a negative star to communicate my total displeasure with this place- stick to pumping gas. read more

I love this is our only option for fast and greasy food. It's not your normal "fast food". The owners have put a lot of thought into the food they cook and the way they cook it so it isn't just your normal gas station food. I'm sure they wont love this but if you are hung over and don't feel like waiting forever to get a table on Elk Avenue, call in a Hurley, grab a coke, and take it to sit down by the river to eat so really start your day. read more

Burley and a bird flu... Great food but the wait is getting crazy when there's a ton of people in town. Call in your order and it can still be up to a half hour before it's ready. CB is CB, so not a complaint. If they par cooked some bacon it would speed breakfast up a ton. But best greasy breakfast and lunch in the country by far and the gas is the cheapest in CB. read more

Stopped here on the way out of Crested Butte to get some snacks at the Shell. To my surprise, Gas Cafe was inside the convenience store! The menu is mostly hot/cold sandwiches and burgers. The prices were decent so I went for it and ordered a BLT ($5.95) Took only a few minutes and we were on the road again. This BLT, let me tell ya, wow! Stopped here for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Guys were incredibly friendly and welcoming, food and coffee hit the spot. We had the sandwich with egg, cheese, bacon, and a hashbrown. While hitting my need for salty cheesy goodness, it wasn't greasy. Fun spot inside of the Shell, but they thought of everything and have a coffee station and a bunch of booths so you could sit and eat if you wanted.
