I need to start off by saying my husband and I have LARGE appetites, and it's hard for us to find a restaurant that serves enough food to fill us up for the money... ESPECIALLY in a "tourist" town like St. Augustine. Gas- Full Service sure lives up to it's name because we both left with full tanks! You simply can not beat the price for the quality and quantity of the food. I eat plant based, and my husband is a meat eater, so it's also very difficult to find a restaurant that serves vegan options like tofu and tempeh, ALONGSIDE BURGERS!!! My tofu was seasoned SO well... it was a nice blackening seasoning, and was full of flavor. I felt really full after devouring my plate. My husband's burger was massive and he had a hard time eating it because it was so large! I am beyond happy I found this little hidden gem! The only downside to the restaurant is how small the dining area is, so we decided to take our plates to go. Either way, amazing service, amazing food, five stars ALL THE WAY- We will definitely be back!!! Check out the jalapeño popper burger, that's what my husband wants to try next. It's been a looong time since we've had dinner at Gas. It was great to get back to it and the food was just as good as it was a few years ago. We started with the fries that were topped with cheese, scallions and bacon! Perhaps not a healthy choice but since we were sharing, I only had a few and they were worth it! I started to order chicken but I couldn't get past ordering one of their great burgers. I ordered one with Swiss cheese, fried onions, mushrioms, lettuce and tomato...all on a huge homemade bun. Very glad I ordered it. I want to say the service was great too. We were the last ones there on a Saturday evening and never made to feel as if our table of 6 needed to hurry as is often the case at other restaurants. It was a busy spring break evening and the entire staff was so pleasant and helpful. The owner took the time to stop at our table at least twice - such a gem! This place is just so wonderful . My husband had Jose's double cruiser an amazing burger. I had a shrimp po boy . Everything was so delish . From the huge shrimp , sauce, fresh made bread , and the slaw is so good . I wish I could express how meticulously the food is made ! Everything on our plates were perfectly prepared . I'd heard about their food for literal years and finally gave it a go with some friends of mine. The quality of the ingredients was felt throughout the entire meal, the staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was very much alive. Perfect for a couple well-behaved kiddos who just wanted some Mac and a burger as well as for the mini bar for the grown-ups My out-of-towners were incredibly bummed to find that their new favorite burger was all the way up in St.Aug! This restaurant never disappoints. Last night. We went last night for dinner and ordered the Reuben Rolls and the fresh catch mahi sandwich. The reuben rolls were delicious and so crispy. The fish sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. It was a large piece of fish on a smaller bun. The bun didn't overpower the fish by being huge and bready. Ambiance was fine, service was OK, my biggest issue with the whole reason we went there and it was so I could try the highly coveted jalapeno popper burger. My wife asked how it was and all I could say was "eh, the bread is good" to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I had never been before, took a client for lunch, we started with the home made pimento cheese, a staple for me when it's on any me lunch. We both had the special fish, which was golden tile, it was mild, white, flaky. I had mine grilled in the TIki salad, she had the entree prepared sautéed with sweet potato fries. Possibly the best burger on the planet. Seriously. I get the Sara's burger, but any char-grilled patty cooked medium is perfection. The patty is crisp, well-seasoned, and delicious. So no matter what toppings you like, the burger will be a star. The buns are homemade and lightly toasted with butter, and they take great care in all of their ingredient choices. Everything is top-notch. Long beer list, too. Service is great, and the owner is often there to make sure people are enjoying their meals. Vibe is cool - I'd say it's "cool, no frills southern hospitality". But I swear to God, this burger lives up to the hype. I've known about it for years, and I just ate one that was so good I felt the need to log on here and write this. It has to be very good (or bad...) for me to take the time to write a yelp review! He greeted everyone as they walked in the door, told us the specials, recommended his favorites, and had a great attitude and seemed to know several regulars. It was a tough decision for me between the Cuban burger or the gyro burger, but I went with my original decision of the Cuban burger. Beware these burgers are BIG and taking a bite is it's own challenge and I only got the single, but it was amazing. A little greasy but mostly just the mojo sauce dripped off. The place is small but the menu has a little bit of everything. I had the jerk chicken sandwich and my husband had the meatloaf. My sandwich was really good, however he said the meatloaf was pretty dry even though flavorful. The waitress was really on top of it and helpful with suggestions. This review is a culmination of my Spouse and I who had vastly different experiences at the same time. It started off strong for both of us. Good service and the ambiance was the desired laid back and chill with a fun theme played throughout. The Reuben Rolls were made delicious by the sauce generously spooned on top. The presentation of food was on point and very "insta" worthy. Then came the true test of taste. I enjoyed my Island Burger with the sweet and savory. I was hoping for more of presence of sauce but it was still an overall win. Now my other half had gotten the famed jalapeño popper burger which turned out to be an over hyped flop. From the specific way you have to eat it to the completely lack of flavor, he was bummed. He wanted to love it, but unfortunately it just didn't work out. We came here on a Friday night in November 2019 the place was packed and was very loud and noisy but we decided to stay because we were hungry. My sister got the black bean burger and it was very good my other sister got a burger with a fried green tomato and it was also very good the bread they use for the hamburger almost looks handmade. The fries were okay nothing spectacular. I got a salad for $4 and it was a pretty good size salad and was good! I also got a cup of tomato soup that was fantastic. We stumbled on GAS when looking for a burger on vacation. A retro decorated space near the bridge to downtown on the beach side. They have been featured on Food network 2x for their over the top specialty burgers. We didn't order those but opted for a more classic version. I had a single with pepper jack and a fried green tomato. My husband had a double cheese burger. Both burgers were cooked perfectly. The bun was surprisingly delicious and not your standard store bought bun. The downsides: lack of parking, basic bag fries, and pickles. This funky little joint is the ideal Triple D location. It has great atmosphere, cool servers, and wonderful food. I'm a sucker for a great Cuban sandwich. When I seen the Cuban burger I immediately knew what I was going to eat. Let me tell you, this hit all the right marks for a Cuban sandwich. At first, the pork burger kinda makes you think twice. But, love at first bite! It's juicy, flavorful, and doesn't overpower the rest of the sandwich. I enjoyed the sweet potato fries and homemade bbq sauce. My wife honestly thought the grilled cheese sandwich was the best she's ever eaten. This is a compliment from her because she's eaten grilled cheese sandwiches from NYC to Anaheim CA. Lastly, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to try the Coconut custard brûlée pie. This is not an overly sweetened dessert, it's a wonderful combination of egg custard and coconut. Their brûlée top adds that perfect amount of burnt sugar sweetness and texture. Being an openly critical foodie, and this is not a complaint but merely my opinion. Personally, I believe a sugar crust would've worked well with this pie. We ordered drinks and then both decided to get burgers, which seems to be their specialty. They had many different burger options and something for everyone really. I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger and it was very yummy!! The fries were also good!! The prices seemed reasonable! The restaurant could probably use a renovation or update but it was okay, maybe just not my style. One thing I didn't like was the ice water I got to drink, it had a very weird taste. Great experience, Delicious food It was my first visit to St. Augustine and I happened to stay near the restaurant. I had researched unique, must-try restaurants in St. Augustine and this was on the list. I also saw the video on YouTube. The next day I went back for lunch and to try the famous Jalapeno Popper Burger. Very friendly service, and while I was waiting at my table for my order, Lindy came by and she actually remembered my name. That is special service, and an owner that is passionate about offering a welcoming experience. She gave me a tip on eating that giant burger, which was to cut it in half without squishing it down, and then eat each side like a taco. Worked perfectly. The burger was exactly as described and very tasty. I see some complaints that the burger was not hot/spicy enough; I didn't expect that the burger would burn my mouth, and although I like spicy food, the slight heat was perfect for me. Amazing place!! A friend took us here and the recommendation did not disappoint. We started with the Reuben egg rolls. 6 come with the order which was way more than expected. They were delicious! Then my husband and I both got different burgers to share. He got the Cuban burger (which was our favorite out of the two). You could taste the Cuban flavor within the burger. I got the jalapeño popper burger. Definitely a unique burger. The only disappointment was there was no kick to it. I was expecting with the word "jaleleno" there was going to be a spicy taste to it, but there wasn't. It was delicious, just don't go in expecting that jalepeno kick. The cole slaw was my favorite slaw by far. I typically do not like cole slaw, but this one was THE BEST I have ever tasted. The regular and sweet potato fries were both yummy.
