Overall, it wouldn't be a major hangout for me being almost a little too bro-ish. But hey, when I'm looking for some nice aged wine (wink wink suga mommas!) Came here over a year ago, and again last night, and had a good time both times. I like how the place is spacious with 2 big bars with quick service. The place gets packed early, so definitely get there by 10 to find parking. The 80's cover band is awesome, they rock it! I had a great time dancing with my friends and boyfriend. When the band took a break, the bar played good dance music to keep us entertained. It definitely gets HOT in there, but they brought out two huge industrial fans to cool off the dance floor. We ended up just plopping ourselves in front of them for most the night..lol. If you are in Long Beach, I would definitely come check out this place on a Thursday or Friday night when the 80's band is there. It's also good if you want a semi-early night because the band stops playing at 12:30. Oh, and they lead singer has an amazingly good voice and is HOT and sexy! read more

We've been here a few times to see Knyght Ryder, love them! They're totally awesome! The bartenders are always attentive, I've never had the food here but it looks good! One day we'll come for dinner, especially since they always seem to be running a Groupon or Living Social deal. Overall, this is a fun place to come and hang out and have some drinks. read more

As I have never been there to eat, this review pertains to the bar aspect only. Now, a lot of people I know bag on this place sometimes, but I have had a lot of good times there. Yes sometimes bar service can suck, yes it's the same crappy music they play at every other club that has a dance floor, yes the bathroom floor will be flooded with urine just like every other club that has high traffic and no, I don't know why, I just have a good time here. It is dark so my bald spot is not as visible as it would be under unwanted and more scrutinizing light so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, there is a lot of space here, so even when it is crowded there is still room to actually inhale a full breath of air without making someone spill their drink down the back of the person in front of them. Also, there is no cover which is always a plus. Every time I have gone to Gaslamp it is at least fairly busy and never with a shortage of great looking girls. However, I don't find this place to be a very conducive environment for approaching them. More than anything I am inclined to believe that this is just an excuse I have come up with to justify why I never leave this bar with any girls (who am I kidding, or any other bar, for that matter). It seems much more likely that my unimpressive public demeanor is at fault rather that the "non-conducive" nature of the atmosphere. Yes, sadly for my friends and I (not for the girls that avoided a night of awkward disappointment and a morning faced with a revaluation of drinking and general self worth) the night will end with the same people we showed up with in the cab, maybe minus one friend who happened to be in the bathroom as we left. Too busy complaining about how "I just can't talk to girls in that place" we will leave and he, also looking at ending the night solo, yet feeling delightfully refreshed and chipper after a much needed trip to the urinal, will stumble out only to find that the lights have been turned on and his lackey friends are no where to be seen. How did this review turn into a self deprecating evaluation of my social inadequacies? Nevertheless, Gaslamp is a lot of fun and if you end up having a bad time 2nd street is just a short cab ride away. read more

I don't get all of the hate for the Gaslamp on Yelp. I happen to really like the place and I've enjoyed good service, good food, and good music every single time I've gone. Once for dinner & drinks, once for Metal Jam 2013, and once for their inaugural Sunday brunch, if you must know! I will say that outside of their brunch, the menu is kind of your typical bar food. Prepared well, but still close to what you would expect from any other bar with live music. However, their Sunday blues brunch should and hopefully will push them ahead of the pack. First off, the food and menu were excellent! I ordered their chicken fried steak (a treat!) with a breakfast shot and a bowl of fruit on the side. The steak was cooked perfectly, nice and crispy on the outside but tender inside, and was covered in just the right amount of sausage gravy. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. What was really remarkable was the breakfast shot. The combination of orange juice, bacon-infused simple syrup, butterscotch schnapps, and maple whiskey sounds absolutely hideous, but it was fantastic, well worth trying again! Second, if the performers are as good as they were today, I'd be tempted back every Sunday! The main act was 2000 Lbs of Blues, but they unfortunately didn't have an opportunity to play while I was there. Instead, we were all treated to Taryn Donath and Ron Felton, who were amazing! Although there wasn't much of a crowd today, I hope they come back and play again with the same sense of fun and joy! I love it here, and I will be back! However, I have one final thought for other reviewers: Treat servers and waitstaff with politeness, patience, and respect and you'll almost always receive the same in return. read more

Not sure about the gaslamp. I had been trying to check it out for a while and when I saw they had a comedy night I thought, "what do I have to lose?" The food was general bar-fare and the place is set-up for bands, shows, etc. The comedy was really bad. The host was ok, but I don't know where they dug up the guys that performed. Unprepared, looking for laughs just by dropping an F bomb, just not good. We go to a lot of comedy clubs and I'm open minded, but I'm hoping that I just went on a bad night. I may try it again, but I am a bit hesitant. read more

Great place! Live music and the atmosphere is awesome!!! BUT... Food was mediocre. For appetizer we ordered the calamari....not good. I got the trio sliders and asked for it medium well. When I got my dish it was well done and they were very very small sliders. Wouldn't recommend it. Gaslamp burger was an average burger & the pasta wasn't great. Food is definitely overpriced for what you get. Drinks are good though. Hostess was very sweet!!! Waitress was good but not the best, she may have been the only waitress. read more

Well, where do I start...? I went out of my way to join yelp so that I could write this review.... I brought my girlfriend here with a Groupon that I purchased recently and I am surprisingly dissatisfied. Although our server was very friendly and on top of her game, that was the highlight of our trip to the Gaslamp. The interior looks as if it was decorated by someone in the midst of a coke binge. The whole place is painted top to bottom with dark red and black paint (aside from the tacky wall paper in the entry way) and lighted with obnoxious red lighting that was blasted on us and our neighboring table. As for the food..... My girlfriend got the beef short ribs which were braised and presented well but lacking big time in the seasoning department. I ordered the mushroom Swiss bacon burger with parmesan fries and, not having eaten all day because of work and school, was rather anxiously awaiting my food. When it arrived, the dish looked pretty good so I dug in. The fries were cold, stale and overall bad. The burger (which I ordered medium) was salty, cooked beyond well done, and the bun was burnt. A burger is a very difficult thing to mess up and even the worst of my classmates in culinary school could do better, but I was honestly too tired and hungry to mess around with sending it back. Being in the food service industry I understand that buns get burnt but its unacceptable to put one out to a guest. I think it's needless to say that I won't be returning to the Gaslamp. read more

I have lived in Long Beach my whole life and have pretty much been to every bar or restaurant worth going to. In regards to the Gaslamp, not only is it a fun place for dining, watching sporting events, having any kind of party or just letting loose, it is spacious, has an outdoor patio with nice furniture, a comfortable setting and the owners and their staff are incredible. Personally, I love their food......their homemade chips and salsa and guacomole are bomb to start, or the artichoke dip with again the homemade chips..even bomber! The Gaslamp Signature salad is my favorite salad....and their steaks, pizzas and burgers are very tasty. And what better way to accompany dinner than with a tall boy PBR for $5! Not to mention their weekly food and drink specials and happy hour.....and when it's not a special the prices are just like other places nothing out of the ordinary. I had my birthday party there this year...hands down the best birthday of my life. With a table on stage and balloons around, my friends and I danced the night away and had so much fun. Yes there is a line sometimes..and it can be long....but what does that say...people are willing to wait to get in because it is worth it. People who hate on the Gaslamp are usually the ones who do something wrong or think they are invincible.....some people don't realize that rules are rules (like in any establishment) and if you don't want to follow them then don't come and you wont be missed...plenty of other good people can come have a drink and act appropriately. I also appreciate the security there because they make me feel safe and if people act the fool then they make them leave! Do I sound like a Gaslamp regular? Well I am and I have nothing but good things to say about that place....so come during the week and watch a ball game and have dinner or come on the weekend and party like a rockstar! After driving by this place on several occasions, I finally had a reason to go. A friend of mine was playing a small gig there and I wanted to go and show my support. Upon arrival we're asked for our ID's so we can get bracelets to order drinks...fair enough. Then we pretty much get to go and sit wherever we'd like. We hit up the bar first and I asked what they had on tap...the guy looks around, NO TAPS! Uh, what? You're a bar. So I order a Fat Tire out of a bottle and the mister orders a Guinness out of a can. 10 bucks for that? Really? Anyway, we go and get set up in our cozy little booth on the end, a perfect view of the place. We decided to order some food, so we waited...and waited...and waited, and finally the server showed up with a menu, thanks! We ordered a pizza and the irish nachos. Most places can't screw up a pizza, so that wasn't too bad. Let's get to those irish nachos though...fried up ore ida fries with VELVEETA CHEESE. Needless to say I won't be going back. 11 bucks for some gross fries with velveeta on them. No thanks. read more

So I had a groupon here so we had dinner there on Tuesday night. The tone of the place was set when we walked in. We were not able to sit on the patio, first bummer. They were having comedy night there and it appeared they wanted everyone to sit close to the stage to appear that there was an audience. As for food, we decided to have burgers and for sides we selected brussels sprouts which were on the specials for the day. We also had sweet potato fries. The burgers were good, the brussels were over cooked and soggy. The sweet potato fries were mushy. I won't be back again. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

This place SUCKS! The food was horrible and I mean the steak was like rubber. I had arrived for a friends B-day party and we waited for i don't know how long for a drink. It was pricey I could go on. I remember when this place was Live Bait "it sucked then too but not as bad" We arrived at around 7 or so and I guess they turn this place into a club after 8ish. So I will not go through the details of the horrible dinner and Luke warm over priced beer "selection sucks too" but as I left the table to use the bathroom, the absurd security guard flashed me in the face with his flashlight and said I will be asked to leave because I was wearing Converse. Ha ha what a joke the security have some serious attitude problems. I am certainly NOT the club type and would pity anyone who trys this place out. I experienced the Gaslamp for the first time last night. It was a Wednesday and I was there to see my friends' 80s karaoke band, Mr. Mister Miyagi, so I think I'd need to go on a Friday or Saturday night to get a real taste of the atmosphere and the crowd. Pretty much everyone there last night seemed to know someone in my friends' band, so I can't say that it was an accurate representation of the usual crowd. I really liked the chandeliers, sconces, and other lights that are hanging throught the bar, as well as the two large, wooden, oval-shaped bars in the center of the room. I also noticed an extremely long table in the dining area that had two CRAZY tall chairs at each head of the table. I wish I had a picture of them because my description won't do them justice--they looked very royal and majestic. Other reviewers claim that the drinks are overpriced--I paid $5 a pop for Amstel Light, which is pretty average for a more "upscale" bar. I don't know how much cocktails go for here, though, so I can't comment on that. One thing I learned at the end of the night kind of turned me off to the place--my friend Krista had been drinking water while we were there and when she finished it and went to put the empty glass on the bar, she noticed a very large dead spider squashed up against the side of the glass...ON THE INSIDE. Came here for the second time tonight. The food presentation looks good, but looks can be deceiving because the food is not good at all. My first visit, I had a bbq burger. I didn't like it and I thought maybe because the patty was too thick. Then tonight, I decided to come back because they show UFC fights without a cover charge (which is a pro). However, the con is that the seating arrangements were terrible. I feel they could have been more strategic in setting up the tables. Tonight, we had blackened chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich was too salty and it had too much pepper. The chicken sandwich was pretty bland. Lastly, the bread for both sandwiches were too thick and hard. The good thing is that I got a free cheesecake from yelp check in, but even the cheesecake didn't taste good. read more

I will start off by saying that the service was great - our waitress was very tentative and friendly, and the bloody mary was good, but other than that, the food was bad and overpriced as well.(sandwiches and sides are a la carte) and it was just too loud to carry a conversation. If you are into that type of music (honky, country, blues, rock, etc) and going for a drink to listen to the music I suppose it's your type of venue, but otherwise it was too loud and uncomfortable. I went on a Saturday night for a friend's bday/going away party. I got there at 7 for dinner and the place is empty. There were one bartender, and he did not know how to make a mojito. We finally got seated for dinner, and ordered a shrimp appetizer and entrees. I got the seared ahi tuna, and my friends for the Atlantic salmon, the Seared Ahi Salad, and the Sicilian Pizza. Nothing stuck out in my mind at all. The seared ahi was tasteless, and the other entrees were just simple. No one finished their entrees and got a to-go box...which i didn't even take when I left. The interior layout is huge and spacious. I love the furniture. They have these huge wooden tables with 2 HUGE chairs fit for a king ... or me. Music was good, but tonight was the top 40 Hits I think. People started to fill the place around 9-10, but since I was only there for dinner, I didn't see the party side of the restaurant. A lot of locals frequent the place, so if I come back, I'd probably arrive later for the music and dancing...as it looks more like a club scene than restaurant. read more

My bf and I had dinner here on a Tuesday since we had a Groupon. The Groupon included salads and a dessert to share, as well as the flat iron steak entree for the the each of us, and a bottle of wine. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation at 8. The restaurant was dark, but the decor was definitely a plus :) The restaurant seemed to be about 50% full. There was one party ahead of us at the hostess table, and so we waited....and waited...and waited some more. A few waitresses passed by, but did not stop to say anything to any of us (i.e. the hostess will be right with you). After about waiting 5 minutes, someone finally shows up to seat us. As we're seated, we let the hostess know that we had the Groupon deal to which she informed us that they had "ran out of flat iron steaks". ....Okay... But she informed us that we could pick any appetizers or entrees that would be equivalent in price to the two flat iron entrees. We were really looking forward to the steaks, but at this point what can we do? Calamari: Definitely one of my favorites of the entire meal. It is different from your usual calamari since they mix it with some cabbage and sweet sauce. The calamari pieces also tasted like real calamari instead of the typical, heavily breaded kind. It also came with a wasabi-type dipping sauce. Filet Mignon Skewers: 3 skewers with 3 pieces on each. The meat was dry and tough, and I was trying to use as much as the sauce they had at the bottom of the plate as possible to make it more edible. FIrecracker Shrimp: A couple of average sized shrimp in a little black pot served with a spicy, creamy sauce. Nothing too extravagant or impressive. I just expected something more since it was called Firecracker Shrimp. Trio of Sliders: Bacon and cheddar, Swiss and Onion, and Pulled Pork. Overall average tasting sliders. Again, nothing too extravagant, but at least the beef patties were thick. Served with supposedly parmesan truffle fries but definitely didn't taste like it. Parmesan cheese was sprinkled on top of the fries which wasn't even melted. PB and J Monte Cristo: Such a unique dessert! Basically looks like a PB and J sandwich grilled topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed the dessert, but it was a little burned. Overall service was SLOW during the entire meal. We had multiple "servers" who brought us our entrees and informed us that there was a sudden rush of people (since it was comedy night) so the kitchen was backed up. The boyfriend commented that if it wasn't for the comedy show that night, we probably would have rated this place 2 stars. read more

We went to see Spirit of Zeppelin and Journey's last night. What a blast! There are TV's all around the place as if it were a sports bar, however, they had Ratt, Van Halen, Motley Crew, Iron Maiden, etc videos playing! HA! Ohhhhhhhh the hair back then! The bands were really great. Both bands had excellent musicians and were so much fun! Nailed it! We specifically went to see SOZ and they kicked my ass. They are no joke. We met Bill Lanham and I met Frank Simes young boy. He was right up in front with me. Rad. Older crowd (the 80's was over 20 years ago) and the place filled up. Also, it was free to get in before 9:00pm. AWESOME! The space is huge and smells clean, the drinks were good and we will be going back again for sure. read more

Came here for a Dwele concert. Great time. Only issues I have with this place are the following: VIP section is not truly VIP or secure . We had patrons trying to walk between my table and myself. The nerve of some people. I had to say no! The braised short ribs tasted old and were definitely dry. I should have went with the burgers. They added the gratuity in automatically on a table of 2. Really??? You lost your F-ing mind! Not happy with crap like that. Do not dictate what I am suppose to pay on tips. Because of that, I honored the 11+ dollar tip, but I was going to give 20 (bad move Gaslamp!) I ordered Jameson on the rocks so I cannot tell you how their cocktails were (example: are they strong, mixed well, etc) Dwele was great! But please limit the number of opening acts. The last act right before Dwele came on stage was the best and they will hopefully go far! read more

I loved the Knight Ryders (80s/90s cover band), but I'm writing because the seared ahi salad with sesame dressing was so perfect. I also had my roommate's macaroni and cheese; it was definitely gourmet! The only reason the place doesn't get 5 stars is because, after reserving and decorating 3 tables, the waitstaff gave one of our tables to another group. That group ate the birthday cupcakes that one of our group had brought. We brought this up to the waitstaff, but the other group said that they were their's. Even though we had a receipt for them. And a party. I thought that was weak. But the food and band were awesome! read more

Awesome setup to either dance it up with your buds and new people you meet out there OR sit back on the sidelines and watch the shenanigans take place. Downsides: Bathroom line for girls is out of hand. Mixed drinks are weak, stick to beer. Upsides: 360-bar, sweet dance floor/stage/lounge feel AND huge outside area. The customer service was great. The ladies were attentive & provided a good vibe. However, as the night wore on the attention was less and less. It could have been the loud music or the increasing number of people who came in. My major complaint is about how loud it was the point where people have to scream their drink orders to the bartender. I think I might have been given the wrong beer, but I just wanted a drink by that point. They need to fix that issue ! Also, put in panel dividers between the urinals. We visited the Gaslamp because of a fundraiser being held to benefit Hearts for Hounds "Save the Chi-Chi's" event. I had never been to the Gaslamp in the entire 6 years that I have lived in Long Beach. I'd never heard anything about it but that it was now under new ownership. I was pleased by what I saw when I entered the front doors. It is a huge, open venue with a stage for live entertainment, booth tables lining the walls, and 2 bars in the middle. We tried to get some drinks at the bar, but were having difficulty. We were met by a very friendly man named Mike. He apologized for the wait and offered to get our drinks for us. We chose a booth to the left as you walk in, and he said that he'd bring them right to us. Turns out he is one of the partners and was on the floor with his sleeves rolled up making sure things were moving along. The fund raiser had drawn far more people than anticipated, so he was doing what any good barkeep should do - work! Their menu was abbreviated for the event, but it was tasty and reasonable. Can you say Parmesan french fries with truffle oil??? Yum!!!! The bacon and cheddar macaroni and cheese is decadent as well. Their prices are right in line with a moderate restaurant, but this is gourmet quality food. We will be back soon to enjoy the 80's DJ or some live music, but especially for another helping of the Parmesan french fries with truffle oil! read more

Fine place to hangout on a Friday night! The reviews on Yelp convinced me to check out this restaurant and bar that I have driven by for years not knowing what a treat I was missing. I called in a reservation for dinner so I could secure a table for the live 80's rock tribute band that came on at 10:15 PM. So I got a table for 8 pm. I got there and was greeted by a cute hostess that seated me close to the stage and the table had a red card with my name printed on it on the table! Wow, I told the very cute waitress (Dominique) that I was already impressed with the service before I ordered and would be back! After ordering the "Southwestern Chicken egg rolls" at Dominique's suggestion, I settled back into this cozy little corner and waited for the next surprise. I had a few glasses of white wine throughout the night and enjoyed the seared Ahi salad as well as the tomato soup that was all fine grade dinning. The place was reported to have "Cougars" about, so that was another reason I came to check it out here. Well to my surprise, the hostess seated 5 of the finest looking babes right next to my table, and they were very friendly. The ringleader came over to my table and asked me (she was getting too close to me when she asked) to take a pic of her group, which I was honored to do, I told her. After a few attempts on getting the camera to work right, I got them a shot they liked. In the process of getting the camera to frame the group (low light problems because it was so romantically dark in there) she invited me to get in on the group pic while she got the zoom setting just right. So I was in the group pic shot with these 4 hot babes! Things were sure starting out right it seemed. Then I gave the ringleader my busines card when she said she was going to post the pics on Facebook. This way I could get a copy of my pic and maybe she would call so I would have her number, I'm thinking to myself. Later while watching these girls from 6 feet away I noticed they were all wearing wedding rings, so I was being stalked by Cougars after all! Well then, the band came on and brought down the house with choice tunes! It was a night to remember and I plan on coming back next friday!
