Between the juicy slices of mango, crispy wontons strips, red pepper, tangy miso dressing and more... I was craving each bite one after the other with the quickness! Haha! Enchanting Saturday evening at Tantalum. The coastal drive with a Full Moon was outstanding. Donnie Savage and the LA Crush performed sultry hits. The vibe and ambiance was stellar. The Scottish Salmon was served on a delicious bed of sweet potato hash and crispy pancetta, soy bean, wild mushroom, and sweet mustard sauce. Paired well with DAOU Sauvignon Blanc. Sofia was a very attentive and kind server and Joe, the manager, worked tirelessly to make sure everybody was satisfied and enjoying themselves. My only pet peeve were the cackling women seated above me who drank too much and were not aware they were a nuisance. We had a fun time here. Great atmosphere for a weekend dinner, absolutely. Reminded me of a similar restaurant that recently closed in LA Westfield century city Mall called Rock Sugar. Very similar interior and vibes overall.. I have a big problem with Tantalum's kitchen though. They're trying to aim for a higher tier restaurant, but the kitchen is just is not at that good a level. All friends in my party, myself included, complained about the same issue. The chef here does not know how to cook the proteins properly. Our table had steak, scallops, fish. Tantalum is located right on the waterfront in Long Beach! The restaurant is in the Marina Pacifica shopping plaza, so there's a decent amount of parking. The lot also has an underground parking structure for additional parking. I came here for an event, and we were led to a private banquet room. It was a little warm inside, but we had a nice view of the water and seeing stand up paddle boarders/kayakers go by. Our table was provided with some shared appetizers including the Brunch-etta, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Heirloom Tomato Salad. The Brunch-etta had mixed berries, mascarpone cheese, and honey drizzle on sourdough crostinis. The Chicken Lettuce Wraps came with crushed peanuts, carrots, cilantro, and butter lettuce cups with two dipping sauces. It was served deconstructed as a build-your-own style. The Heirloom Tomato Salad had fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, Thai basil, garlic, and balsamic, topped with microgreens. Nice and refreshing! For my entree, I got the Asian Chicken Greens Salad that came with baby greens, mango, cucumber, red pepper, shaved onion, crispy wonton, and a miso dressing. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and the salad had very little dressing. I also tried some of the Kobe Brunch Burger. This was much better than the salad in my opinion. It had butter lettuce, fontina cheese, avocado, tobacco onions, garlic aioli, fried egg, and apple bacon on a brioche bun with a side of herbed fries. Definitely a heartier dish! For dessert, I had the Pavlova Duo. It comes with two baked meringues, coconut and mango sorbet, passionfruit and some other berry sauce drizzle, and fresh strawberries and blackberries. This restaurant in located in the Marina Pacifica plaza beside Acapulco and Nordstrom. Plenty of free parking space even on a weekend. We went without reservations, they were fully booked on a Saturday night but we were able to sit at the bar area. Their bar has plenty of seating which is facing the marina. Food selection is decent but not much options to choose from. I hope they add more items on the menu. In addition, I would say that their prices are pretty high. I have been to Tantalum in LBC many times, but its been a while. I can't believe I haven't reviewed it until now. The most recent visit was to meet some biz associates to enjoy entrees & apps. We shared calamari ($24), mussels ($23), fried rice ($30), fries ($7), and a couple of 18 oz bone-in ribeyes ($68/each) [sorry, not all items puctured]. My crew of five (including me), liked the calamari and steak & fries. The calamari was tender, the steaks were grilled medium rare, and the fries were GBD. However, the shrimp in the rice and the mussels were not fresh. Luckily, no one got sick later. Regarding the ambiance, its spacious in here. However, the amount of people seemed light on a Fri night around 6-7 pm. Our waiter Jason and the rest of the team were super nice & attentive. We received fresh plates and steak knives (we ordered a second steak later during the meal). I'd return for a good time w/ a large group. If my experience ended there, this would have easily been a five star visit. Unfortunately things went downhill. We've received a writer who had the most nonchalant cold demeanor I've encountered by White staff in a long time. I feel like he would be a better fit at a more high-end pretentious restaurant. He definitely didn't make me feel comfortable or valued. The food was good but not impressive, I'm afraid. It didn't taste authentic or unique. We ordered the ceviche, Miso caramelized mahi-mahi, and yakiniku calamari. The ladder was easily the best dish of the bunch, but it also reminds me of orange chicken squid. I love the flavor and the texture though! I plan to return for happy hour to see if I can appreciate the food more when I don't have to pay full price. Honestly this place gets 5 stars for location and music alone. And there food is really very tastey. From oysters to Buddha rice, the reviews are proof that it's all savory. I've been coming here for years and the establishment is starting to falter due to service. The tips must be good judging by the average cost per table, so I'm not sure why the service is becoming soo bad. It is slow, no bussing, and not very inviting. Basically a bunch of young workers stand around while you try to grab there attention. I will continue to dine here as it has an amazing date night ambience, great food, water front location, and decent drinks. We recently visited to celebrate a birthday, and while the ambiance and waterfront views are absolutely gorgeous, the overall evening fell flat for us. Our main letdown was the service rhythm. After the host seated us and brought us water, we sat for at least 10 minutes and no one greeted us. I finally flagged a server down and then our server came over. When the server did arrive, they thanked us for waiting but didn't really offer an apology for the delay, and the service for the rest of the night just felt very basic, impersonal, and transactional. The host had noted the birthday at check-in, but it wasn't mentioned again by our server, which was a little disappointing for a celebration. I have worked in the service industry and even when I waitressed at a pub, we were trained to greet tables within two minutes, even if just to pop in to say hello and tell them we'd be right over. As for the food and drinks, everything was decent but didn't quite hit that standout mark we were hoping for at their price point. The fried brie with peach chutney was tasty, but just a standard good appetizer, didn't have enough chutney on top, and was served with what tasted like stale bread pieces. I was really excited to try the famous miso Mahi Mahi, and while there was nothing overtly wrong with it, it was just okay; the potatoes paired with it felt like a choice that was too heavy for the flavor of mahi mahi and made the dish feel one-note. My husband got the burger and was very underwhelmed and said he's had better burgers at much more affordable venues. My Tahitian cocktail was just okay, though my husband really loved a virgin coconut drink he ordered. I can't remember the exact name, but it was delicious. It's such a beautiful space, but after paying the $150 bill + tip, we left feeling like we should have chosen somewhere else to have celebrated. It seems they rely too heavily on their prime location and aesthetic rather than focusing on attentive service and memorable food. After sharing this in a local food group I learned that pretty much everyone who commented feels this way now about Tantalum. I guess there is new management and there are also a lot of stories of poor management, high server turnover and abuse of servers by the chef, so I will definitely not go there again. read more

The Asian Pear is strong, very spirit forward but you get that forgot of pear. The Bali Dream gives you a hint of banana and coconut while the Mai Tai was very good. For food, we started with the beef & chips and the calamari. The calamari comes glazed topped with sesame seeds and toasted cashews. Very good. The beef and chips is short rib sitting on a bed of duck fat fries with a white truffle cheddar sauce. You can never go wrong with duck fat fries and the short rib was cooked well. For entrees, we tried a few items. The scallops were decent though they did seen slightly overcooked. The Ulu Watu is udon noodles with sliced filet. Meat was cooked well but it felt like something was missing with the dish to really bring it all together. The bearded sorry rub was cooked well and it comes with two eggs cooked the style of your coffee. The Kobe brunch Burger is loaded with apple bacon, avocado, egg, fontina cheese and garlic aioli. I've been noticing this restaurant tucked away in the corner and decided to give it a try. The ambience in the dining area leading out to outside seating is aesthetically pleasing. we were seated immediately. Our waitress came up right away and we placed our orders. So it's my mom's favorite restaurant (she loves the mai tai & the steak with mushrooms and mashers). She wanted to celebrate her bday and have a dinner here with about 20-25 people. Making reservations was easier via email (found on the website). Theres a couple of managers or event personnel who help with that (Bri & Paige). Both are capable and have the know how. (The restaurant does require a deposit depending on menu & guest amount) I feel like they should have options to sit outside with guests for a party ** and also have multiple waiters or the restaurants BEST available waiter who has curtesy , patience and respect for guests. (-2 stars ) I'm not sure how or if he greeted the previous guests but her was very impolite and worried about a separate table which I made sure to clear up with the hostess BEFORE I came to sit down. He made sure to say "we will still be seating people here, just so you know" - no "hi, hello" or "can I get you water?" Didn't like that. At all. I feel like that was him taking advantage of the included gratuity. The ambiance was less impressive than I thought. I had the pad thai dish not to mention the shrimp are ridiculously small and again not good the few that were in the dish, the other dishes were the buhdda rice and I didn't personally eat that so I can't say. Nothing beats a great lunch with a view choosing this spot was absolutely a great choice from the food to the customer service to the ambience. Everything was 10 out of 10 my waitress was so sweet so nice and very helpful when it came to choosing what to pick off the menu with this being my first time I ordered their half dozen of oysters, which I believe was about $24 a little bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. The oysters was a nice size and very fresh tasting definitely will order them again then I also got their chicken lettuce wraps, which was too absolutely die for the crunchy with the savory taste was just everything and lately I've been in my lemon drop era so I asked him if they were able to make a pair lemon drop and it came out absolutely amazing. As a long time patron, I had to give them another chance after the bloodbath of mothers day. It was a Monday, so probably not a fair comparison, but service was excellent and so was most of the food. We overtipped, to probably compensate for our last visit. However, the new kitchen manager has clearly changed the calamari (10/10 before, 3/10 now, to the point I felt embarrassed that I'd waxed poetic about it to my out of town guests, who didn't have more than a few pieces, and the ones I ate were just to kind of toe a line), and this is pedantic, but sesame buns for the sliders was a weird choice. So they're no longer on my shitlist, but I do think I'm going to need to try different go-tos. I'm almost scared to try the tuna tartare (my other go to) after the change in the calamari and sliders. I really so desperately urge management to bring back the former chef, because the current one really seems to expending the least effort possible. And for the record, there was a "specials" slip left on our table, with one of the items noted as "sold out." On a Monday, by 5p. Something is going wrong here. My 2026 review. Went here for Valentines day. Just wanted drinks and appetizers. Open bar seating available. Sat at a table viewing the sunset. Stayed in the same spot for 3 hours. A surprised band showed up. I was impressed. They sounded very good. The ambiance was very nice. We spent the entire evening Munching on appetizers and drinking alcoholic beverages while grooving to some soul music. Overall, good place to hang out. Plenty of parking and clean restrooms. Friendly workers. Our waitress Lea that night was a hit and miss. She would take your order and disappear a long time. I understand its Valentines day but come on now, please check up on your guest. :) Once we saw her, we would have to flag her down to get more alcoholic beverages. Inconsistent service from her part. It's been a while since I've been here, and it's still such a great dinner spot. I think I've been a customer for at least 10 years. We arrived for an early sunset dinner and waited about 15 minutes for a table. We were seated outside facing the marina as requested, which was perfect. We ordered a few appetizers to share along with a cucumber drink with crushed, muddled pineapple and vodka. The food was so good and there was plenty to share. The tuna tartare was perfection, especially with the crispy wonton chips. The Kobe sliders were juicy and delicious, and the chicken wraps were another home run. Service was quick without making us feel rushed. I also appreciated the nice touch of who I believe was the manager stopping by our table to check on us. He asked how everything was, if we needed anything, and even had a little conversation with us about how beautiful and tranquil the evening was. Outside was quiet, relaxing, and felt intimate. Ahhh!!! This place is amazing especially in December! We had dinner outside and loved watching all the lit up and decorated boats pass by. It was only a little chilly out but they had plenty of heaters to keep you nice and warm. Service was great with the wait staff coming by every few passes to make sure that we were doing ok. The folks that night did a great job attending to all their tables. They also didn't let a table go with having too many empty plates. We had the calamari appetizer, steak, ahi tuna dish, and the pavlova! The calamari was certainly enough to fill you up but of course we had to keep going. This was one of my friend's favorite restaurants and so we decided to come here for lunch I was in charge of ordering appetizers for the entire group so we had lots of great options to choose from. Luckily most of us were pretty starving so we had a great option to choose from. We ordered the calamari, the brussels sprouts, the hummus, the beef and chips , and the chicken wraps. Enjoyed everything so much that we ordered extra of the chicken wraps in the calamari. For my meal, I ended up getting the ribeye sandwich, which was amazing. And then for dessert, we end up getting the press monkey, their banana pudding, and there's a last side of that was really good as well pyramid y'all are very full and The team was very nice and very hospitable. The chicken lollipop on the other hand was a bit disappointing this time. I actually came back just for this dish but it is no longer the same. This time the potatoes underneath were over drenched in sauce. The chicken pieces were also much smaller than before. While still good, just not as good as before. We didn't want the bigger portions nor $30+ prices so we left. Just wish they had informed us before they seated us - and when we left the server, hostess and manager said nothing to us as we walked past. What a terrible experience!!!!!yes we came on Mother's Day but I also made a reservation at 2pm We finally got seated around 2:20 .... No one came over for 15 minutes to offer water or even a "hello" I asked the hostess for our server .... He finally came at 2:40 and apologized and then proceeded to tell us it would be an hour before we got food once we placed our order.... Tantalum is a place to go with friends or a date! We sat at the bar because there's a beautiful view! It was Cinco de Mayo and taco Tuesday! I ordered the short rib tacos, which were mouthwatering delicious! The best part was they were three for $10! I ordered a strawberry virgin Mojito, which was perfect! The bartender asked if I was celebrating anything and I told him I was celebrating my birthday! A lot of their desserts were full of gluten so he brought me fruit with vanilla ice cream!
