My wife and I recently had lunch at Gaston's and loved everything. From the service to the classic view of the river to the perfectly prepared food. It was a great experience. We had a couple of excellent bloody Mary's to start and followed with a wonderful shrimp dish and blackened chicken taco salad. Both were fantastic. We finished with a vanilla crème brûlée. Maybe the best I've ever had. Although the prices were a little steep they definitely deliver at Gaston's. We'll definitely return. read more

Very pricey and everything is à la cart unlike other fishing resorts we've been to where meals are included in a package. They might consider this in the future. The restaurant is nice with great views and the food was decent, but not great. The breakfast was underwhelming and served buffet style...very bland and barely warm. I'd skip the breakfast and make your own. The fishing was good and with the guides - we did two days. Their top guide is a little arrogant, but knows how to find the trout and will drift fish rather than anchor, which was nice. Would I return? Probably. However, I'd make most of my meals in the cabin and just do a dinner in the restaurant. One thing that's nice is they will cook your catch in the restaurant and prepare to your specifications. read more

Heroes in the gift shop!! I want to give a huge shout-out to the amazing ladies in the gift shop by the docks. I wasn't even a customer--just a guy who somehow ended up with two prongs from a treble hook buried deep in the back of my left arm. There was no way I was getting it out myself. I went in to see if they had any alcohol wipes I could buy, and instead they jumped right into action. One of them, a nurse, grabbed her toolkit and skillfully took care of the problem on the spot. They wouldn't take a dime for their help--not even a tip--and spared me a trip to the hospital. Thank you, Stacey, Megan, Megan, and Tracy (and my apologies if I missed anyone). We didn't stay at the resort but the restaurant was absolutely wonderful. We came dressed casual, from being out fishing all day and the host gave us his personal favorite table. The views were breathtaking and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend the trout poppers!! My whole family thoroughly enjoyed dinner here and we look forward to going back. read more

Came to the area for a brief vacation and as decided to stop in for supper. While we were waiting for the guests in front of us to be seated, it hit me that we might need a reservation, but the dining area was mostly empty, so I didn't think it would be a problem. It wasn't this evening despite other reviews, but it could also have been that they had just reopened that day after being closed for several days due to storm damage in the area. We were greeted by a friendly host who took us to a table by the window with a terrific view of the river which made the evening very enjoyable. Began the evening with the Smoked Trout Poppers which were tasty even though I'm not really a fan of jalapeno poppers. I ordered the Shrimp Burrito which is essentially a po boy in a soft tortilla shell. I really enjoyed the meal, and the portions were ample. I chose fries as the side. Ended the meal with a brownie melt which was the standout of the meal for me. Elizabeth was the server, and she was exceptional. Very friendly and answered all the my questions about the menu. Loved the ambiance in the building along with the view. Food was good but just a bit overpriced for the type of food being served in my opinion. read more

We go to Gaston's every time we camp at Bill Shoals - White River State Park. The restaurant overlooks the White River. The multiple hummingbird feeders and squirrel feeders have constant activity. The decor is a collectors dream of old bikes, boat motors and other items too numerous to mention. The salad "boat" adds to the decor. Menu has something that will please everyone. I'm partial to the salmon and shrimp dishes. If you're starved go for the grilled pork chops. Bet you'll have a to go bag! Enjoy! read more

First off, the waiter was really good. Attentive without being intrusive... The decor in this place is AWESOME. Like a hoarder married an interior designer? Way cool. The food was great too. I got a Bourbon Amaretto Smash and hubs and I shared the Smoked Trout Poppers. Different and well worth trying! We also split the Louisiana Shrimp Burrito with fries. Went for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner after the fishing guide recommended it. The view is really lovely from the dining room. The seated us at the far left end of the restaurant. What I thought was puzzling was the server brought out extra ice tea and just dropped off two glasses at the table, without asking. We had planned on ordering a glass of wine. She was nowhere to be found. Another person delivered the trout poppers where were tasty. About thirty minutes later our entrees arrived. The sole special tempura-like breading was soggy. The waitress brought white gravy for the mashed potatoes that was a very strange combo with the sole. Literally 2 slices of squash was the vegetable side. $34! Not worth it. My salmon linguini was really lacking. The salmon tasted old and it was very dry. The sauce was watery and very low quality linguini, right off the supermarket shelf. Not worth the price! We told our waitress that we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Her comment was, "nice." Nothing else. As other guests arrived, they crammed everyone down in to our area. A pilot and his guest had flown in on the adjacent air strip and boy were they loud! I could not even hear my husband speak over their loud discussion of airplane parts, and the one guy complaining that he had ordered a chef salad and the same waitress had only given him an empty plate. In all, $113 and I ended up walking out while my husband was finishing his meal because the entire meal give me a headache and I just wanted some peace and quiet. But, no. Soon as I sat down outside, a guy with a leaf blower came by and I couldn't even achieve a silent moment to enjoy there either. We drove an hour to dine at Gaston's. It was a big disappointment. Many magazine articles from the 80's-90's with excellent reviews, some saying it was the most romantic dining spot in the area. Maybe it was then. I walked into the large gift shop filled with t-shirts and caps. A restaurant employee was complaining that they had only had three reservations on Saturday. I returned inside the restaurant to wait for my husband. What I had hoped would be a romantic, 10th anniversary celebration was a waste of time and money. Beautiful spot on the river. Horrible service, poor food quality and nobody cares. read more

This was our first time ever visiting Arkansas.. drove an hour just to come and eat from Missouri. The smoked trout appetizer was amazing. The grilled salmon was very good as well. The shrimp wasn't too bad I just prefer them fried( wanted to try something different tho) the whole little resort is kind of a Sweet set up right off the river. The inside is decorated very cool as well lot of old things, the view tho that was probably the best part eating supper looking out over the river watching people, fish and watching wildlife and everything else... just all around very enjoyable. read more

Had a wonderful Surf and Turf dinner. The lobster was excellent and the fillet was prepared to perfection. The loaded baked potato could have cooked just a little longer. The waiter was attentive and full of excellent conversation. Gaston's is like no other. It is steeped in traditional resort dining at its best. Use to be a lot better , the building and decorations along with the view is why you still go for if you have never been, very open and lots of seating great view of river watch boats go by . Highly disappointed! Visited this restaurant during our vacation in Flippin. Saw a lot of billboards advertising the restaurant, but none mentioned reservations required. Our group walked in around 7 PM on Sunday night and we were told we couldn't be seated. The restaurant was about 1/3 full and they said reservations were required. They did not offer for us a seat in 30 minutes or an hour. They just said we couldn't seat our party without a reservation. The person at the front was not friendly at all. I moved out of Arkansas 10 years ago to Florida. Oh how I've missed trout fishing. I finally got to go back and take my 9 yr old. I absolutely love Gaston's. The staff is so nice, friendly, and accommodating. My family had a wonderful time. Our fishing guide Mike Howell was fantastic, he was so patient with my son and did a wonderful job teaching him to fish and use an open face reel. I can't wait to come back, but this time it won't be 10 yrs. read more

First time at Gaston's that I can remember (apparently, I came here w/my family when I was 10 years-old, so that gives you an idea of how long Gaston's Resort has been here). This is a review of the restaurant only. Ate Sunday brunch overlooking the White River while watching people fishing for trout. Beautiful setting. Brunch buffet included all the standard breakfast fare including eggs Benedict, biscuits & sausage gravy, breakfast casserole, etc. plus roast beef, chicken wings, full salad bar, dessert table, fried catfish, and most importantly, smoked trout! It's smoked on the premises & is delicious. What's really cool about Gaston's is there's a grass runway for small planes to land right by the restaurant. We were able to fly in from Fayetteville (usually 2.5 hour drive) in 40 min. It was neat to see other planes take off & land. There's also peacocks walking around the premises. Service was professional & friendly. Lobby area displayed trolling motors, old watches, cameras, etc. and the main dining room's ceiling held suspended bicycles. Cool place. read more
