If you're having trouble locating Gateway Cafe: enter the 4 story building. Walk past the lobby and into the outdoor courtyard. You should see a cafe by the water fountain. The building is very close to the San Jose airport and the Matrix Casino. Plenty of parking. There are some specials they have every week like sesame chicken katsu on Tuesdays and burgers on Wednesdays. Monday is always pasta. However you can also always order sandwiches off their menu! They also have salads, spring rolls, soft drinks, cookies, and more! My favorite is the veggie sandwich or the sesame chicken which comes with teriyaki sauce and a sesame slaw. Gateway Cafe is a mom and pop shop run by the same couple for the past 20+ years. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area and supporting a small business! read more

I had training at Allied Universal but arrived an hour early. I hadn't eaten anything in 24hrs and hadn't slept in 12hrs. I thought I would DIE trying to do the training unless I got something in my stomach. LO AND BEHOLD, while heading to the restroom, BAM! The market was right there and the said "OPEN!" Praise HIM!!! Had to check this hidden gem out! I went with my coworker on my lunch break. It's tucked in the courtyard of a corporate building, but you can easily go through the front lobby to find it. The place is cozy and family owned! I love how they rotate their daily specials. The service was quick and friendly, despite a decent lunch rush. My coworker and I both got the Thai Chicken Wrap. The chicken was crisp and juicy. The sauce was really good and flavorful but I think the wrapping fell apart a little, so the sauce kept dripping out the bottom. But the overall flavor was bomb! Found this place on a random yelp search, thought me and a few coworkers would come for lunch. The location is right off 101 amongst many big businesses and office buildings. This little restaurant is actually tucked in the middle of an office complex, you have to walk through the lobby and out to the courtyard to find it. Pulling up to it, you definitely think maps was wrong, but it is not. The place itself is small, has a very comforting atmosphere and the owners look like they put a lot of care into what they do. They have a regular cafe menu where you can get a number of sandwiches, salads, etc. and they also have a rotating daily special menu that serves something new and exciting each day. Mind you, everything they serve seemed to be under $10, with the lunch chef special at like $11 being the most expensive thing on the menu. My coworkers and I went for the friday philly cheese steak sandwich. I will say, although the $9.75 price for the philly cheese steak was reasonable, it was on the smaller end. I ended up getting a bag of chips to accompany it which completed the meal. So for $12 i had lunch which isn't unreasonable at all. It would be nice of the sandwich came with some fries or a side salad or something but it wasn't a big deal. The food itself was very flavorful, simple and piping hot. It was prepared right in front of us, and it was served hot. We barely beat the lunch rush, tons of people poured in for lunch after us and the owners were well equipped and organized to take it on. I have been going to this cafe for over 10 years and it still never disappoints! I like that they have different lunch specials weekly because I'm able to try different things :) The Thai chicken wraps and their Korean dishes are always really good. I saw their daughters post on Twitter and thought the weeks special menu looked good and worth a try. I got the Thursday lunch special which was the Teriyaki chicken over white rice and potstickers. It's was DELICIOUS. I thought it was plenty of food and it was cheap. I also added a small miso soup which was also really good. The cafe was really clean and had necessary COVID safety measures. This has nothing to do with the food and definitely not an issue but their location is a bit hidden. It's within business offices in a quiet courtyard. I've come here one or two times many years ago, but I just recently rediscovered it seeing that they've reopened after being closed for a whole year due to Covid. We got the Sesame Chicken over rice and the Thai Chicken Wrap. They were both so good, but the spicy peanut sauce in the Thai Chicken Wrap has me obsessed! Both dishes are made with the same fried chicken cutlets, but they didn't feel redundant with each having their own sauce (which the owner Amy says are all made from scratch by her), and the chicken was crispy and not dry at all. Not to mention the portions were huge (look at alll that chicken); I was shocked as I saw them continue to chop more and more chicken to put in the box/wrap haha. I don't remember the price of each item, but I paid less than $20 for both which was such a great deal for the portion size. On top of the delicious meal we had, the owners Amy and Young were so sweet as well. They seemed so happy to be open again so I definitely plan on coming back to support. They have daily specials that change every week so I'm excited to try other dishes in the future. What's great is they now have an active Instagram page (where I initially came across them again) and they post the new daily specials every week so I can know what to expect before making the drive there. A great place for lunch. The staff is friendly and efficient. You order at the counter and bring your food to your table yourself. There are a few tables inside and some outside in the courtyard. This is a very difficult place to find, unless you have been told where it is and how to find it, or you have been here before! It is located inside of an office building across the street from the Double Tree Hotel. There is no sign on the office building to indicate that there is a cafe inside. When you enter the lobby of the office building, there is no sign, nor can you see the cafe. You have to pass through the lobby, and go out into the courtyard, then proceed across the courtyard to the far side. There you will find the cafe! This is basically a lunch sandwich place, that has changing daily specials. The food is very tasty and the prices are very reasonable. Yesterday, was my second visit and I had the daily special: Chicken Teriyaki. It was served over white rice, and had a small salad, and also included were three pieces of sushi. Greeted by a very friendly woman. I skimmed their specials and their menu and opted for the Gourmet BLT, $5.75+ tax. I waited about 4-5 minutes. I paid and put my stuff down on a table by the window. Before I had a chance to sit down, my sandwich was done. Gourmet BLT | sourdough bread, mayonnaise, fresh lettuce, perfectly cooked bacon, thinly sliced tomatoes, and a generous offering of avocado made this meal delicious and special to me. The cutest place ever! Everything is fresh and freshly made! I love the attention to detail! Quality and care is out of this world! It's hidden inside building on the first floor courtyard and has plenty of seating. The smell of the food cooking is everywhere. The staff is super friendly, prices on daily specials are ridiculously good compared to the places to eat in the area, and food is pretty fresh. If you're a regular, you can ask to be added on an email list and they will send an email out to you Sunday night. My favorite thing to eat here is the Thai Chicken Wrap, one of their weekly specials. Sliced Fried Chicken Cutlet, cabbage, and a spicy peanut sauce is wrapped in a huge spinach tortilla. You get all sort of different textures in every bite. It is super addicting. I also love the fact that they have prepacked salads in a small size and a big size. The small salad is perfect and less than $5, so when you are looking for a quick lunch to eat and not get too full or waste food, it's perfect. I'm surprised there are only a handful of reviews for Gateway Cafe! For anybody who works around Gateway Business Park by the SJC Airport, you already know the LACK of food options in the area. Each of the business buildings has a small cafe/restaurant and if you're looking for a no frills but filling lunch...Gateway Cafe is your spot! They have sandwiches/salads but the daily specials is where it's at! The items rotate (you can put yourself on an email list to receive the weeks menu) but it cost $6-and some change. It ranges from stir fry over rice, salads, monsterous wraps, or pasta. You also get two side items too which is nice. I'm a fan! Came across this place on Yelp as I was searching for a nearby place to grab lunch. I was kind of reluctant to try this place because a lot of eateries located within office buildings I have not been a fan of. BUT I was pleasantly surprised and I'm glad to have checked this place out! FOOD: I got the Thai chicken wrap. It was DELICIOUS. When I saw them preparing it I was kind of worried it was going to taste bland and that there would be more wrap than filling, but I was wrong! Big pieces of chicken, fresh veggies, and a sweet but spicy and tangy sauce smothered inside. They were very generous with the portion and it was only about $5. What a deal! SERVICE: Right when I walked through the door, I was greeted by the man behind the cash register. I know, I feel guilty about cheating on Star Cafe. Sometimes you just want some new variety. For those of us working in the airport business park for at least a year, we've done everything to death: Zeytoun, Senor Jalapeno, Bagel Street, etc. So sometimes you just want to try something new. So I was thrilled when Gateway Cafe came up on my Yelp nearby list. A building over from the one with Star Cafe, you walk through the lobby, past the courtyard, to a tiny little cafe. What I really like about this place is the daily specials for breakfast, hot lunches, and sandwiches. Also hard to beat the price - I don't think anything has cost even $7 yet. I feel weird paying with a $20 because of all the change I get back. Even better is I've seen some fresh made fresh rolls next to the fruit salad that look really good. So far I've gotten a teriyaki chicken with eggrolls special and a chicken tikka special. Both of them gave you a lot for the price, and decent flavor - though you can tell they are using pretty basic ingredients. Every time I've been there has been a decent crowd inside. I still haven't had that thai chicken wrap, but I'll keep coming until I do. read more

I used to work at one of the office complexes nearby, so I'd pop in here pretty often. It's a small place with a pleasant atmosphere, run by a friendly Asian couple, and the prices weren't bad. There's an atrium outside, which is always pretty vacant during lunch time, so if you're so inclined to enjoy your food outside and watch a fountain in peace, this would be a good place to get your food. For me, it was a nice place to clear my head of office drudgery, pick up the SJ Merc, and read the funnies. I can't say much about most of the food, because I don't eat meat, but I will say that they do serve a good veggie burger. But beyond that, they were VERY accommodating to my vegetarian/vegan diet. When I was going there pretty regularly, they would sometimes set aside a small portion of their daily special (which was rarely a veggie-friendly) without the meat for me, or if they were catering that day, they would make an extra serving of the vegetarian option (spaghetti with fake meatballs, for instance). When their sandwich of the day was the cheeseburger and fries, they would always add the fries in with my veggie burger, no charge. So, while they don't have a very diverse vegetarian menu, they do an outstanding job of accommodating, and it was greatly appreciated on every instance. Aside from that, there's not much to say about this place - it's a simple but pleasant little joint, catering to workforce in the surrounding office complexes. The people in my department liked this place so much, the weekly menu was always hung up on one of the cubicles. Now that I've quit my job, I probably wouldn't come back here unless I was visiting my old work for some reason, but I'd suggest checking it out if you're working in the area. If you work in the Verifone building, or one close to it, it's definitely worth making the short walk past DD's to get here. read more
