I tried the veggie breakfast burrito with egg and potato. It was a very large burrito, but at around $20, I expected better value. It had very little egg and was mostly filled with potatoes, which made it feel underwhelming. I've definitely had much better breakfast burritos elsewhere. The owner was very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, the restaurant itself felt very old and had a strong, unpleasant smell. There also didn't seem to be much ventilation, so I personally wouldn't want to dine inside. Overall, the friendly service was a plus, but the food and atmosphere didn't justify the price. I probably wouldn't return and would recommend trying one of the many better breakfast burrito spots nearby.

Burrito was very good for $19 ish. Super cheesy, fresh and yummy. Kenny is a good dude too and 5/5 times will take a selfie with you so look your best! Gonna try out the Korean Mexican fusion later. Don't be shy and ring the bell!

Kenny seems like a hardworking and lovable guy in the community. The portions were double of what I could normally eat so the meal definitely had some leftovers. The cheesesteak had lots of cheese and steak and the roll was very buttery. The fries were cooked perfect and came out hot. From what I can tell, it's just Kenny working here so the service can be a bit slow but he is very apologetic about taking a while for orders. But with that being said, I suggest you plan ahead or make sure you're not in a rush. I love that the place is decorated with all of his customers. I love looking at the photos while you wait for your food.

We were heading to the San Jose airport to catch our flight but we got there a bit early, so we wanted to find a quick spot to grab a breakfast burrito. Little did we know we would stumble upon this gem of a place!! The breakfast burrito we got was large, flavorful, and filling, but the real star of the show was Kenny himself. He talked to each and every person coming in the door and even posts every single person on his Insta!! The walls of this place are literally covered in Kenny's history and memories of past customers, family members, and loved ones. It's rare to come across such a personal establishment like this these days. So happy for Kenny and hope his business keeps on thriving. Will definitely be back when I'm back in town!

My boyfriend and I finally got to try Kenny's Cafe this past Sunday morning. We first tried to go there about a month ago, but he just closed. So this time we finally got there earlier! I think we got there around 9am, and it was empty. We were enthusiastically greeted by Kenny, and he noticed Meatball, our English Bulldog, who was chilling in the car right away. We all went out to take a selfie! Hahaha :) We ordered the Spam Breakfast Burrito and Bulgogi Breakfast Burrito. We also grabbed a Snapple Apple and the Mango Aloe Drink. There was a bit of a wait as Kenny is a one man show. But it's all good. While we were waiting, more and more people came in. Kenny said that we were lucky charms as we brought more customers in! Lol... We both loved the Spam Breakfast Burrito! It was freaking delicious! The Bulgogi was a bit on the sweeter side and was very decadent. I couldn't finish it as I was so full! Lol.. The total came out to $40 for the food and drinks. It was a good price! I definitely want to try the #1 Breakfast Burrito Ever next time. This spot is definitely one of a kind, and Kenny is such fun, happy, and quirky dude! I think later on his son came in to help out so that was good. Parking was easy as we parked right in front of the place on the street. If you're looking for some bomb.com breakfast burrito, definitely check out this place! :)

This is more than a review, this is a true love letter to Kenny's cafe. I have never experienced a more genuine service than what Kenny provides. He bestowed valuable words of wisdom on me each time I went to get my burrito. He ready truly cares for each and every one of his customers. It is a one man show, Kenny and his dream. The interior is covered wall to wall with the sweetest pictures of his customers and radiates an amazing energy. Not to mention the burritos are great, they are really made with love. His special salsa is super spicy and really truly great. I love Kenny and what he stands for, if you want to give any establishment business, give it to Kenny.

    Great steak burrito, so filling.

We had the number 5, which is a steak, egg, cheese and potato burrito. Kenny makes a large burrito with a side of kimchi salsa, yum. We couldn't finish our burritos, they're delicious, and hit the spot. Kenny is very friendly, with great conversation. His restaruant is filled with photos everywhere, even on the ceiling, like wallpaper. I'm glad I picked this place.

Kenny's Cafe is a local staple in San Jose. The breakfast burritos are massive, with grilled with melted cheese on the outside for that perfect crispy finish. Kenny brings an unmatched energy.. super upbeat, genuinely friendly, and always happy to snap a photo with customers. Great food, even better vibes. Anthonyxibarrax

Kenny is the sweetest man, very kind, and you can tell that he loves to cook and make people happy. I came in on a Monday - MLK day so it was quite busy. He made several comments about how it was like old times. The place had photos wall to wall of past customers. Can be overwhelming for some, but there's a lot of pride there as well. Given he was really busy, service was a bit slower. It would be great if he had more help to meet the demand. Overall, I would come back for the delicious food (number 1 and 3 were delicious and portions are huge) and to support such a sweet and passionate man.

Stopped by on a Saturday around 11:15am and a few parties were there. It was just Kenny, the owner, by himself so he was in the kitchen when I arrived. Once he came back out to the front, he took my order and the orders of the parties behind me before going off to the kitchen again. So just a heads up that you'll need to wait for him to come out if he's in the kitchen, and will have to wait ~10-15 min for your burritos after ordering. Super friendly guy! A few tables inside. Got the #1 bacon + sausage burrito and #2 steak breakfast burrito. I personally liked the steak breakfast burrito better just because I personally like steak better than sausage. He called it the bulgogi burrito but it didn't really have the usual marinated bulgogi flavor and just tasted like plain steak. I think potatoes were also on the bland side and could've been more flavorful. Overall both burritos were still solid and I really appreciated how the tortillas were grilled to extra crispy. Came with a kimchi salsa which was quite spicy, added a nice kick.

    #1 and #8

The food was absolutely amazing! We loved our burritos and the sauce that Kenny provides is delicious. The only downside I would say is that the food can take a while but we were in no rush so it was totally fine. Just be advised it is only Kenny and he makes everything fresh so come with time and patience! It is worth the wait.

I decided to try a new restaurant for brunch and chose Kenny's Cafe. We parked outside on the curb, and there was plenty of parking. The interior of the restaurant had a couple of tables, and it was covered in pictures of Kenny and his customers over the years; very sweet! I ordered the #1 breakfast burrito, and my boyfriend ordered the #2 steak breakfast burrito. It seems Kenny is the only one to be making the food, so that is something to keep in mind if you are wondering about the service. Since I went on a Sunday with not much to do, I didn't mind the wait. The #1 breakfast burrito was super hefty, with plenty of sausage, bacon, potatoes, and onions. I only ate half for breakfast, and it kept me full for hours! The filling was super flavorful; my only complaint was that the sausages were a little too big for my bite. The #2 steak burrito was good too, and I think I enjoyed that one more than the #1 breakfast burrito. The hot sauce paired so well with the burrito; it was the perfect amount of spice, savory, and acidity, and it added a refreshing taste to the greasy burrito. We had the honor of speaking to Kenny before leaving, and you can tell his passion is serving his customers with delicious food; he told us it's not about making money, and he loves his restaurant and customers with all his heart. Truly an amazing business owner and chef, and I can't wait to frequent his cafe more to try more burritos and sandwiches!

The best way to describe Kenny is a force of nature; the restaurant, his own personal snow globe. I first became aware of Kenny's Cafe through social media a few years ago and only now got around to trying it. Street parking is available, and once you walk into his violently American themed cafe his choice of decor speaks for itself. A whiteboard menu on the wall lists 14 items, but he'll insist he can make anything you want as long as he has the ingredients. When I say insist, I mean it. As the only employee, it's clear to see that Kenny does this purely for the love of the game rather than the players. If you take too long to order, he'll tell you. If you have questions, he'll probably shut them down and just point at the text, saying he doesn't have all day in his signature irritated but inoffensive tone. He'll then pop into the kitchen, make your food for 15 minutes, and come out with a takeout box and a handheld POS. After you pay, he'll usher you into a selfie and post it on his instagram with a "Good morning [name]." I am not sure if this step is optional and did not want to find out, so now my face and mispelled name are buried somewhere in his 18,000+ posts. Oh yeah, I got food too. I ordered the kimchi sausage steak burrito and was pleasantly surprised. The burrito itself was pretty good save for frequent chunks of gristle that masqueraded as steak, but if you cover anything with enough salsa (which was sufficiently spicy and chunky) it becomes palatable I guess. A welcome peculiarity of the Bay Area with a very interesting past. Very happy I was able to make it.

Kenny's Cafe Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Kenny's Cafe

    Do they have vegetarian options?

Kenny does have a Vegetarian Breakfast Burrito item on his menu. I've not ordered it so I don't know what it contains. But he is pretty flexible in the kitchen so can customize to a great extent. He is extremely customer satisfaction oriented.

    Do they accept Apple Pay?

They should. They use a Square for card transactions.

Can we get the hours updated to show the correct reflection of when this place is actually open?…

    Hours have been updated.

    R they open on Sunday?

    No. Sorry they are not.

    Open for take out?

    Yep

Is this place still open during COVID-19?

    Yes

Do they have anything not spicy for sensitive people? Answer: No. Kenny told me he couldn't cook for…

Yes. I ordered a breakfast burrito and there is no spicy sauce in it. Also the chicken teriyaki is not spicy. You can probably just ask for them not to place the jalapeño slices in the bowl for you.

When do they stop serving breakfast burrito?

They close at 2pm. They make the burritos all the time.

    Do they take phone orders?

    Yes they sure do!

How do you know when he has the bulgogi burritos? I came on a Friday morning and he didnt have it.

I think it might be something they only offer when they have the ingredients. The spam & pineapple burrito wasn't on the menu when I visited but when I asked about it the employee said that she could make it for me.

I tried the summer special, Mango Creamsicle Matcha, with 50% sweetness. The matcha was delicious, the flavor really came through. I love matcha so I'm glad it wasn't weak. That said, I felt like the mango flavor was too subtle. I'm not sure if it's because I adjusted the sweetness but I could barely taste the mango so it didn't give mango creamsicle vibes. I still enjoyed the drink though. I would like to come back when it's less crowded to explore the market and try more drinks without the crowds.

The gentleman before me ordered a breakfast burrito and it looked good af but I've had my fill of burritos for the week already lmao so I ordered the cafe club. FAM!!!! So delicious even within its simplicity. The ingredients are normal club sandwich ingredients buuuuut the way he put it together. All the difference. The owner is kind and sweet and doesn't rush anyone to order or anything. But from the looks of it, EVERYTHING IS GOOD!

If you're having trouble locating Gateway Cafe: enter the 4 story building. Walk past the lobby and…read moreinto the outdoor courtyard. You should see a cafe by the water fountain. The building is very close to the San Jose airport and the Matrix Casino. Plenty of parking. They post their daily specials on their website every week: https://sanjosegatewaycafe.wixsite.com/gatewaycafe/daily-specials. There are some specials they have every week like sesame chicken katsu on Tuesdays and burgers on Wednesdays. Monday is always pasta. However you can also always order sandwiches off their menu! They also have salads, spring rolls, soft drinks, cookies, and more! My favorite is the veggie sandwich or the sesame chicken which comes with teriyaki sauce and a sesame slaw. Gateway Cafe is a mom and pop shop run by the same couple for the past 20+ years. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area and supporting a small business!
