I've been waiting about a year now to try this place, mainly because of the infamous owner, Kenny. The place is located in a very industrial part of San Jose which is very random.. just like this shop and what it presents. It's almost like walking into a thrift shop that has random things going on from hundreds of photos of Kenny with customers, US flags, a table full of military business cards, Mercedes Benz trinkets, etc etc. Please be informed that Kenny is THE only person in here which means, he's the greeter, the cook, the cashier, and entertainer lol. The food can take long for a reason and there's no music or TV anywhere so it's quiet. The furniture is random as well; some from an office space, elementary school, and an all wooden table with chairs from someone's grandma's house. Me and my co workers ordered 2 burritos: Regular steak and eggs and a steak bulgogi. We waited maybe 15 mins for our which wasn't too long. The burritos had this soft white cheese melted on top which gave the tortilla this vanilla sweetness. I didn't really like that. The steak meat was sweet but didn't have that bulgogi marinade taste. Both of our burritos tasted like a plain egg, potato, and blank steak breakfast burrito. It was nothing special but the size is huge and one can be shared by two people. The burritos came with this sweet chipotle sauce with some sweet peppers in which it did add some flavor. Kenny is the man though! He's super nice and proud. He's very entertaining and enjoys talking to his guests. His son is in the army so it's one of the reasons why he's very patriotic. Is it a bit much?! Very sweet owner who is also the waiter and cook. Some might find his personality eccentric. When it comes to the food, the bulgogi burrito was a tad greasy, but delicious and very filling. Interior is casual and there seems to be a big military following. The story behind Kenny's Cafe is one of resilience and there's much to be admired about this man. It had very little egg and was mostly filled with potatoes, which made it feel underwhelming. I've definitely had much better breakfast burritos elsewhere. The owner was very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, the restaurant itself felt very old and had a strong, unpleasant smell. There also didn't seem to be much ventilation, so I personally wouldn't want to dine inside. Overall, the friendly service was a plus, but the food and atmosphere didn't justify the price. Kenny seems like a hardworking and lovable guy in the community. The portions were double of what I could normally eat so the meal definitely had some leftovers. The cheesesteak had lots of cheese and steak and the roll was very buttery. The fries were cooked perfect and came out hot. From what I can tell, it's just Kenny working here so the service can be a bit slow but he is very apologetic about taking a while for orders. But with that being said, I suggest you plan ahead or make sure you're not in a rush. I love that the place is decorated with all of his customers. Stopped by on a Saturday around 11:15am and a few parties were there. It was just Kenny, the owner, by himself so he was in the kitchen when I arrived. Once he came back out to the front, he took my order and the orders of the parties behind me before going off to the kitchen again. So just a heads up that you'll need to wait for him to come out if he's in the kitchen, and will have to wait ~10-15 min for your burritos after ordering. Super friendly guy! A few tables inside. He called it the bulgogi burrito but it didn't really have the usual marinated bulgogi flavor and just tasted like plain steak. I first became aware of Kenny's Cafe through social media a few years ago and only now got around to trying it. Street parking is available, and once you walk into his violently American themed cafe his choice of decor speaks for itself. A whiteboard menu on the wall lists 14 items, but he'll insist he can make anything you want as long as he has the ingredients. When I say insist, I mean it. As the only employee, it's clear to see that Kenny does this purely for the love of the game rather than the players. If you take too long to order, he'll tell you. If you have questions, he'll probably shut them down and just point at the text, saying he doesn't have all day in his signature irritated but inoffensive tone. He'll then pop into the kitchen, make your food for 15 minutes, and come out with a takeout box and a handheld POS. After you pay, he'll usher you into a selfie and post it on his instagram with a "Good morning [name]." I am not sure if this step is optional and did not want to find out, so now my face and mispelled name are buried somewhere in his 18,000+ posts. Oh yeah, I got food too. I ordered the kimchi sausage steak burrito and was pleasantly surprised. The burrito itself was pretty good save for frequent chunks of gristle that masqueraded as steak, but if you cover anything with enough salsa (which was sufficiently spicy and chunky) it becomes palatable I guess. They have a plethora of drink option which also include beer ironically. The potatoes tasted like the small red rustic potatoes. I'm not sure if they were but that's what they taste like they were well seasoned. The meat was delicious. The sausage was authentic everything about this place was phenomenal. The man I met must be Kenny. He said he was 70 years old. He just enjoy his life and he was very grateful to God. As we were heading home, we wanted to grab a quick breakfast before going to the airport and came across Kenny's on Yelp. It's a total hole-in-the-wall spot but conveniently close to the airport. When we walked in, there were three guys waiting for their meals and one person ahead of us. A moment later, someone popped up from the back--and we assumed it was Kenny! His vibrant personality and energetic presence made it pretty clear. He was the only one working in the back, exuding positivity and enthusiasm. He greeted us warmly, handed the guys their meals, and after they paid, he even took a selfie with them. He then took our order and was still super charismatic and had so much energy. He was excited for our order and then went to the back to make it. Looks like a one man operation. The burrito was good. Just a little bit of a sweet aroma really helps cap off the medley of flavors. Ain't no holding back on the grease, but it works beautifully. I know not where this inspiration comes from, but Kenny is a humble yet mad genius. Philly Cheesesteak - 5/5 Cheesisest cheesesteak I ever did have, not to mention adding a bit of crunchy texture and toasted aroma with the dutch crunch is a nice combination I didn't know I even wanted. The onion rings were perhaps a bit too solidly fried to the point of overly crunchy, but still well done on the onion. We got the bulgogi and the breakfast special and they did not disappoint. The burritos come with a homemade sauce that makes it. Some of the best breakfast burritos under the sun! Kenny's is the embodiment of a hole-in-the-wall spot. It's a small place with an unassuming exterior. The inside is super well-loved with photos of customers littering every single surface of the walls- even the ceiling! The man behind the counter was such a joy to interact with. Kenny is extremely friendly, welcoming, and is spreading all the happy vibes. We ordered a hefty number of 5 burritos and he kept reminding us throughout our visit how happy he was making each and every one. There's so much love in this place! Onto the actual burritos, we got the Steak Breakfast Burritos (#2) and the De la Cruz Burritos (#3). So much goodness packed into these tortillas and the portion sizes were huge! My favorite part was actually the sauce that he includes. It's a hot sauce vaguely resembling Tapatío including jalapeños and a ton of green onions. I'm fully convinced that there are also some Asian flavors in there, since it reminded me a bit of kimchi. I don't know exactly what goes in there, but it was insane! The absolute best pairing.
