Came here after seeing lots of talk online about Kenny's being the best breakfast burrito spot around SJ. Kenny and the staff are extremely kind and caring, and even when the place fills up they deliver excellent service. However, I thought the food we ordered was just ok. Ordered the #1 (Breakfast burrito), #5 (breakfast sandwich). Both items' composition was not the best. They were wrapped with the wrapping paper that didn't securely hold the entire sandwich/burrito securely. Especially for the sandwich, the cheese and meat were easily spilling out from the sides. The burrito was standard, but I felt the same way more or less regarding its structure. Additionally, the flavor was ok and good at best. The meal came with red salsas, which look to be house made since it was clear there is pickled onions and some other little things in it. Honestly it is an ok salsa, I'm not sure if this particular flavor is what I'm looking for to complement a breakfast burrito normally. We had an OK experience. The restaurant seems like a fairly small shop (run by family)! While I'm all for supporting local and mom/pop shops, I probably would not wait over 15 minutes for it. Maybe will have to try the bulgogi items next time! But for breakfast burrito/sandwich it was just ok to me. read more

Came here over the weekend & the restaurant itself was easy to miss. The parking was in front on the main street, so don't drive around back like we accidentally did. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by Kenny himself. His excitable attitude & uplifting energy made us feel instantly welcomed. He recommended the #1 & #4, so we ordered just that. The tables & chairs inside were more like office chairs & were a little uncomfortable to sit in while we waited. Soon after, the restaurant started to fill up with other diners & it was easy to tell that the staff was becoming overwhelmed. Luckily, we were the first ones in, so we didn't have to wait as long as others seemed to. Our meals arrived nice & hot on an aluminum tray, & we were given spicy sauces on the side. Both meals were packed with a ton of flavor, but unfortunately, my experience with the burrito took a turn about halfway through. I found several pieces of eggshell inside, & the bacon was undercooked & completely gummy. Unfortunately, that caused me to lose my appetite, which was disappointing because the burrito had been really flavorful up until that point. Kenny's personality is really what won us over, as that's something that's rare to come across at most restaurants. We could tell that he genuinely puts a lot of love & passion into the restaurant & his food, & his customer service made a lasting impression on us. The bowl is a huge portion. They have kimchi salad which was too spicy for me but my husband and boys enjoyed it. The food is good. I think the portions are what I think people are after. There's a sweetness to the meat that I didn't really care for. The salsa is a nice change from what is usually with a breakfast burrito but for me I wish there was another salsa option. I've been waiting about a year now to try this place, mainly because of the infamous owner, Kenny. The place is located in a very industrial part of San Jose which is very random.. just like this shop and what it presents. It's almost like walking into a thrift shop that has random things going on from hundreds of photos of Kenny with customers, US flags, a table full of military business cards, Mercedes Benz trinkets, etc etc. Please be informed that Kenny is THE only person in here which means, he's the greeter, the cook, the cashier, and entertainer lol. The furniture is random as well; some from an office space, elementary school, and an all wooden table with chairs from someone's grandma's house. Me and my co workers ordered 2 burritos: Regular steak and eggs and a steak bulgogi. We waited maybe 15 mins for our which wasn't too long. The burritos had this soft white cheese melted on top which gave the tortilla this vanilla sweetness. I didn't really like that. The steak meat was sweet but didn't have that bulgogi marinade taste. Both of our burritos tasted like a plain egg, potato, and blank steak breakfast burrito. It was nothing special but the size is huge and one can be shared by two people. The burritos came with this sweet chipotle sauce with some sweet peppers in which it did add some flavor. Kenny is the man though! He's super nice and proud. He's very entertaining and enjoys talking to his guests. His son is in the army so it's one of the reasons why he's very patriotic. Is it a bit much?! I tried the veggie breakfast burrito with egg and potato. It was a very large burrito, but at around $20, I expected better value. It had very little egg and was mostly filled with potatoes, which made it feel underwhelming. I've definitely had much better breakfast burritos elsewhere. The owner was very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, the restaurant itself felt very old and had a strong, unpleasant smell. There also didn't seem to be much ventilation, so I personally wouldn't want to dine inside. Overall, the friendly service was a plus, but the food and atmosphere didn't justify the price. Once he came back out to the front, he took my order and the orders of the parties behind me before going off to the kitchen again. So just a heads up that you'll need to wait for him to come out if he's in the kitchen, and will have to wait ~10-15 min for your burritos after ordering. Super friendly guy! A few tables inside. Got the #1 bacon + sausage burrito and #2 steak breakfast burrito. I personally liked the steak breakfast burrito better just because I personally like steak better than sausage. I only ate half for breakfast, and it kept me full for hours! The filling was super flavorful; my only complaint was that the sausages were a little too big for my bite. The best way to describe Kenny is a force of nature; the restaurant, his own personal snow globe. I first became aware of Kenny's Cafe through social media a few years ago and only now got around to trying it. Street parking is available, and once you walk into his violently American themed cafe his choice of decor speaks for itself. A whiteboard menu on the wall lists 14 items, but he'll insist he can make anything you want as long as he has the ingredients. When I say insist, I mean it. As the only employee, it's clear to see that Kenny does this purely for the love of the game rather than the players. If you take too long to order, he'll tell you. If you have questions, he'll probably shut them down and just point at the text, saying he doesn't have all day in his signature irritated but inoffensive tone. He'll then pop into the kitchen, make your food for 15 minutes, and come out with a takeout box and a handheld POS. After you pay, he'll usher you into a selfie and post it on his instagram with a "Good morning [name]." I am not sure if this step is optional and did not want to find out, so now my face and mispelled name are buried somewhere in his 18,000+ posts. Oh yeah, I got food too. I ordered the kimchi sausage steak burrito and was pleasantly surprised. The burrito itself was pretty good save for frequent chunks of gristle that masqueraded as steak, but if you cover anything with enough salsa (which was sufficiently spicy and chunky) it becomes palatable I guess. They have a plethora of drink option which also include beer ironically. Needless to say, the food was phenomenal and the dipping jalapeño sauce seems to be homemade was delicious a compliment the whale grilled burrito outer shell very well. The potatoes tasted like the small red rustic potatoes. I'm not sure if they were but that's what they taste like they were well seasoned. The meat was delicious. The sausage was authentic everything about this place was phenomenal. The man I met must be Kenny. He said he was 70 years old. He just enjoy his life and he was very grateful to God. I was the first customer of the day two hours after he had entered his own café. When we walked in, there were three guys waiting for their meals and one person ahead of us. A moment later, someone popped up from the back--and we assumed it was Kenny! I found it to be spicy, but not overly so. It had a smokiness that added to the flavor. While the sauce didn't cause me a hot flash, I did need to blow my nose a couple times. 6) A couple was finishing their meal when I came in. The burrito was a bit sweet and had a good ratio of potatoes, steak and cheese. The Philly Cheesesteak will be the cheesiest cheesesteak you ever had, and it came with fries! Each meal comes with hot sauce, it tastes like if gochujang and Tabasco had a baby together. Kenny uses high-quality ingredients and you can taste the love he puts into his food! The food was great, but meeting Kenny was everything. What a great man, and my son Kevin and I had the good fortune to have some time to have some meaningful conversation with Kenny during a rare slow time. He has such a great perspective on life and he wants to pass on his message of happiness to all. He's not about riches or fame, but good health and happiness. He makes you feel like you are important and he takes pics with his customers whenever possible to welcome them into his family. The decor says it all. Such a special experience. The breaksfast burrito and breakfast sandwich that we enjoyed today were awesome and the kimchi salsa was so so good, but be warned it has a kick. He should bottle and sell that salsa! Kenny is a 1 man show, so wait times can vary but believe me it's worth the wait, but please rate him on what he brings, himself and the food, not the wait time. Top notch service! Received food, 10 stars. I got the De La Cruz burrito and it was delicious. Get all ingredients in every bite unlike other places burritos where it's stacked.
