Tampa, FL Inside the Barrymore Hotel in Riverwalk Tampa there is a restaurant that very few know about. It's called Gaudin Kitchen and Bar. Had the pleasure in visiting them and had good time. The place is laid back and has a relaxing atmosphere. The food and drinks are good. The staff were attentive and hospitable. This is what I have: 1) Gaudin Crispy Wings 2) Smoked Salmon Filet 3) Planters Punch Drink 4) Sasparilla Float Drink

My wife and I enjoyed an Impossible Burger (Veggie Burger) and a Smashburger with Cheese. Both were delicious. Love the fact that this dining room is in the Barrymore Hotel across the street from the Straz Theater.

This place is no ordinary hotel restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is personable and efficient, and the prices are a bit lower than you might expect for a hotel restaurant in a prime downtown location. As a musician for the Broadway national tour of Wicked, several of my fellow musicians and I ate our meals between shows here during the 3 weeks we were in Tampa, and each time we were impressed with the service and quality of food. Over several visits we had different servers. All of them were great, but more than once we had Komar and he really impressed us every time. We were never there with less than 6 people, and all of us requested separate checks. Komar never wrote our orders down, and never made a mistake when he delivered our dinners! At the end our checks were correct and delivered in a timely fashion. I ordered the Southern Fried Catfish and Cheese Grits twice and each time I was thrilled with the quality of the meal. I also enjoyed the Stout Burger and the Corn Flake Chicken Schnitzel, so you will have to decide which one to order - they're all great! Do yourself a favor and have a nice meal before the show at the Gaudin Kitchen and Bar in the Barrymore Hotel - Ask for Komar, but if he's not there all of the wait staff will treat you right!

    Catfish & Gouda grits.

An interesting concept, probably because this hotel also houses college students . You walk up to the counter, order what you want & they bring it to the table in a box. I ordered the catfish with the Gouda grits. The grits were excellent however the catfish could have used a little more seasoning & it was a little tough. Even with that being said, the grits alone were enough to come back for a 2nd visit.

The food was unbelievable. For someone who has traveled and ate all over just the simple pizza and chicken tenders was one of the best I've had. I will say the con might be the breakfast because of the fact the servers don't really acknowledge you and saw a server yelling at a person for leaving before food was there because it was taking very long. I would say the dinner and bar vibes are an A+++ but breakfast a F maybe because it was full but the service was disappointing sitting there for 15 minutes I thought I was invisible for a second.

Then you see the bar... dimly lit, and stretching all the way to the ceiling. Absolutely breathtaking. There were eleven of us girls dressed in black celebrating a birthday, and we started the night at the bar with drinks and photos before dinner. The staff sat us at the perfect long table, and Andrew and Brian took amazing care of us all evening. We shared the Focaccia Pull Apart -- warm, slightly sweet, cheesy, and honestly addictive. The Burrata with peaches, pickled mustard seeds, and pistachio was bright and fresh, and the beef tartare was another favorite. For dinner, I had the scallops, which were huge and roasted perfectly with citrus, cauliflower, and brown butter. Some of the girls shared the Radiatore alla Vodka, and that sauce was chef's kiss -- flavorful and so satisfying. But let me tell you... The Parmesan Fries with Black Truffle Aioli? I'm going back JUST for those. Cocktails were on point -- the girls loved the Elliott Aster Martini with its citrus kiss, and I had the mezcal espresso martini and the Summer Haze. Both were delicious. Beautiful place, amazing food, incredible night.

We started with the Million Dollar Deviled Eggs, topped with crispy oysters, bacon jam and caviar. They were creative and packed with flavor. The caviar came through a little stronger than we would have preferred, but everything worked surprisingly well together. Bill put them around 3.5-4 out of 5, while Deb gave them a 3. The wine was one of the best parts of the meal. I had the Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir and loved it--fruity with a peppery edge in a really good way. Easy 4.5/5. Deb went with the Drylands Sauvignon Blanc and gave it a solid 4/5. Both wines paired nicely with the deviled eggs. For lunch, we tried the blackened grouper sandwich. The fish and smoky Old Bay rémoulade were very flavorful, and the sandwich itself earned a 4/5 for taste. The problem was the $34 price tag. It simply felt too small for that price, so we'd put the value closer to a 3. Dessert turned things around again. The mango sorbetto was cold, bright and refreshing, and the accompanying sugar cookies added a surprisingly nice contrast. At $7, it felt like a much better value. 4/5. Overall, Oak & Ola delivered some very good flavors and an excellent wine experience. We'd return, but we'd probably be a little more selective about the higher-priced entrées.

There are a few parking garages, but even those are a pain because people park like idiots. The parking situation isn't On Swann's fault, but it's an annoying factor. We had reservations well in advance, so we didn't have to worry about a wait. It was reasonably busy for a Saturday at brunch time. The decor and overall ambiance was classy but comfortable, which is great imo. Our server was nice and checked on us a good amount of times. The wait time between ordering our food and it coming to the table felt a bit lengthier than I would typically expect, but the food was delicious so it's hard to even complain about that. I got the short rib hash and a croissant and both items were wonderful. The croissant was flaky and buttery, it comes with a honey dip and butter on the side, would def get again. The short rib hash was also a menu item I would order again - the eggs were cooked perfectly, and I'd say I'm a little picky with how runny my eggs are. These were runny, but not TOO runny. The potatoes had a nice crisp to the outside but nice and soft on the inside, the short rib was so tender, so juicy, it was just a very well rounded, great tasting hash. This was my first time visiting On Swann for brunch, I'll be back for sure, but maybe on a weekday instead of the weekend since it seems to get pretty crowded in the Hyde Park Village area!

We also got their brunch burger, which we ordered at medium rare. It's probably the first place I've ever served me an actual medium rare burger cooked correctly! The egg was nice and runny the bun was seasoned. I could've gone without the croissant bun. I think it got soggy and the flavor didn't quite fit. I was expecting a more buttery, flaky croissant rather I got a more sweet dough croissant. Otherwise, the other components were put together very well. The french fries are also cooked perfectly. Highly recommend. Then we ended the meal off with macadamia pancakes. The pancakes themselves were kind of flat but surprisingly very moist and very yummy. I wasn't expecting them to be moist because I have flat they were, but it was very good. The macadamia and the fruit combo on top was delicious. The passionfruit syrup was tangy and sour. My only feedback is to serve it with whipped cream or something to just relieved all the sourness that's on this plate. Otherwise very well executed. We'll definitely be back!

I enjoyed sipping on it throughout the meal, and it was the perfect drink to warm me up. For food, we ordered the golden beet salad, the black bean sauce mushrooms, yakitori, sea bass collar, and the lamb vindaloo pappardelle. We also ordered the olive oil cake for our dessert. My ranking - yakitori: divine! the use of the jammy egg yolk as a sauce was creative and well-executed. The chicken was also expertly grilled and juicy. Even the lemon with the seasoning added great acidity and spice to the dish. loved it! - sea bass collar: this was delicious and a fun experience. We really appreciated we could eat with our hands, and the wet towelette to clean our hands after we were done. I love a nuoc cham sauce, and it goes great with fried fish. I thought also four pieces of collar was a sizeable portion to split with two people. - olive oil cake: scrumptious and light yet so satisfying, definitely hit our dessert crave. No notes. - golden beets: the beets are nice and sweet, followed by the gooseberries in here which add a tartness, but the ricotta mellows out the flavors and adds richness and creaminess. The bread for dipping is also quite nice. - pappardelle: wish this was a bit more saucey as the noodles were quite thick and layered. The spices of vindaloo were there, but the flavors didn't penetrate through to the pappardelle noodles. - mushrooms: my friend really liked this dish, so it's all personal preference of course. I thought the black bean sauce was a bit glued to the bottom, almost too pastey. It didn't incorporate with all of the mushrooms, so the ones at the top didn't have as much flavor as those on the bottom. I think the paste could have used some loosening with some liquid, although that might forgo some of the mushroom crispiness. Towards the end, the sauce was just too overpowering so I couldn't find myself reaching for it. Service was wonderful. We were checked on multiple times, and when we got up to go to the restroom, the staff would come over and fold our napkins back on the table for us. I found prices to be super reasonable for what we got. A must-go if you're in the tampa area!

We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was.
