I'm averaging this out to a 4. Had I just had the Polish and Greek food, this would have been a 5. I enjoy both Polish and Greek food and we have been wanting to try this place, but previously found information online to be limited and when we drove by it once, it was closed when we thought it was supposed to be open a couple of years ago. Fast forward and they have a website with a full menu listed and details on open hours. Thanks to Yelp, we called to make a reservation (since their site doesn't mention anything and they don't show up on Open Table) and our table was awaiting us when we arrived. This is a small place, so if you are really looking for a seat, you should probably call ahead too. I started with a Greek salad (large shared with my parents) and it was fresh and flavorful. I then had the 6 potato and cheese pierogis sauteed in onions. I'm a bit of a purist and like this flavor the best, but they do let you mix and match your 6 as you choose upon ordering. I did taste a bite of one of the meat ones from my Mom's plate and was able to taste the coconut soup and spinach pie from my brother's plate. All was delicious - and despite the varying cuisines, the tastes blended well together (perhaps the whole Polish and Greek combination wasn't as far off as I thought). Since the restaurant has Gaufre in the name, I figured this is what they were known for, so saved room for dessert. It was the Gaufre that averaged this review down as it by itself would have been a 3. I like a good waffle and these were touted as homemade to order and as far as I was concerned, they likely came out of the freezer as they were not fresh tasting at all. I did like that you could choose your own toppings and they are two large waffles per serving, so good for sharing (which we did!). The staff was certainly attentive and friendly and when they found out of our Polish heritage, they seemed even more welcoming and excited about our presence. It is a place I would go back to, but I would not necessarily order a Gaufre again - would rather spend my calories on the wholesome home cooking for the main course! read more

The restaurant is small and has homey decor. The service was friendly and mostly efficient. We seemed to wait a bit long but we weren't in a hurry. Also, there were some inconsistencies, for instance every other table in the restaurant was brought a bread basket but we were not. It might have been because 3 different servers waited on us at different points in the meal. Not a huge complaint, of course. If I'd really wanted bread, I would have just asked for it. We tried the pierogies (3 different varieties) all were good but I loved the saurkraut and mushroom best. I also sampled the borscht. It was yummy and served with a mushroom dumpling. I've never had it like that before. It would have been even better with sour cream but I wasn't offered any. We also had the Greek combo that came with a Greek salad, spinach pie, and 2 grape leaves. Everything was good, but it wasn't the highlight by any stretch. The price on this item was also quite high. We didn't try a waffle but I'd like to if I'm passing through again. My wife and I tried this little Polish & Greek restaurant on August 3, 2013. It is small and quaint and the food was tasty. I tried the "Taste of Poland" dinner and my wife had the stuffed cabbage. Both were served hot and our waitress was very knowledgable and friendly. She did a great job keeping my water glass full (for those who read my reviews, you know that hydration is important to me in how I judge service) and as she helped other patrons, we could hear how well she answered questions about the menu. I don't know that we'll return soon because the flavors were different and not something I'll crave, but if you want something unique and different and are into trying new flavors, you should give this place a try. P.S. As I htink about it, the pierogies were pretty darn good! I liked the meat, but several other reviewers like the sauerkraut versions. read more

Tucked away in the back side street, you just have to detour one small block off the more popular walk to find this little place. We didn't want to eat at one of the touristy places this time and just wanted a lower key place that locals would go - this cafe fits the bill. I'll start backwards with our food. Had the polish apple cheesecake, made with farmers cheese - was quite good, not too sweet and was cake-like - not at all like the Juniors cheesecakes in NYC that I've grown up with, more like a Japanese cheesecake but a bit richer. Good with a hot cup of coffee or even their cappuccino or latte. We had ordered hot-out-of-the oven tomato and pepper stuffed with rice and meat. Was a delicious melding of flavors that was tasty yet light but also home made comfort food. Since it was a chilly 48 degrees in St Augustine (yes, why us????), this dish just warmed us up and was satisfying. Started with the Mediterranean sampler which comprised of cucumber/tzatziki, a tapenade and a pink fluffier spread that perhaps had more chopped cukes in it, accompanied by a huge basket of warm bread and pita that didn't need butter, that itself was almost filling and also an excellent appetizer. The barley soup and spicy coconut soup (reminded me of a light Thai curry) were excellent, hot (temp-wise) and were rich - you really do taste all the ingredients and very well seasoned. Home made for sure and that's why both soups were so good. The interior is more like a homey cafe, comfortable and warm. The other diners were quiet and the place is definitely low key. stumbled upon this place while wondering around the touristy downtown st. Augustine, this by no way fits into the whole Colonial Old Town theme, but it was such good food. First of all, they had this Polish dark beer, such great flavors. went with the summer beet cold soup, thought it'd be appropriate for the hot weather out. it was very refreshing and interesting. the owner lady even started telling us how to make it. very fun lady. the gaufres is a must have, especially with blueberries. While I admit, I doubt many people come to Florida for the Greek/Polish fare. My gf who has a love for all things delicious, led us past the fresh seafood and Mexican spots to this little eatery. We sat inside and I don't think they offered outdoor seating, but it's a nice spot to get out of the sun. We ordered the Greek salad, spinach pie, and 6 varieties of pierogies. Everything was homemade and fresh. Our server was kind, attentive, and informative. We both love beer and they had several Greek, Polish, and German beers to choose from. Disappointing Polish food and VERY slow service. My friend and I went for lunch on a Sunday. They were not crowded, yet it took over 10 minutes just to have the waitress come over to bring a menu. I ordered the Golumpa platter - stuffed cabbage with perogies. Again, it took what seemed like forever to receive our order. When it did arrive, they had the wrong perogies (I ordered meat and sauerkraut and received cheese and sauerkraut)... second the stuffed cabbage was tasteless... almost like the just dumped a can of plain tomatoe puree on it. Walking down the beautiful and historic street of Aviles, one cannot miss this charming little cafe. We were immediately charmed by the location, the owners, the eclectic offerings of Polish and Greek food and the gaufres, aka, waffles. We sat down beside a decaying but enchanting window and looked out upon the oldest street in the United States. Our iced coffee was robust and delicious, our chocolate baklava was gooey, sticky, fresh and sweet. Our strawberry nutella and whipped cream gaufre was good too but without the whipped cream, it would've been really dry. The gaufres (waffles) are crispy not moist and fluffy as we Americans are accustomed. All in all, it is a delightful shop on a delightful street in a delightful city! read more

The options for gaufre toppings is extensive, and as this was an afternoon treat, I opted for the waffle treat with an ice cream topping, Nutella and strawberries... The toppings were as delicious as expected, but the main event--the waffle--was disappointing. Overcooked and way too crispy, it was hard to cut through. Quaint and adorable, inside and out. My friend and I were in town visiting the beach, and we sought out this establishment after reading about it on Yelp. It seemed to be family-run (though that is a complete assumption on my part), and the two men who helped us were amazingly sweet, despite the fact that we got there right before closing time. I ordered a strawberry and Nutella waffle, while my friend got one with whipped cream and strawberries. The waffles took a little time, but they were definitely worth the wait. As soon as I saw my friend's waffle, I immediately regretted not ordering whipped cream on my own. It tasted amazing and was apparently homemade. My strawberry and Nutella waffle, however, was still delicious. I will most certainly be patronizing this business again, next time I'm in town! read more

Definitely a disappointment relative to all the other positive reviews, we expected better. Food was pretty good and relatively inexpensive, but certainly nothing to write home about. The real problem was the service - waitress didn't even look at me so that it was difficulty to tell when she was talking to me or someone else, was flat and unfriendly, and constantly interrupted our conversations at the table rather than waiting politely until there was a breaking point in our conversation. This seems to be common amongst college student waitresses now adays, but was really bad at this place; the meal-experience was more annoying than pleasant. I grew up eating Lithuanian and Polish food, feeling homesick(from Chicago), I searched "Polish Food" on Yelp. To my surprise this place popped up. I was ecstatic when I read all the reviews and looked at the legit looking food in the pics..... so we made the trip from Jax. The restaurant is in a cluster of other "off the beaten" path places. It looks like the cozy place and has that gritty charm of all the places great food comes out of. We had sauerkraut/pierogi, pyza and the kielbasa combo. The food was 100% legit. My tastebuds were happy. The reason for the 3 stars is because the portions to price were absolutely absurd. For above mentioned along with an imported $8 beer, juice and an iced tea was $55 before tip. The $16 kielbasa combo was 1 piece of sausage,sauerkraut and 3 pierogi. We honestly left hungry. For the homey cozy feel I expect bread, soup or salad to be along with the entree. I guess they get away with it being that they are the only place like it anywhere around. read more

Stumbled across this place when we were here after my wife finished up a photo shoot. We were both starving. When we walked by the food smelled great and a couple of diners outside said it was very good so we took a table outside and gave it a go. The service was great, the staff friendly and attentive. Both of us tried the special which was polish sausage with sauerkraut. It also came with some pierogis. I also tried the curry chicken soup and my wife the borscht. The soups were excellent. The sausage and kraut was ok but the pierogis were outstanding. I could have eaten nothing but those. If we ever find ourselves back we will give it another try. Only got 3 stars in case it was just a one off experience but I don't think so. read more

This place is awesome! Seemingly random pairing of foods (the chipper, friendly waitress let us know its because the owners were polish but left poland for greece before coming to america).
