Cozy and comfortable great service. Have been here twice and had soup and pierogies both times. The barley soup is rich and buttery with small chunks of beef and chewy barley a meal in itself. My hubby had the Thai coconut soup which was super flavorful with just a little kick. The pierogies are to die for. Potato dumplings stuffed with cheese and potatoes, sauerkraut and mushrooms or spinach. We had a variety sautéed in bacon with onions. Oh and LOTS of butter AND sour cream. Eat this way every day and you'll be needing stretchy pants! Enjoyed the selection of Polish beers. A little pricey but worth it. This is a very nice small little place. We ate outside in the little cobblestone alley way, had a nice candle at the table , drank some wine and some very good polish beer.. Thanks to Yelp we learned of this restaurant and added it to our "must eat at" places for our first trip to St Augustine. Let me start by saying I had read some other reviews claiming it was hard to find. We didn't find that to be the case at all. Using the Maps app we entered the address, drove until we found a place to park (which thankfully we found on the Main Street (King St) and seeing how it is free after 5:00 we only put $1 in the meter to get us till then so that was inexpensive) and then we walked the remainder of the way, maybe 5 minutes total from where we parked. Just the walk itself was beautiful and we stopped to take quite a few pictures of the cobblestone street, the quaint looking businesses and all the beautiful flowers. The two entrance doors off of Aviles St were not the actual entrance. Signs were posted in the windows though to turn the corner for the main entrance, which was off of Artillery Lane. We arrived around 4:45, knowing they close at 6:00. No one else was there. We were welcomed warmly and served thoroughly the entire meal. Our waitress was sweet, knowledgable and friendly. We enjoyed a good bit of conversation from the owner's wife. She told us they are originally from Poland, lived in Greece for 5 years and have been in Florida for 21 years, half of those being in St Augustine. She was so nice, easy to talk to and inquisitive about us as well. We have German Dutch roots in our family so we were familiar with many of the menu items but tried a few new things as well. Everything we had was wonderful and fresh! I can't remember the spelling of everything but, if I can figure out how to add them, pictures will be attached of our dishes. I can remember these dishes our group tried though: Pyzy, Perrogis (?) filled with potato and cheese (the best!!) and also filled with sauerkraut and spinach (which we found odd), Spinach Pie (otherwise known as Spanakopita), Hummus with fresh made Pita chips, Golombki (?) which is a giant cabbage roll filled with meat and tomato sauce and was a little spicy, and one other main dish I just can't remember the name of but was like stuffed peppers (only we had it in a stuffed tomato) filled with rice, ground pork and lamb, and potatoes and veggies on the side. My spelling of all of these is sketchy. But they were all tasty! The inside of the restaurant was homey and quaint, much like being in your family's home for a dinner as many other reviewers noted. We felt right at home! Lastly the Gaufre (which they told us means waffle) was DELICIOUS!! That is a polish dessert. A sugared waffle with various toppings of your choosing. We had chocolate syrup, strawberries and fresh whipped cream. My 14 yr old son nearly ate the entire thing by himself but the other 4 of us snagged a few bites. This was a true gem, absolutely worthy of 5 stars, and we look forward to coming back! read more

That said, I'm evaluating this place as a tourist-center St Augustine restauarant, not as a Polish restaurant. Ordered the borscht, Pirogies, stuffed cabbage. I've never had stuffed cabbage and I'm sure this was a poor introduction. Basically rice and ground meat barely seasoned with canned tomato soup. However, the borscht was good, with meat dumpling and fresher tasting. The pirogies also were good. We ordered a variety of them in one plate, so obtained a good sample. My wife and I have been frequenting this fantastic little gem on our annual St. Augustine trips for the past 3 years. We actually find it difficult to justify eating anywhere else in the city. I am a sucker for good Polish food and this family delivers. I have tried every style of Pierogi on the menu and they are all fantastic! The hunter's stew is delicious, as is the stuffed cabbage, and the saurkraut is among the best I have tasted. My wife goes more for the Greek fare as she is a vegetarian with a Gluten allergy. She simply raves over the greek salads, and the stuffed grape leaves. We always seem to fill up on dinner, and never have room for a Goufre for dessert. A warm welcome as soon as we entered the establishment. It was a nice to venture out and try something new. We went in for dinner. The waiter was the son of the owner and very friendly, and answered all our questions about the fare. I ordered the red beet soup with mushroom dumplings--which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered the greek salad (only item he'll pass on next time due to the price for what you get), and had 3 different pierogies. The pierogies were delicious! I really enjoyed the spinach, and he really liked the sauerkraut and mushroom. The potato and cheese were good, as well. I'm not sure what beer he ordered, but none of them he had heard of before, but enjoyed the one he chose. We followed dinner up with some pastries. The wedding cake cookies are delicious and remind me of a pecan sandie, but much better! The chocolate sponge cake was a nice treat also. All the pastries must be so good, they were low on many. It was a great experience, and a cute place to visit. We enjoyed the artwork and seeing the horse drawn carriages go while sitting by the window. We'll definitely be back on the next trip. read more

This is a special place. I heard they had the best pierogis and wanted to buy and make them for a friend's mother with Polish roots. Arrived to find the store had closed a bit early but one of the employees saw me peering thru the window. She opened for me (thank you a million times, Heather) and I bought almost two dozen frozen pierogis and a poppy seed roll. I made them according to instructions and served them as a surprise. They were a total hit and I was told these pierogis were the authentic real deal. In addition to the food and poppy seed roll being delicious, I wanted to thank the store employee again for going out of her way to help me. This is a week late but we ate here for lunch on Saturday. St Augustine is full of little restaurants but this one is unique. Two totally different cuisines in one little cozy place. This place was full at lunch time and for good reason. I had the pierogies with onions and my wife had the Greek special with the spinach pie. I first tasted true pierogies when they were hand made for me from a first generation Polish immigrant. I fell in love with them at that time. A simple dish but they are oh so good. I have had them many times since then but none as good as the first until now. These reminded me of those first ones I had almost 30 years ago. We also had the Greek special which was very tasty as well. Nice fresh ingredients made these simple dishes a pleasure to eat. Gaufres and Goods is a nice place to have a great simple meal. We had the stuffed cabbage and the gyros. Both were homemade and delicious. The gyros had real meat not processed meat they slice off a skewer. The waitress was very friendly and pleasant. We had the baklava for dessert. I would definitely recommend this place to eat at. We were walking by and a couple walks out of the restaurant and told us how good the food was. We decided to try it. Since we were new to this type of food we were slightly nervous as to what we should order, once we talked with the staff they made us feel extremely comfortable and suggested some amazing items for us. We were able to speak with the owner and let her know how much we loved her food and she was so friendly and gave us many ideas for food we would like to make ourselves. Very unique and homey place, it feels a bit like grandmas house, warm and inviting, kind of like you could stay all day eating, relaxing and talking with your family.
