The tortilla was as big as the plate. The place had the look of a southwestern restaurant with wood beams and log girders. An enjoyable ambiance for a (New) Mexican restaurant. The difference between Mexican & New Mexican is the green chiles used are from the Hatch region and they offer more than just tortillas with your meal. It is a fusion of Mexican and American. Gazpacho is one of the best restaurants my family and I went to on our trip to CO! We were in the mood for some good Mexican food, and this place came through! I got their house margarita because it was happy hour, and it was strong but really good. We split the triple dip & other salsas with chips and I really enjoyed the variety. My favorites were the guacamole and one of their salsas had more of a smokey flavor that was good. Finally, for dinner I had the Fajita salad with chicken and I was not expecting the huge salad I ended up getting! It was well worth the price because it was loaded with everything you could want! Came here for dinner bacausw it was close to our hotel. I ordered the navhos especial with ground beef. It had a good flavor but it had to much cheese. I never thought I'd say that, but this had to have had a pound of cheese on it. All you could realy taste was cheese. Don't get me wrong I lo e cheese but this was really nothing but cheese. I ordered the Sonoma tacos..... street tacos with your choice of meat. I chose the pulled beef... and it was a little too spicy for me to eat it all. They do have a sign up front that they make their salsas very spicy. The beans and rice were very bland, but nice since the meat was too spicy. Is it take out, is it a food truck, nobody knows but their priced like a nice restaurant with waiters turns out its a glorified food truck... find your own table will you get a drink refill? Doubt it go to the front grab a bartender if you want one of those lol... let's be honest Durango you are a damn tourist town and if you don't know it you better learn it fast. Some big name long lasting restaurants went under with covid and if you are going to screw around and charge insane prices for garbage service your customers are going to leave... The burger? Pretty good as was the other food I got. But that was it nothing else came. Used to get a desert at the table. Ours never came. The refill we got came when they dropped off the food that was it. Never saw another person come by after our food was dropped off. Likely because I like to use my card to pay my bill I know I'm shifty like that I'm not the hipster who uses cash lol. So probably assumed he wasn't getting a tip. And rightfully so if you don't give service you don't get a tip. Might go back as I win monthly on the radio for a 10 dollar gift certificate . What a terrific discovery! Margarita menu has something for everyone, dinner has choices I have never seen and totally enjoyed. I had a chicken stuffed sopapilla, husband had beef carne adovada. Ate delicious chips and salsa to start (definitely not store canned stuff) with the great margaritas. Learned our lesson--don't overfill with chips and dinner, leave room for sopapillas! We stopped by Gazpacho on my tour of Durango, and I really enjoyed it! I was on a bit of a margarita kick, and I ordered the house margarita. Right after I did, the bartender heard me talking about my quest for the perfect margarita, and recommended I try one of their specialty ritas next; I think it was the El Bandido? The house margarita was dece but the specialty rita was incredible. The salsa was pretty good, but didn't blow my mind. Same with the chips. I ordered a shredded chicken chalupa with tortilla soup. The soup was excellent. I love a good tortilla soup. The chalupa was .... a taco salad? It was a tortilla bowl as opposed to a flat chip, which wasn't what I was expecting. It was fine, but I was a little bummed. You can't really pick up a taco salad and take a bite, so I just ate the innards and ordered another margarita. Tequila fixes everything. I'd definitely come back here for the ambiance and great service and drinks, but I'd order a different entree and potentially skip the chips and salsa altogether. read more

Were it possible, I would give this place a negative star rating! We attempted to bring some out-.of-town guests to dinner and were sorely disappointed to be told the kitchen had closed the kitchen "because it was slow" It was 8:17!! The website lists 9:00 as closing. There were 4 people sitting comfortably in the bar enjoying their drinks and chips. Granted it was Labor Day. . . but if a restaurant posts 9:00 as closing and has nothing on website regarding 'special' hours for Labor Day then it should adhere to those hours! In a tourist town ( who just happened to be on same weekend as a major gathering of bikers) I find it incredibly foolish and extremely 'poor business' to turn customers away before the stated closing time. gazpacho's used to be a favorite choice for Mexican dining but I guess my choices will now be Fiesta Mexicans or Taco Bell. read more

When I pay $18 for an entree, I kinda expect some free chips. My entree was a jumble of food and the flavor wasn't discerning. It was all just a blend. This little place picks a big punch. Doesn't seem like much walking by, but we stopped in for lunch and started with margaritas that were perfectly crafted. Asked the waiter what he recommends and since they had just had their green chili roasting the night before, he recommended the rellenno. Great recommendation! Crust was fresh and not oily, right proportion of cheese and not too spicy. Almost ordered another, but opted for the Sopapillas instead. They were warm, soft and puffy. I love this place and I've only been here twice in a decade. The green chile stew is hearty, spicy and flavorful. A cup is a meal in itself paired with their perfect tortilla chips. The enchilada trio is huge and you can customize the three enchiladas. The adovada sauce is spicy. The rice has thinly shredded carrots and roasted corn in it and the beans are refried. The chips are again PERFECT, and served with a trio of salsas. The cauliflower bites and wings are standard pub fare. The sopapillas are puffy, pillowy, chewy goodness with honey and butter...carbs worth eating. Service is efficient and friendly. Good protocols in place during the pandemic. Well, we were seated upstairs, very steep stairs. Medium size group for a birthday party. Slow service on a Saturday afternoon 5pm. Slow chips & hot sauce , even slower drink orders. I opted to fetch beers at the bar (downstairs). Shared fajita's and later saw the bill... single order fajitas was $28. Unbelievable. It's hard to not tip correctly. But we did it here. She got $1. Bartender also got $1... he refused to accept the food check from upstairs and sent me back upstairs to deal with poor waitress. True story... will not be back here. Haven't been here for at least 7 years and I think I'll be fine if I don't return for another 7. When we walked in our noses were greeted by a strange smell which I was able to pinpoint as old fryer oil... Not a good sign. We were seated near the back which is quite dark, making it difficult to see clearly. I mean I can understand mood lighting but eh this didn't really seem like that, it was just dark. However, we did have a friendly and attentive server which made things a bit better. Chips and salsa aren't free (THREE DOLLARS?!) so we skipped that. I ordered the green chili stew, and my parents had the enchilada trio and the Gazpacho combo. The chili was actually not bad; there was a good mix of veggies and it had a nice kick. Unfortunately they didn't peel the green chilis so there was a bunch of chili skin in the stew :( The enchiladas are tiny (my dad said they were more like taquitos) but the flavor was so-so. Overall I was kind of surprised at how small the plates were, considering the descriptions made the meal sound massive. They end the meal here with free sopapillas, which I was looking forward to, but unfortunately I couldn't taste anything but old oil when I bit into the fried bread :( Props for providing Honeyville honey on the table, but it couldn't cover up the bad taste. read more

Start with a liter of the La Escalade margarita, add generous portions of hot salsa and blue corn chips, sit and enjoy. The salsa is as hot as advertised. Don't order if you can't handle the heat. Don't waste your money on the guacamole. It didn't taste that good. For dinner we both had the Carne Adovada. D had the platter and I had mine in a sopapilla, smothered in cheese and green chili. Both were heaven in the form a slow cooked tasty pork. The sopapillas for desert with local honey are also worth eating. The portions are generous, so you should plan to share or not clean your plate. The posole was pretty bad. We should have headed our waitress's subtle warning. She tried to talk us out of it. I would suggest that you be particularly nice to your server and take their suggestion for what is best. read more
