During my recent adventure to Durango, we stopped at Gaspacho's for lunch. We were seated quickly with chips and salsa to follow. It was the weekend of Snowdown, a local festival that the whole town gets into every year. All of the waitstaff was dressed up in costume. It was a very fun atmosphere! The salsa was good. We almost downed two servings of chips and salsa before our food came. They had some great lunch specials listed on the menu so I gave one a shot. I had a cheese enchilada and chicken taco combo. The sauce was a little bland and the taco was slightly soggy, but overall it did taste good and I enjoyed my meal. read more

Kick ass salsa. Chips were good but seem from a bag. Man the salsa is nice and hot. Ballsy coming out of the shoot with hot salsa like that. I like it! Two margarita samplings: Classico w hornitos. Smooth and little sweet. Cuervo more tequila taste from the gold tequila. Both good ordered the Classico second round. We are both vegetarian so we ordered off their exclusively vegetarian section of the menu. Me, cheese enchiladas...except they were different. Blue corn tortilla, cheese, blue corn tortilla, cheese, blue corn tortilla, cheese, in a stack. Who doesn't like cheese? Who doesn't like the red chile sauce they slather all over the blue corn cheese stack then bake? Enchiladas the conventional way aren't as stylish as the New Mexican way. My wife had the veggie stuffed sopapillas, which is the hip way of making a bean and cheese burrito. She also chose the flavorful red chile sauce for the slathering. We enjoyed sharing, and we were both surprised that we finished our plates. They serve local honey from Honeyville with their great complimentary sopapillas. Be prepared for a less than stellar ambiance. You order right when you walk in, find your own table and are given a number for the table. It definitely took away from the wonderful Mexican restaurant feel it had years ago. read more

I had been to Gazpacho's many times before and it will never dissapoint if you want a great meal of new mexican food. I had their chips and salsa with some con queso dip. The chips were fresh and the salsa had some great kick but the queso was melted process "stuff"and can be skipped. For an entree I had red enchiladas with blue corn and they were delicious. The refried beans were good and as always the mexican rice was yucky. I dont like mexican rice and I should have done double beans... Overall a great mexican dinner. read more

5 STARS for the SoCal tequila jalepeno-infused margarita. But disappointed in the pork green chili stew. Used to be delicious but the last 4-5 times I was there, stew was bland and had zero pork - just veggies. I would also avoid the nacho as there was too much cheese and couldn't enjoy the flavor of the meat. read more

I really wanted to go to the Durango Diner. I'm just saying. Stupid diner was closed at 2 pm. Where am I? Oh yeah. I'm in Durango. Friend recommended this place and since the stupid diner was closed I figured I'd give this place a roll. I had the Carne Adovada Plate. Tender pieces of pork marinated in red chile and spices, then slow roasted in the oven. This spicy dish is a true reflection of New Mexican cuisine, served with Spanish rice, refried beans and a warm flour tortilla. That is the description on the menu. The pork was succulent and spicy as advertised. Was this all worth $11? Not sure. Probably not. I was expecting more food. read more

We come to Durango at least monthly and Gazpacho's is our first stop after landing. Covid changed some processes, but either sit in bar and get bartender service or order at front desk and find a spot inside or outside under the tent. Food is really good. Reasonable prices and service good. Have NM style cooking from hot to mild. Building is interesting architecture and adds character. Best cantina in town. read more

We are from Texas and I had never tried New Mexican cuisine. This place was a block from the Best Western. I ordered a sopapilla. In Texas, this is a dessert, but at this restaurant, it's a meat filled light pastry covered in cheese and chili. OMG, I could only eat half as it was so filling. Absolutely delicious. The worst food we've had in quite some time. Utterly tasteless. You can get more flavor at Taco Bell for way less money. Enchiladas had dry shredded chicken with no spices. Chintzy serving of green chili wasn't savory or even spicy. Gazpacho's used to be one of our favorite restaurants here in Durango. We will never go back. read more

Had the carne adovada burrito and it was incredible. Red Chile was best I have had. Rich, slightly sweet and hot.

I have to post a review. This place makes N Mexico enchiladas like they do in Santa Fe and the carne Adovada brought tears to my eyes! Good sopapillas and Margaritas too. This place is really relaxed and down home feeling. We will return next time we are anywhere near Durango. read more

We decided to try the taco Tuesday $2.50 tacos. You only have one option- carne asada that doesn't look or taste like any carne asada I've ever had. I do not recommend. The service was incredible and we got our appetizers as soon as we sat down. You order when you enter the restaurant and then you're seated. But the food didn't make me want to go back a second time. I've considered this might have been the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. With as much Mexican food as this girl has enjoyed, trust me when I admit that is a tall order to fill. Fresh, warm tortilla chips with hot salsa while you wait. These chips are addictive. The vegan burger (one of my ALL TIME favorites. I had two while in town...) has a slice of soy cheese and a ridiculous, magical heaping pile of green chilies atop it. It's impossible to tackle the thing without making a mess. I recommend never letting it leave your hand and adding avocado just because I live life on the edge. Fries are a little salty. If that bothers you, just ask that they don't salt them. $3-$6 margaritas. Well worth it. I have had horrible luck with having enough room left for the free warm sopapilla (like a square, puffy piece of fried dough served with a side of honey butter for you nonvegans) at the end of the meal. This place is seriously filling and easy on the old wallet. If you are in the area, you must come here. read more

Our first time here in Durango and we wanted to eat somewhere close to our hotel. The outside of it is so cute with the teal bar stools and a large patio area. When you walk inside to order there's another menu with details of the food. The hostess with one blue and one brown eye was very informative, professional and funny. Along with the rest of the staff that serviced us, they were so friendly and attentive. Good was AMAZING! We both got a burrito with taquitos along with chips and salsa. Gazpacho Restaurant was recommended by the front desk clerk at Fairfield Residence Inn. My husband and I were in town for 1 night and asked for a good local Mexican restaurant to dine at. We were so pleased with Sam our waiter, the atmosphere, service and excellent meal we had. So very tasty and delicious. Chips & salsa were great too. Highly recommend this local treasure. I went to Gazpacho for the first time in 2 years last week and figured I'd write an update to say that we still love this place. We had our usual - carne adovada for me, enchiladas with red chile for my wife. Both with posole and whole pinto beans. I also sampled their Heradura Silver margaritas, at the recommendation of the waitress. They are very good and very strong. The sopaipillas (which we always save for dessert) were excellent and the service was great, as usual. Still our favorite Mexican restaurant in Durango that stands up well to most New Mexican restaurants even in Santa Fe. read more

This is within close walking distance to the Wyndham Resort, so we walked over here for dinner. The food was very good. I wasn't fond of having to pay $3 for chips and salsa, but the chips and salsa were tasty and refilled once without additional charge. I ordered the sopapilla (chicken), and it was wonderful. We had a party of 4, and we were asked by the server if we'd like sour cream on the side with our enchilada and sopapilla dinners. We agreed. I was disappointed that it was $1.25/each for the sour cream in a little cup. The dinners I felt were rather pricey. Two tacos for $14.00? Anyway, food is good here. I just don't appreciate it not being disclosed when "something on the side" is offered by the server and the additional price is not. Fish tacos, special of the night, were very good. First off, My name is Ryan and I'm a Queso-holic. Their queso was friggin awesome. I don't want to go a Guy Fieri on here, but it was fresh tasting, creamy, not too thin, not too thick, and just plain DYNAMITE! Before I finish the review I'll turn my sun glasses forward and unbleach my hair... I kid I kid. The entrees were well portioned and cooked well. I would compare them to an average Tex Mex joint down South. Not bad but nothing to rave about. The queso was so good that I would definitely go back there again solely based on that. One other thing to mention is that we ordered take out and dined in our condo. While it was less than 100 yards away from our condo, I always feel it to be a little unfair to grade a restaurant based on their take out since they have no control over their food once it leaves the front door. read more

My partner and I ate here twice during our stay in Durango and Cortez. The reason: the gluten free green chile. It is hot and spicy, and smothered over their chicken enchiladas, it was one of the most delicious things I have had in a looooong time. It is rare that I can eat the stuff, most places thicken their chile with flour, which is delicious, but off-limits to me. They label their menu with gluten free items. The only thing I am not a fan of--they put cheese in everything--and a lot of it. Next time, I would have them hold the cheese entirely. The meal ends with sopapillas, as in, they come with the meal, so I skipped those, but a nice touch. The service was interesting both times, the first night, our server had fallen in the kitchen, but was recovering like a champ. The food came out at lightening speed. The next day, our server, a female, was fine, but she would not stop playing with her hair. I am by no mean the "server police," but I was worried that with all that playing, her hair was gonna land in my food. Again, food out at lightening speed. All was delicious. I wish this place was closer to Denver, I want some green chile right now! read more

My fear got the best of me and I ordered fajitas as a seemingly safe fallback. The plate was very greasy and the rice was bland instant rice. Awesome food, and the staff are great. Bar made the wrong drinks and they not only foxed them but comped the next 2 rounds!

The chips and hot sauce are almost the best we have ever eaten. If you like hot and spicy, this is "IT". If you like wimpy, blah, hot sauce, don't eat this. The food was excellent. The stuffed sopapilla was one of the best I have ever eaten. The service was excellent. Kayleigh, our server, did an outstanding job.
