Hot Dry Noodles with Tomato and Egg with Minced Pork/ 热干拌西红柿鸡蛋肉臊面
    Lynn N.

One of the best hand pulled noodles I have ever had! We came here on a rainy day, and got immediately seated. The restaurant is small and they cramp up the tables to maximize seating. Regardless, service is extremely fast, and we got our food only minutes after we ordered. The tomato egg with minced pork I got was delicious. It was flavorful, noodles chewy, and not dry at all (though I would love a touch more sauciness). The spare ribs we also got were tender and stewed perfectly. I had a great time here and would go again!

Beef Noodles with Pickled Cabbage/ 酸菜牛肉面 - delicious and satisfying!

This is what I would call a hole in the wall. You don't come here for the ambience, you come here for the excellent food! The server was really sweet and very earnest in making sure I would be happy with my meal! I had their beef noodles with pickled cabbage. WOW, it was epic. Huge bowl and very delicious. The noodles were excellent! Satisfying chew. The pickled cabbage was a bit spicy, very bold and salty too. Definitely not for those with a delicate constitution. But if you like a wee kick in your mouth, this is perfect. I really recommend this spot if you want a great giant bowl of delicious noodle soup!

This place is one of my downtown go to spots when I want a solid, comforting meal. The beef noodle soup is rich and hearty with tender meat and chewy noodles, and the tomato egg noodles is great as well. The space is small and a bit cramped but feels cozy, and the staff are friendly and quick. I've been here many times, and I don't plan on stopping.

Special Lanzhou beef noodles medium wide

A small noodle spot that gets quite busy during dinner time. We came around 9:45 on a Friday night and we waited about 10 mins for a table. It was still busy when we arrived but most people started leaving shortly after. We got the braised beef brisket noodles (one size) with extremely wide noodles and a small special Lanzhou beef noodles with medium wide noodles mild spice. The spice is no joke! Even our friend who can deal with spice pretty well considered this place to be spicy, mainly because the spice level includes numbing. The noodles were thick and chewy and soup was flavourful.

Cross posting since I think my fellow yelpers would appreciate this more:) Have been here many times for years but i noticed that the waitresses are all different from before and the service is so bad now. I noticed a strand of thin hair inside my water cup -- it was clearly hair. When I brought it to the attention of one of the waitresses, the old lady abruptly raised her voice and insisted, "It's lemon." She was so loud and everyone in the store was looking at me. I was genuinely surprised by her reaction and asked, "Do lemons grow long hair? Can u take another look and give me a new cup of water?" She responded firmly, "If I say it's lemon, then it's lemon!!!!" Fortunately, a younger staff member came over, took a quick look, apologized right away, and removed the cup. However, I could still hear the older woman in the background repeatedly insisting it was just lemon. Tbh, let's put it aside the fact that there is hair in my water, the service after they see the hair and still manage to go ahead with loud lies makes me very disappointed. Good food gets customers in ur store, good service will have them comeback again and again. But I doubt I will come back again until they train their staff:) The situation was handled unprofessionally at first, though I appreciated the younger staff member's prompt response. Also the spice oil is really spicy now, I used to be able to have medium spicy for sure now I cough even for mild. It's like chokingly spicy.

The place was packed when we went at 7 pm, the service is great, there is one guy taking care of what looks like the whole restaurant, and he was on point! There was a food runner working with him, and they were absolutely fantastic with the orders and the food can quite fast. The apps were quite small, but to be honest this has to be the best deal for soup in town. I don't know another place that serves food from a bowl that I could fit into as a child if I wanted to sit inside of it. The noodles I wish were a little chewier, but the broth was well flavoured. Overall our experience was better than expected. Thank you to everyone working there the night we had dinner in this establishment! You made our experience wonderful.

Braised spare ribs noodles in sauce

This place is a great downtown gem for authentic hand pulled noodles. Tiny restaurant across the atrium. Came here for dinner and the staff gave a table right away. I ordered Braised spare ribs noodles in sauce with flat noodles. The noodles were good al dente and chewy bouncy which is really liked. The broth is very flavourful and the spare ribs were soft and tender. I really liked this place specially in the cold winter nights.

We've returned after 6 years and this place is equally delicious! No change in quality or quantity. The noodles are freshly made and the broth is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the staff are very kind. Don't know when we'll return to Toronto, but when we do, we'll be sure to return.

Toronto must have the best noodle shops in the world if this one only has 4 stars. Everything was fantastic and super fast! It's a small spot and it fills up fast, but they move folks in and out pretty quickly. Really enjoyed this, and I'm hoping I can get back to try some of the other stuff on the menu.

    The mega special with thick

This place has amazing noodles. The lemon water definitely had lemon not hair so I don't know if it looked the same. The beef tendon was soft and flavourful. The broth was so good the only thing was it was spicy I wish they would have warned me but I also have a low spice tolerance. The whole meal was warm and comforting. The service was fast enough and our server was nothing special. The decor was nothing special yet everything was clean enough and the whole point is the food so that was a definite thumbs up.

The noodles we order it so balance ,everything is great, the service is good and friendly, we came back from Alberta just for this. Comfort food it is.

Spicy Braised Beef - 90% fat
    Jason G.

I ordered the Spicy braised beef, the soup base tasted good, I've had better, the noodles were cooked perfectly, nice and fresh, but my main issue was with the braised beef, it honestly tasted like the beef was previously frozen or at least some bits tasted like it, i understand that there is a bit of fat that is served with this, i always take it out, but man, there was mostly fat and very little beef, the serving was large overall, but again very little beef. if you love beef fat, and i know there are many, this soup for you, if i ever order from this place again, i will stick to the sliced beef soups. But honestly, the place down the street, mogouyan, is so much better.

I am taiwanese and I have to say this was delicious. There is someone actually making noodles in the back. Service was quick and very nice and upbeat. Our server, Sophia, was bubbly and friendly, giving suggestions and helping with the ordering process for the other person who wasn't as sure what they wanted. We eventually went with two appetizers and two entrees, which was more than enough food, and honestly, we could have only ordered one appetizer. The better of the two appetizers was the CAD 8.95 Hand Shredded Pepper Chicken/手撕椒麻雞/Shou Si Ji. The dish consists of cold chicken in a flavorful sauce, topped with some greens. The chicken was tender, with a mild, pleasant spice and a bit of numbingness from the Sichuan peppercorns, along with some fragrance, presumably from sesame oil. It reminded me a bit of salivating chicken you find in some Szechuan spots, but it was more aromatic and a bit less spicy. The other appetizer was the Steamed Edamame/岩鹽毛豆 with Himalayan pink salt for CAD 5.95. The other person chose between this and the vegetable dumplings, as he avoids pork, and it was, of course, lighter than the other appetizer. The decent portion of edamame was topped with some pickled carrots as a garnish. My main dish was the Braised Beef Noodles/紅燒牛肉面/Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian. The dish included several options, including size, noodle style, and spice level. I chose the large for CAD $20.95, medium spice, and for the noodle style, I chose flat/宽面, as it was closest to the prism style I like at Lanzhou spots in the States. Along with these, I also added a tea egg for an extra CAD 2.95. Outside the add-on, the dish also had a couple of large slices of radish. Compared to some spots in NYC, I slightly preferred the QQ/bouncy texture of the noodles at a spot near me. However, the broth was better here with a balanced amount of mala, though I would likely order spicy next time, as I tend to add chili oil to the relatively lighter Lanzhou broths. The beef was also much better, being tender with a mild chew regardless of whether it was tendon or other cuts. The tea egg was flavorful and worth the add-on, especially when the inside was dipped further into the broth. I can see why others order this. The other person went with the Signature Stir-fried Noodles/招牌炒面/Chao Tatiaozi. There was an option of protein, and he went with Chicken for $17.95 and added the same egg. I tried a bit, and there was a pleasant pepperiness with a bit of numbing flavor, but less than my dish. The noodles had a good bounciness and overall had a slightly better chewiness than mine. This was lighter overall, but also tasty. This spot has apparently come to the US already at the Mall of America, and I would love it if there were a location closer to me. Good place.

We decided to walk up to Queen Street to see something we hadn't seen and seemed like a good area with a wide variety of restaurants. I was almost writing this review for the one on Dundas Street, but realized there are a few locations in downtown. Glad I double checked. We walked up along Spadina to Queen, not all the way up to Dundas. We were weighing options, but we were unsure what we wanted and struggled. We almost ended up at another restaurant with live music outside, but we weren't being served and wasn't enthusiastic about their menu. So, we looked at a couple of options. We didn't want Chipotle or Chick Fil-A; I can get that anytime as I live near those in Maryland. Also, I wanted cuisine that was harder to find near where I live. Ultimately, we settled on Mogouyan Hand-Pulled Noodles. After a lot of hunger trying to decide, this ended up being an excellent choice. Server was friendly answering our questions. It was moderately priced. We got their hand-pulled noodles, which was a large bowl, and was delicious with beef, veggies, & plenty of noodles. I also got their Japanese Toki brand whiskey. This was a FINE choice at a reasonable price. We got into some conversation with the server about being from the US and various other topics. This was an excellent experience, highly recommend.
