The tomato broth was light, flavourful, and not overly salty, which I really enjoyed. It's great that they offer free refills on noodles and rice, so you'll definitely leave full and satisfied. The servers were super friendly and attentive too, when we asked for takeout boxes, they not only packed everything neatly but even added extra broth for us! Such a nice touch. The showy and not necessary massive tray of cold and raw accompaniments is a little too space consuming (table for 2 is too small for two people). I'm not sure if there's unlimited free noodles, as the waiter asked a few times if I wanted more. If the portion wasn't as big, I would have definitely accepted the offer for more noodles. Wow this place was great! Quite a few number of options, great prices (especially for a downtown location), very good food, friendly service, and free refills (on rice, noodles, and broth)! I got N10 - the FuDao rice noodle in curry soup ($10.99) and thought the broth was so , finished up all my broth and got a refill for my second bowl of noodles. It comes with the toppings pictured in the menu (pork, corn, mushrooms, etc) as well. The broth was super creamy and delicious and was like liquidized curry sauce made into soup! The prices were great for what you're getting (and I wouldn't even factor the refills into that!) and the food is overall just really good. I simply can not rave enough about this place!! Very good price for the amount and quality of food! This is another place that serves crossing the bridge noodles (a boiling hot broth with toppings on the side that you add into the soup to cook/warm up) with unlimited noodle refills. They have a wide variety of soup bases ranging from original to pickled cabbage to tomato to spicy ones. My personal favourites are the thai curry (not too spicy) and tomato. They are always adding new flavours such as the recent tom yum. Each soup comes with a bowl of rice noodles and 10 toppings with meat. Sometimes the toppings are on rotation but you usually get: a quail egg, corn, black fungas, fish tofu, shrimp, squid/ham/sausage slices, corn, and tofu skin. It is recommended to put in the meat first into the soup to cook it. Most of the toppings are cooked already so it is just reheated in the soup. NOTE: When you receive your plate of toppings, you can ask to switch out a few for other ones instead! TIP: If you go before 5pm, they have a 'lunch' special where you get a soup combo with an appetizer and a pop for $10.99!! Previously their combo was a cold appetizer instead of their hot ones. Side Dishes: For their hot ones, the deep fried cuttlefish balls are my absolute favourite. They come in an amazing sauce as well. The takoyaki is not bad but a little bit too doughy for my taste. Service is pretty good you can see a waitress going around from time to time checking up on water refills. This restaurant specializes in crossing bridge rice noodle soup, which you might have seen with the platter of a ingredients beside a stone bowl of hot broth and a bowl of rice noodles on the side. They have a dozen different soup bases for you to choose from whether you like it spicy, sour, or something light. I ordered the new kimchi soup. It arrived in about 10 minutes, but it was hot and visibly boiling in the bowl. Had a nice flavor; not too salty not too spicy. The soup was quite light in texture, not too much grease, and easy to go down. There's enough soup for two or three refills of noodles if you have a larger appetite. The ingredients provided include a piece of shrimp, mushrooms, chinese sausage, ground meat, sliced meat, and tofu, which is a pretty nice mix. But I powered through it and it ended up being good. So point is, don't get the pickled vegetable with pork broth unless you know what you're getting into! I wish I could come here to try more soups. If you dine at Fudao, you should expect a very generous portion of food (due to their unlimited noodle refill) for an extremely reasonable price. However, what stops me from giving this place a higher rating is that I didn't find myself wanting more throughout the meal. I tried the Fudao rice noodle and thai curry and Teppan grill squid skewer. I expected the squid to have a nice grilled/smoky taste but when it came to the table, it appeared to have just been boiled(?) and dipped in sauce. The rice noodle dish presentation is pleasant at first, but then you have to dump all the sides immediately into the boiling pot in order to have everything cooked properly. Once this is done, it becomes just like any other noodle dish. The meat was actually surprisingly soft/tender but only 3 pieces will come with the meal. Regardless, Fudao does seem to be a popular restaurant in Toronto and was packed when I came, so perhaps it's worth a visit. Personally though, if I was back in town, I wouldn't go out of my way for it unless I just wanted to get full for a cheap price. read more

One day when you're in the heart of Downtown Toronto's Chinatown and you wonder to yourself "Where can I get a bowl of authentic Chinese noodles with flavourful soup?" - I hope you keep in mind Fudao Noodle House. Situated right on Spadina Road in the heart of Chinatown, Fudao cannot be beat with its excellent service, atmosphere and authentic touches. I made a visit there during Valentines' day - the perfect love for a foodie has to be trying out some new food, and I'm flattered that I was cordially invited to try the selection at Fudao Noodle House! We had arrived fairly early, so we were lucky to grab some clean shots of the restaurant itself - shortly after we settled in for our lunch, immediately a lot of customers shuffled in. We were also greeted personally by the manager and he led us to our table so we could start our order. On the tables were the menus, where you were given a marker and you literally mark down what items that you wanted. I thought this was a very effective way of taking orders from customers - it was a similar concept to ordering dim sum in the restaurants. The menus were made spectacularly and made me want to order all their food! Of course though, we had to be mindful of finishing what we could! My partner and I started off with some sides - we were served Pork Ribs seasoned with sesame seeds alongside Grilled Squid Tentacles. The pork ribs to my partner tasted delicious, and really packed flavour for him. I believe that it was tasty too, however I hope next time that the pork ribs would be less sweet and more salty. The grilled squid tentacles were very nice however, it was seasoned with sesame seeds as well and held a nice, smoky flavour from the grill. Prior to receiving the main course (which my partner and I ordered the Fudao Rice Noodle in Spicy Soup and the Fudao Original Soup in Mini Hotpot) we got a variety of sides that would be incorporated into our hotpot or soup bowls. This included a beautiful display of beef brisket, shrimp, corn, sliced meats, quail egg, and other vegetables that would be added into the soup to add taste and flavour. Shortly after, we were greeted with exquisite china filled with delicious broths. My partner's Spicy Soup came bubbling to our table, ready to be mixed with all the sides that were given to us. In addition, my Original Fudao Soup got a chance to be prepared in a hot-pot style on a mini burner, which I thought added a nice touch to the experience. Usually, hotpot is served in group styles, but this particular menu choice allows the customer to enjoy a little hotpot all to themselves! It was certainly a great experience to have. Each of the soups came with a special sauce, which consisted of same kind of blend of oil and a peanut blended sauce, which was splendid for me because it reminded me of the sauce that I would eat with the traditional "Goi Cuon" in a Vietnamese dining experience. My partner had a differing opinion about the sauce, he wasn't too much of a fan. However, this is solely due to preference as oppose to the actual taste of the sauce. On an objective note, it was definitely a nice touch to have for the flavours being incorporated into the dish. The drinks that were served to us also added to the authenticity of Fudao - this is basically the "Fanta" of Beijing! They had imported this special drink right to their restaurant and I believe it was extremely tasty - especially due to its bottling. I almost end up ordering more than I can eat because everything on their menu is Delicious. Soup: Spicy Pepper Soup This base is my favourite & probably the most spiciest of the lot. It's got just theright amount of pepper, touch of sourness & a bowl full of flavour. This base in no way compromises on its flavour due to the spices. I love going to Fudao Noodle House to get my fix for Crossing the Bridge noodles. They have a good variety of broths that you can choose from and they range in spice level. My favourite broths are the Thai Curry and the Spicy and Sour. For those of you who aren't familiar with Crossing the Bridge noodles, you get the broth in this burning hot stone pot separate from 10 different toppings and the noodles which are unlimited refills, and c'mon, who can say no to that? You put the rolls of meat they give you or you can order extra toppings into your broth like slices of pork, lamb or beef, or even beef/fish balls. Then you put the rest of the toppings in there, the noodles and voila! I haven't come by in a while and I came when it was relatively steady but the service was still on point. They've refilled my water and asked if everything was okay ever so often. I also have a shellfish sensitivity so I don't add the shrimp they provide as an extra topping, but when I went on my last visit, they offered to swap it for another ingredient I could eat. It was great customer service and something I don't really see other places that offer Crossing the Bridge noodles doing. Toronto is getting a craze of noodle houses! Came in on a weeknight on a warm spring day and we were very lucky that there was no line. Seated immediately and was prompted with some salty peanuts as a snack. Menu is not extensive which is good for indecisive people. There was maybe 8 soup bases to choose from, and many add ons/ small appetizers to share. I choose the regular soup base which was very flavourful and not milky in texture (unlike dagu's soup base which i find a bit more rich and milky). Each noodle soup comes with 10 ingredients ranging from fish tofu, shrimp, tripe, veggies, 3 pieces of meat (i think it was lamb), quail egg, bamboo shoots and a couple of other ingredients. Once you recieve the bubbling soup, you immediately dump your ingredients in so it can cook for a longer period of time. very similar concept to hot pot but just not all you can eat! haha Once you get your soup you are also provided with a bowl of rice noodles. I find the noodles here super chewy and tasty. It is already somewhat seasoned even before putting it in the soup! Noodles are also unlimited so if you're not full with one bowl you can keep ordering more and more noodles! As side dishes, we ordered the seaweed salad. Not the typical sushi seaweed salad, a thicker and more real tasting seaweed seasoned with some seasame oil and green onions. Very tasty and fair for the price (4.99 for a good size dish), and also the popcorn chicken. Nothing too much to rave about the popcorn chicken but it was a nice added touch to eat while waiting for the noodles to come. Service was fast and super friendly. And based on my experience, it's best to visit during a weekday for dinner than between Friday to Sunday, or else you will definitely need to wait in line. There was a Friday that I went at 9PM, it was packed even after we finished eating. ITS THAT CRAZY, for noodles. Eating at Fudao is super simple. On the sheet of menu/paper they provide, just follow their instructions. Step 1: Pick your soup base that ranges from mild to spicy. Step 2: If you don't want their signature noodle, pick whatever else you like. Most people order their rice noodles that come in a stone bowl with the noodles and 10 toppings served on the side. The best part about this restaurant is you get free noodle refills if the first bowl doesn't fill you. And secondly, if there are toppings within the 10 you don't like, you can exchange for something else more suitable to your tastes. But to be honest (after eating at Fudao twice so far), some of those toppings I still have no clue exactly what they are. My most recommended soup base is the Fudao Rice Noodle in Thai Curry Soup. For someone who doesn't eat that much spice, this base is perfect. Although it has one chili sign next to it, it's not too bad at all. While you dump in all the toppings and noodles to fill the bowl, the curry soup simmers and mix together everything deliciously. The curry soup gives a kick to your meal yet it blends in well. Fudao is best eaten when the weather is cold too. I also have to give credit to their noodles as its really well done in terms of texture and chewy-ness. Two interesting things I would say is that sometimes it's quite difficult to find back all the toppings I've dumped into the soup since they are so small. But it's also fun to dig around for them, it's like exploring for treasure in an ocean. And secondly, the background YouTube music videos and songs they always play is super hipster! The soup bases are all very flavorful, and the noodles have great texture, not to mention the unlimited noodle refill. Great for a student budget. I usually get the shredded pork and pickled cabbage soup. Usually, the meatiness of the soup would be covered by the pickled cabbage taste, but here, you can distinctively taste the pork, and it's delicious. I've also tried the spicy and sour soup, but that one tasted a bit more artificial. You get a standard set of toppings in little dishes that you mix into the boiling cauldron of soup first, followed by the bowl of noodles. The noodles gradually soak up the flavors from the soup. One order of noodles is more than enough to satisfy most people. The popcorn chicken and smashed cucumber in garlic sauce are good choices for sides. This place gets quite busy with students, but there's ample seating so the wait time doesn't get too bad. The tables are quite close to each other, so getting in and out can be a bit uncomfortable for those with the inside seat. Other than that, not too much complaints. Great and affordable Chinese noodle place! Usually these noodle houses have bland basic soup bases, but I absolutely love Fudao's! It's very flavourful and reminiscent of pork or beef bone soup. Best part is the unlimited noodle refills! The noodles are a very nice rice noodle with a bouncy texture. Would definitely recommend coming here! read more

One of my favorite places for noodle soup. If you like thai curry then I would recommend getting their thai curry soup. All soups come with various meats and vegetables which can be substituted if you ask the staff. If you run out of noodles you can ask for more with no extra charge. After my first visit to the place I have added it to my must visit regularly list. read more

Nothing bad to say about this place! The price was amazing for the amount of food you get. We got the larger portioned meals that come on a burner with extra sides and dipping sauce for $12-13 which was only $1-2 more than the reg portion (price difference for different broths). My boyfriend got the original and I had the tomato broth. Both were delicious! The service was great as well. They offered to refill our broths half way through our meal and always refilled our water without being asked. Definitely coming back! We also received 10% off our bill for checking in on yelp. read more
