Unbelievable huge menu. We went to the Alden Rodeo and found this restaurant on Yelp. We ordered a turkey dinner,Large Polish Platter, Potato Pancake dinner, Chicken Pot pie, Strip steak dinner, burgers ,chicken fingers,Prime Rib, Crab Cakes and a blooming onion So there are mixed reviews on the food. WOW! We found this place on our way home from Buffalo. What a surprise and amazing treat. It was like stepping back in time. Great atmosphere, the menu is huge and looks to be largely homemade and several polish dishes. I got the pierogies with German potato salad and French onion soup, and a side of gloumpki (stuffed cabbage). It was so much food but I wanted to try it all. All delicious!! My husband and I have been going to GDI's for several years now. It's become our favorite "Go to' restaurant. We've tried many of their dishes, and every one is great! Roast beef, fish fry, chicken dinner...salads, sandwiches...desserts... all superb. Their homemade soups are excellent, as well. AND if by chance you like Polish dishes, this is the place for you! I've never seen a menu with such a huge variety, and everything is delicious. The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting. Plus, the staff is always courteous and very welcoming, too. In my opinion this restaurant is outstanding. The menu is unbelievable. It has everything from turkey dinners to Giant polish dinner The meals are prepared fresh. You may have to wait a little bit but waiting is well worth it. I had the Polish dish from pierogies to sauerkraut to grumpy's Polish, sausage, fresh and smoked A baked potato and clam chowder. Everything was just wonderful the service was right on the ball from asking for a glass of beer to fill in the water. They were right there. Came with my husband and one of my children. We were pleasantly greeted and offered a huge menu that included the largest children's menu that I've ever seen. Good variety of meal options. My husband ordered a meatball hoagie with crinkle cut fries and he was happy. I enjoyed the chicken wing soup but the chicken pot pie was really overcooked. My child chose a "4 oz filet mignon" and asked that it be cooked medium well. It certainly didn't look like filet and was so overcooked; looking like a hockey puck. She didn't want us to say anything and chose to eat it despite complaining that it was dry and tasteless. Her meal came with mashed potatoes and she enjoyed those. The children's meals come with ice cream, something that made her evening a little more tasty. read more

Delicious New Year's Eve dinner! We were seated in the lower room, next to a very warm fireplace. We had two drinks, the Summerberry Salad (so good!) and a Surf-n-Turf. Food was perfect, and the staff were amazing, from start to finish. We had not been here in a few years, and this will not happen, going forward. Prices were very fair. I cannot say enough about how well the staff worked together. Excellent service. I will not hesitate to recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone. Only issue was the table near us, with 5 adults and two young girls. The youngest was allowed to stand on the table (twice) during dinner, crawl on the floor and remove her shoes and socks, and then vault herself backwards off of her high chair. (She was maybe 5?) She screamed several times, and dropped her IPad on the floor, so her Grandmother slapped her across the face! I was shocked. Another just-seated table saw this and immediately asked to be moved. This is not the fault of this fine restaurant, but parents: if you cannot handle behavior without resorting to a face slap, STAY HOME. Kudos to the staff for not missing a beat during this spectacle. Husband and I went for a date night this past Friday, 9/17. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for months and we are so glad we finally made the time to go. What a fantastic place! Old fashioned and homey with a huge menu! We both had an order of french onion soup and shared an order of the stuffed hot peppers as an appetizer. I have to say hands down, this was the BEST french onion soup I have ever had (and I order it a lot if I am out and see it offered on a menu). The stuffed hot peppers were also very good. My husband had the prime rib as his entree and I had the seafood platter. The piece of haddock was cooked perfectly. My husband said this was one of the best meals out he has ever had. We can't wait to come back and bring our son! For those complaining about slow service, keep in mind that they, like many businesses these days, are extremely short staffed. Aside from the kitchen staff, the entire restaurant (bar included) and all patrons were being serviced by only 4 employees - 2 bartenders and one busser and one "soup and salad" person. Those 4 people were literally running their butts off all night - their service was impeccable. We will be back soon I am sure of it. :) read more

I love eating here! We always get the fish fry and everything is homemade, right down to the salads. It's always hot and fresh. Place is very clean. My only complaint is that they charge a 3% fee for using a credit card. Hardly anyone carries cash anymore and we get penalized for it! read more

Ate here last Friday night to celebrate our Anniversary. We splurged and bought appetizers which we never do but, what the heck, it was our anniversary. I had sweet potato fries and my husband had shrimp cocktail. GDI has the best fries I've ever had. However, the shrimp cocktail was WAY too pricey. On the top of the menu it says it's 99cents. Recently had an early Thanksgiving dinner with 20 family members in the cozy banquet room of GDI. Karen was very accommodating when we were planning our luncheon. We were offered the banquet room on that Saturday even though the restaurant would not be open. We had our choice of the full menu and the early bird menu. I had the early bird turkey dinner with so much tender and moist turkey that I had enough for another meal at home. Our family all enjoyed their food ranging from steak, fish fry, chicken wings, and a kids menu. We were given separate checks. Prices are reasonable. Service was excellent. We would definitely recommend GDI for your next meal or banquet. We will definitely be returning for meals and more family get togethers. read more

We went out last night for Valentines day.We had a 7pm reservation.We were seated at 7:45.Once seated we waited 20 minutes and a waitress never even addressed us.It was obvious they were understaffed & overwhelmed.We could see there were unoccupied tables but the staff were just too busy to even seat more people.They couldnt keep up with the ones they had. We ended up leaving without so much as anyone asking us if we wanted something to drink.I would think any restaurant would have prepared for this evening seeing as it was Valentines day.This is the second time we have been here and the second time we had bad or no service.We will not be back. read more

Cons: Not the place to go if you're on a tight schedule: Somewhat slow. Of note, the wait staff tends to huddle and converse among themselves at the back dining room register, to the kitchen staff, and into the bar area, sometimes rather loudly, as if they're chatting in their own living room, totally unphased that diners are sitting right there. (In all fairness, if you're completely at the opposite end of that particular dining room or in the other room this has less impact on you.) Have seen many diners get up & go to the register to pay since server takes so long returning to them. All said, though I'd go there from time to time take-away is primarily the better way for me to enjoy their menu options. read more

We have had dinner here several times over the years and the food has always been good. The service has always been a bit slow but never like what we experienced last Thursday night. My husband and I arrived about 6:10pm with our family. We have 5 children so we knew our party would need to be split among two tables per our lovely Governor which was no big deal. Our plan was to take the kids out for a nice dinner and then over to Stoney Brook to see the Christmas lights. They seemed steady upon arrival but we were seated right away. Once seated it took nearly 15 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and take our drink order. During this time I had made sure that all of my children had reviewed the menu and decided on their dinner order since we also had a 13 month old baby who does not like to sit for too long. So after taking our drink order I immediately told our waitress that we were ready to order and wanted to place our order. With no hesitation she looked me in the eyes and said, " I can't take your order now, I have three tables waiting ahead of you. I can only get your drinks now. " and she walked away. I get you might be busy and a tad overwhelmed but to tell a table with small children that you can't take their order after they just waited 15 minutes for you to even show up for their drink order set me back a bit. 10 minutes later our waitress took our dinner order. My three sons all wanted to order the pot pie and even asked the waitress if it was good. She stated that they were out of the larger one but that the mini was good as well. So they placed their order. One hour and 50 minutes later our food arrived. At this point the baby was out of her mind and the kids were all miserable and what they received was an over cooked Marie Collender pot pie. I know this because I buy a case of them at Bjs each week for $11.99 . One was so over cooked that I had to exchange my meal with my son so that he could at least eat something. The crust was completely burnt. I was shocked that she even thought bringing it out to our table was a good idea but I guess with it nearing now 9pm that she thought "what the hell". I cut into it and all the moisture was gone. It would have served as a hockey puck better than a meal. A different waitress came and checked on us and we did address it and the item was removed from our bill but what the hell GDI's. You have ALWAYS been known for having good homemade food. To sell a frozen Pot pie on your menu for $9.99 each as if it were fresh is highway robbery. I paid our bill because I do understand with Covid that we are all just trying to get by and that is why we chose to support our local businesses but Come on.... your menu is a little more expensive than some of your competitors so please don't try and sell your customers short. I also understand that our waitress may have been stressed but table side manors need to be addressed. She needs to remember that us patrons are the ones who pay her salary. If she can't keep up with some of the younger staff members than maybe waiting tables isn't your thing anymore. Word of mouth goes a Long way. I have always recommended GDI's to fellow colleagues and clients of mine but that all ended as of Thursday night. I hope that this serves as a wake up call to whoever the owners are and that if you don't change your ways you too will fall victim to this pandemic. Not because the business isn't there but because you don't know how to keep it when you've got it. read more

Literally my favorite restaurant in the world, and I've traveled the globe. Huge menu with the finest quality, fresh ingredients for the lowest possible prices, and exceptional service. The bar is great as well. I adore the bartender and the environment is rustic, warm, and welcoming. Plus they have pool, bowling, lotto, and a jukebox.
