Many years ago they replaced a water pump for me. Not sure what they did but it blew the head gasket. They refused to fix it. As a result I donated the car, but have regretted it many times. I hope their ethics have improved over the years. read more

I broughted in mine 1992 Geo for stuff to be fixed. The trannie was slipping and growling and was making my life too bad. So, I new that Wallie was someone to do fixes (someone told me at church that his works are gooder). I driven from my ranch in Perris to Wallie place in Elsinore Lake for car stuff to be analysed, an one of Wallie workers meets me at the gate with tepid coffee and cigarette. So Wallie keeped my car for days three and call me and says "Needs a knew transformer and a Clout pusher. Price's many... like fifteen hundred." and I say do it anyhow. Works was done quicker and I paid big dollars for it. And I drived to Blacks Beach no problem. Then I took note that my work pants are gone! I new they was there win I dropped car off -- now no pants. I became unhappy and called Wallie from the hot dog stand at Blacks Beach and asked about where are my pants? Please beware when using this mechanic, we went in for an ignition fix because my son's van had an attempted break-in and they tried to shove something in the ignition to start it. By the time I picked up my van he had told me there was something wrong with the ABS brake line, he told me I needed a $1,200 repair on part of the coolant system, and tried to get me to buy a new battery. He performed tests that I had to fight to get removed from my bill, and is clearly one of those shady mechanics that's just looking to take advantage of people who don't know any better. I've had the van back for 4 days now and not one drop of coolant has leaked out of the van, he tried to tell us that there was a puddle forming every day when he would park it, but that was just a lie to try to get a $1,200 repair job. A bit let down. As this is a local spot and family owned I was looking forward to a positive experience. I went in for my BMW leaking coolant hose. I had a quote at 195 so went ahead with the repair. As the car has quite a few more problems I asked them to test drive it to diagnose what the loud noise was so I can set up further repairs. They called me hour later to let me know it's going to be closer to $250 to get it fixed because they have to remove the bottom cover. Ok was that not seen when u inspected and gave me the price? The 4 screws takes an extra hour of labor or so? Whatever they already had it and too late for me to change so I had to ok it. I went to pick it up when complete and asked about the diagnoses on the sounds. They state oh you need new brakes. Yes I know that one but that's not the sound it's making. Comes to find out they didn't take it to test the sound like they had initially stated they would do as long as I was getting work done already it would be covered. They said I could bring it back another day to be looked at. But I set aside today for this specifically... So cool $270 down at end of day and this single mom is still uneasy and have no idea what the other problems are or if my car can break down tomorrow. Maybe because I'm young they didn't think I would set up the repair anyways? I don't know. But so much for a good helping family business . I'll be getting my car checked elsewhere from now on. I have gone to gearharts for years. I like that they are family owned and operated. I felt that they have always taken care of my family's vehicles . The last time I have gone to them I decided to get a second opinion because I thought the price was a little bit too high. They wanted over $1200 dollars to do the job. The second opinion quoted $175, and said he can't understand why Gearharts would charge $1200 to do that job. I've been going to my new mechanic for two years now and am very satisfied and feel like I'm getting a better deal and quality work every time. I won't say the name of the mechanic I go to now because I'm not writing this to promote him I just want to let people know that I don't think that Gearharts is fairly priced. OK... this isn't supposed to happen. I called Gearhart's after contacting two other places who didn't have the equipment or knowledge to adjust my headlights on my 14 Prius. They quoted me $49 on the phone and said it would take a half an hour so I brought it down. 10 minutes after dropping it off they called me and said the car was ready, so I went back and they told me because it was so quick they were only charging me $30. Aren't auto mechanics supposed to try and up sell and Invoice you MORE than the original quoted price? These guys are awesome. The parking lot was full early in the morning and I guess I can see why their business is doing so well. Looks like a friendly and honest auto repair facility to me. Ridiculously slow service. They took over two weeks to diagnose my car. They have now had it about six weeks. Communication is nonexistent. They said my car would be ready three days ago. I called to schedule pick up and they informed me it still needs more work. Best of all, the mechanic has asked to speak with "my father or husband" when I haven't been as pliant as he's liked. This experience isn't going to end well. It's only w matter of how awful it has yet to get. read more

They saved my car! Long story short, my brakes went out because someone put the wrong fluid in my brake fluid reservoir. The exact replacement part was hard to find but we found it. The receptionist was friendly and awesome including the owner. Sorry it took so long for me to write the review but I had to because this place was great. Had not used Gearhart's for a while, but the occasion recently arose. We had an issue come up with a Mercury Grand Marquis. A local place (Family Tire) tried to fix and diagnose with no positive result. Then went to the Lake Elsinore Ford - after a day they did not know what was wrong. At that point took it to Gearhart's. The diagnoses was made within a few hours. Unfortunately it required a $2000 repair (weakened time belt tensioner), but the problem was solved and the car drives great! This place was absolutely wonderful. I had been hit by a tire that left some damage and shattered my windshield. They were nothing but prompt in fixing the issues. They were so kind when I came to pick up my car they tried their best to vacuum the glass out & took the time to bend but wiper blades back into place. Horrible experience. Took my car for a smog check, I already knew it wasn't going to pass. First diagnosis cost me almost $800. Ok, so I kid for that to get fixed. Later my check engine came up again. I took it in again and he said that in order to pass smog I would need to get that fixed. Ok so 2nd repair cost me another $400. I picked up my car and was told to drive it for 100 miles before I brought my car back to have it rechecked. That weekend I drove to Oceanside, and other places to drive the mikes needed. Took it back after adding the 100+ miles, mechanic comes back after 10 mins telling me my car still wasn't ready for smog. I asked why? He said one of the sensors were still not ready. He suggested driving it to Oceanside. I said I did! He said I needed a cold start. Really? In Elsinore? I've done several smogs and I've never had anyone specify my car needed to experience a cold start to be ready for a smog test. Took it back a week later and guess what? Check engine popped up again. Took it in again and mysteriously duck tape appeared on my air intake hose. Then they denied having done it themselves, even suggested my husband did that. My husband asked to speak to Wally the owner and he agreed to replace the part. Well when he called on Monday morning to take the car in to have the part replaced, Wally gave him attitude and asked if he was going to replace it himself or if they wanted him to do it. My husband just said he would do it. When we went to pick up the part, Wally was actually there and he greeted my husband again with attitude. He handed the part over and just said '"here." I was recommended to this shop by AAA ,very nice people unfortunately i got wrong diagnosis for my car. Problem was hesitation with my car. I had to leave my car for diagnosis since they had problem reading the error codes at first. Besides problem with Oxygen sensor the other code cylinder 3 misfire. They diagnosed bad throttle position sensor estimated repair around $750. I paid for diagnosis but took the car home. Problem simply was a bad coil. Lesson learned first, because referred by AAA means nothing and second follow the error code first I changed spark plugs and the coil, problem solved. read more

I had search from Escondido to Corona for a place to repair an old RV to pass the smog test. An RV body shop recommended Gearhart to check out my RV. I have been told the part was no longer made by the Ford company, I could turn it in for credit as non repairable by DMV. They were able make/repair the connections and anti-smog device is working again. I passed the smog test and was able to enjoy my RV again. read more

My '01 Honda overheated so my son stopped and had it towed over to Gearhart's for a diagnosis. They told my son new head gasket $1200 to start. Also said that when they started it up it overheated in 5 minutes. It's an old car, we almost got rid of it. Well we still are driving it 4 months later after just adding water. It has been a few years since I used their services and I would never go there again. I had bought a very nice used motorhome and needed some help in finding out why my main battery was not holding a charge. I am a decent basic backyard mechanic but finding the problem eluded me. I had always seen a lot of motorhomes in their garage and figured they were the best source to go to. At first they did a visual inspection and the owner of the shop advised me that I needed "several thousand dollars" of repair. He pointed out several things that needed attention like leaking steering wheel hoses, etc. Most was stuff that I could do myself rather than pay $100 an hour. I left the vehicle for them to find the problem with the battery drain and later they advised that they had spent some time on it and they had to replace the starter, alternator, main battery and auxiliary battery. They advised that my bill was about $1000. I was surprised as there was never a problem with the starter when I had a fully charged battery. I was further bothered when I went to pick it up and I asked what size (CCA) battery they but in and did they put in a heavy duty alternator. With it being a big Chevy with a 454 I expected they would put in a 600-700 CCA battery. It was about 550. Then they told me that they did not install a heavy duty alternator as they were no longer available for it. That raised my suspicions. Later I researched and of course they are still available. I was lied to. When I left, as i was driving it home it did not drive as smoothly as when i took it there. I live up in the hills above Lake Elsinore and the motorhome struggled to get up the hill. It would not shift properly... never getting out of 2nd gear. When I got home I crawled underneath it and found that a vacuum line had been disconnected from the transmission modulator. Accident? Coincidental? After re-connecting, it was fine. Oh... did I fail to mention that their work did not fix the problem? Battery dead in a week of sitting. I eventually found the cause of the problem... a $20 part that was wired incorrectly to the auxiliary batteries. If you have deep pockets and like to throw money away on parts you don't need... then this is the place for you. Most people are not knowledgeable about vehicles and we have to blindly trust our mechanic. I did have to replace the starter they put in in about a year although I had only used the motorhome a half dozen times. I also upgraded the battery on my own.
