Complete disappointment. The staff was less than helpful. Pointed me to a bay and expected me to know how to operate the lift. After very quickly explaining how to operate it, I asked to use the tools that supposedly is included in the price you pay to use a bay. I needed a simple power drill and a few bits to drill holes for mounting a tow hitch. They said they only had one power drill available, and unfortunately it was a rechargeable drill so not very powerful. Low and behold the only two batteries were nearly both drained. Then the drill bit kit they provided was missing 14 of the 20 bits in the set. The few that were in there were dull and useless. Complete waste of my money and time to have driven all the way to Oceanside. Had I known that they are less than helpful and that their tools are rubbish I would have gladly taken my own tools. read more

I went to brad because i had a check engine light come up. So he told me the problem and i fixed it but the light was still on. So i went back and he told me i had a head gasket leak ( which cost 1600$) so i was able to find the problem and fix it myself which was nothing that he told me. I would not recommend coming here. We recently got a BMW 330i Used, which unknowingly had a bunch of mechanical problems. We were looking for a mechanic and came across John, on a Craigslist ad, he guaranteed low prices, and after talking to him and get a few other rough estimates, his low price guarantee was confirmed! What's even better was that the diagnostic was free! Our own mechanic wanted to charge us $80 for a diagnostic. When the diagnostic was complete, he clearly explained to me what was wrong with the car and what needed to be done to get it up and running without being overkill (price wise). He ended up replacing our radiator, water pump, and thermostat for a pretty penny, but a GREAT PRICE, compared to several other shops that I had contacted. Through it all he would text me updates, and got everything taken care of promptly. His customer service was SUPERIOR! When he explained the problems he made it very clear, and never gave an impression like he was bothered by thoroughly explaining himself. Car runs smooth now, absolutely zero complaints, and I would recommend this shop and John to all looking for a trustworthy and reliable mechanic! read more

Waste of $65 to get my a/c and clutch issues diagnosed. The guy literally face-palmed when I said my clutch fluid was leaking. His boss had to save him from stuttering out an explanation as to why I was wrong by asking me if I was sure it was my clutch. Yes, I'm sure. I explained the issue I was having with my manual transmission (pro-tip: the RSX-S only comes in a manual) and he said he would take a look. An hour later he comes back with "you clutch is slipping, but I didn't see a leak" and "your compressor doesn't turn on" ...well, thanks. I knew that before. But at least I confirmed that nothing outside the bell housing was leaking, so that means it's leaking inside. Progress? Although he didn't even suggest trying to fix the leak before just telling me I need to replace the clutch as "I don't see a leak, so it's probably just the clutch". No. There is a leak. I'm sure of it. I'm filling my reservoir once a week. That's a leak. As for the a/c, I was hoping he could test the system a bit, figure out how much freon is in there, if it was enough to even trigger the compressor, etc. He did quote me about $120 to recharge the a/c after they installed a new compressor. Stopped by Purrfect Auto, they are going to test the a/c system for $70. The guy explained to me in detail what they will look for before confirming if it's the compressor, condenser or evaporator and what can be done. Gearheads is just another part-changer. read more

I took my 08 Cadillac CTS for a diagnostic for a cylinder misfire and got the car back running worse then when I brought it to gearheads. I paid sixty dollars for my car to get even worse brad the mechanic told me he couldn't get it to misfire after switching ignition coils. I had the car in my possession for fifteen minutes and already had a check engine light pop up. when I got to work I noticed the hose coming from the air intake leading to the valve cover was off, I put that back on and now the hose keeps popping up and misfires keeps happening.moral of the story, Gearheads is a good place to work on your own car, not a good place to take your car to have a mechanic check it out!! read more

I wish that we had found these guys much sooner. We spent close to $2,000 trying to get our Hyundai running again. We had it in and out of 4 different shops at least 8 times total and no one could locate the problem. They had it in Gearheads for a day, and were able to find that one of the previous shops that had worked on it had put an incorrectly sized oxygen sensor on it, frying some of the other parts on the car. Their diagnostic is way cheaper than anyone else around, their labor prices are extremely reasonable, but most importantly, they actually know what they are doing rather than just reading a code and throwing parts at it. They were very patient in explaining to both my spouse and I what the issues were and answering all of our questions despite how busy they were. 10/10 recommend and will not be using another shop while we are in SoCal! read more

After getting a $450 and $300 estimates from the VW dealer and a private shop I was looking for a better option for back breaks and rotors. Picked up the brake pads and rotors from Auto Zone $63. made an appt and $60 dollars later I had new breaks all total with my parts $123. Now that my friends is some savings. They were professional answered my girly/clueless questions without being condescending. After an incorrect battery install on my part, I took my Kia Sorento into Gearheads to replace the alternator. My husband diagnosed the alternator problem at home, I called Gearheads for a quote, and was given a very reasonable and competitive price. Because the car wouldn't start, I had AAA tow my car to Gearheads and that went smoothly. I didn't have to be with the car - the towtruck driver dropped it off in the afternoon and I received a call in the morning with an update, as promised. I was told that it was probably the main fuse that blew and I informed them of the battery I installed incorrectly (my bad!). They told me they had to order the fuse directly from Kia and since it was the weekend, it would be Monday until we had an update. I had no problem waiting because family was in town and we had an extra vehicle. Monday rolls around and there was a snafu with the part coming from Los Angeles - I understand, LA traffic sucks, and if the part was hard to locate or something, no problem. Tuesday morning I receive a call and they tell me my car is ready to pick up and it was indeed the fuse and not the alternator. Sweet! Several hundred dollars less that I figured. When I arrived at Gearheads to pickup the car, one of the mechanics spent 10 minutes chatting with me about the battery and that I should have Pep Boys replace it because it doesn't fit the vehicle (it is taller than the original battery). He was very helpful and I was happy to have had his insight. Check out process was easy peasy and I was out of there quickly. It didn't sound right so I spoke with Brad over the phone at U Fix it auto an he said it didn't sound like that was the issue. So glad to find these guys! My daughter and I put her wrecked Camaro back together at a DIY garage in Escondido, but it closed down. Ran across these guys by chance one day and was ecstatic that they were even closer to me than the last place! I've already been there twice. Brad is a great mechanic and very patient. He explained everything to me about why my Geo was making THAT NOISE and showed me why he thought the problem was where it was (he was correct!). Prices are super reasonable.
