Expensive, 3 cones for $19. The guy working behind the counter on Friday night didn't seem like he wanted to be there at all. I asked for a cup to hold the ice cream. Lovely location and very kind owner. It is located right above farmers, fishers & bakers and I've always wanted to try it but am always too full , but tonight we decided to make a night of it at the wharf without dinner. We walked the entire strip from the bridge into Virginia and wound up right here so stopped in to try the gelato. I had left my purse in the car and they didn't take ApplePay but the owner kindly let me try the coconut and hazelnut flavors. They were DELICIOUS! I have gotten gelato from here for several years. My favorite flavors are pistachio and dark chocolate though many of the other flavors I have tried are excellent. This is my go to gelato place in gtown. It is nice to get some gelato and eat it next to the Potomac river or the fountain near by. This place is great all times of the year but really nice when the weather is warm because there are some gold places to sit down and enjoy the view and chill while eating gelato. I'm not sure if this is the norm, but there were still plenty of flavors to choose from. We got to sample two flavors each, before making our decision. We decided on a regular cup with both pistachio and grapefruit sorbetto. The grapefruit was delightfully sweet and not super tangy (as normal grapefruits are), while the pistachio was subtle yet tasteful with actual pistachios included. We briefly considered the strawberry (slightly too sweet for my tastes) and striatacelli (possibly misspelled, a little less flavorful than I hoped for). The best thing about this place, much like many places near the waterfront, isn't the food - it's the location. I've tried many gelatos in Italy and right here in the DMV. You want fab? Go to Pitango in DC. If you want a good view of the water and great location for people watching, come here and hang out in their outdoor seating. The gelato looks ok, but I love pistachio gelato and the flavor just wasn't there - like, at all. I did find a tiny bit of ONE pistachio in it though, so I know they tried. Ha. The caramel was better, but it still wasn't what one would expect. Pass this up and just for for the Haagen Dazs nearby. After a hot day walking around Washington Habor aka the water front in Georgetown we stopped in for some gelato. There are plenty of flavors here that'll make anyone happy. There's two cases full of flavors but the cases contain the same flavors. It helps the line go down faster when a bunch of people aren't crowded around one cooler. That's about where the positive aspects of this place stop for me. It's clear that they don't wash the scoops off in between customers. I got my gelato and the only flavor I tasted was mint... I didn't order mint but the person in from of me did. We had the same issue with my family's orders tasting different. When it came time to sit most of the tables were dirty and employees didn't seem to care when it was brought to their attention. There are SO many dessert shops around here and we probably won't be back. read more

Great gelato. The prices are really good too. A little over $4 for a small, and $5.99 for a large. Plus the servings come with one or two scoops, and no extra charge for the second scoop. Their flavors are pretty limited and half of the offerings are actually sorbetto (which is great if you're trying to cut calories), but what they did have was pretty good. Gelateria Dolce Vita is in the Georgetown Harbour, and is a great place to pop in for a treat when you're walking around with friends or a date. The gelato here does rival Rome's, and it's probably the first I've had stateside that has been good enough for me to lay that claim. The number of flavors was a little disappointing the when I went (in Rome, there are hundreds!), but the creamy, fluffy gelato definitely hit the spot.
