Coconut & hazelnut gelato
Naomi C.

Lovely location and very kind owner. It is located right above farmers, fishers & bakers and I've always wanted to try it but am always too full , but tonight we decided to make a night of it at the wharf without dinner. We walked the entire strip from the bridge into Virginia and wound up right here so stopped in to try the gelato. I had left my purse in the car and they didn't take ApplePay but the owner kindly let me try the coconut and hazelnut flavors. They were DELICIOUS! I am a fan of less sweet gelatos in general and these were perfection!! Loved everything about the gelato, the customer service and the location is great!

I tried the strawberry sobretto and it was pretty tasty! The sweetness of it was pretty good!

I decided to get some gelato after lunch before my tour continued and this was a nice choice. They had a full array of unique choices. I ordered a large three scoop bowl of gelato. Tasted great and a reasonable cost. I combined Carmel, hazelnut, and butterscotch. Good service and they also have a good choice of drinks as well.

Great and Convenient location but there wasn't very many flavors. I struggle to find two flavors that I actually liked. The price was decent and the amount of ice cream. The taste was very creamy and fresh, but my only issue is the amount of choices.

There is a reason why the freeze section is a common picture posted for this place and it is because you are visually overwhelmed for choices. If you have a favorite flavor be adventurous and try something new. Even though the strawberry looked so appealing and was calling my name I decided to try a sweet and tangy and had a pineapple/lemon combo. It was well worth it and the service quick. Don't worry about being rushed because the choices will give you reason to pause for the cause. Summer is coming and this will be a frequent stop for a cool treat.

The best thing about this place, much like many places near the waterfront, isn't the food - it's the location. I've tried many gelatos in Italy and right here in the DMV. You want fab? Go to Pitango in DC. If you want a good view of the water and great location for people watching, come here and hang out in their outdoor seating. The gelato looks ok, but I love pistachio gelato and the flavor just wasn't there - like, at all. I did find a tiny bit of ONE pistachio in it though, so I know they tried. Ha. The caramel was better, but it still wasn't what one would expect. Pass this up and just for for the Haagen Dazs nearby. For once, I think ice cream beats gelato - at least in this particular area.

Great prices, a cute location with an astounding view of the harbor, and their Tiramisu and Bacio flavors were the best I've ever had.

I first fell in love with Mount Desert…read moreIsland Ice Cream while visiting Acadia National Park, so imagine my excitement when I learned this Maine classic had made its way all the way to Mount Pleasant DC! They have a great list of unique rotating flavors, and it's always fun to come back to try out their new seasonal releases. A few of my favorites over the years have been their hibiscus sorbet -- a delightful dairy-free addition to their Hispanic Heritage Month flavors that is the perfect balance of tangy and sweet -- the cinnamon cardamom -- a super spiced ice cream that, despite being freezing cold, feels like you're about to drink a warm beverage -- and blueberry sour cream crumble. When I'm feeling less adventurous, they also have a really solid strawberry ice cream that uses real berries (none of that artificial nonsense you see in grocery stores) with a delightful fruity, slightly tangy flavor. There's usually a pretty long line, but it moves quite quickly since they don't allow samples. It's also a small space that gets crowded pretty easily, so I'd recommend taking your ice cream to go and enjoying it as you walk around Mt Pleasant or on the benches just below the entrance to Mount Desert.

Blueberry was alright but I couldn't taste the sour cream at all. Watermelon was artificial and bad too. They also don't let people sample, which is weird for an ice cream place. Overall, I would not recommend this place because paying $8+ to take a random chance on ice cream flavors is not worth it at all. At least let us sample first...

I've tried other DDL lattes from other coffee shops around the city and this one is by far the best. It's good hot and iced. The seasonal strawberry matcha is also very good. This place is great for the seasonal drinks and gelato flavors using local ingredients. My absolute favorite seasonal flavor is the Blackberries and Cream gelato. I ate it so much last summer that I could see the color of the gelato get darker as the season progressed and as the berries reached their peak. I got a few hand packed pints to keep in the freezer but they didn't last long. The mascarpone & berries is my favorite classic flavor. I've been to every Dolcezza location in DC and my favorite is the DuPont location. The baristas are chill and somehow their drinks taste better than the other locations. Not sure how that's possible but I notice a difference. I think it has something to do with how the drink order is entered at the register. At another location, I noticed my DDL latte was entered as a latte with DDL syrup and it was noticeably off. Not sweet at all. When I asked the barista he said there was no DDL button but at DuPont the drink is perfect every time. I'm not usually focused on nitpicking but if I'm paying $10 for a coffee, I expect the taste to be consistent regardless of location. Back to DuPont. This location has decent seating but definitely isn't appropriate for longer study sessions during busy times. There's a large communal table and bar style seating along the front window that is great for people watching (or construction watching). It's conveniently located, about a 10 minute walk away from the DuPont metro. Is Dolcezza expensive? Yes. Will I continue to use my discretionary income on $10 coffee and gelato. Yes, because it makes me happy and it's an act of self care.

All good things! 1. Appearance of the Venue This spot has a really cool, old-school ice cream parlor vibe. It feels traditional, welcoming and exactly what you want a neighborhood ice cream shop. 2. Service The service here was great and very friendly. We were traveling in a large group, and the staff was able to accommodate all of us in a very timely manner. Which we really appreciated since we were on our way to a destination and had other family members meeting us at the metro station. Thanks to their quick service, we didn't keep anyone waiting. 3. The Ice Cream As a Wisconsinite, I am a bit of an ice cream and custard snob being from the dairy state! While it doesn't quite match up to Wisconsin's Custard (IYKYK), I will say it was good ice cream and definitely tasted better than some I've had in other states. This made the spontaneous stop worth it. They offer several fantastic flavors of hand dipped ice cream. I ordered the salted caramel in a cake cone. The ice cream was really good. It was rich and flavorful. Not too salty either. It is wonderful to find a great local spot while traveling as I always love supporting small businesses. Here you go asking me again, will I return? During my visit, I sampled Ego Thelo Strawberry (a refreshing Mediterranean strawberry sorbet), Aegean Sun (Greek yogurt ice cream with sun-ripened apricot jam), and Mornings with Thea (creamy Greek yogurt ice cream swirled with traditional orange preserves). Each flavor was incredibly smooth and flavorful, but Mornings with Thea completely won me over. The tangy Greek yogurt paired perfectly with the sweet, citrusy orange preserves, creating a unique and refreshing flavor that kept me coming back for more. I loved it so much that I ordered a small two-scoop cup and even took home a pint to enjoy later. The only downside wasn't the shop itself--it was the unpleasant odor outside while we were enjoying our ice cream on the benches. It took away from what would have otherwise been a perfect outdoor experience, but thankfully the quality of the ice cream more than made up for it.
