We heard this was the hot new ice cream spot in Georgetown to check it out. The base of their ice cream is Greek yogurt, which is kind of cool (and tasty). The flavors are pretty standard (vanilla, chocolate, caramel, pistachio). The price is steep, with the smallest ice cream costing $8, but glad we stopped by and checked it out!

The shop was very crowded and had a long line but good and fast service. I got the Greek blue summer ice cream. Blueberry and lemon is best combo, lemon was not too tart and complimented the blueberries so well, most perfect dessert for this 100 degree day!

Nice concept to offer Greek ice cream or Greek yogurt options, but I think this place is quite expensive for the quantity given and it's overhyped on social media. I don't like how certain flavors (the unique, creative ones) cost more. I feel like all prices should be the same price. Just a small cup with one normal priced flavor and then an extra priced flavor was $10. I believe you can find better ice cream options in the area. The store is also very small and not much seating. Service was quick, but too many cons stood out for me. The Kataifi flavor costed extra, I expected more flavor, and it did not have enough of the vermicelli crunchy pieces. I also got a Greek yogurt flavor which had actual orange peels in it, which was very tasty but overall my experience there was not good enough to justify returning again

New Addition to my Ice Cream Mount Rushmore When a friend heard I was heading into surgery, they sent a Yala ice cream care package via Uber Eats. I honestly didn't realize Uber Eats could deliver high-end ice cream--that is dangerous knowledge for an aficionado with limited self-control. I usually have a strict "Fridays only" rule to self-impose some restraint, but those rules go out the window during recovery. (A quick note: the surgery was nothing serious--just finally fixing a skiing failure from Breckenridge back in February.) To give some context on my palate: 6 out of 10 times, I'm ordering vanilla. I resent when people call it "plain vanilla"--vanilla done right is a complex, detailed flavor all on its own. 2 out of 10 times, I'm ordering something with peanut butter (ever since E.T. 'phoned home', I've had a Reese's problem). For the final 2 out of 10, I'll be adventurous with fruit or something unique. I didn't have much prior knowledge of Greek ice cream traditions, so I did some digging. Traditional Greek ice cream (Kaimaki) is often chewy and elastic, but Yala takes a modern approach for DC. They've hit a "middle ground" texture--creamy like American ice cream but light like gelato. They use A2 dairy from South Mountain Creamery, which makes it incredibly smooth and much easier to digest. After a few days of sampling, Yala is firmly within my ice cream pantheon and established on my "Mount Rushmore" alongside Adrian's Custard in Wisconsin and Oberweis in Chicago. I did my tastings "blind"--meaning I looked at it, but I did not read the foundational ingredients before eating and reviewing. Here are the reviews for the four flavors: Mornings with Thea (Orange Label) My daughter led the charge here, describing it as a "tropical orange cream" that felt like a "wave of summer" with a sophisticated, creamy "winter undertone." My own take was that it tasted like a bougie, orange creamcicle, but with incredible orange chunks. I thought it was candied orange zest, which was new to me and amazing, I also thought I caught hints of peach layered in. I later learned these are traditional Greek orange preserves (spoon sweets) swirled into a yogurt and vanilla base. Yia Mas (Pink Label) I'll be honest: I don't even like cherries, and I first thought these were raspberries. But this was fantastic. It has tart wild cherries swirled into a Greek yogurt and vanilla base. The fruit is succulent and pops against the creamy background. American Dream (Brown Label) A blend of "Papou's Promise" vanilla and "Choco-Yala" chocolate. The chocolate pieces are crisp and have a nice crunch, providing a perfect structural contrast to the smooth vanilla. Mint Chip Mou (Green Label) I've always thought of mint chip as a holiday flavor, but this version felt perfect for March. The color is a soft, spring-like green--not an artificial iridescent glow. When first scooped, the aroma pops into the air, similar to the zest of a a ripe, juicy tangerine when you peel it (the effect, not the the flavor or smell). The mint is light and dreamy rather than a full frontal assault, and the small chocolate pieces are a compliment, not a competitor, providing a nice lingering aftertaste. I was floored to find out that "spring" color comes naturally from spinach! The common thread across all these flavors is that they are well-blended, yet the components stand out independently in the profile. It is a masterpiece of textures and tones; the chocolate or the fruit isn't "mushed" into the ice cream but exists as a separate, wonderful experience floating in an ice cream or yogurt environment. I resisted the Yelp urge to rank these against each other, there were no disappointments. Obviously, Papou's Promise vanilla tops my hit list for next to try, I want to compare Greek Blue Summer against my favorite blueberry pie ice cream from Oberweis, and I'd would love to sample anything peanut butter related if they put something out as a seasonal special! A huge thanks again to my kind friend for the recovery fuel. I'm already planning to organize future ice cream socials here for friends and colleagues once I'm back on my feet. Yala is the real deal. #YalaGreekIceCream #GeorgetownDC #IceCreamConnoisseur #GreekDessert #A2Dairy #MountRushmoreOfIceCream #GeorgetownEats #VanillaDoneRight

Cute spot serving up Greek ice cream and yogurt in Georgetown. The storefront is tucked away with some window seating and a couple benches outside. Great array of flavors to choose from and you can sample before you commit. The smallest serving will run you $8.75 (with tax before tip) and you can choose two flavors. I went with the two that both had cherries which were delicious. Bit steep for a frequent ice cream fix, even for Georgetown, but a nice treat if you find yourself in the area on a warm day.

So happy my boyfriend and I stumbled on this spot not long ago! We were looking for gluten free options for dessert near by and were so happy to hear that the staff has been working on adding more options to their menu! They helped guide my boyfriend on what would be celiac safe and I was able to enjoy all of their other options myself!

    Cute decorations!

Good ice cream, just couldn't taste the difference from regular ice cream! Service was friendly. Price was a bit high but to be expected in Georgetown

Yala can have different meaning based off the language. In Greek, Yala means milk; in Arabic, it means let's go; and in Turkish it means lick. Cute small spot in Georgetown for ice cream. It's nestled away, and up a steep set of stairs. There is a bench for eating inside for maybe two to three people, but the also have a couple of seats and benches outside on the street in front of the sidewalk. In terms of ice cream, It's less on the creamy and more on the ice-y side but they let you try the different flavors. They also had some specialty ones that cost a little extra like Yasou Dubai chocolate, pistachio odyssey, and Kaitaifi It's pretty good overall and a good refreshing after lunch/dinner snack, or just a nice break from DC's humid summers/falls/random heat waves.

Yala Greek Ice Cream is such a gem! The Mornings with Thea flavor instantly reminded me of a creamy orange creamsicle -- light, bright, and so refreshing. I'm a caramel lover, so the Yia Yia Karamela was an instant favorite. It's rich without being heavy, with that perfect smooth Greek-style texture. The staff was warm and welcoming, offering samples and helping us choose between all the tempting flavors. And the branding? I love it -- the colors, the vibe, the whole aesthetic makes the shop feel cozy, quaint, and inviting. A must-try spot if you're in the area and want a treat that feels both nostalgic and elevated. I'll definitely be back!

I love Greek yogurt, so when I heard there was a Greek ice cream shop in Georgetown, I knew I had to check it out. This place felt like a little taste of the Mediterranean tucked into the neighborhood (love the blue and white decor with pumpkins) and it did not disappoint. The offer two flavors made with Greek yogurt, and of course, I had to try both. I got Yia Mas, a tangy Greek yogurt ice ream topped with tart wild cherries, and Mornings with Thea, a creamy Greek yogurt base swirled with traditional organge preserves. Both were sooooooo good! The texture is rich and velvety, the flavors are bold without being overly sweet, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. They emphasize using high-quality ingredients like farm-fresh milk, premium imports from Greece and the Mediterranean, and no artificial sweeteners, hormones, or antibiotics. It's the kind of ice cream where every bite feels intentional. I appreciate how they incorporate Greek language and culture into the experience. It's such a charming touch and makes the visit feel more meaningful than just grabbing dessert. You can tell they genuinely want customers to learn a bit about the traditions behind their ice cream. I can't wait to try other flavors next time! :)

Usually not a huge Greek yogurt fan, but I really enjoyed the yogurt ice cream here at Yala! I tried the Mornings with Thea flavor as well as the Kataifi. I think the Kataifi was a little more on the icy side for my preference (I like my ice cream super rich and creamy) but I did like the flavor. Definitely preferred Mornings with Thea of the two with its subtle orange flavor. It does have a bit of a line on the weekends but the servers were all super friendly!

I have never tried Greek ice cream, so had no idea what to expect. Upon entering, the man behind the counter was very friendly and willing to let me sample any flavors I was interested in. It was a warm day, so opted for the refreshing mint chip (I can't remember the actual name of the flavor), and it was great! The ice cream is very light and airy. It's not too sweet, and feels like having light treat! It's not too sweet or heavy, which I appreciate because I still felt good afterwards. I highly recommend giving Yala a try, especially if you are looking for a light and refreshing dessert!

They have a great list of unique rotating flavors, and it's always fun to come back to try out their new seasonal releases. A few of my favorites over the years have been their hibiscus sorbet -- a delightful dairy-free addition to their Hispanic Heritage Month flavors that is the perfect balance of tangy and sweet -- the cinnamon cardamom -- a super spiced ice cream that, despite being freezing cold, feels like you're about to drink a warm beverage -- and blueberry sour cream crumble. When I'm feeling less adventurous, they also have a really solid strawberry ice cream that uses real berries (none of that artificial nonsense you see in grocery stores) with a delightful fruity, slightly tangy flavor. There's usually a pretty long line, but it moves quite quickly since they don't allow samples. It's also a small space that gets crowded pretty easily, so I'd recommend taking your ice cream to go and enjoying it as you walk around Mt Pleasant or on the benches just below the entrance to Mount Desert.

He made me an iced Oat Milk Dolce Delizia with a hint of vanilla, and it was right up my alley. After the very first sip, it was an instant connection... with the drink, of course. The vibes were so good that my friend and I ended up sitting there talking for a couple of hours. I've tried other DDL lattes from other coffee shops around the city and this one is by far the best. It's good hot and iced. The seasonal strawberry matcha is also very good. This place is great for the seasonal drinks and gelato flavors using local ingredients. My absolute favorite seasonal flavor is the Blackberries and Cream gelato. I ate it so much last summer that I could see the color of the gelato get darker as the season progressed and as the berries reached their peak. I got a few hand packed pints to keep in the freezer but they didn't last long. The mascarpone & berries is my favorite classic flavor. I've been to every Dolcezza location in DC and my favorite is the DuPont location. The baristas are chill and somehow their drinks taste better than the other locations. Not sure how that's possible but I notice a difference. I think it has something to do with how the drink order is entered at the register. At another location, I noticed my DDL latte was entered as a latte with DDL syrup and it was noticeably off. Not sweet at all. When I asked the barista he said there was no DDL button but at DuPont the drink is perfect every time. I'm not usually focused on nitpicking but if I'm paying $10 for a coffee, I expect the taste to be consistent regardless of location. Back to DuPont. This location has decent seating but definitely isn't appropriate for longer study sessions during busy times. There's a large communal table and bar style seating along the front window that is great for people watching (or construction watching). It's conveniently located, about a 10 minute walk away from the DuPont metro. Is Dolcezza expensive? Yes. Will I continue to use my discretionary income on $10 coffee and gelato. Yes, because it makes me happy and it's an act of self care.
