Jeni's has been around for ages and we drive by / walk by it a lot every single time we're in DC to visit the in-laws. But usually, we're too full from whatever meal we've just finished. But this time, we purposely skipped dessert at the restaurant and had ice cream instead. They have a ton of really cool flavors and you can try them before you pick. I tried the mint chip and the darkest chocolate. The darkest chocolate was so good that I ended up with two scoops of it - that's how much I wanted. It's hard to find a solid, not too sweet chocolate, so this was perfect. I had it in a waffle cone, which was so fresh and so crispy. read more

This was the second Jeni's I visited while staying in the area. One thing I immediately noticed was that they did not carry the exact same flavors as the parlor in Bethesda. I'm trying to decide if I consider that intentional or evil, but I appreciated the opportunity to sample flavors I couldn't get at the other parlor. As always, the quality of both the ice cream and service were excellent. There wasn't as much space outside for sitting and enjoying, but the interior was comfortable and welcoming. Since there are no Jeni's near where I live (yet), I have more reasons to visit local stores that carry their pints. read more

I stop by here every few months when they have an interesting flavor and it's always a good experience! I'm usually there on a weekday afternoon, so I don't know how it would be with a crowd, but as it is I've always had good, friendly service! I really enjoy being able to buy the specialty pints you can't get in stores, and there's something new every time. As far as ice cream chains in DC, this is the most reliable for me, although I've had one or two experiences with freezer burn. I have a slight preference for the Eastern Market location for that reason, but in general it's all been great, and I love that there's so much space to spread out and sit upstairs. read more

Top notch ice cream shop. We popped in after a concert and were pleasantly surprised that they were still open! They do half scoops so you can try more flavors so I ordered the coffee and the salted peanut butter on a cone. I regret not doing ONLY the peanut butter as it was the best PB ice cream I have ever tasted. The cones were thin and crisp and held up well to the ice cream. The service was fast despite the late night crowd. Will definitely go back for more the next time we are in the area. read more

It's no secret that Jeni's has some pretty fantastic ice cream, from the texture to incredibly balanced flavors, they are a top tier option that I am always happy to have. This location is also fairly large with an upper floor for seating that is spacious, clean, and well decorated in the same fun way as the rest of the store with plenty of color and tile. The last time I went though I had a sort of strange experience with the service. While they were kind I guess, it started with them asking if it was my first time. This part is normal, I responded stating no, ive been before. They then asked if I wanted "standard or signature", when I asked what the difference was she semi-condescendingly stated "oh, so it is your first time" No, it was not, and I have a few issues with this interaction. Firstly, it is very easy to jsut sometimes forget things, nothing new. In addition, how hard is it just to state 2 scoops vs 3 scoops. Thats all that needed to be stated. When you decide to make up your own arbitrary sizing names instead of using standard descriptors, you have to deal with people not knowing. It's similar to one particular coffee spot, if I go in there and ask for a medium and the say "im sorry, do you mean a grande" im going to be quite frustrated, and as such I was with this interaction as well. read more

Lawd have mercy! Jesus take the wheel! Okay, so I finally was able to try this gem of a place with my homie! I ordered a standard cup with 2 scoops. Scoop #1 was Wild-berry Lavender & Scoop # 2 was Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks. The wild-berry lavender reminded me of a cool summer breeze, with notes of comfort and grounding laced in between each bite. I felt my tastebuds come alive with each and every bite. The Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks was rich and decadent. Imagine warmth and bliss, coupled with a good movie. Yup, this is this ice cream flavor! I felt a strong sense of peace after finishing my ice cream. Jeni's quality is truly top notch! The customer service is also on point! Love Jeni's usually but when my date and I stopped by on a Friday night, all the employees were huddled in a corner chatting for a while even as a line formed. Then when we were served, they weren't very friendly and I could see a scoop of a different flavor was left/dropped into a different flavor (see photo). I don't recommend coming to this location, at least on a Friday night - it can also be hard to find seating, even upstairs, and because it's so busy the tables are left dirty. read more

This one is bright and has 2 floors of seating arranged to allow conversation (esp on the 2nd floor). The service is friendly. They don't skimp on "tastes". This shop was my first experience with Jeni's Ice Cream and by far the gold standard for a wonderful scoop experience. There's a ton of unique flavors, every one of them as intense and creamy as the last. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, eager to give tastes so you can find your new favorite. My go to is a regular size Sea Salt Caramel and Salted Peanut Butter on a waffle cone, and holy cow it's good. I've been to Jeni's a few times and I also get their pints at the grocery store. Jeni's makes excellent, super premium ice cream. I'm a big Ben & Jerry's fan, but I have to admit that Jeni's tastes richer, creamier, and more premium. And it is definitely better than another well known DC ice cream shop. On my recent visit, I got three flavors: Double Dough, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and Gooey Butter Cake. Double Dough has chocolate chip cookie dough swirled into a buttery brown sugar custard. Normally, I'm not a big fan of cookie dough ice cream because I find the vanilla base boring and the chunks too infrequent. I was a big fan of this flavor because of the brown sugar custard base and soft chunks. Almond Brittle had brown butter almond candy crushed into buttercream ice cream. It was good and tasted true to its description. Gooey Butter Cake is a classic Jeni's flavor and has cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce. It's an amazing flavor. Service was good but it was little hard to understand my server. I visited in the evening and it seems they ran out of some flavors, so there was less variety than I expected. read more

Jeni's has become less than Splendid over the years. I first went to Jeni's in Chicago about 6 or so years ago. I remember being so impressed by the innovative flavors and delicious cones, but now paying $8 for overly sweet ice cream just isn't my jam. The location was great, they had plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs. I appreciated the free water (which was needed due to cleanse the palate from the sugar). As for their flavors they still have the classics, darkest chocolate and brambleberry crisp were always my favorites. However, the brambleberry wasn't as tart as I remember and they skimped on the crisp. I tried some of their innovative flavors like sweet potato marshmallow praline (classic thanksgiving flavor) and bay leaf cheesecake (inventive but gross tbh); and just one taste was enough I can't image eating a whole scoop. My sister got the gooey butter cake, which was a little too gooey. The employee couldn't really scoop it; I'm not sure if it had gotten too warm but it was basically soup. I'm surprised he even served it to us... Overall, I hate to say it but Jeni's has gotten too commercial for my liking. Probs will avoid this place in favor of a local spot where possible! read more

My personal favorite Jeni's flavor is the Darkest Chocolate, a smooth dark chocolate blend packed with fair trade cocoa. If you are a chocolate lover, Darkest will be the flavor for you! My friend and I split a waffle cone trio and got it with Darkest Chocolate, Fluffernutter Pie (Peanut Butter, Vanilla Marshmallow, and Oat Pie Crust Pieces), and Brambleberry Crisp (Oat Streusel and Brambleberry Crisp). I applauded my friend for choosing such a great trio of flavors! This was a lovely blend of chocolate, fruity jams, and solid crust/crisp pieces woven perfectly in a high-quality vanilla ice cream. One word: DIVINE Jeni's is probably one of the best once cream places I've ever been to! The ice cream itself is DELICIOUS. Silky smooth, creamy, flavorful with a fragrant aroma, and it doesn't have any ice particles or taste overly artificial. The flavors here are pretty unique. I tried 5 flavors (all delicious) and had such a hard time choosing. Ultimately went with the pineapple upside down cake (so good and goey with cake pieces and cherries ) and the goey butter cake batter (also amazing, packed with flavor, and has butter cake pieces in it ). Truly one of the best ice creams I've ever had. My only complaint is that the ice cream tasted slightly salty which I wasn't a huge fan of. I've tried Jeni's pints from grocery stores several times now and I looovee their ice cream so when I came to visit D.C., I knew that I had to visit their storefront! It's in a fairly busy area so street parking wasn't very convenient here. They have 2 levels, downstairs where you order with a few counter seatings by the window and upstairs which has several tables. The staff was very nice! There were about 3 staff members and 1 cashier when we went so each of them were helping customers which sped up the line. When I came, it was still fairly empty but then it got super packed with a line out the door by the time I left. I'm pretty indecisive so I asked to sample several flavors and the staff was very friendly so he wasn't bothered by it. Their flavors are unique and there's a good assortment of them! I ended up getting 3 scoops - peaches and cream, salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks, and Texas sheet cake. They were all delicious, super creamy and had plenty of toppings in each of them. If I had a Jeni's storefront near me, I'd probably be going every day. read more

Jeni's never misses. The END! No seriously, this is my favorite ice cream place in all of DC/VA. I almost can't help myself but to stop by if I'm in the area. I came here on a date with a friend who had never had Jeni's before and absolutely was sleeping on their waffle cones! This location is frequently packed because it's right next to the popular U Street. We had to wait in a long, but fast moving line. I already knew what I wanted and ordered. I ordered a regular bowl with waffle cone of Jeni's Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream. This flavor is impeccable, can't be beat! My friend got a kids scoop. In reality, I needed a kids scoop. It was soo much ice cream and it is VERY sweet. I finished mine out of pure gluttony. Afterwards I sat in my shame LOL. I will absolutely go back and i will probably remember I only need a kids scoop. Lastly, seating is always a little scarce at Jeni's but people typically depart from their seats when finished with their ice cream so others can sit. read more
