Perfect little gelato shop on the hill and a great sweet treat post dinner! I love this neighborhood, so we frequent dinner in the area and love stopping by here for dessert afterwards. I love my neighbor but damn lol I'm sure the line is manageable during the day, but just be aware that dinner is so insane. As a result we have hit quite a few places in the St. Louis metro area, and the bar is set quite high. The Hill is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the St. Louis metro. I try to get down as often as I can. This summer I held a work even in the always fun beer garden at Milo's. It was a hot day, and the whole family wanted to get something to cool off afterwards. We had heard good things about Gelato Di Riso, and it is right by Milos. It is a small shop, but it has a GREAT patio and it is right by the piazza. I got the best gelato flavor there is (stracciatella) while my family got a mixture of other flavors. It was AMAZING, just the right thing on a hot summer day. Went out for some late night ice cream with some friends and decided to check out this gelato shop. This was the first time that I've tried Gelato and it was thick and creamy. The gelato shop offered many different flavors to choose from. I decided to taste the pistachio gelato and it tasted good, but for some reason it was brown instead of green. After tasting the pistachio gelato it didn't taste like pistachio, but more like a subtle chocolate flavor. I'd try other flavors next time, but I don't think I'd try their version of pistachio next time. read more

I attended this place as part of a food tour I was on. They had a number of unique and traditional gelato flavors. The staff was friendly and patient. I went with a small cup of toasted almond. This was very fulfilling and tasty. It tasted exactly like the good humor bar, which was what I wanted. The toasted almond flavor was not too overpowering, which was something I did not realize until I was finished. I also tried the root beer float flavor. That did not disappoint either. Not quite ice cream, not quite sherbet, but absolutely delicious! This location is on the hill and nestled in between lots of Italian restaurants that are absolutely equally delicious. We were able to sit outside on a gorgeous day and bring our puppy on the patio. The kids were able to select from a variety of colorful toppings and flavors. A medium size gets you up to three flavors - the hardest part is choosing which ones! The space is clean and inviting, and the staff was very kind to us. The 2 young men behind the counter were so friendly and helpful, letting us try samples and giving advice and not once acting like they were put out by our visit. A real asset to a business! 10+ years later and still 5 stars. Came in for gelato after dinner @ Milo's around the corner. Though there was a bit of a line the staff could not have been friendlier and did a phenomenal job of keeping the line moving. The picco (2 flavors) was more than enough and such a refreshing deal after many expensive cones of the same size at some of the other "craft" ice cream spots around town. I think this was my second time at Gelato di Riso, and it was really busy on a Saturday evening. There was only one employee scooping the ice cream, and the line was quite long. The employee was a little frazzled, I couldn't sample as many flavors. I ordered the mascarpone and the dulce di lecche, they were delicious. I don't even consider having dessert after lunch or dinner because I know I have to stop here for some mascarpone gelato! I'm not an ice cream person and I'm definitely not a frozen custard person, and put gelato in front of me and I'm in heaven. Gelato contains more milk than ice-cream and it's churned slower, which results in a much denser and rich texture. Each of their flavors are intense & made with fresh ingredients. It's the best in my opinion. There are a couple of small tables outside on the sidewalk in front but go around back and you'll be treated to tables with a view overlooking Piazza Imo. I ordered a small which comes with 1-2 scoops and I couldn't finish it all, but I'm not much of a cold dessert person. There was no wait around 6p on a Thursday. They also have an nice courtyard connected to a little cobblestone park with chess boards built into the tables. They also have a sink in the dining room for any sticky messes.
