The employee that almost attached me.
    Shawn F.

I walked in asked for 2 packs of cigarettes as usual. The cashier charged me $2 extra when I asked why? he said that's the price but the price displayed was cheaper. After repeated questions why I'm over charged he began to call me names with racial slurs he then took his apron off told me to come outside to fight him. We went outside he clinched his fists and ready to box me all while customers gathered watched him attempting to cause me bodily injury.

The shop is located in a plaza with decent parking spots. I can imagine on a busy day it can be hard to park here! Which was already a good start to our experience since Laidrey has terrible parking (no offense). I love Laidrey but wanted to give a chance to a place I haven't tried before. Upon entrance, we were greeted with a warm and pleasant "good morning!" The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The cashier/barista was the sweetest girl who gave me helpful tips on what to get. There was an older gentlemen who walked us through on the different pastries. He told us what to get warmed up and what would taste good with the coffee. I'm so glad the staff had actual good tips because man was everything DELICIOUS. The potato croquette I had was mind blowing! It was savory with hints of cumin and a little bit of spice which you can't really get something like this at regular coffee shops. My FAVORITE! The sweetened puff pastry with cheese felt decadent and good with the coffee but boy did it fill me up immediately! The savory feta pastry was something my husband ordered which he seemed to really like but wasn't a personal favorite of mine. The Spiced Mexican Mocha was smooth and creamy. My husband ordered this and it was perfectly up to his speed! I ordered "The Sam" which is a salted vanilla oat latte. I was so excited because it already had oat milk in it! This latte was absolutely incredible and she even added the aesthetic foam art heart to it. Overall, the environment was wholesome and it's a very spacious shop. Not too loud or crowded for me. I would definitely come back and maybe even do some office work here while enjoying my potato croquette!!

The new owner, Leon, seems to be a nice gentleman who's trying to get a grasp on both his clientele and the business and make it a smooth transition. He's increased the selection of pastries and food that's available. Service does seem to be a little slower so far. But since the same morning shift barista was working there today, my latte was as good as always.

In a location with an ever-shifting number of street people who may occasionally cause grief, all condiments are kept behind the counter, which needles the personal customization experience a touch (though it's understandable). Coffee here (which I always get iced) is robustly flavored without being bitter. Though I'm not the kind of aficionado others may claim to be, even I can appreciate this Java is far better than what's being served at Starbucks. However, food items are lagging far behind. The Cheddar & Jalapeño Croissant, previously pretty well-packed with cheese and peppers and sporting a goodly hit of heat, has been revamped and replaced by a dry, very mass-produced crescent with hardly any cheese or peppers, and no spice; really, barely any flavor at all, spicy or not. Other breakfast items on display failed to ignite much of a spark in me, and their version of a McMuffin looked especially unappealing in its display case packaging. So, the food is a bit of a bust, but the coffee is top notch, and the cafe areas are comfortable and well lit. Add in the free WiFi, and this is a good place to relax, chat with friends, watch a game or do some work. Maybe just sneak in a cruller from Winchell's across the street to go with your cup of Joe.

I didn't want to lose my park at the school so I decided to walk to Alfred to grab something to eat and drink for my youngest son. It's located on Ventura Blvd so there is limited parking out front. However, there is parking on the side street Paso Robles Ave which is convenient. Walking into the coffee shop, it was clean and pretty modern, walking through the patio area first to get to the inside. The setup is nice but it's small and can get crowded fast! The people at the front register were great. They were super helpful and even joked around with my son as he was ordering. We decided to go with the bacon breakfast burrito, the turkey sandwich, the pog juice and a strawberry lemonade. The food was good and they called our name in a reasonable time so the wait wasn't bad. The only thing I feel could be better, and they may be working on this, is if they could include more food items. If they did this, it would give Starbucks a run for their money. My kids like going to Starbucks for all of their food items and we kill two birds with one stone. That may not be their goal but if I could easily grab what I need and grab them a breakfast from here in the mornings, that would eliminate several morning stops for me lol. Overall, I like Alfred! There's a lot of potential here and I'm here for it! OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

I ordered the Matchaga - described as a matcha + functional mushroom drink blended with chaga, reishi, and lion's mane mushrooms, vanilla, monk fruit, and a dash of strawberry. I got mine with oat milk, which they don't charge extra for. I liked this location with its natural lighting and indoor/outdoor seating arrangement. You can park in the back as well with a door that leads to the parking lot. The matchaga (12 oz $7.50) had just the right amount of sweetness with NO SUGAR. Since I'm trying to cut out sugar these days, this was a welcome change. The matcha wasn't too bitter and there was just the hint of mushroom, in fact I could barely taste it. When it is busy, you may have to wait awhile, although my daughter got her iced strawberry matcha latte right away. Would totally return!
