Overall I had a perfect experience with Gem. My 25 year old concrete floor had a lot of scratches, stains, and a coating that was failing. I got concrete polishing quotes from 3 companies and gem stood out as: 1) By far the cheapest (less than half the price of the other quotes). 2) The best/fastest communication. They got back to me quickly and answered all my questions (some of the other companies forgot to reply to my emails at all until checking in weeks later). I was skeptical about the price, but my neighbors had used Gem so I was able to see the finished work, and it stood up well even years later. The pricing is simple - fixed costs per square foot. The other companies gave me a base price but said it might be higher based on complexity. They came to my home twice - once for a site visit and once to do the actual work. They were on time within the minute. They handled every detail of my floor including tight spaces and areas under the bottom stair with little vertical clearance. And when the work was done there was no dust. They must have wiped every surface, window, and countertop. They even stopped by upon our request before we signed the contract. I got the first floor of my townhome refinished. It already had some concrete, and I wasn't sure if the black stain would come out. I will get to the problem areas: 1. They used an outlet from my backyard and started a small fire. We were lucky to be there to see the smoke and stopped the fire from spreading. They removed the cover/outlet and kept working as if nothing had happened. We need to fix the outlet on our own. 2. The color came out not what I expected. I picked a photo from their website on what I want. They tested on a small patch. It was really hard to determine. So, color is really a roll of dice due to many variables. 3. The most glossy is not that glossy. If you like glossy, pay the extra for the highest gloss possible because even at that level it was a bit rougher than I expected. Overall, they finished in one day. It is definitely better than bare concrete floor. It could've been better. read more

These guys are absolutely fantastic! We have a concrete area on the front of our house in San Francisco that used to have all this ugly wooden structures built on it with some tile work. We had ripped out the wooden stuff, but the tile remained and the concrete looked old with small holes where there were bolts that held everything down. I looked and looked and struggled to find a company that would even handle this job. For us, straightforward, honest and hard-working contractors who arrive on time and get the job done in the time they originally estimated are hard to come by. You might say you found a true gem of a contractor when you hire these guys, pun intended. We originally wanted our garage finished with epoxy coating and they explained to us why the epoxy won't be as durable and how after a while the moisture in the concrete will cause the epoxy to lift. Also, epoxy was a lot pricier and the concrete polishing was surprisingly budget-friendly for our project, so we went with that instead and we're so glad we did. We really appreciated their honesty and that they wanted us to get the best result rather than trying to upsell us. They got in, got out and did a phenomenal job. We wanted to refinish our severely cracked and somewhat offset 70 year old garage floor. We were told by an epoxy floor finisher that he would not do the job because it would just crack again. Decided to go with polishing. I don't know how many contractors I contacted, but Tomasi was the only one to come out and look at the job. He said he could squeeze me in between a couple of larger jobs and that it would only take a day. (I only had 360 sq. ft.). He and his two workers did a fantastic job! It turned out better than expected. The aggregate in some areas was exposed and looks beautiful. If the floor cracks again (house is on clay soil) I can just fill the cracks with some of the same mix that they used. It matches very nicely. Amy was very easy to contact, either by phone or text.
