A very nice surprise. I had the vegetarian muffalata sandwich. The bread was unique the eggplant and spinach were generous and a very good flavor I had fresh fruit on the side and it was fresh not canned or frozen. My friend had the forage frittata it looked delicious and cheesy with potatoes on the side it was so filling she could not finish. She also had a cold brew coffee that she finished quikly but it was so good. We also had rosemary fries which were delicious. Our server Viviana was helpful, friendly and hard working. In fact it looked like everyone in the was working well. The ambiance of the restaurant is great it is wide open but there are corner booths for some quiet dining if wanted. I waited for awhile well the person that you give the order to us chatting it up with somebody across the restaurant. I walked up to her and ask her if I could order. Sue came up with two huge pieces of focaccia having no butter and the Benedict hash had like no hash in it! I asked to speak to the manager, and as I was telling her my story, she interrupted me and negated everything that I said, and I politely said, never mind walked away and I'm now writing this review. What a find! We were too tired to go back to downtown Asheville so we tried this restaurant in the shopping center next to our hotel. It exceeded our expectations at every level - great waitstaff, lovely ambiance, an accommodating kitchen staff and fantastic food. We had the Zuppa, a flavorful vegetable garlic bisque, mushroom risotto, and an incredible ground lamb, broccolini, tomato sauced pasta. Absolutely perfect in every way. We visited Gemelli only a few days after they had opened. The service was good & the server was very knowledgeable. The food came out relatively quickly even with a new kitchen testing out a brand new menu. The handmade pasta is really great, and the menu has lots of options so you can try out different things. Really aesthetically pleasing decor! The food was great. I'm vegetarian and we had the cacio de peppe and the pumpkin risotto and both were fantastic. We also had the freshly made focaccia and it was SO good we had to get a second order. We also drank the house cabernet which was fantastic. The kitchen took a bit long on our entrees which we didn't say anything about but the manager took it upon himself to offer us free dessert. The service was great! Chose this restaurant because we were staying in a nearby hotel and it was convenient. We did not have a reservation, but they offered us a small table which was fine for us. We really enjoyed the food--just pizza (the "Bianco"), but it was so good. Also, had the Italian Margarita, which was done just right. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I was really surprised how good our meal was today. Everything was perfect from the food to the service. I had a lamb stew over polenta and my partner Ravioli with pesto cream and chicken frito (Milanese). Both were delicious. We finished off with some Tiramisu and it was super as well. Light and airy and a perfect ending after my stew. When we decided we wanted some Italian food on a cool, dreary day, I was thinking chicken Parmesan somewhere. I'm so glad we decided to try Gemelli. Very frustrating dining experience. It took someone about 15 minutes to come to our table to ask if we wanted coffee - there were many open tables, so they were not snowed. The Chai latte I ordered was lukewarm and not very tasty. Two of us ordered the french toast which was one slice of bread that was crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. One friend ordered the Frittata and was very runny when it came to the table. She sent it back and said is was pretty good. The coffee was good. We will not be returning. read more

The restaurant itself is cute. One of the ladies running food was very sweet. But that was sort of all. The bread service is $9 and is just three different slices of bread. Once slice per type. We had 3 adults and a toddler. The toddler loves bread which is why we ordered it to begin with. Not thrilled. We ordered spaghetti noodles with sauce on the side for the toddler. We said it could come whenever as she is slow to eat so it's nice to have before the adult meals. It came out as cavatappi type noodles with the sauce mixed in. The little one was about to cry. We sent it back. They eventually brought her spaghetti noodles with sauce on the side but not until the adults were nearly done with their food. They kindly comped my daughter's pasta (which we did not ask for so it was a nice gesture for sure). I ordered the Gemenelli pasta. It was heavy on the oil as other reviews say. It was okay but wouldn't order it again. My husband was happy with his Caesar handheld. I think my mom found the lasagna a bit dry. We wouldn't come back. Up until this week, we would have rated this 4 1/2 to 5 stars. Their Cioppino Bucatini and Fogliame (great favorite for vegetarian daughter) were outstanding. And Gemelli had become our go-to for birthdays and special occasions. Sadly, they have lost all credibility and become oddly incompetent. Instagram has not been updated in a week and indicates they are closed - they are not, as discovered by phone call after receiving no responses to a DM and an email days ago. After planning Fathers' Day dinner there, we called today and were told they were open but neither Cioppino nor Fogliame were being offered anymore - despite being listed on their website menu!! Person on phone claimed there was a new menu. Daughter now distressed feeling she ruined Fathers' Day and rest of us just ticked off at the blatant ineptitude and lack of accurate information. Thankfully we did not waste time driving there. We expected better from an experienced restauranteur with a couple of locations and years of experience. read more

The place is nice and comfortable. The waitstaff was attentive. But the menu was sparse. We were disappointed that there was no bread served to the table as is usual with Italian restaurants. There was also no side salad served nor an option to purchase one. We ended up sharing a large salad. Presentation of the food was mediocre. 2 in our party ordered the mushroom risotto. Sadly was a miss for us. It was our first visit and we went for the restaurant week menu. The calamari was decent but luke warm, the lasagna also was luke warm and pretty flavorless. There was no flavor to the meat, it was bland and hard to differentiate it between the ricotta cheese. It was odd. Lastly, the deserts were pretty good, the tiramisu and the cannoli. We really want to love this restaurant because the concept is great, and we want to support our neighborhood businesses. However, the counter service was robotic and impersonal, the food took a very long time to arrive at our table, and the frittata was so filled with bitter whole garlic cloves that it was almost inedible (and it was served with stale bread, no less). The menu and Instagram boasts beautiful Italian pastries, but the glass case is sparse and doesn't reflect that supposed bounty. The wine serving bar that greets customers only reminds us that the management doesn't trust waitstaff to pour wine appropriately. The pane Italiano was mediocre French toast at best. The atmosphere is spacious and Wi-Fi is free, so we really wanted to make this our neighborhood hangout. I'd love to sit down with the owner and truly discuss ways to make the menu more accessible and to make this great location reflective of his other successes. read more

First of all - service was good, we were tired , starving ready to eat and go to our room. Visiting Asheville with our kids for the weekend .never been here before. Foccia bread with tapenade very good. I think if we had know at all that pizzas were made with same doughy as foccica therefore very thick We would have shared a few. But we're tasty , black pepper pasta with chicken added , was very lacking in flavor , being it was late and we were so thankful for a table I did not bring this up to server. However I can not recommend this dish , it would be super if meatball or meat sauce were offered as well . Beautiful restaurant, very kind staff limited menu for dinner. read more

Four of us went to dinner here last night and it was the worst experience any of us have ever had. First of all, our reservation was at 7:30 and we didn't get seated until 8:10. They kept blaming the people sitting at our table and saying they were taking a while to get up until we could be seated. Then, no one came over to take our drink orders / give us water for another 10 minutes. Once they brought us water we immediately ordered our food and continued to wait another 50 minutes for our food to be brought out. We got 2 pizzas, and 2 pasta dishes - which shouldn't take that long. At this point the place had pretty much cleared out but the couple of other tables were also complaining about the time it was taking for their food to come out. Once we finally got our food, we asked for the check and had to go up to the counter to pay since it took way too long for anyone to grab our bills. They took off our appetizer, which was nice, but the least they could do. Our dinner took way too long and it was ridiculous. Absolutely wouldn't recommend going here. read more

We are on vacation and found this lovely new Italian place near our hotel-we had a grilled veggie antipasto which was delicious but maybe a little heavy on the olive oil-I had mushroom risotto-very pleasant, and my husband had a pizza-fluffy deep dish style dough with scant toppings-tasty -but I would prefer it less fluffy (too close to pilsbury for my taste) and with more cheese etc it needed more substance as a main dish. A wonderful addition to the Asheville scene. Wonderful food (risotto with duck) , tartar appetizer, Caesar salad (notes on that following) dessert. drinks. Excellent service, great ambiance, comfortable seating, so many good things about the restaurant. I've always said La Strada serves the best prepared duck in Asheville, and that carries over to Gemilli. Caesar salad needs help. Under seasoned, Croutons too large (and maybe too many), and not up to the standard of La Strada or the rest of the dishes on the menu. Change that and it's a 5 star. We'll be back, and are recommending to our friends. read more
