I wish I didn't have to write this, but it needs to be said. I never leave reviews--good or bad--but my experience at this salon has left me deeply disappointed and exhausted. I went to Gemini for the first time in early April, hoping to refresh my hair color after a year of healthy growth. I was clear with Alyssa, the stylist, that I wanted a natural, dimensional look, with my roots still present to allow for an easy grow-out and absolutely no yellow, gold, or warmth. I showed her multiple reference photos of both what I wanted and what I did not want. What I received was the opposite of what I asked for: patchy roots, bright yellow and gold mid-lengths, and overly ashy, grey-white ends. It was a mismatched, inconsistent color. I messaged her immediately and returned the following weekend. This is now my second full day at the salon. The "fix" turned into several more hours of lowlights, toners, and other processes I lost track of. By the end, my hair was dark brown--darker than my natural--with chalky purple tones, especially at the ends. Once again, I expressed how upset I was. The owner, Johnny, was called over. Together Johnny and Alyssa stripped and reprocessed my hair. When I looked again, my hair was blonder, but still had streaks of pink, purple, and yellow--plus a harsh, straight line of demarcation on one side. I was told it would "wash out" and to call if I needed anything else. The idea that shampoo would correct what hours of professional service couldn't is insulting. Johnny said my hair was much better, and asked if I loved it... while my hair was purple and orange. I couldn't find the words to express how I felt. To absolutely despise my hair enough to make me cry several times...that's something I haven't experienced before. After two full days in that salon, my hair was fried, knotty, and breaking. I couldn't wear it down. I deep conditioned and oiled it daily just to manage the damage. I called the salon and explained everything, asking to speak to Johnny. He texted back, offering another visit with a different stylist--but no refund, because "we don't refund professional services." What service? My hair was ruined, not just different than requested--bad. I agreed to try again, hoping for improvement. My third visit was with a new stylist, who was kind and seemed to understand my concerns. I showed her pictures of my hair throughout this whole process. I asked to fix the lines of demarcation, to get rid of the pink and purple colors in my hair, and to make sure that my hair did not have a warm or golden color to it. I said I was ok with anything else.. a beige or sandy bronde color. Just no gold or yellow. I never wanted my hair so blonde, and the warm blonde hues are exactly what I wanted to avoid. Johnny came over at one point during this visit and made a dismissive comment comparing the situation with Alyssa as "taking the wrong bite of chocolate from the chocolate box", that she just wasn't the colorist for me. No accountability. No recognition of the damage and distress I've endured. I had done nothing wrong--I was clear, specific, and respectful throughout. I showed everyone pictures of my hair last year. My hair was untouched for a full year. All damage done to my hair, and need for a color correction was solely due to the colorists at Gemini. This new stylist tried her best. But even after a full session of highlights and two glazes, my hair was still yellow--just a solid honey-yellow color. I asked again, can anything be done? The answer: not really. Just wait for it to grow out or dye it brown again. It has now been a month since my first appointment. A month of hiding my hair under clips and buns. A month of frustration, embarrassment, and trying to repair what should never have been damaged. There has been no true accountability, no apology, and no resolution. This experience has been beyond disappointing. I didn't receive the color I asked for--not once, not twice, not three times. What I did receive was damage, stress, and an overwhelming sense of regret for ever stepping foot in this salon. read more

My coworker recommended Gemini salon since I am new to the area. Jenna is amazing. I came in with some pictures of what I may want. She sat down and explained everything to me, how it would blend in with my skin features, etc. During the process, she took so much time with me. I did not feel rushed at all. I'm used to salons where they overlap clients and this was not a thing here. I was educated on my hair and products to use to maintain the color and look I decided on. LOVE LOVE LOVE, My girl Jennifer is the best. She is so sweet and explains every detail of the service. She is so accommodating. Today I went from brown to blonde and did exactly what I wanted. She offers recommendations and explains the products that she's using and how it reacts with your hair. The salon is big and open. I love the decor it's so chic and just my vibe. They always greet me with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. The place is very clean and bright which is a big plus. There is plenty of parking which is great. Everyone here is pretty cool. I have seen all the stylists work since my hair takes sooo long to complete. I would say everyone who comes in here looks amazing when they leave. they deleted my review on Google and blocked me on social media so I will post here: Me and Alyssa had a conversation about what I wanted from the appointment, my expectations, and I had even provided her with a reference photo along with photos of the current state of my hair. Alyssa had let me know that she would be able to perform the services that I had requested with her. When I arrived at Gemini Hair Salon and Garden at 10:00 for my appointment, I was greeted by Alyssa. She sat me down in her chair and we then had an in person consultation. Ashe was able to see my hair, touch it, and gather the information that she needed to perform the services. We went over the current damage I had; she explained to me that she was confident that she could make my hair like the reference photo I had provided. I explained to her that I did not under any want my hair color to be darker than what it already was. She told me she understood all of my expectations, went to mix the color, and proceeded to apply the lightener and color onto my hair. she told me she would let me sit for 20 minutes and she would be back in time to rinse my hair. Approx 45 min had passed, and Alyssa had come to briefly check on me where I expressed concern that my hair looked very dark. She stated it was fine and left again. Finally, after she had returned and brought me to the sink. She then took me to a salon chair where we both noticed the issues with the color of my hair. She said she needed to fix it, so we went back and she attempted to fix it. This attempt did not work either, and she attempted to fix it again. She left me sitting an excess of time again, she told me she would be back in 10 minutes to let the color develop and did not return for approximately 20 minutes. At this point, I had been in the salon for 3 hours. I noticed my hair began to turn extremely dark. I started to become upset and called my Mother to meet me at the salon for some emotional support. I never saw Alyssa after that, but I was then greeted by the owner, Johnny, who told me "color could be fixed" and I had nothing to worry about. He told me he could fix it for me and that I would only need to pay for the haircut he performed and not the color. He tried to remove some of the dark color that Alyssa had let develop on my hair, and added color to my hair that I did not request. He lightened my hair in areas that I specifically told him I did not want to be lightened. Johnny had turned my brown hair orange. It was not done with careful work. Alyssa had informed me that the most I would be paying for my hair was $230, when I went to the cash register to pay, they had told me it was $275. Because I was there from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM; I was flustered, upset, and confused, I paid the amount of $275. When I went home to check my bank statements they charged me $283.59. This was not disclosed to me and I did not sign off on this price. After seeing my hair in natural light I noticed that my hair was orange, and it was discolored. I reached out to Johnny in hopes we could resolve this. I asked for a refund of services and when he denied it, I let him know that I was going to dispute these charges. He proceeded to threaten to take me to small claims court. He said he would be willing to cover up what was done to my hair, but only if I signed a forum noting that there would be damage done to my hair. I asked him what he would be able to do to fix my hair and he responded with "At this point I will not be answering. I can give you my lawyers information if you have any further questions." I asked him to clarify if he was not willing to fix my hair, he had let me know in order to fix what he and his employee had done, he would need to damage my hair and that I "must" sign a forum to have my hair done by him again. I gave Johnny a tip before leaving as it was the right thing to do. I referred back to their website for pricing in which I discovered what I had asked for: a haircut: $68, a glaze: $50, and a face frame $124, would equal $242.00 read more

Was in the market for a new Hairdresser, decided to try out the fairly new Gemini Salon on Smithtown Boulevard. Called up to make an appointment was told I had to come in for a consult ,scheduled it for 1 o'clock. I walked in, a receptionist said she will be right with you, she's just finishing up. I ended up sitting there for over a half an hour. I walked out and canceled my appointment. This is by the far the best salon i've ever been to. All staff members are so kind and very supportive of each others success. They will work together until they get the most perfect picture of your hair so you can brag! I got my hair done by assistant stylist Olivia a few times and she never disappoints. He is a very talented and artistic colorist and I have had so many compliments on my hair over the years because we are constantly changing things a little bit here and there. Now, I am an old lady and , umm, shall we say "fat", so I am not the normal person who would get compliments on their hair, so that tells you how great it looks when Johnny finishes with me. Johnny took over the Salon exactly the time COVID closed down everything, so I know the renovations are behind schedule, but knowing Johnny, the salon is going to be as gorgeous as one of Johnny's hair styles. read more

I've been searching for a stylist that listens to my requests and then follows through. I am a 76 year old woman who was tired of receiving the same old fashioned, "beehive" hairdos and asked for something up to date and easy to care for. Stylist, Aja, listened and gave me an incredible style that was fantastically modern and easy to maintain. She remembers all the requests from appointment to appointment, and offers suggestions if you want a change. The salon staff is friendly and accommodating and I'll look forward to their new location across the street which will be larger and offer even more services. My 13 year old granddaughter also comes here and loves it! The only reservation I had about writing this review was that if more people came to this salon, it might be difficult to get an appointment! read more

I requested a glaze to brighten up my gray. The receptionist who scheduled me would not schedule me with my hairstylist because she said she doesn't do color. I said I don't want color I just want a glaze. She told me that somebody else does that and she scheduled me with someone else. When I met with the girl who would do my glaze, I told her I wanted to brighten up my gray make it shiny. She told me the glaze would cover my gray. The way I understood that comment was that the glaze (clear!) would brighten up my gray. What she meant was that the "color" she was going to match to my original natural non-gray color was going to cover my gray. There was the breakdown of communication! She kept telling me it would look nice and I believed her however in her mind, color would look nice on me and in my mind I'm going to have my beautiful gray hair brighter and shinier. Trusting the professional, I sat in the chair watching my hair turn dark blue and went into panic mode. It's a large busy salon; I did not want to make a scene so I quietly freaked and let them know I was not expecting colored hair. They said it'll look nice and it washes out. When it was time for my stylist to work on my hair I couldn't think straight. She asked me what I wanted. I told her more layers in the back and crown which she said would not look good; my hair would look stringy. Here's my error-- I've had my hair layered shag with longer tendrils in the past-- so I know it's doable. I was so upset over the color and being told I can't get the look I want, I agreed she cut the length. I regret that because I'm very unhappy with my look right now. It doesn't fit my free-spirit, no fuss personality. I don't blame them completely. I think there was a massive breakdown in communication. My confidence went straight into the... ca ca bowl--talking to professionals not supporting my comments. The purpose of posting this is to help someone else avoid this type of situation. If you love rockin' your gray don't go to a place where you're not being heard or understood. I have the choice of wearing scarves and hats for the next 20 weeks, going somewhere and having the color stripped but then I'd have to get hair extensions because short gray hair is not my style. I wish I could take that day and crumble it up like paper and toss it in the garbage. Your hair, if blessed to have hair, is you. Don't let someone else define you! Two stars reflect communication breakdown, not the abilities and talents of the salon or hair people who worked on me therefore I tipped as I regularly do and simply warn others that if you find you're not being understood, reschedule-- If you're feeling vulnerable, unsure, tired, reschedule! This was my first time going to this salon, I just moved to the area and didn't want to drive back out to nassau to get my haircut. I absolutely loved the experience that I had here! I got a haircut from Carol Ann and she was amazing and so sweet! I have hair down to my butt (which is a pretty big job to cut) and I wanted to keep my length. She cut off the perfect amount to make it healthy yet still maintain my length. Probably the best haircut I've had in a really really long time. honestly very disappointed. the first 2 appointments i went to were great, i had a great hairstylist who was honest about the pricing breakdown, and about where we could get my hair to by the end of the session. upon being really happy with my first few appointments within the past few months, i decided to book another appointment with that same stylist, however i had to cancel the appointment and rebook it with a different stylist because the waitlist was over a month long, (which i was okay with trying someone else for this one time since i cancelled). this appointment is where it went wrong. not to say the stylist did not do a decent job on my hair, but she cut off more hair than i said i was okay with, and charged me for extra hair treatments/serums that i didn't want/ask for, just to upcharge me more. i still paid, and left a good tip, and when i told the front desk about my situation in being charged for things i wasn't told or asked about, (because i knew about those services and tried them before and did not want them again), i was told i would her a call from a manger, to which i never did. that was a couple months ago. however, a few weeks ago i tried calling the salon back to book with the original stylist i had seen the previous 2 times, because i knew she would be honest about the pricing and about my hair results. however when calling to make the appointment and stating my name, i was rudely hung up on. it shows that this salon would rather just take as much money from peoples pockets as they can, not actually caring about keeping stable clients and providing good customer service. i would definitely not recommend this salon because they will charge you for things you didn't ask for in order to make them more money. don't go here!! read more

I went to this salon recently and I was very dissatisfied. I got my hair colored by Lacey, which she did not put far enough foils in and I left with my hair looking exactly the same after paying for a full service. I asked for a balayage and she just put in a few highlights which looked very streaky. The back of my head had a huge spot that was suppose to have color and it looked like someone did it blindly. I called them explaining that I wanted more color and foils and they rescheduled me to come back in a week later. When I explained what I wanted she said "well I don't have time to do that and I'll just do this instead." I felt that I did not get what I paid for, especially because it was a pricey salon. She simply added in a few more foils just to say she did more to my hair when I was charged for a full head of service. After coloring it she told me she did not "have time" to blow out my hair and so I left the salon with a wet head. You would think that after the first time she would have put more work and effort into my appointment, but no. This salon has no customer service or does not care about their customers satisfaction. I should have been treated way better, considering the first time I went I did not get what I wanted. I felt they were so unprofessional in so many ways and I would not recommend this salon to anyone.
