I have been a loyal customer. I have been coming here for 9 years. And have had pretty much all the Stylists work on my hair. Some are better than others. My complaint is that when I'm having my hair colored, and sitting there, with color in my hair, the Colorist, takes other clients in between my appointment. Not paying attention to my hair, and watching to see if my color is coming out right. And frankly keeping me there longer than I want. I remember the days when the Hair Stylist would work on 1 client at a time, from beginning until end. I feel that way people would have an overall better experience with their services. Other than that, I like the positive vibe , this Salon has! I will continue to be a Client. The Owners, are involved, and take pride in their Salon. There are some talented people that work here. I always love how my hair looks when I get it cut here, so I decided to take a leap of faith and try to get it colored here as well. Unfortunately, I was not satisfied at all. I came in wanting a full head of gray hair but I wasn't sure what length I wanted to walk out with, which I let the receptionist know when I made my appointment. I know I'm not great at explaining EXACTLY what I want, so I came with multiple pictures. The person who dyed my hair (Christine) said it wouldn't look the same as the pictures, but I wasn't really told more than that. When she was lightening my hair, I was wondering why there were pieces that were left alone since I wanted my whole head the same color but I didn't question it since I'm not the hair stylist. Long story short, my hair ended up with highlights, which I did not want - and it looked brown. Not gray - not even blonde - but brown. I called the following day to ask to fix it so they made an appointment for me to talk to Christine. At this point I just wanted my hair to be one color - no highlights. (Because having gray highlights would just make it look like I had a bunch of graying hair with my natural hair color.) When I saw Christine a week later, she refused to re-do my hair because she didn't want to compromise the health of it, which is great, but I really wish she told me that before doing anything to my hair and before I had to pay $150 for a look I'm unhappy with. She did offer to tone my hair again, but that's not what I asked for. It's not hideous, but it's not what I asked for at all. I'm very disappointed in the cezanne hair treatment. My hair is not soft and shiny like they claimed it would be. Brazilian is much better. This is using the shampoo and conditioner that goes with the treatment. I had my hair colored. That was ok not great, but ok. They charged Me more than their website advertises. I don't have long hair, it's shoulder length so no reason for the deliberate over charge.Between my $318 bill and tips for the stylist, colorist and shampoo girl my bill was $360 . If you are looking for a perfect manicure or acrylic nails then April is your girl! No drills or other mechanical devices are necessary as she files my acrylic nails so perfectly that another nail tech, when I was in Florida, couldn't believe they weren't my own nails. No chunky, fat nails for me! April has always suggested the perfect colors for my skin tone. But her talents don't stop at my hands. She is also a wiz at brow microblading. Now that I'm a senior ( ugh!) my brows started to thin. April's steady and light touch created fuller more natural looking brows than I could ever do with a brow pencil. First, I'd like to say that this salon is very accommodating. I called and got an appointment the day of. The receptionist was very sweet and upbeat. The haircut was $60. It was quick, seemed more of just a trim, rather then an actual haircut/style. I would say it was just mediocre and totally not worth $60. Oh Symmetry. For years I walked by this salon, too intimidated to go in but for as long as I can remember everyone always walked out looking fabulous. I was getting my hair cut for $12 at the time- so not so great. It wasn't working out and my BF suggested this place. He said he was going to tell the stylist what my hair should look like. I was so nervous my first day, especially because there is something sort of intimidating about the salon but everyone was nice. We got Patty and my BF told her how to cut my long, straight, volume-less hair. And after Patty was done, I could not believe it. My hair looked amazing, cut the way it was supposed to. Layers without thinning the end and able to maintain length. The blowout was amazing. $45 seemed steep at the time as a college student, but worth it. So I went back. For the rest of my time in college, and even AFTER I'd moved to another state for 2 years I went back just for Patty. She did a phenomenal job EVERY TIME. I'd always get compliments on my cut, my hair always looked good. And because the cut was always right, for my face shape and my hair type, I went out of my way to take care of it. Her blowouts were god send, she even gave me tips because at the time I had no clue how to blow dry my hair with style. There were times I let her do whatever she wanted too, because I trusted her so much. Then, one day I asked for front bangs. As if Patty could reach no new high, she soared. Compliments after compliments, my style fit my face SO well. Can you wonder why I drove 200+ miles to go see her? Unfortunately I don't get back to Suffolk much anymore, but I think about how amazing Patty is all the time. She really is a great stylist and she made me so happy with my hair for years. To this day, 3+ years after I stopped going to Symmetry (because of distance), no one can cut my hair the way she did. No one get's long, thick, straight, flat indian hair or how to cut it to give it volume and length without thinning it out. No one has even cut my bangs the way she did. I miss her so much and I would recommend to ANYONE in the area to give this salon a try. Don't be intimidated because everyone is always professional and nice (the hair washers are a mixed bag, but who cares). Also, give Patty a try if you're a girl and trying to figure out what to do with your hair. read more

Ok, I know I'm gonna sound like a total biatch saying this, but it's well known and I'm just gonna say it.....Long Island is known for some interesting hair and nails (wasn't mall hair invented here). That said, I was really reluctant to get my hair trimmed here, but after traveling all over the country and REALLY over due, I Yelped hair salons and found this place. I read all the reviews and decided to call and ask for Patty. Yippee Yelp!! You did great! I absolutely loved my hair and will make it a point to time my trips so that I can "get my hairs did" while I'm here. I just moved to Long Island and was looking for a place to cut my hair. So happy I found this one! It's nice and classy and Kim did a great job with my hair :) she is also super nice and patient. My new favorite hair person! Shampooing was really pleasant too; I felt like I got a nice soothing head massage. And they give complimentary tea and coffee. First time going to Symmetry. I was running errands in the same shopping center and needed a haircut and touchup (slightly lighter brown) on my ombre hair, and noticed their salon and asked for an available time. This review is only about my colorist (Gail) and hairstylist (Lindsay). The lady who colored my hair (Gail) was very sweet but she had no intuition about ombre hair. Ombre is very tricky to do, especially because I have black hair. She could tell I was dissatisfied and offered to put toner on it but at that point I had already been there three hours and I didn't trust her to do anything further with my hair. Lindsay's trim seemed fine, but they took a picture of my hair from the back and the cut seemed very uneven so all-in-all I was not happy with the ombre or the trim of my original layers. I would like to post a picture but I'm not sure how to. When I figure it out if it allows me to attach a picture I will edit this post. Cut was $45 for a trim with the layers I already had and "blowout" that I didn't ask for. Ombre coloring was $150 and NOT WORTH IT. I had gotten ombre done at other places for $70-$100....with much better results. Currently looking for another hair salon to fix this mess. read more

I have been getting my lash extensions here at Symmetry by Christine for years now, and I absolutely love them!! She does such a beautiful job, and I wouldn't trust anyone else to touch them! I have gone in for my appointment with my own lashes looking awful, but no matter what, she has me leaving looking and feeling fabulous again. My lashes are just an extension of me at this point, and I can't imagine not having them. The staff is always super helpful too, and they fit me in, even at the busiest times. I went here to see Liz after being referred by more former hair stylist (who unfortunately moved out of state.) Liz was nice enough, though not super friendly (I had to keep the conversation going and she left me alone for the 30 minutes that my hair was sitting in color.) The color was ok though some of the dye got on my sweater and the cut was pretty good. I told her that since I have curly hair I would prefer to not have it blown out straight but to have it diffused curly so I could get a sense of the finished product. She said that was fine. Here's where the major problems occurred. She TOWEL DRIED my hair and began raking her fingers through it until it was barely damp. I asked her if she was going to put any product in it before she diffused it and she said yes, disappeared, and came back a few minutes later with said product on her hands and started raking it through my mostly dry hair. She asked me what was wrong and I told her that with curly hair, you have to apply product to mostly wet hair and that applying it to mostly dry hair will end with a bad result (frizz, poor curls, etc.) She came back with a spray bottle and spritzed my hair and continued raking her hands through it. She then turned on a dryer with a "sock" on it - when I asked if she had a diffuser attachment she said she did but it didn't fit the dryer, so she held that with her other hand and clearly had no idea how to use it. Hardly any air came out of the dryer and she eventually turned it off and told me that since my hair wasn't curling so well (Ummm because of all of the aforementioned styling errors) she was going to use a curling iron ON MY DAMP HAIR. When I objected to this she asked me if I was sure and I confirmed. When she asked me how she could fix it I informed her that at this point there wasn't much she could do. She then offered to REWASH my hair...my just colored, just shampooed hair. I explained that would just dry my hair out and told her it was ok because at this point, it had been almost 3 hours and I just wanted to go home and I didn't have any confidence in her ability to fix her errors. She then tried to put it back on me and tell me next time to bring in a photo of my hair styled so she has reference...to which I responded that my hair was styled when she met me that same day so I didn't see why I would need a photo. I payed and told the lady that I payed the issues and she had the same resolve; to rewash the hair....Needless to say, I will not be back. I left that salon in tears and with hair like a clown.... read more

Annie at Symmetry has been cutting my hair for 20 years, since my first baby (now 21) was a year old and I needed to cut off my lifetime long hair. Before cutting it, she talked to me for a while to get a sense of what I wanted. (I didn't know!). Fast forward 20 years: Annie is EXTREMELY talented and detailed and consistent. She can make my hair look exactly the same each time, if that's what I want. Each time she talks to me first, to make sure she knows what I want. 20 years later, I still don't know, and I rely on her to help me know what I want, and she always gets it right. Separate from her top notch skill, Annie is just beautiful, outside and in, always positive, kind, no gossip, no BS EVER. I haven't been here often but both times I had a great experience. I had my hair blown out and curled for a dance performance and I had great voluminous hair all day into the night. Just the other day I went back to have Liz do tape-in hair extensions, which I was very hesitant about but she did an amazing job. I went to Symmetry today. My first visit. I called around 2 and was given an appointment for 3. I got there late due to MY miscalculation on traffic and was greeted with a smile and "Don't worry about it." I have been growing my hair out for 3 years. A little trim here and there, but no major cutting. I decided to donate it; that's why I wanted a real hair cut. I told my stylist, Patty, that I needed the 9 inch ponytail cut off first. She asked "are you sure?" and with my approval she snipped it off. She even put it in a plastic bag for me after sending me to the shampoo station. The shampoo....artist was great!!! I LOVE getting my hair washed when I get a cut because it feels so nice. I didn't catch her name, but she was lovely. Sometimes, when a salon has specific people to do the shampooing they can get a little rough or seem "in a hurry", but that was NOT the case. She took her time, asked a few questions, but mostly just let me ENJOY the service. She was asked a question by a coworker while washing my hair and apologized to me for the interruption!! :-) That NEVER happens. After my wash I was offered a drink and taken to the stylist's chair. I declined the drink as I had a Coke in my purse, but thought it was a very nice touch! If I had been thirsty I would have taken her up on the offer! Patty asked me what I was looking for since all the length was gone. I explained the style as unlayered and short in the back and angled downward in the front about even with my chin. I have fairly thin, fine, curly hair. With it long I can do layers...and need to for volumes sake, but not so much with it shorter. It tends to get "BIG" or "puffy" with short layers. She did her "thing" and POOF (but not puff) I had a fantastic style. She showed me what it looked like curly (amazing) and then straightened it for me (fantabulous!). I love, Love LOVE my hair! Tons of movement, perfect shape and so pretty. :-D Anyway, long story short, for $45 I got a wash, cut and style. Not what I consider "cheap", but WELL worth the price. Most true salons start cuts for women around $50. If you are looking for a basic, no frills hair cut go elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for a professional, CLEAN and well kept Salon with expert stylists who LISTEN to what you want and CARE how you look (since you are a walking advertisement) check out Symmetry.
