I got my hair cut by Renee, who was very pleasant and nice, but the outcome was far from I have imagined. I came with a specific style and a picture I had in mind, I asked Renee whether it was doable on my hair and she said absolutely yes, with the only difference that I didn't want too short in the back. I ended up losing at least 5 inches of my hair for a hairstyle I was embarrassed to go to work with, I had to put my hair in a pony, but even pony looked so bad, that people who noticed that my long hair was gone, questioned why I have random long pieces sticking out. I spent $40 and left $5 tip because Renee was very nice, but I am currently looking for professional to fix my hair so that I could wear it down again. Sorry. read more

Went to Hype 2-3 times for a single process color with Aveda and Karen was very professional, friendly and genuinely cared about what I wanted. It's important for me to use hair color that's less toxic than other brands. Highly recommend Karen and this salon offers competitive prices, nothing crazy, but pretty much in line with what I expected. I like that I typically don't have to wait a long time to get my hair colored and I'm usually there a little more than an hour. I've had others take at least 2 hours at other salons and that's why I keep coming back to Hype. Who has time to spend hours getting their hair done?! Hype gets it done and it comes out great with Karen. I might try a dry haircut, or Devacurl cut, with Renee next time. read more

Sure, I've gotten fantastic haircuts before, but usually not for $35, and they usually dont look as good a few days later without styling. I certainly don't get haircuts as often as I should but that's probably because I haven't found a good place until now. Hype opened its doors less than a year ago, but I only went a few weeks ago. Inside is very chic and modern. The staff is friendly and helpful. After the shampooing and conditioning, my haircut and blowdry probably took only about 15-20 min, and I was a bit wary. I liked it right after coming out of the salon, but the real test is how well it grows out. Three weeks later, I'm still loving my haircut, and it's a total no-fuss-get-up-and- go haircut, exactly what I was looking for. I am thrilled about this salon and it's less than 5 minutes away from me. Totally off topic, but beware of the red light camera when you make a right onto Terry Rd from 347! My haircut was $80 more expensive that day because I failed to make a full stop making a right! read more

After hearing all the "hype" about this place decided to try it. On the recommendation of others I saw Janet for color and highlights. I stressed as much as I could that I wanted them blonde but they all came out red. It was so hideous I didn't even want to go to work the next morning. I ultimately had to spend a small fortune to get them corrected and the salon I went to wanted to know if I tried doing my hair at home. The highlights were never fully processed which is why they looked so ghastly and the placement was amateurish. The place may be cheap but you get what you pay for. Never again! read more

Terrible service, long wait. I was supposed to get my hair colored at 1:30 by Martha. 1:55 rolls around and I'm still sitting on the couch waiting as I see her still curling someone's hair. No apologies for the long wait, no one says she will be with you at this time absolutely NOTHING! I was told when I walked in at 1:25 she would be a FEW minutes. I ended up walking out! Never mind the fact that on Tuesday when I called to schedule a hair cut for my son I was told the person who was going to cut my hair after my color had quit. I never got a phone call nothing! If I hadn't called on a separate issue who knows if they would have bothered letting me know. Front desk is rude and unprofessional. I've never experienced such unprofessional rude service, they may be cheap but you get what you pay for! Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else. read more

I've been salon hoping for a bit now to find someone who is creative and out of the box. I went to hype for a blowout last Christmas and fell in love with Renee. I traveled 340 miles round trip--over 8 hours in horrible traffic--so that Janet could do my hair. I moved to PA, tried a new hairdresser and instead of the lowlights I asked for (my hair got too light over the summer from being outside), she made my hair WHITE. Tried to have her correct it but she couldn't. Janet was my hairdresser for years, and I knew she could fix my hair--my natural hair color is blonde, not white. Janet corrected all the bad things that were done to my hair and made it look fabulous. I am probably the only client that has traveled that far to Hype, but Janet is TOTALLY worth it. She pays attention to what you say, offers her own ideas/opinion and then makes you look fabulous. I love her so much that I am considering making that grueling trip a few times a year just to have her cut my hair. She is that good. The salon is decorated so that you feel like you are in NYC, but you don't have to pay NYC prices. I can't say enough good things about Janet's skills. She rocks! read more

I decided to give this salon a try as it was close to where I live & needed a new stylist. It is a stylish modern decor & looked nice (It did look a little like an assembly-line style hair shop). The nice features ends there. My haircut was terrible. I explained to the hairstylist that my hair is fine & can be difficult, but she rushed as if she already knew. I am willing to pay for a good haircut, but my $40 haircut was unworthy of salon quality & more of a 'supercuts' quality. The hairdresser spent 7min on my haircut. More time was spent on the blow out. Ridiculous! There is no way a 7min haircut on long hair is going to look good because even bad haircuts initially appear nice with a blow out! (My husband's haircut at a barber takes longer than that!) A good haircut will look good even damp, especially because the hair strands & style sits well. My hair looked unchanged & flat. The stylist attempted to explain that my hair is black colored so you cannot see the layers & style. Umm, I have lived with my hair for 40years & have had many haircuts at many salons - I know what my hair is like & does, especially after a GOOD haircut. She was kind in trying to re-cut my hair with a 3rd attempt or curl it (which only masks the ugliness) but at that point, she was already behind the 8 ball & would only make situations worse. Overall, how you feel about a haircut the next day (once the artificial fluff & spray wears off) is a true testament of a good haircut - today I am very unhappy. My hair is very choppy, with abrupt layers like a staircase appearance. Never again! Maybe it was just the hairstylist but if there is a better hairstylist there, I will never return to find out. read more
