***THIS ESTABLISHMENT REFUSED TO ALLOW MY SERVICE ANIMAL INSIDE*** I came here on 4/16/23 at around 12:30pm to pick up lunch with my fiancé and our service animal. I asked my fiancé to hold my service animal dog instead of having him walk in as the place looked really crowded. As we were waiting in line, one of the employees with black hair tied up in a pony tail asked us to take our dog outside because "they do not allow pets". Although she asked nicely, I did not want to make a scene because I am tired of arguing with people back and forth and feeling discriminated against so I quietly asked my fiancé to step outside with our service animal while I waited inside to place our order. FYI - The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) stipulates that individuals with disabilities are entitled to broad public access for their service dogs. Unless there is a legitimate safety concern, the animals are allowed to accompany their handlers to stores, restaurants, buses--any place open to the public. Businesses and organizations that serve the public have a responsibility to serve all their customers equally well. It is also not mandatory either under California or federal rules to have an identification card or vest on our Service Dog. I will not be returning to this business to place any future orders and I will be SURE to file a complaint against this business by submitting a report on the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division website today. Update 4/22/23 to business owner response: Your staff quickly made the assumption my dog was a pet. For your information, a public place can ask only two questions to determine if that individual's dog is a service dog: 1) whether the dog is required because of a disability, and 2) what work the dog is trained to perform. I would suggest educating your shard to ask these questions FIRST. Thanks! read more

I drove from Costa Mesa to Long Beach to checkout this restaurant, I heard such great reviews...my expectations were exactly what I thought, it's outstanding place the lumpia were so amazing I bought 25 to try them I wasn't disappointed at all wish now I should've order more .. I also had the beef stew with potato.. the sauce was so delicious.. order cake slice and macaroon cookies.. I definitely will be going back to pick up another order of lumpia for sure .. I saw a review of Gemmae Bake Shop and wanted to give it a try. I am always excited to see a new Filipino shop or restaurant sprout up thinking "is it our time yet!?". I believe that Gemmae Bake Shop is on the right track to help continue driving visibility of Filipino cuisine. The shop has an array of baked goods, cold goods in the fridge, cakes, and turo-turo (point-point) section. It's a nice, bright place with plenty of room for rush hours. If you're not familiar, this is very similar to scoop Chinese food places like Panda Express. We got a couple of things to try and get our own opinion of the place. Our order consisted of: Ube Pandan Ensyamada Ube Ensaymada Ube Macapuno Ensyamada - All three of these were good, soft, and generously filled with filling. Bibingka - A bit dry and lacking of filling on this one. I tried it cold and heating it up. Even with a pad of butter, it was still a bit on the dry side. Buko Pandan Salad - Longonisa Pandesal - This was very dry and lacked filling. It may have been the one that I got, but didn't really like it. 25pc Lumpia - Fantastic. This was hands down the best thing that we had. It comes with sweet and sour sauce and doesn't come as the typical small fried lumpia that you would get. These are about double the size, packed with flavor and are delicious. Definitely worth the money. I'll be coming back and updating my review. I'm a fan of savory breads and was disappointed by the longonisa pandesal. Bibingka is also one of my favorites and it's really accentuated by the salty egg that's in there. This one just happened to be lacking in that department and, as I mentioned, the dryness of the bread. I'm hoping that it was just a fluke. read more

wow this has been on my yelp saved foreverrrrr. but i literally say that about everything but this was actually on my yelp saved cuz of instagram. and since i flew back to lgb. i was like pleaseeeeeeeeeeee let me go here. so we did even though i had an eye doctors appointment within the next hour. getting there was a bit long cuz of traffic but we got there and we got like four items. pandan and ube and bibingka. we didn't eat any of them right away and just shoved it in the fridge but two days later i was feeling big backed and ate an entire one. like rawdogged it and ate it cold too. but it was still good. but then i learned my lesson and read the label and it said to grill it and i did and omg was that a life changing experience. it tasted SOOOOO good toasted omg. i don't think i would go here again because it is so out of the way, but i think it's a place you should at least try once. yup! 4.5 stars! read more

Ordered 50 lumpia for $26. I easily placed an order online 2 nights in advanced. Paid online. Picked up in person. Minimal line and wait. The order came with plenty of sauce. It was packaged very well.. in a sturdy box so it was easy to carry. Wish I had taken a photo but we started eating them too quick! Absolutely perfect for my friends baby shower. I stopped here on my way to a show in downtown Long Beach. It was in a small shopping center and the parking is tight. There were 2 employees helping customers so I had to wait a little bit but it wasn't bad. It was the afternoon so a lot of the baked goods were not available but I got the ube pandesal with cheese, ube ensaymada, and longanisa pandesal. Unfortunately, the pandesal bread was really dry and the longanisa was chopped up so little I couldn't really taste it, it just crumbled. Maybe I didn't get it fresh enough so I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt because I liked the idea of their products. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again though. read more

Anyone who lives in Long Beach knows @gemmaebakeshop has some super delicious Filipino baked goods. They've been at it since 1993!! But have you tried their hot food?! I typically go to Gemmae to get my Ube fix. But on my most recent trip, I decided to try out some of their hot food items; one of which is a best seller. Here's the deal. - This dish consists of glass noodles, egg noodles, fish balls, chicken, shrimp, and veggies cooked in big wok. It's then garnished with green onions and a hard boiled egg. It's super tasty and I dug it. Given the fish balls and shrimp in it, the seafood flavor wasn't overwhelming...it was just right! The glass and egg noodles combo was surprisingly nice being that I'm not too big on glass noodles. And you'll get a super generous the portion size, too. So you certainly won't be left hungry! All-in-all, I'll definitely be hitting up Gemmae Bake Shop more often for their hot food selection. The Pancit was a nice intro and I'm sure the other items are just as awesome. This place is a gem for sure! Goldilocks who? Red Ribbon who? Waaay better. We got the ube cheese pan de sal, ube cheesecake, ube hopia, bibingka, casava cake , cheese ensaymada, pandan ube ensaymada, and chicken siopao. Sounds like a lot, I know. Lol, we drove almost an hour so we had to make the trip worth it. The first thing I tasted was the ube cheesecake. And while it only had a hint of ube it was still delicious! It's probably one of my fave cheeseckaes of all time. The cheese ube pan de sal had actual cheese inside, like what? I always get fooled at other places thinking there's cheese inside when there isn't. Also really enjoyed both ensaymadas. Not too sweet! Overall we enjoyed everything and will be back to take the rest of the fam. I will warn you that parking is a b. It is a highly rated Filipino just east off the 710. Upon entering it is very clean and the staff were quite helpful. They have hot pan de sal only when the open at 6:30 until 8 am. They also have combination plates like a "point-point" style both for breakfast and for lunch or dinner, you need to call them for what dishes they are serving as it varies.. there are no tables so it it's strictly a "to-go"place.
