We were regulars for years. It was a family gathering which we loved! Sadly, We just came for lunch today and was disappointed. Food is mediocre,nonexistent service, and the price...unfortunately they neglected to tell us they don't have "lunch prices" even though its on the menu. (false advertisement). Everything has a mexican taste to it now with the korean soup tasting like albondigas, green and red bell peppers on everything (japchae,meats) . Currently, during this self-isolation period, they are open for take out.. raw meats, banchan (sides), and beverages with reasonable prices and large servings! I remember when Gen used to be the spot to go eat with your friends. Although the servers are friendly it doesn't compensate for the atrocious food they serve. I feel bad for the servers, they must be embarrassed to serve this kind of food. The music is also so loud... feel like they're competing with the cantina in the corner. First time doing Korean BBQ and it was a great experience here. Staff was friendly and attentive and we were seated immediately. I appreciated the all you can eat style because it allowed us to try a large variety of different meats and sides. Everything was good, but the steak and cheesy corn were my favorites. I would like to come back and experiment more with the seasonings and sauces they provided. This place used to be one of my favorite places to eat but since the new changes, I don't think we will return. Service was slower than usual. (We were there at 4pm on a Tuesday, not sure if the server was new) our food was brought out in a timely manner; however, our drinks never came. We had to ask another server to get us drinks. Also our server forgot to get items we ordered and we had to continuously ask for our items. KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) - the batter is a different type of batter not your typical KFC. The food is always good. The process of getting into a table is always a head ache. We had a large party and we're waiting on 1 person, the hostess would not seat us until all 13 of us were there. We had 12. It's ridiculous if you ask me. The menu on the QR code also doesn't have the same drinks that the bar has so that was a bummer. The beer came out quickly but was warm. This place is great for a chill dinner with friends or family. I brought my family here after visiting other locations with friends. There's plenty of parking outside and the staff here was very friendly. Some of the items were different which was a bummer but overall there were still great choices. I'd recommend the honey chicken and pork bulgogi, those are some of my favorite items. It is more expensive than your average sit down restaurant but it is 100% worth it. The service is great and wait wasn't very long. They constantly check in to see how your doing and if you need more meats/ sides/ drinks. I highly recommend the adult juice box beverage. read more

1st issue: We got a community table that at first glance wasn't even cleaned. We asked to be moved to a booth. They put us back at the bottom of the list and made us wait all over again. I finally had enough of waiting and asked the hostess why we had been waiting so long. They had the manager come and check in with us. She didn't even know what was going on. There was another couple that apparently was going through the same issue. We've been here for years and have never had to go through this when asking for a change in seating. This should've been a warning for us. 2nd issue: Some of the plates we got still had some grime and didn't seem that clean. 3rd issue: You can just tell the quality of the meat has changed. It is not the same anymore. The steak was so tough, I could not even chew it. Some of the meats were really salty. The KFC was all breading no chicken. I do want to say the servers are on top of it and extremely nice. Nothing wrong with them. I would say the staffing issues come from the hostess' at the front since none of them seem like they want to be there. I also don't know why there's like 4 of them up there if they're all doing the same job? Seems unnecessary. In conclusion it is blatantly obvious that they are under new ownership. As we looked around we noticed all the changes. The staff is all new, the ambiance/decorations have all changed, the meats look different so they have a new meat vendor. It's so disappointing since this has been our favorite place for years. Now seeing it under new ownership and changed in the worst way possible is depressing. I don't know if we want to come back anymore. We rather just make the drive to LA if we want good quality Korean BBQ. Shout out Essence, we've had her as our server previously and each time has been great! She's attentive, and checks in when she sees we might need to put in another order or may need a drink refill. The busboys are also great at clearing the table of empty plates and offer grill changes. We let them know we appreciate them each time they come up, and they're responsive and respectful. We were seated very quickly for a Saturday night and the service was fast. The front of house staff was friendly and professional. We did not wait ONE second for our starters and drinks. Quality went down tremendously since the last time my boyfriend and I came. This place used to be our favorite in the collection. Half our order never came. Had to remind server multiple times. Service was considerably slower and bussers were brass. It really is disappointing to see one of our favorite spots go so downhill. Quality of the food was mediocre. We were served a piece of fat instead of a steak and asked the runner to replace it and never got a replacement. Gen is one of the better AYCE Korean BBQ places to go to as they have a large selection of meats with delicious sides. I will do a pros and cons to make it easy. Pros - The meat here is actually very good. I suggest getting the beef brisket, bulgogi, and short rib - The sides are awesome. Veggies are delicious, corn and cheese is a must, and quite a few others - The tables are pretty big so you are not crammed up. - The servers seem to help each other out which is a good thing for us customers. - Prices are on point for both lunch and dinner Cons - Lines can be extra long and the wait can be a bit too much - Service can be a bit slow. Now, Gen isn't exactly my go-to when I want Kbbq but when I'm stuck in Ventura, this is the best I can get. So, I took my staff to eat here before thanksgiving break and they loved it. The food was fresh and the service was fast. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and decently ventilated. There is absolutely nothing more I can ask for. However the star of the show was Jorge, our sever, or probably one of the supervisors. He moved us to a more comfortable table after we asked to not be seated in the smaller room. He happily moved us and made sure we were taken care of. ALL of our food came out fast and we were never left without food. He was kind, courteous, and so, so, efficient. The new management of this place has good very badly. Me and my girlfriend have been coming here for a long time and never had an issue with the food or service. This most recent time we've gone and it will sadly be our last time we ordered steak and the server brought us this lump of fat with some actual meat on it. They were training this new guy to get the dishes and change out the grills, he took the grill out of our table while we were finishing up our last meat before ordering more and he took it and was walking around with it not being careful at all about other people and servers. And when we told management that the food was awful and service was always bad... the manager had this attitude kept hanging up on me mid conversation on the phone and kept talking smack about him not wanting to do his job... they need to fix this. read more

Gen has always been one of my family's favorite restaurants, but today will be the last time we dine here after the changes they've made. they've changed their menu completely, they've gotten rid of some of our favorite dishes and the ones that they did keep they've swapped out the quality of the meats or sides as well. The KFC made me almost laugh when it came out...it used to be authentic crispy korean chicken and now it's like store bought frozen popcorn chicken with some sauce drizzled on it. I am sad to say that I have made my final voyage to Gen. The menu and management have changed. My precious spicy rice cakes are no more. The KFC chicken, no longer. Cheese corn, gone. So disappointed with the waitlist. We placed ourselves on the waitlist and waited 2 hours until we were 4th in line. We went to the host and they told us that our waitlist on yelp didn't matter and we would still have to wait another hour!! We obviously complained to the manager, who was aware of the issue with Yelp, but was not willing to accommodate our party or any other parties who had the same issue. We DID wait 35 more minutes for a table. Server and bartender were courteous and willing to serve us. But again, we're disappointed in serving sizes. We were a party of four and when ordering servings of meat, they were a few tiny pieces, only enough for 1 person. We would order multiple servings at a time and still receive only one and had to remind our server regularly of what we needed. I've gone to other Gen KBBQ before but this one was the worst so far. We drove an hour and a half out here too, and would never come back to this restaurant. read more

Great service and selection of AYCE bbq and ban chan. Great for big groups - we were a group of 10 and so nice to sit together and interact with each other. They have wide windows so even if indoors, good air circulation. We live in Santa Clarita and typically we drive to K town in Los Angeles but have to drive in traffic and find parking. I have been coming to eat at Gen Korean BBQ since it opened here in Riverpark. Sure the meat sauces changed but we came tonight and it was horrible. I call it like I see it. The KFC use to be chicken and now they are plain chicken nuggets with the KFC sauce. The Beef bulgogi meat is clumpy now and the other meat tastes less like it use to. I was informed the original owners sold the restaurant and it is apparent. The service is good but the food quality has gone down hill. I really hope these new owners get back on track as the previous owners built this place up to a great restaurant. If you want mediocre food this is a place for you. I will definitely will not be coming back. I miss the old Gen. The place still looks decent inside but the upkeep and cleanliness of the bathrooms and floors is dirty. If the new owners of GEN would like to get ahold of me please respond to this review. I would be happy to help get this place back on track.
