Dropped into Kabuki at The Collection in Ventura for a quick bite and lucked into happy hour -- got seated right away on a Saturday evening,. Ordered mostly rolls and a few appetizers. Honestly? Solid, reliable mid-tier mall sushi in a good way. Nothing mind-blowing or destination-worthy, but crispy where it should be crispy, fish was soft and fresh, not overly salty, and service was friendly and efficient. Shoutout to the rice being properly cooked -- sounds like a low bar, but a lot of places miss that, and it makes a difference. Overall: dependable spot when you want satisfying sushi and happy hour deals without overthinking it. Not extraordinary, but reliably good. Price was very reasonable.

Mixed feelings on this place. I've been here 4 times and 2 times we had a bad experience. On the positive side, the entrees are delicious, the customer service is great, and everyone is very sweet. Some dishes are definitely better than others, but overall the food is solid and priced fairly compared to competitors. The reason for the lower rating is that on 2 separate occasions, not close together at all, my son got sick after eating sushi and on another visit my husband did as well. We didn't want to assume anything after the first time since we're big sushi fans, but after it happened again with my husband, we may need to take a break for now. That being said, I still encourage people to try it because the other experiences we've had were great.

I have been here several times and the food is always good. However this time service was terrible as it took almost an hour to get our main course. The manager was super nice and made things right. Our server was very friendly but hardly checked in with us and my son's water ran out and was not refilled for more than 30 mins. Might give it one more try but not sure. The restaurant is comfortable with both tables and booths.

This wasn't my first time here, but I wanted to give it a few more visits before writing a fair and detailed review. I stopped by on Saturday for lunch right before happy hour. I was craving something fresh, and Kabuki happened to catch my eye. One thing I do appreciate is how quickly they seat you. We were seated immediately upon walking in. However, the table we were given wasn't really to my liking, so I asked if it was possible to move to a booth. The host mentioned she couldn't move us because it would give the waiter an extra table, which I didn't fully understand. I didn't push the issue and stayed at the original table. I do have to say, our waiter--unfortunately I didn't catch his name--was extremely sweet and attentive. He gave great recommendations and patiently answered all of our questions, which I really appreciated. As for the food, it honestly wasn't great. If you're looking for something quick and convenient, this place might work, but if you're looking for quality food, I wouldn't recommend it. We started with the clams, which were decent but a bit bland. We also ordered the shishito peppers and ended up leaving the entire plate--they were simply not good and very disappointing. For our main course, we ordered the Lover's Table, which includes teriyaki chicken, steak, beef ribs, two gyozas, two pieces of sushi, two pieces of tempura shrimp, and fried vegetables, along with complimentary soup and salad. Out of everything, the soup and salad were honestly the best parts of the meal. The steak, in particular, was not good. One positive note is that they do have a sushi bar if you're really into sushi. The music is kept at a low volume, which makes it easy to have a conversation. Overall, this just isn't a place I'd come back to.

Came here on the Saturday night after Christmas and it was busy. It seemed like they didn't have enough servers. We waited 45 minutes for a table. Got a $10 mocktail from the bar to help pass the time. Unfortunately, the floors were sticky and the bathroom was kinda gross. I had some toilet paper stick to my shoe yet didn't realize it until I returned to my table. We had a wonderful server I could tell he was doing his best. It did take a while for our food to come out though. The food is good here although the wait times suck and the ambiance is lacking. 2 orders of the edamame and drinks kept us sane. I got a small salad with my soup and that was tasty. Once my Tonkotsu ramen arrived, I devoured that and felt quite satisfied. Once seated, service is decent. It can be pricey, depending on what you order. Have been here several times with my mom and her girlfriends and our experiences have been mixed. Not sure I'd come back.

Been going for years with the fam for special events (birthdays, holidays, etc.) Mother's Day 2026 was easily the best of all of them. Andrew made our time there super memorable and the food was top notch. Stop by, you won't regret it.

Came for happy hour on a Friday, it was poppin in the bar area but service was super quick and very efficient! HH is Monday through Friday til 6 pm. Fried gyoza was flavorful, yellowtail roll was fresh and tasty. Sapporo draft was $3 on HH. Great!!!!

Slower service . Only one server , Nate but he was wonderful! Not too too busy but since only a server or maybe two, it took awhile to get tended to. Happy Hour is where it's at! Loved all my rolls. My friend Laye Laye treated me for my birthday and even had them bring out a bday treat. So sweet and kind ! This spot is pretty modern and located at The Collection in Oxnard. I really like going to the Happy Hour here every so often. The reverse Happy Hour is also great .

Happy hour pricing is great. Good quality food at a great price. Nice ambiance. The only problem we had was a long wait + the server was always somewhere else. It gets quite busy here. If you have a lot of time and want to catch up with friends, its great. If you want a good meal and get out quick, be prepared to wait

I like this Japanese restaurant. Besides great happy hour deals, the regular menu is also pretty decent. I love their creamy shrimp crab udon and my boyfriend liked the beef yakisoba, the only thing he said it is a bit too greasy. Service is always good here, never had any problems. Atmosphere is nice.

It's a very nice place I really love the mushroom miso soup it's really good and it's not like regular miso soup with the under whelming but it's like the best miso soup. I also really like the interior it's very nice. The servers there were also quite nice but I think they got a little weirded out when I chugged 3 glasses of water lol.

This spot was just okay to me Nothing was awful or inedible We got seated and the hostess and waitress were both very nice and our food came out quickly The "crispy" rice with spicy salmon was not crispy and even if it was thee bite way too large to just pop in your mouth, then when you did take the huge bite it was soggy rice. The steak we got on the plate was not tender but chewy, and the meats overall barely had any flavor including the chicken. My biggest upset was the white rice they give you on the side is not Asian long grain rice, it tastes like goya short grain Spanish rice. It wasn't sushi rice, which was weird and disappointing, we did not eat it. The vegetable tempura was really good surprisingly and they have Asian sweet potatoes in the mix as well which was the most delicious thing I ate here Unfortunately won't be coming back because it was just okay and nothing blew me away Unsweetened ice tea for $7 I enjoyed the ambiance, service, and bathrooms are clean.

Worse roll ever. It made me cry!

I'm not sure if the shop has a/c and it was not working or if they do not have a/c but was too hot to sit down inside with our ice cream. I've only had the Taiyaki (fish waffle with filling) at the shop in the Ventura Harbor so this was my first time trying a different shop's Taiyaki. The cashier took our order and our ice creams were ready within 7-8 minutes. I ordered an Ubechata Taiyaki with Oreo crumbs for my topping and Nutella as the filling inside of the Taiyaki. It was a great tasting ice cream and the Taiyaki was filled with ice cream and Nutella. So I felt like it was a good amount of ice cream. At $8.50 it felt like a good value. The other desserts looked delicious but the bowls servings looked larger and was $13+. This is a great addition to the Collection and is great if you are craving a Taiyaki but don't want to go to Ventura harbor.

We went on a Saturday around 8 pm and it happened that they have happy hour. Not impressive either. It was 4 adults, 1 child and 1 baby in stroller . ONLY 4 adults ate. But somehow they charged 20% gratuity! What? Why? Because you're taking seats. Never heard of such a thing. Anyways this won't happen again as we won't be returning here Let's start since we got there. Saturday night at 8 pm. 2 of us for raw sushi and the other two don't like raw so they had Yakisoba and chicken teriyaki. So the sushi came first and we finished our food and the Yakisoba and chicken teriyaki is still not here. We had 4 different servers come asking for things and orders and one of them asked if we got the bill when we hadn't even gotten our food. Not to mention when we asked for straws. It was thrown on the table which is also unacceptable. Finally the hot food came and we decided we wanted more raw sushi and here comes another 25 minutes and still nothing. When the bill came and I saw we were charged for gratuity, I didn't like that because first of all, service was horrible, we didn't get to enjoy the meal together we kept looking to see if our food is coming. Then cherry on top, you would think the owner would try to make it better. No, it was even worse. Yea because you were taking seats. I said there is a kid in stroller and another kid who can't eat sushi. If you have kids, don't bring them because they'll charge you for the seat! The 2 stars is for the chaos roll and salmon sashimi. Everything else was NOT worth it Ridiculous and won't be returning

There are multiple Teppan stations on one side of the restaurant and the other side is set up for sushi dining. We arrived 15 minutes before they opened and started seating. We were seated very promptly at 4:30 by a very friendly hostess. We were surprised to see the restaurant at least in the Tappan area full by 5 o'clock. That's always a good sign. You want to eat at a busy restaurant. The Teppanyaki menu has you choose your proteins, steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, lobster, fish. Then It starts with soup, we ordered both the onion and the miso to try both. Our consensus was the miso was better. The miso must be traditional as that is what we have always been served at other Teppanese restaurants. Next is a little green salad with the house dressing. I swear the miso soup and the house salad seem to be the same in every Teppanese restaurant. Then the show begins. We all chose the upgrade to fried rice then the grilled vegetables each entre comes with three grilled shrimp. It's an appetizer. Always keep in mind with Teppanese they grill and put these things on your plate one at a time. Do not wait for everything to be cooked before starting or the rice and the vegetables are going to be cold by the time you get your protein.
