Mmm mmm good. I was in the area and wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth and found great luck here. They have a big variety of individual sweets and lots of cakes if you need something for an occasion. The prices are also very reasonable. I ended up with a chocolate muffin which was super moist and also only a dollar and change. I could see myself getting addicted to this place for breakfast! The staff was also super friendly and helpful. My only complaint is nothing is labeled. The staff was willing to answer my questions, but it was a little crowded, so I don't want to waste time saying "what's that? how much is that? What flavors does this come in?" If they had little labels then I think it would be much more efficient if people could peruse and then approached the counter when they knew what the want. Or maybe most people are frequent enough to know what the want, but I prefer labels on the items or a sign indicating prices. In addition to all the pastries, cakes and cookies behind the counter, they also sell great apple crumb cake, peach melba cake, sour cream poundcake, etc. up front. Of these, the marble pound cake is my favorite. Try the Boston cream donuts and gelato as well. My only problem at this place has been the French and Italian loaves. We ended up in Bloomfield for a funeral. We drove past Gencarelli's looking for somewhere else to eat and immediately stopped. They had social distancing measures in place so we felt comfortable waiting and purchasing goods from there. Even though they were closing early because it was a Sunday, they still helped us because we were in line. As soon as we came inside the store they locked the doors tho so no one else could come in lol. We focused on the cakes and pies and complete missed the other side of the store with the breads and cookies! But everything looked amazing. We ended up with German chocolate cake squares (tasted soooo good), cannolis (also delicious), key lime and chocolate mousse (not as tasty), and carrot cake slice (very very good). I love their hazelnut chocolate mousse cake and fruit tarts. Gencarelli's is one of the few bakeries I know of that is open til pretty late in the evening (9pm). The counter staff seems to be mostly high school/college age girls. They're friendly enough, and have managed to figure out how to package the things I ask for. They do run out of individual sizes of the hazelnut chocolate mousse though, so try and get em early if you don't want a whole cake. read more

Emma for some reason handed me a bag of broken cookies HUH????? And when I tried to ask her why, she looked at me, ignored me, and turned around. So I walk up to the other side towards the manager and that's when she comes running, saying "they must of broken up when I put it down" trying to cover her ass. HUH???? Very disappointed with this cake. I called in and had a custom made strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries and as you can see in the picture there were only a couple of strawberry's. I don't ever do reviews but I had to do this one. For what you pay and the high quality products this bakery makes daily this one didn't make the cut. It has been a tradition to get a gencarellis cake for a birthday and I don't want to stop that tradition but if you can't get what you asked for than maybe it will be time to stop and find another place. I needed a cake for my sister's birthday/graduation party. I got a fruit cake with strawberry jam filling ($28) and two caramel mouse slices and two strawberry mouse slices for $3.50 each. I would say that this place is overall pretty good quality cakes however I found that the sweets were a bit on the heavy cream side. I felt that the mouses could have been lighter and fluffier. One out of every 5 or 6 cakes we've bought have been slightly stale, but the breakfast pastries and crumb buns are always very fresh. And their bread...madone! So good. read more

I ordered a hazelnut birthday cake because of the raving reviews I kept seeing on that specific cake. I ordered it a week before due date and I also called the day of letting them know someone else would be picking up my order. When my mom showed up, they never made my cake order. Now I would be giving them 1 star because that was terrible BUT they apologized to my mom, took $10 off (I think it should have. Wen half off but oh well) and my mom walked out with the hazelnut cake I ordered immediately. They quickly fixed the problem and took care of my mom. The cake, WAS A HUGE HIT! I'd been curious about this spot for a while and I really liked it. When you walk into the store, you're assaulted with the colors and aromas of different pastries. There were so many different kinds of cakes, pies and cookies...it's hard to imagine one place can turn out such variety. The good thing is that the items I had looked good, smelled good and, most importantly, tasted good: Chocolate Fudge Cake - this is meant to appeal to the person who loves chocolate - it's a chocolate cake with chocolate whipped frosting. While it wasn't as chocolatey as I would have liked (think milk chocolate as opposed to dark chocolate), it was still good. The cake was moist and the frost was thick and decadent...it was definitely on the sweeter side. Fruit Torte - a fantastic cake made of white cake, layered with a creamy frosting and custard and topped with sweetened fruit - this is one of those European treats that looks great and tastes even better (if it's done properly). The torte tasted great and it was hard to stop eating it. The service was friendly and they take credit cards - all the things that help to make a bakery great. read more

As a family, we've always looked to support small and local businesses. We've been loyal Gencarelli's customers for the past 15 years even though about 10 years ago I got food poisoning from their Tiramisu. Regardless, we decided to still visit and purchase from this establishment as it was local. Unfortunately, after today, we will never visit this place again or recommend it to anyone if they ask as many people do. My mom and I went in this morning looking to purchase some pastries along will rolls and bread. I got married this weekend and unfortunately the cake box that the top tier of our wedding cake was in (which we were going to freeze for our one year anniversary) got wet. We explained this to the employee at Gencarelli's and asked if there was anyway we could purchase a small cake box from them (not get it for free, but purchase). After the rudeness that ensued, the service member went to ask the manager supposedly or whoever it was. Unfortunately the answer was still no. They would not allow us to purchase a box from them for our cake even after 15 years of supporting them as a local business so that we could wrap our cake properly to freeze it. The only way we were told that they'd give us a box is if we bought one of their cakes. (We offered to pay $5 just for 1 box). Such a shame, we now regret ever supporting this establishment and moving forward will never visit or recommend it to anyone who asks. Yes it was just a box, but we didn't want it for free. It would have helped us tremendously and allowed us to spend more time with our parents before having to leave. Instead, we wasted 2 hours driving around looking for a box, which we did find. Long story short, don't visit or support this business. The only thing they care about is money so don't let them fool you to think that they care about the local community at all. We learned the hard way after 15 years of supporting them. Should have stopped visiting them ever since I got food poisoning from their Tiramisu. read more

Honestly was a little disappointed today with the pastries we selected. Maybe we should stick to what the bakery is well known for because I'm seeing the comments have great reviews about the cakes, cannolis, and cookies! We got three things to split: cheesecake with whipped cream with the strawberry, pecan turnover, and this marble brownie with cream cheese in it. Don't get me wrong, they were all fine in taste, but usually, when we go to a bakery, we expect an amazing over the top taste, whereas everything we had was mediocre. Either we could've baked it or gotten it from the grocery store. However, there are many things left to try and several reasons for us to go back. After enjoying an awesome lunch I walked over to this local bakery to pick up some sweets for the coming week. Strawberry Shortcake was beautifully presented and proved to be quite yummy. It looked delicate and also tasted delicate as the cream was light and airy, with the yellow cake being super spongy (in a good way) and also light. A very semi-sweet strawberry flavor from the strawberries was appreciated as sometimes the strawberry flavor can be overly sweet and artificial tasting. Lobster Tail was solid. I found the shell nice, light, and flaky = a good start. The cream filling was very smooth and light but I found the cream lacking in sweetness and a bit bland. Reading up on the filling I read that it can be a French cream or a Ricotta cream so maybe I'm more partial to the thicker and more assertive Ricotta cream? My sister selected the Cheese Danish. I'm not a fan of Cheese Danish, so my sister ate most of the Danish with me just eating a quarter or so of it. The pastry portion itself was excellent; melt in your mouth rich buttery goodness, but the cheese filling was quite lacking. I found it okay, but my Danish connoisseur sister said the cheese filling was lacking cheese flavor and was leaning towards a cream or custard.flavor and texture. Considering the very large amount of offerings this bakery offers, I can't help but think I must try some other delicacies to get a larger sampling to make a better assessment in order to help the yelp community ;) read more

This has been my go to bakery since 2014, especially for cake orders. My family loves the hazelnut fruit cake (of course) and the fruit tarts so I'm here pretty often. But for big cake orders, they can really make your Pinterest board dreams come true!! I have probably ordered more than half a dozen speciality cakes and I am always wowed by each one. This bakery is a local staple and I love that I'm nearby. Love their cookies, cakes, and other pastries. I love their mini versions of their mousse cakes especially the hazelnut mousse. And I love their black and white cookies! So chewy and delicious and many times sold out :( They recently made a gender reveal cake for me and it was a hit. Cream cheese frosting wasn't overly sweet, and the cake was consistently moist throughout. Oh and I loved that it was neon pink instead of just baby pink! Had a piece of the derby cake I picked up here and it was pretty good. Nice and chocolatey with plenty of cream. The fruit mostly tasted good, but a piece of banana in the cake was mushy and didn't even look like banana any more, I could only tell by smelling it. Also the 'happy mothers day' pin that was stuck in the cake was a bit small. We expected it to be written into the cake which perhaps they would've done if requested but its what we expected, that pin was lame.The service is pretty good and they have a parking lot that as well as street parking.
